Puzzled and sorry

I am sorry about the rollback of your edit, but I am totally bewildered about it. I have no idea what happened, but I have to chalk it up to a disturbance in the force. At the time of that rollback, I was feeling frustrated by the fact that I had gotten an error message when I submitted an edit to Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Statistics -- and that my edit was nowhere to be found when I hit the back button in the browser. Finally, the page appeared, showing my edit (after I had recreated my edit in order to resubmit it). The rollback apparently occurred between the time I submitted the edit and the time I stopped seeing error messages. I think the rollback (on a page I wasn't even looking at) was somehow to the Wikipedia gremlins I was fighting.

Hi. Before I begin, let me say that I do not delete anything on Wikipedia as I am not an admin; I can only nominate things for deletion. I thought my discussion with you at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Super Family Gerende was cordial although perhaps you disagree. I try to be as consistent as possible. Let me answer you in reverse order, because there is a good explanation for the 4 Nin Shogi question which I hope you will accept. I'm sure a strong argument could be made for Famicom.biz's reliability, but I have no idea if it is reliable or not. It does, however, post high quality scans of video games which can be useful. When searching for a cover for the article, I stumbled across the site in google images. I had seen a couple images of the box in Google images, so I knew somewhat what the box looked like. Famicom.biz simply had the highest quality version which I like to find before resizing the image. In that particular case, I wasn't sure which was the proper one and I'd previously seen multiple images used in an infobox so I figured I'd leave both up. In hindsight, I probably should have cropped it. Now the reason I did not nominate the article for deletion is that before nominating an article, I perform quite a bit of research on Google which takes time. I uploaded the cover during a bout I had of cover uploading where I went to Category:Video game articles requesting identifying art and started with the #'s and began uploading covers for games I could find. Check [1] and you can see my progress; I'm still only in the A's. During the bout, I may have nominated a few articles for deletion, but as I said that takes a lot of time so for some articles I just added the cover art and went to the next. Sorry if this method of editing seems sloppy, but I find identifying art so important for articles that at times I really just want to be adding it and doing nothing else but helping out in that manner.

It takes a while to determine the notability of a video game, and I only looked up Sansara Naga 2. The game does not appear notable, so I proposed it for deletion. --Odie5533 (talk) 02:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't know what kind of searches you are doing. What kind of sources you want for Super Family Gerende, can you tell me? There is a reference on the Nintendo site. What kind of source you want? I repeat, can you tell me?? You already wasted my time, but I'm telling you that I'm going with this 'till the end. If you truly believe that my nominations for deletion have shown egregious errors in judgement or are done mischievously then you can start a discussion at WP:AN/I. I take editing of Wikipedia seriously for the most part and I admit I am not an expert in any areas at all, but I don't think expertise is required to write articles. And I like reading about video games so I edit articles about them. I removed the links for MobyGames because it is not a reliable source (see WP:IRS to help identify reliable sources). Although I do not personally use it, MobyGames is perhaps a useful resource to some, but it is not useful for writing Wikipedia articles. For the video games, I would want to see sources that show news articles about the game, game reviews, or other critical analysis and commentary of the game. The difference is that I did not research 4 Nin Shogi or Energy Breaker because I find researching Japanese games to be difficult. I assume Super Double Dragon is notable because it was reviewed by Nintendo Life and Nintendo Power. Contra III was reviewed by IGN, EGM, Nintendo Power, and Nintendo Life so it is notable as well. Your comment "Obituaries are typically written by the family of the deceased and so are not a reliable source" at this DYK article is interesting to me. I have written biographies on deceased persons, for example Francis Alfred Broad and its related DYK. I generally use newspaper obituaries as sources for some of my facts. In the example case, I used the The Times and the Tottenham & Edmonton Weekly Herald. Are such sources not WP:RS then? --Senra (Talk) 15:13, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

See the relevant discussion at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_50#Obituaries. There is apparently a UK meaning of the word obituary, like the one published in the UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph, and a US meaning like the one published in the New Jersey paper Asbury Park Press. The consensus appears to be that newspaper obituaries can only be considered reliable if they are written by a reliable writer for the publication such as their typical staff writers. I have interacted with contributors who used locally published family-contributed obituaries as sources for most or all of the content of a biographical article, including the content about the subject's notability. Just as we would not rely on a persons CV to document a person's notability, those local obituaries are not trustworthy for that purpose. That kind of use of obituaries, IMO, is the kind of thing that has resulted in warnings against using obituaries as sources. However, just as we might use a person's CV to help fill in details about that person (for example, the year an academic received the PhD that is documented by other sources, but without a date), a local obituary may be a good source for encyclopedic details (such as where the deceased is buried) that may not have been documented by other publications. --Orlady (talk) 02:29, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Your question did not sound angry at all, I just got a bit distracted from it. I don't really know if it's better or not. The problem I could foresee is that if you had a lot of long quotes it would eventually be a copyright violation. But I doubt it would ever reach that kind of proportion. Other than that, I don't know. I have not come across any page on Wikipedia with quotes used to backup nearly every line. Recently, I've been working on WikiProject Stub Sorting, moving articles marked as {{stub}} to more specific stub categories so that people who know about a specific topic can focus on stubs about that topic. I noticed that you've tagged a lot of articles (at least 24) with a generic {{stub}}, which makes more work for stub sorters. A (mostly) complete list of all available stub types can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types. Sorry about that. I've been using the Page Curation tool which tries to handle all the tagging, but it doesn't do stub sorting. Thanks for telling me about the script; I had not heard of it before. Since you already redirected Howrah purulia express to South Eastern Railway zone, I was wondering what your opinion would be on putting Rupashi Bangla Express up for AfD with a proposal to redirect to South Eastern as well - it's a pretty bad article, and it Howrah and Rupashi are actually the same routes. — Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 18:22, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

The Howrah Purulia Express covers trains 12827 and 12828 whereas the Rupashi Bangla Express covers trains 12883 and 12884, so they are slightly different routes. That said, the subject does not appear notable. Per WP:ATD-R, rather than taking the article to AFD it would be better to just form a consensus that the article should be turned into a redirect. New Article Request Denied- Demigodz

Hello... hoping to make the needed improvements to get Demigodz article approved. Several of the group's members have articles that passed notability standards, so the only issue seems to be verifiable sources. The group has artist listings under Yahoo Music and MTV.com, and articles in UndergroundHipHop.com, DJbooth.net and a number of other publications specific to this genre of music. Would adding these sources be sufficient or is there a more stringent standard that needs to be met? I am somewhat new to contributing on Wiki so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Failing my review on Elisava School of Design

Hi! I don't want to start a fight, but I tend to disagree that "WP:PROF does not cover schools." What it says is: "This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—see the guidelines for academics and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia." Hello. I'm afraid that the academics guideline does not cover schools, but only "academics" which refers to people in academics (see WP:PROF). The notability guideline that covers schools is located at WP:ORG for organizations and companies. Notability is a rather complicated area on Wikipedia, and consensus at AfD can often override the established guidelines. Often if I'm not sure if an article falls under a specific notability guideline then I just refer users to the general notability guidelines. Hi Odie, I'm from pt wiki and I translated (I would create at your account, but you don't have created it, so I did in mine) to pt your "User:Odie5533/SnipManager.user.js", and I am having problens with that. Well, I changed the cite templates (cite book, cite web), but I can not insert more templates; when I do that, the tool get into errors. Thus, the warnings, like "copied" and "clean up", are not working. I tried to change to pt versions, but when I do that the tool do not work. Hi! Thank you for your interest in my script and thank you for translating it into Portuguese! I am so surprised people other than me still use it! Please continue to make changes to the one on your user subpage; it's not necessary to have one at my subpage on the pt wiki since I do not edit there. Regarding your issue, the problem is occurring because you have changed the name from Cleanup to Limpeza in the "Groups:{ .. }" list but not in the "Menu:[ .. ]" list. The menu is constructed so that it has tiles for the tabs ("Name:") and within each tab it has groups listed at the bottom of the tab ("Groups"). The contents of a group are then pulled from the Groups list ("Groups:{ .. }"). It's a complicated way to construct the menu, but it makes it easier to move groups later on if you decide to move a group from one tab to another, or to place a group in a different place on a tab. Oh, your template it's very usefull! For a long time I tried to find a tool with a lot of cite templates links, but I never found until yours. Well, your tips worked wonderfully, but I am having troubles with "More refs" and "More notes" (Mais refs and M-notas, in pt). Another thing it's that I am trying to insert more cite templates, but it's not working. For example, try to copy one of then that it's already listed and try to insert it down. CompactTOC8 was the best method for creating Table-of-Contents listings on articles, but since I created SnipManager it has since been merged into {{Compact ToC}}. I grabbed this version of the localized SnipManager to work with. I was able to add the Album from the earlier version with no problems (see changes here). I am not sure what you mean by adding a date. Can you show me an example of the code you would manually type in an article that needs to be replicated by the script? e.g. {{cite web |title=New Article |url=http://google.com}} would be an example of the cite web template. --Odie5533 (talk) 20:24, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

I'd also like to mention a better method for programming the script: using Scriptish. To use it, first install the Scriptish addon in FireFox. Then you need to go here and save your script to your computer as SnipManager.user.js. Then drag and drop the JavaScript file onto your FireFox browser. A little window will pop up asking if you'd like to install it. Say yes, and then the script will be installed to your browser locally. To make live changes to the script, go to Firefox \/ in the upper left of the browser and click Add-ons. From the left side choose User Scripts then click the SnippetManager and click the edit button on the right. When you make changes to the script they will show up when you refresh the page in your browser without having to save them to Wikipedia first. Oh...the addon it's great! Well, I don't know what happned, but when I traslated "Cite web" (The template alredy existed in ptwiki, I only inserted in Snipmanager)he started automatically insert today's date in the U.S. format for dates, and I ended up leaving it up, but here in Brazil we use day, month, and year in sequence. It turns out that person templates, as Info Singer or Info Actor, for example, to enter the date of birth or death, there is a template (pt and en version) which is used within these info boxes. As the date comes formatted in cite web, I thought it would be possible to insert these templates in elsewhere too.

I am not completely sure what behavior you are looking for, but I think SnipManager has two methods that come close to what you are after: one is using defeval, which is what I use but probably not what you should use; and the other is using 'default'. My code has: {'title':'Access date:', 'code':'accessdate', 'defeval':'smGetTime()', 'help':'Full date when URL was accessed.'} You could have: {'title':'Access date:', 'code':'accessdate', 'default':'{{subst:#timel: d-m-Y}}', 'help':'Full date when URL was accessed.'} Or you could change it to something like {{subst:#timel: d M Y|now|pt}} where the |pt part specifies to convert the month name to the Portuguese name. When you view the form it will show you the {{subst}} form, but when you save the page it will convert it to the current date. Alternatively, if you just want to provide the user with default data for them to enter in details, you can do that using the 'default' value as well. I'll try this. Well, about "Citar álbum", did you notice that it only appears on Firefox? When I was editing was in Chrome, that's the reason, I guess, that this citar was not working. That's very weird. There's something very strange happening with some scripts. I am an OTRS volunteer and I translated a tool from another's user script...and this tool works with no issue in pictures pages, but it doesn't work in articles pages. When we click the button, it should open a window, we insert the tickets number, and the tool edits the article's talk page. Well, he do all of this, but the script doesn't insert the OTRS template. It just opens for edits. I guess the error it's about ''"location.href = "http://pt.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=" + linktoaddotrs + "&action=edit&otrstype=" + type;"''.

I made your uploads to snipmanager. Well, I was thinking in update a lot of infoboxes in the tool, but I was looking to make it without turning the toolbar into a mess. For example, do you know how can I make a groups of templates, and separate then at the menu? Like templates about sports separated from templates about music, for example. I guess it would create new groups and strings at snip, but I have no idea where can I start.

If there are new features you want, just let me know and I can try to add them. To add groups such as for infoboxes, go to the "Menu":[ area and below "Name":"Infoboxes", is the "Groups":["Common"], line. You can change this to be something like "Groups":["Common", "Sports"],. Then below the menu is the "Groups": part. Look for "Common":{ and you want to add a new group for Sports. See this paste I made for how to add Sports. After you've added it to the Menu and Groups, you finally need to add the form code for the infoboxes to window.smConfig['smForms']. I'm afraid I still don't know exactly where you want it. At the top of SnipManager are Tabs. The Tabs are References, Cleanup, Infoboxes, and Lists. Within the Tab are Groups. The changes resulted in this. It's good to organize by subject, but still gets the initial difficulties of organization. For example, if I create a tab for sports and one for music. Tab sports I'll put football and racquetball, and I'll put music albuns and singers infoboboxes at music tab. However, the list will grow and grow and will occupy the entire browser screen to the right. That's why I said it would be good to have the tab "Infoboxes", and with sports and music into it as subtab to leave Snipmanager access screen compressed. In the version that you created there are not many infoboxes, so there is no need this changes, but in the pt version I will insert several subjects, leaving the access screen in this initial enwiki format very confusing.--

I'm afraid subtabs aren't supported by the jRibbon (and never will be–the project is dead). The Ribbon UI (like in Microsoft Office) isn't really meant to have subtabs. Instead, it has two ways to offer more buttons: drop-down buttons and windows. The windows would be like how Twinkle operates. I found 4 different JavaScript Ribbon UI libraries that I think might fit the bill: jQuery Ribbon, jquery-ui-ribbon, jquery-officebar, and Office Ribbon 2010. The first one seems the best option. Here is an example of the drop-down menu buttons I was talking about. The problem with any of these options is they will require a significant amount of work to implement. At the moment, I believe you and I are the only ones that use SnipManager. I may be able to implement one of these other Ribbon UIs in the future, but I don't have the motivation to do so right now.
