Taliesin

What do you think you are doing by coming along and unilaterally deciding to move Taliesin to Taliesin (poet). The poet Taliesin is clearly the primary meaning as everything else bearing his name derives from him: would you move Homer to "Homer (poet)" to disambiguate between him and Homer Simpson etc? Taliesin is also a supremely important figure in Welsh tradition and is very widely-known elsewhere. It is not possible to revert your move without a page deletion but I will certainly be seeing to it that this is done so that the article's name can be restored. You might at least have had the courtesy to state your proposed move on the article's talk page and give people time to reply - I am sure I am not the only editor who feels this move is totally unjustified. Google is not the answer to everything, particularly trying to compare long-dead Welsh-language poets with modern Americans. Similarly the number of Wikipedia articles mentioning the studio isn't proof that the poet is not the most important usage of the word "Taliesin". Using "modern and current" references only isn't enough: see WP:BIAS, for example. The issue needs to be discussed before any more moves are made to see what consensus is on this point, and all I did was restore the status quo pending that discussion. Incidentally, the way you went about the move was flawed: you left Taliesin (disambiguation) alone and effectively did a "cut and paste" of the contents (not good for GDFL compliance). What should have happened was a move of the disambig page to Taliesin, but that would have needed administrator help because of the need to delete first, so providing another reason for why discussion was required in advance, so that an administrator could see consensus for the use of the tools. For the moment I will only add this to Bencherlite's remarks. You say on my talk page "I am most curious (if not positively anxious) to hear why the poet Taliesin trumps all other concerns going by that name." Is it perhaps because HE IS TALIESIN and therefore every other usage ultimately derives from him? He's as central to Welsh culture as say Abraham Lincoln is in the States. Pursuing your logic I take it you'll have no objection at all if I move the article on him to Abraham Lincoln (US president) and rename Abraham Lincoln (disambiguation) to "Abraham Lincoln"? PS On a lighter note, what on earth have you done to your talk page's contents?

Are you not allowed to (or supposed to) remove them? I just thought..they're old and useless now. I like a cleaner site with fresh material. Is this frowned upon? Mr manilow (talk) 23:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

It's normal practice to respect other people's contributions to your talk page (apart from vandalism and unacceptable personal comments, obviously) and not delete them. If you really want them out of the way, but still available, you should create an archive (see Help:Archiving a talk page). Enaidmawr (talk) 23:55, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
