Torchwood

Are you proposing to write an article "Time agent"? Because until there is one, wikilinking just produces a redlink, which does not help the reader. Also, there is too much plot about Captain Jack Hart; that section is supposed to be about him, rather than describe in detail what he does. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Time Agency, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Beaufort scale

Hey there, I noticed you adding a Beaufort scale template to a lot of articles. I'd just like to let you know not to use it too much or without thought. In the case of Storm Abigail, there is no mention of Beaufort scales anywhere in the article. I think what you intended the template for is to help readers understand what "force 10" or "force 11" is without reading the Beaufort scale article. However, since the storm article never talks about wind speeds in the Beaufort scale, it has the opposite effect and causes confusion. I'm sure there are some uses for it, but just noticed on Abigail, it's not appropriate or at least not yet. Jolly Ω Janner 00:07, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Reply


As I added the Beaufort Force already to Storm Abigail and Storm Barney, I wanted to include a Beaufort scale template to the article as well, similar to that for Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale template, making it easier to add to future Storms as well.

It makes sense. My concern is that the Saffir-Simpson scale is widely used to categorise hurricanes, however the Beaufort scale is more often used for sea conditions and rarely used by forecasters when describing the intensity of a storm. That being said, I am interested myself in seeing whether Wikipedia can move to a way of measuring storm intensities for the UK. There doesn't seem to be a system in place at the moment, but I think Beaufort could be the best one. I may think about integrating it into a new Infobox for them. I've also adjusted a style for tracking maps of the storm to be more inline for extropical storms at Commons:User:Jolly Janner/Sandbox. Jolly Ω Janner 01:26, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Weather forecasts tend to just use the generic "Gale force" and "Storm Force" winds in the weather forecasts, but these do relate to the Beaufort scale bands. I did try to edit the Infobox for storms to add the Beaufort scale, but it didn't work! Bit to advanced for me! With regards to the infobox, my initial plans are to make a new one from scratch rather than editing {{Infobox storm}}. I find the current infobox tries to encompass every type of storm possible and a new style just for European windstorms may bring more uniformity to such articles. I was planning on colour coding the top bar by the maximum Beaufort scale achieved, similar to hurricanes. I have some experience with infoboxes, but it may still take a bit of time before one is ready. I think with the start of storm seasons in the UK, the need is now. With regards to tracking maps, there is a type of software used for them, which is integrated with tropical cyclones, so maps will be produced according to the Saffir-Simpson scale. I simply converted the SS scale to Beaufort, since they follow similarities. See User talk:Supportstorm#Extropical cyclone tracking maps for more info.
