rfcs as references

I've noticed that you have recently flagged some articles (Wildcard DNS record and Zone file) as needing better references. These articles were already very well referenced via the RFCs in the text. On wikipedia, an IETF Request for comments have a strange place in terms of references. Early on, when wikipedia was much more tech biased, RFCs were seen as such critical references that the source code for wikipedia was modified to automatically link to them. However, as times has passed, other forms of referencing have been created, most of them much superior to the built-in RFC linking, but the RFC links are still valid references. See Talk:Request_for_comments#IETF_RFC_handling_in_Wikipedia.3B_best_way_to_cite for more discussion about this problem. Wrs1864 (talk) 17:27, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining this. I had searched through the Wikipedia help pages, but the only thing I could find was the template for actually linking to RFCs. Definitely highlights a topic that could be documented better on Wikipedia. Thanks for giving these links to read!Radiant chains (talk) 17:38, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi there,

I posted an article on Wendy Kaufman and published it before completion (which I realize I shouldnt have done) - you marked it for speedy deletion, but since then I have added more information and several references. Please let me know if this suffices for the removal of the speedy deletion notice. If it does not I would like to know what else is needed to prove notability. Thank you. Theoptionexplicit (talk) 17:22, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I've removed the speedy deletion template. Thanks for adding those references. Radiant chains (talk) 17:29, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Wolverhampton Local Elections 1988

Hi there,

You recently left a box re:unverifiable sources on the Wolverhampton Local Elections, 1988 page that I am in the process of building.

Unfortunately I am having to get the results from microfilm of the regional newspaper and am unable to link to any other websites, as they don't exist.

As you could see from my contributions the local election results in Wolverhampton have been a bit of a labour of love from me and would rely on an element of trust that I am copyiing the information from archived microfilm accurately.

It would at this point be impossible to verify the results I am inputting (without a lenghty visit to Wolverhampton Archives!) but would dearly hope that the pages I build remain so that the information is not lost.

Kind regards,

Hustedcarl —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hustedcarl (talkcontribs) 20:20, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Newspapers on microfilm still need to be cited. Please see Wikipedia:Verifiability, as well as the discussion at Wikipedia:New_contributors'_help_page/Archive/2008/October#Citations_of_microfilm Radiant chains (talk) 22:59, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi there:

You added a "notability" on a newbie article I created. Can you help me with the citations for the sentence? I have the link but don't know how to format it. Thanks and have a nice day! —Preceding unsigned comment added by HongKongboy (talkcontribs) 16:38, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

The "notability" tag is on the article due to lack of information showing the notability of the subject. Please see WP:ENTERTAINER. Thanks. Radiant chains (talk) 16:47, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Stop vandalising the pages. Correcting "am" to "an". —Preceding unsigned comment added by HongKongboy (talkcontribs) 21:38, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Please stop vandalizing the pages. Correcting typos is fine, but please do not remove speedy deletion templates when you do so. Radiant chains (talk) 08:47, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the assistance. Please just delete it. I'll work with everyone at RIT and write a complete article before posting again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seeprint (talkcontribs) 09:03, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Pediatric Neuropsychology entry

I will need to set up an email address linked to abpdn.org. However, if you check the officer page http://abpdn.org/officers.shtml

You will find my name, Nadia Webb, listed as Executive Director with my email address at Children's Hospital of New Orleans. Please do not delete the Pediatric Neuropsychology entry. It will not be a mirror of another website page when it is revised. I allowed the material to be posted as a starting point for the edits and amendments to the content. The material has been posted with full permission from the organization, ABPdN, and by me as it's Executive Director. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.11.27.195 (talk) 22:54, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I've tagged the talk page to let other editors know that copyright permission review is pending. Once an administrator reviews the confirmation e-mail, they should let you know on that talk page. Thanks. Radiant chains (talk) 09:25, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

what did you do to my article

You had no right to remove my article on Cormac MCcCarthy just because it did'nt have citations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Barrelofoil (talkcontribs) 18:20, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

I didn't remove your article. An administrator redirected it to Cormac McCarthy. Radiant chains (talk) 18:23, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Foods with Nationality Names

I just received a new message suggesting the page I just created, Foods with Nationality Names, be deleted. I am very frustrated with Wikipedia for the over control in this regard. The page had been up for only about 5 minutes and already it was scheduled for being deleted. This is unfair and absolutely rude. This is a continuous situation with all Wikipedia editors or whatever you call yourselves. Each time I ask who makes these decisions, I receive no answer, but just another message about overkill on the control. When I started posting pages and information on this site, it was a welcome to anyone who wanted to add their little bit to web. So much has changed. Members are not welcome to post here anymore. We get rudely shut out to the point where I feel like taking off everything that I have posted on Wikipedia. This has become so unfair, it is no longer a FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA.

I apologize for the deletion notice coming off as rude. My only concern was that the article would be hard to verify, as it's not inherently an encyclopedic topic. Normally, if you disagree with a proposed deletion, you can remove it from the page - this signals your disagreement with it. However, I'll go ahead and cancel the proposed deletion on Foods with Nationality Names. I'll tag the article to let other editor know that it's still being worked on, and shouldn't be critically judged for a while. Hope this helps. Radiant chains (talk) 11:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Aaron Cunningham

Why did you clear out his page and redirect to the A's minor league page? The guy has Major League experience. JustSomeRandomGuy32 (talk) 19:31, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that - I was fixing the Midland Rangers player articles to redirect to the minor league page. For some reason, Aaron Cunningham was linked in the template for the Rangers (AA team) roster. I was about to revert the change but you beat me to it. Radiant chains (talk) 19:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah - ok then - I see now that you are redirecting other pages that should be... obviously just an accident... JustSomeRandomGuy32 (talk) 19:37, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Popland

Hi there,

After looking at WP:Music for notability, I hope that we can settle the issue for good. - I have a scan of the article of the band, from the Straits Times (National Newspaper of Singapore) in 1993 here [1] and [2], which matches Section 1.1 - It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable. There are no free online archives from the Straits Times, sorry though. - Other aricles include the following scans I have made [3], [4] (Kevin Mathews with Watchmen band). If anything, the article should be on Kevin Mathews, not Popland, maybe we should redirect if you think. I have more articles and if you want me to scan them I will. - Mathews is going to be playing on MediaCorp Channel 5 [www.5.mediacorptv.sg] on April 9th. The TV schedule is not out there yet, but it will be soon when it is the correct week. - Section 5 - Has released one album with Zip Records [5] also link on (Amazon.com link) [6] abd second CD here [7]. - Like I said, this article should actually be more about Kevin Mathews (there's a lot more stuff about him) than the band so if any more questions/concerns, please contact Nicholas.tan (talk) 17:36, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to compile those sources. I agree that the article should be at Kevin Mathews. He's clearly notable, and there is more information about him, with his previous and current solo work (which is a decent part of the current article). Popland should then redirect to Kevin Mathews. We'd need an administrator to make that move, to make sure the editing history of the original article stays intact. Radiant chains (talk) 02:47, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! that sounds like a good idea. If this makes sense to you right now, I could switch the redirect (Kevin Mathews now directs to Popland) to be the other way around, and rewrite the article to refer to Mathews as opposed to the band. That sound good? Nicholas.tan (talk) 02:56, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
That sounds like great solution. Again, thanks for being so cooperative on this with me! Radiant chains (talk) 03:00, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

I can't find a reliable source for it. If you can provide a reliable source, then by all means add it back into the article. The sources that I found, however, were mostly speculation. Radiant chains (talk) 12:53, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't believe it's encyclopedic. Please have a look at Wikipedia:Notability_(web). Radiant chains (talk) 14:37, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

We can make it encyclopedic! it will just take some work! I beleive that people deserve to know about this guy,and its not like you all have to search it...please reply on my talk page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pruane2222 (talkcontribs) 14:39, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I suggest you also have a look at WP:Autobiography, as your username indicates that you are yourself the the subject of this article. Radiant chains (talk) 14:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

n not really, I thought that since thats the article I wanted to write I should have the same name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pruane2222 (talkcontribs) 14:47, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

The Women

It looks like you know what you're doing re disambigu-izing The Women. Just please make sure you also include the 2009 novel by T.C. Boyle. That's all I was really trying to do, since more than 3 entries on the same name should seem to call for a "proper disambiguation page." But I'll let you be the judge of that. Mr manilow (talk) 18:52, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I re-did it so that the original article's history would be retained. I moved The Women to The Women (play). Then, I created the disambiguation page at the new article at the The Women, using the disambiguation text that you wrote. Radiant chains (talk) 18:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Could you help me do the same, by any chance, for the Taliesin article? The main article references to a pretty archaic use for Taliesin, while most people searching the term would actually be looking for one (or both) of FLWright's primary residences and teaching schools? There is already a Taliesin disamb page (Taliesin_(disambiguation)), but I think it would be helpful if this were made into the main taliesin page, to reduce clicks (and confusion). What do you think? Can you pls help me out on this one? (You seem to more proficient doing it anyhow..) Mr manilow (talk) 19:00, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

How to add a poster

hey radiant chains i would like to know how do i upload an image as a poster as i see that other articles allow posters to be free. i dont want to upload any copyright images and want to upload images as poster for movies, and celebrities.-Varunn pandya

If you have specific images in mind, I'd recommend starting a post over at Wikipedia_talk:Copyrights/Can_I_use.... That way, others who are familiar with copyright rules will be able to add input, as well. Radiant chains (talk) 08:49, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

To make it show as a poster, you need to add the template {{Non-free movie poster}}. Then, it's essential that you fill in a "fair use rationale" template. For movie posters, it would be the template at {{Film poster fur}}. You should fill in as much information as possible in the "Additional Information" section. For other types of images, such as CD covers or book covers, you'll need different templates, which are found at Category:Non-free_use_rationale_templates. Rollback

I have chains/Archive 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 03:25, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Edit to Grogg

Hi

I am trying to edit a page which included old, out of date and incorrect information about my company and product. I have tried to make a productive edit to this page and am now on a final warning from you. All I am trying to do is to add correct information to this page about my company. I have no interest in vandalising it, only wish to add some current links and new info. I added a large chunk of useful text a few months ago which seems to have been wiped off. If this can occur and not be vandalism, how can I not remove irrelevant and misleading references? Many Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickyspues (talkcontribs) 11:26, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

If you're adding new information from external sources, you can add them to the article. However, you were not changing any article content - you were just removing references. Also, I'd suggest reading over WP:COI. Radiant chains (talk) 11:29, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Thanks for the quick response, I am new to this. I was attempting to add new references but saved my removals in between. Obviously I should not have done that as it was construed as vandalism. I was adding new refs when I was told I could no longer edit. Am I able to remove the incorrect references if I am adding to the article? And am I able to edit now (constructively) or am I banned for good? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickyspues (talkcontribs) 11:32, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Dickyspues. Why do you think the references are incorrect? Without those the article would be deleted. It has already been nominated for deletion many times! If you are new to Wikipedia I would say generally you can add to articles but not take away from them. And when you add something you should provide a reference to prove that the info you have added is correct. Thatsitivehadenough (talk) 11:35, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi The articles that they reference appeared in the press and are inaccurate about my product and company. Also they are very out of date. I put a great deal of relevant information on this page a few months ago and someone (I assume the author of what is appearing there now) deleted it, without it being called vandalism. This is slightly frustrating as obviously I originally wanted the page just to be fleshed out with more information and didn't remove any of the suspect content. I just want the article to be accurate and reflect my company seriously. I have made editing mistakes as I am new to it all, but I would still like to add new (and relevant) information to what is there because what is there at the moment is pretty thin to be honest!Isn't it relevant that this is my own company I am trying to add information on? Many Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickyspues (talkcontribs) 11:44, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

I understand about conflict of interest, but all I want to do is add some more words to the article to give a better picture of the item, this would be factual information and not advertising of any kind. I would like the article to be the best it could be and would like to add to it to that effect. Am I able to do this? As I have said before, the current author of the article vandalized my additions in the past. Many Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dickyspues (talkcontribs) 11:49, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Looking back through it your addition was removed to save the article from being deleted around the 9th of February! Other editors thought the article looked like an advert so the person who deleted your additions actually saved the Grogg article rather than vandalise it. Thatsitivehadenough (talk) 11:57, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay I understand. If I am unable to edit it without it being removed for these reasons then it might as well remain there inaccurate. There was no intention for it to sound like advertising, it was only the facts. I am puzzled that actual true information would be less important than supposition but I see where you are coming from. Thanks for the info--Dickyspues (talk) 12:11, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

You can edit it. As long as you give a reference to a reliable news article from the BBC or "The Western Mail" for example to back up your claims. Everyone is welcome to edit wikipedia.(i think!) Out of interest what bits are inaccurate. Thatsitivehadenough (talk) 12:29, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

It is just some of the content in the links for references, some of the press interpretations are inaccurate (as they usually are!). Also some of the limited edition info is out of date (never 200 for example). But I get since the press articles exist that they can be used as a reference. Thanks for letting me know, I will look up some references and make sure I edit constructively and with validation in the future!--Dickyspues (talk) 13:04, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

I look forward to you helping out on Wiipedia. let me know if you need any help. I will remove the 200 for you now as I can also see that thats wrong. You are in a really good position to upload grogg photos to wikimedia Commons http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page as there is only one Grogg photo on there. Thats a minefield also with busy bodies deleting your photos weeks after you uploaded them because you forgot to label them or something. ATB Thatsitivehadenough (talk) 19:16, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Rockettes

Hi, there's two artistice groups by the name Rockettes, the American dance company with the definite article the and the Finnish synchronized skating team Rockettes (synchronized skating team) without the article. So in my opinion Rockettes should be a disambiguation page, with The Rockettes redirected to it, and the two articles should be named The Rockettes (dance company) and Rockettes (synchronized skating team). -- Presque (talk) 18:47, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

To quote from WP:DISAMBIG: "If only a primary topic and one other topic require disambiguation, then disambiguation links are sufficient, and a disambiguation page is unnecessary". The Rockettes is the more well-known topice. Radiant chains (talk) 18:51, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh. So it goes according to the degree of how well-known the topic is. Got it. Thank you for this information. :) -- Presque (talk) 10:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
