Oh, it's so nice to see someone helping with (or even evidence of having looked at :-) the rather rudimentary new page I put up yesterday. It was made more difficult by the fact that I only had the Hebrew edition at hand, which meant I had to translate or transliterate everything, besides confirming names (people, institutions) for internal links. Still, it was worth it -- I'd just gotten so tired of seeing the Encyclopaedia of the Holocaust as a redlink every time I typed it in a reference or "further reading" citation. Next week at the library, I'll fill in what's missing.
Meanwhile, I really appreciate your adding categories. That's something with which I have, as yet, only limited familiarity. Something else for my "Wikipedia Editing 101" list... Thanks! -- Deborahjay 13:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
New York towns edit

Great job misrepresenting my position - I'm not saying we should "pretend the towns and villages are the same thing". I think the articles should start off "Foo is a town in New York, containing a village with the same name." There would be a section about the census stats, separated by town and village. There would be general information about the town and village, some talking about both and some about one or the other.
A possible alternate solution would be to move the village to the undisambiguated title, as it is typically the center of population of the town. Then we at least have a default to link to. But the current "solution" just doesn't work. --SPUI (T - C) 07:20, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

- Hi again, I notice that you have removed the “no source” templates. You write that thay are “public monuments”, but AFAIK, the US copyright law only divides between architecture and art. Public architecture is ok to photograph, public art is not (there are many pieces of public art in the US up for deletion now at COM:DEL, see also User:Alx/Sandbox#USA). I can agree to that The Unisphere may be architecture and thus ok, but these four images can not IMO be called architecture.
- You also write that “nothing created before 1923 in the US is copyrighted” - if so, you should anyway state the name of the artist and the year that the statue was created. Kjetil_r 13:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Do you have sources for your rewrite of the intro, specifically the part saying that the usage was first for agrictulre (e.g., cotton belt) rather than sociological (e.g., Bible belt)? However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Giovanni da Verrazzzzzzano edit
The problem is that "Verrazano" is wrong, and sounds ridiculous to an Italian... and Verrazzano was Italian, isn't he? Shakespeare was called "Scespirio" in Italy some times ago, but nobody uses this forms today.... Probably the article must be moved to Giovanni da Verrazzano. But I've found THE source that will definitively confirm my view... if you check Encyclopedia Britannica, you will find the navigator called exactly as Giovanni da Verrazzano, while the bridge is effectively cited as Verrazano. So probably the form by which he is best known is one, but the correct one is different also in English. Let me know. --Attilios 09:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- This Encyclopedia is written in English, but it is not the Encyclopedia of English-speaking people. That's a subtle difference... "Verazano" may be the most common variant for people of English mother tongue (but I doubt that is true only for US-Canada people who knows the famous bridge), but for ALL other users in the world using this encyclopedia as reference we must give them the "correct" version. --Attilios 10:04, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Pharos of Alexandria1.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

I think that the recently promoted Theramenes qualifies for the George Psalmanazar Prize bounty that you offered.
