The Black Swans

Hi, Quarl! The author of The Black Swans, which I tagged under CSD A7 and you deleted, contacted me with a claim of notability that meets WP:MUSIC (multiple national tours). Can you restore the article? I'll work with the user on citing WP:RS and establishing the notability. Thanks! -- Merope Talk 19:06, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Done. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-03 22:41Z

Deletion of Gorbushka

I don't think the article should have been speedied. This is a legendary place in the history of Russian rock music. --Ghirla -трёп- 15:32, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I have undeleted it and AFDed it. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-04 16:57Z

Chelsea Charms et. al

I went through a couple of the porn star lists and deleted the ones which I believed to be non-notable bios. There are a lot of them. It's as though no one had ever combed through the bands on Wikipedia to remove the non-notable ones... except, you know, with more nudity. I think that, given new anti-spam CSD criteria in addition to the long-standing notability guidelines, my actions were warranted. Thank you for letting me know you'd undeleted Chelsea Charms; I'm in the midst of writing up an AfD for it now, where it can be discussed at greater length (including the flimsiness of the first AfD). Series of hoax/unverifiable articles?

Hi! Do you remember Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amobi I of Ogidi? I just unearthed more related articles, which are possible hoaxes or unverifiable at best. Care to take a look at User:Punkmorten/Amobi I of Ogidi? What should we do with these articles? Punkmorten 09:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for digging up all that. I recommend a single AFD covering all of them. We'll probably have to delete most or all of them as unverifiable, even if they aren't hoaxes. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-06 18:28Z
They have now been nominated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Igwe Amobi I of Ogidi. Punkmorten 09:47, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:RFA/Merope

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a tally of 66/11/5. I learned quite a bit during the process, and I expect to be learning a lot more in the days ahead. I will be taking things slowly (and doing a lot of re-reading), but I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do to improve in my new capacity. -- Merope Talk 13:44, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Deletions

There seemed to be an awful lot of edits by the same user; wasn't sure if all were recreations. Thanks for pointing that out. Easy to forget sometimes. - Lucky 6.9 06:34, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

MPOGD

In what way was the article deletion-worthy? Basically, what I'm asking here is what did I not put in the article that should have been there? Project rockstar mentions the site, so I thought an entry on it (even a stub) would be useful. It doesn't really matter to me as a whole, but if I'm going to put in my own entries, I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. HalfShadow 23:52, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Ali Hewson image

Hi, I obtained the permission of the image owner to upload it, and said so. Can you say why you deleted it please? Thanks. MarkThomas 13:48, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Augusoft

I seconded your prod of Augusoft. Reviewing the relevance of that article has been on my list of things to do for a while. I think it would be helpful to expand the reason beyond "nn-corp" because new editors may not know that notation. Maybe at the very least a link to WP:CORP. Just a thought. WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request

This is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 21:39, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Organisation of Young Free Algerians (AfD discussion)

Hello Quarl, I found a web site called www.algeria-watch.com that has pointers to books in French about the OJAL (Organization of Young Free Algerians). I'll put something on the talk page of that article. Since my time is limited I may just be able to add the references to the talk page and then leave it up to other editors to decide if they are enough to make the article worth keeping. The above web site takes a strong point of view but they are full of citations to the regular French press, which could be followed up if necessary.

[Forgive me for duplicating the same info on your own talk page, but if the AfD goes through this stuff would disappear].

See these links: about the OJAL [1] and a review of the 'Franco-Algeria' book listed below [2].

These two books are so far only available in French. You can see some details on www.amazon.fr:

(1) Lounis Aggoun and Jean-Baptiste Rivoire (2004), "Françalgérie", crimes et mensonges d’Etats, [Franco-Algeria, Crimes and Lies of the State] ISBN 2707147478 Has a section called "The Organisation of Young Free Algerians, death squadron of the DRS", quoted in [3]. DRS stands for Département du Renseignement et de la Sécurité, the Algerian secret service.

(2) Mohamed Samraoui, Chronique des années de sang [Chronicle of the years of blood], ISBN 2207254895. Not about OJAL specifically, but claims that the Algerian secret service sponsored some attacks that were attributed to the GIA in order to defame the Islamists.

Although the website and the books are POV, there are probably neutral ways of stating that these conspiracies and killings are *alleged*. There may be some books or articles on the other side but I haven't come across them yet. I notice that the AfD debate [4] has some other links, from the newspaper Humanité and from the UN High Commission for Refugees. EdJohnston 01:29, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Don't tell me; tell the article. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-11 05:53Z

User:Calgvla

I think after many "final warnings", a block is now necessary. This guy is causing a great deal of disruption on the Armenia and Armenians articles, repeatedly inserting information against consensus, plus the continued re-uploading of images. —Khoikhoi 05:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Looks like Alphachimp took care of it. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-11 05:51Z

European Home Retail

I was just about to think about merging the article European Home Retail with that of its subsidaries of which at least one is notable in its own right, when I noticed you had speedily deleted the article. Would it be possible to have access to the content of the article? Possibly userfy to User:Agathoclea/EHR thanks. Agathoclea 08:06, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

"European Home Retail" company details have been deleted without any warning? Thought "Copyright infringements, attacks, and nonsense" would be deleted like this. (Seb-Gibbs 15:07, 11 October 2006 (UTC));
I have undeleted the article European Home Retail. Please do merge the subsidiaries with it. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-11 16:50Z
Sounds good. How fast can that be done? I am thinking in particular about the contribution history. Agathoclea 19:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
I have moved the information across, I normally deal more with historical and geographical articles so any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks Agathoclea 21:39, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

User:Calgvla

Hello, he re-uploaded the images for the Nth time again and after being blocked for 12 hours, he returned and is now flooding the talk pages with the images and the same nonsense.--Eupator 18:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I have deleted the images and given him some advice on Talk:Armenians. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-11 18:57Z
Thanks.--Eupator 19:04, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Please don't delete the images until more users and see them and an agreement can be reached to include them, they are on the discussion page, so give them a chance to be discussed. I don't understand why a small minority who want to propagate a falsehood seem to have the final authority here.--Calgvla 21:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Do I need to request an RFC for a permaban?--Eupator 01:19, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Quarl, I had written a stub about #REDIRECT Sivasankaran. I am a college student and I have no links with this business or something. I am a wiki browser and I could not find this person's details. But he owns quite a big group whose details were not there as well. So i added them taking some pains so that others who look for this will also be benefited. This is really putting me off from contributing towards wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grsenthil (talkcontribs)

Just thought you might be interested in the page John Pham, which is essentially the same as John Solo. I'd say this would be a prime candidate to be bundled, but it's up to you. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 09:07, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

European Home Retail / Farepak

Does this BBC News report make it (Farepak at least) notable enough? Note from there that it "employed 35,000 agents across the UK" - this is not an obscure minor company, certainly where hampers are concerned. 86.136.255.180 15:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Okay, thank you; I've removed the {{notability}} tag. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-16 16:53Z
EHR as a whole went dopwn, not just Farepak Agathoclea 17:00, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Can you delete somebody elses talk page content?

Was doing a little digging and found that a message to me on my talk page was deleted before I ever even had the chance to review it. Is this appropriate, I mean shouldn't I be able to rationally determine the veracity, meaning and purpose of a message sent to me without interference? Charles Douglas 08:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Charles Douglas, please see User talk:Quarl/Archive 2006-08#Removal of messages from talk page and WP:SPAM#Canvassing. Quarl (talk) 2006-10-17 18:34Z
Fair enough as far as the policy on canvassing goes, although I wonder if this crosses the line into dissuading attempts to "organize" like-minded individuals. I still don't see why this was done to my user talk page without any notice at all. Charles Douglas 00:07, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Adminship

Thanks for your message on my talk page. I was actually quite surprised since I never considered that I'm remotely qualified. I will cetainly think about it. I do think I'm good about a lot of things I do, but it's mostly vandal fighting and finding errors and omissions. I'm not sure if I have the patience to do some of the other things that I think may be needed that require the ability to deal with bigger issues and negotiate diffences of opinions. --ArmadilloFromHell 04:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:UW

Hi Quarl,

I see looking at the WikiProject user warnings page, that you are a participant in this project. I have recently started an undertaking to harmonise all user page warnings and templates. For this I would like your assistance. I have listed a number of ideas on the project template page here as a first draft. I fully appreciate that as with most editors and admins, that you are fairly busy. Therefore I am not looking for anyone to carry out the actual work, I am willing to do that myself, with help from a number of other RC Patrollers who have come forward. But what I am looking for is your invaluable input, on the draft ideas and also to suggest other ways you believe we may improve the templates. I do however require the services of a couple of administrators to put into effect some of the new templates, as they are currently protected. Please take 5 mins to look through the new templates page, and both the project and templates talk pages and leave any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 10:50, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Please accept my thanks for your support in my successful RfA, which I was gratified to learn passed without opposition on October 25, 2006. I am looking forward to serving as an administrator and hope that I prove worthy of your trust. With my best wishes, --MCB 06:55, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
