Re: Factoid

Hi Number 57! Funny message. I had thought about it in the past, but I prefer the Random House definition ("an insignificant or trivial fact"). I've never seen the word used in any other context anyway, but thanks for pointing this out. Maybe I'll change the edit summaries for the convenience of those who don't see eye to eye with me on this.

Anyway, I noticed that recently you almost completely disengaged from WikiProject Israel, and are editing less. Planning a comeback? A lot to be done, so little time to do it. I'm working on what I hope will become a GA soon. Will send you a link when it's finished. In fact, I'd like to entirely focus my time on content, but it's difficult when I'm the only "maintenance editor" on the project :)

Where are you seeing problems with this? This is the {{infobox}} default, so shouldn't need to be manually specified in sub-templates. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 17:38, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jordan Angeli

Hello,

I was wondering if you think any college player can ever be notable? To me it seems rather ridiculous that the very best college players in any given sport aren't, in reality, considerably more notable than someone who meets the bare minimum of "1 minute in one professional game."

The women in this AfD all all among the very best college players, and I have taken the time to show they have all been covered in depth by reliable sources. Thus, I respectfully request you reconsider your !vote - that is, unless you feel no current college player could possible be notable for their athletic accomplishments.

Thank you, --ThaddeusB (talk) 14:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, but just to clarify your position is that no college pplayer can ever be notable for sport play (unless they play on a national/olpympic team) - correct? --ThaddeusB (talk) 15:09, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Members of Knesset

I'm sorry that that cdf did not get visibility. I would have opposed it as well. I really don't like all of them jumbled together. Do you think it'd be worth it to relist? --Shuki (talk) 06:20, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Although I wasn't that happy about it, I can see that it is Wikipedia policy not to have "former" categories. I think now we have the template and the list of current ones I can just about let it slide. пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:07, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
WP Policy is virtually never 'the law' and there are a few policy pages that state that. I suggest that we have a subcat 'current members'.--Shuki (talk) 11:37, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Clothes Show Live

Hi Number 57, I was about to start building an article relating to the Clothes Show Live, expanding it out of its home as a sub category on The Clothes Show (TV Show) article, when I saw you had removed a previous attempt citing not credible evidence of importance. I disagree, I've sources to show the exhibition has been running for 20 years and currently pulls an audience of 130,000+ which would qualify it as significant. Before I do any work can you confirm if you agree with my thoughts on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.244.128.162 (talk) 10:03, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

re Scarborough Athletic individual seasons.

Hi author of said articles here.

I cannot see why a level 9 team does not deserve to record its seasons here on Wikipedia as long as they are kept up to date.

I can understand why most clubs at this level don't of course, they have a limited fanbase and poorly documented histories to research.

Scarborough Athletic are quite different in that they have a large fanbase which means quite a lot of supporters take the time and trouble to keep things updated, also the club has a short history which means historical research is relatively straightforward.

I know from talking to fellow supporters that these articles have an audience and are appreciated.

If the articles do get zapped however I would be interested to know at what level we would have to attain to reintroduce them.

Kind regards.

Eastbourne Borough Seasons

Hi there, I have read the response to the above Scarborough article and I am asking about the same about the Eastbourne Borough seasons, I agree, non league teams don have good sources of documenting thier seasons. Also the Conference National has a mixture of Professional and Semi Profession teams, also teams have both full and part time players in thier squads. The Conference is a national league with potential teams heading towards the Football League. EddersGTI (talk) 11:39, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Deleted article

The page describing Scarborough Town F.C. has been deleted under criterion A7: "No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion" which seems somewhat vague to me. This article concerned a football team which represents a reasonably sized English town. I was unaware the article was under consideration for deletion (there was no indication on the page itself) or that there was any discussion about a possible deletion. As a football fan, I regularly use Wikipedia to find information on a number of clubs, and am absolutely positive that a Scarborough Town F.C. article would be of interest to a great number of people. There are Wikipedia articles on other clubs at the same level of football and in the same league, so I really cannot understand this deletion. Is there any chance of reconsideration or at least some recommendation as to how any future article may be improved in order to meet criterion A7? Thanks for your time. Academic2008 (talk) 22:07, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Scarborough Town F.C.

Thank you for your response with regard to Scarborough Town F.C. Hopefully our club will increase its importance if/when it climbs from the Wearside League into the Northern League. The current significance of the club is perhaps illustrated above by the totally unnecessary comments of the contributor representing Scarborough Athletic, a team which has never played a single game in Scarborough and has no connection with the former Scarborough F.C. other than the support of football-hungry fans who had been left without a club in the town. With regard to the "levels" or "steps" of non-league football, the town of Scarborough is geographically very isolated and is not really covered by any "pyramid" contributory league; our only two choices were to follow Scarborough Athletic into the Northern Counties East League (and we were in fact invited by this league to make an appplication) or to take the less-confrontational alternative route offered by the Wearside/Northern Leagues which is the route we have chosen. Thanks once again for taking the time to explain Wikipedia policy on this matter. Academic2008 (talk) 14:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David O'Connor (footballer)

Can I ask that you remove your closure of this, and have a neutral Admin close. The whole debate is whether LOI is professional or not ... and you've made your views on this very clear in the past. Nfitz (talk) 03:14, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I won't reverse the decision, as it was made using primary source facts. пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:12, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't asking you to find another admin to close it based on whether or not the facts was correct; or whether or not the league is professional or not. I am asking you to have someone else to close it, as you do not fit the criteria of "disinterested admin or user", and I have concern about the validity of the closure. Nfitz (talk) 22:54, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
The link you referred me to states "a disinterested (i.e. one who has not participated in the deletion discussion) admin".
The link says that AfD should be closed by a disinsterested Admin, and proceeds to give an example. While you didn't contribute to the deletion discussion, the deletion was also discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues#FAI Premier Division - professional or not!?! where you had contributed extensively with posts such as [1] [2] [3] [4]. There is no way that you are not an disinterested admin. Nfitz (talk) 12:12, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
  • I agree with Nfitz, I think you should be pretty embarrassed to be honest. You deleted an article when there was no concensus to delete and where you have a strong opinion on the subject. How in the name of god can you not consider the a conflict of interest? Unless you address this issue in a serious manner then I will have to report this. Please respond here so that others can follow the discussion.--Vintagekits (talk) 14:38, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
    • There were six delete votes, all of which cited WP:ATHLETE. In contrast, the three keep votes cited either nothing (Eldumpo and BigDunc, who merely gave their personal opinions) or WP:FOOTYN (which is an essay, not a guideline). In addition, "opinion" does not come into it. It is a clear fact that the league is not fully professional - this is not open to interpretation or Wikilawyering. It's a pretty open and shut case, but you're more than welcome to complain elsewhere though. пﮟოьεԻ 57 15:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
      • Is an AfD a vote count or a discussion? Actually the first 3 of the delete !votes simply outline the it doesnt pass athelete because he didnt play in a professional league. Yet following that evidence was provided that the LoI had infact been professional at a time - from that point on it was 3 keeps and 3 deletes.
      • Do you consider that it was appropriate that in the space of two edits you blocked an editor (me) that you were in a dispute with and then in the next edit you close a AfD on a subject which you are directly engaged in a duspute over in a way that suits you POV? Do you consider that you may be abusing you powers as an admin when you have a Conflict of Interest?--Vintagekits (talk) 16:22, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Elliot Benyon

Thanks for your reply to my message about this. With the new season the point is about to become moot, but for future reference I'd like some clarification on how you're applying WP:ATHLETE. Benyon's club, Torquay United have been fully professional throughout their history, even though some teams in the conference are part-time. Benyon thus appears to me to be a 'fully-professional' athlete and worthy of an article. I'd be interested in your thoughts. Chrislintott (talk) 12:14, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Tanzanian elections

re: Template:Tanzanian elections - I really checked this one.

Your ref probably used wikipedia as a source.

Look at List of Presidents of Tanzania - and read any article about Julius Nyerere. He was there for 20 years - there were no elections at all. To quote that article :-

Nyerere became its first Prime Minister on December 9, 1961. A year later Nyerere was elected President of Tanganyika when it became a Republic. .... Nyerere announced that he would retire after presidential elections in 1985.

There seems to have been more activity in Prime Ministers - see List of Prime Ministers of Tanzania - but I am not sure if they were elected or appointed. Tanzania was a one party state.

Also, in History_of_Tanzania#Recent_history, I see - In October 1995, one-party rule came to an end when Tanzania held its first ever multi-party election.. (I fixed that date - the whole article is very pro-Zanzibar).

I also find this :-

To form a sole ruling party in both parts of the union Nyerere merged TANU with the Zanzibar ruling party, the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP) of Zanzibar to form the CCM (Chama cha Mapinduzi-CCM Revolutionary Party), on February 5, 1977. The CCM was to be the sole instrument for mobilizing and controlling the population in all significant political or economic activities. [...] The merger was reinforced by principles enunciated in the 1982 union constitution and reaffirmed in the constitution of 1984.

President Nyerere stepped down from office and was succeeded as President by Ali Hassan Mwinyi in 1985.

I will leave you to do the edits. Wizzy 16:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Haim Gvati

I appreciate all the work you are doing.

Haim Gvati is spelled as Haim Gvati. The name is derived from Kibbutz Gvat. It is listed that way in the Knesset website, and any Hebrew speaker who is familiar with his name will pronounce it as Gvati. Please change it accordingly, as I have done a lot of work to correct all the links. Thank you, Wierzba (talk) 15:07, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

This is not about pronunciation, but on vowels (as in Niqqud). גבעתי is indeed Givati. גבתי is not. The name at hand is גבתי, in which the ג is with Shva and not Hiriq. And then there's also the Knesset website. Wierzba (talk) 18:59, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
I believe Wierzba is correct. The name appears to be Gvati, not Givati. —Ynhockey (Talk) 22:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. We are all here to learn. In regards to the Knesset website - if you have any formal proof of transliteration that needs to be amended, please provide it to the Knesset website staff. I know that for the past 20 years or so the names were provided by the MKs themselves, but prior to that your claim is unfortunately true. Wierzba (talk) 16:44, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of the Foswiki article

Hi,

my name is Michael Daum and I want to comment on the deletions of the Foswiki page.

I do understand and appreciate that you try to keep Wikipedia free from unnecessary stuff based on your notability rules.

Now let me explain why I do think that Foswiki is of course notable. This might not have been expressed clearly enough before.

In the past TWiki received numerous official awards and acknowledgements. That's why it is notable in the Wikipedian sense. Note, however, that this success was build by an open source community working for 10 years on this software. Last year this community left TWiki, as you probably might know already. TWiki has been taken over by a newly founded company called TWiki.net that acquired the trademark rights to use it for commercial purposes. The company was unwilling to let others to continue to work on TWiki and forbid all former contributors access to TWiki.org, even though all pages on TWiki.org are marked to be the property of all those contributors. Well sad story.

These events culminated in the creation of Foswiki. That's where all core developers and stakeholders other than TWiki.net continue to work. Since then TWiki.org became a dead place without a notable community. That's because this community now switched over to Foswiki.

TWiki's awards and acknowledgements have _not_ been achieved by TWiki.net a relatively young company although they recast the achievements of the open source projects as theirs.

Those people that made all of this happen on TWiki are all working on Foswiki now. As Foswiki is a direct continuation of TWiki's codebase being maintained by the same people that formerly worked on TWiki it's success and notability very well carries over to this new project.

If on the other side, if notability does _not_ carry over from TWiki to Foswiki, it now less than ever carries over to TWiki.net. That's however what this company claims and tries to build a business model upon.

Imho, if you continue to see TWiki notable today, you must also admit that Foswiki is. That's because the people that made TWiki a success are all continuing their work under the Foswiki name.

I hope that these few words might help you to decide on Foswiki being notable and that we can start writing a nice article about this great software very soon.

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michael Daum.

Request for peer review

Hello 57, I'm looking for good editors to conduct a peer review of an article I'm thinking of submitting as a featured-article candidate, and you were recommended as someone who is knowledgeable in this area and fair. It's 1948 Palestinian exodus from Lydda and Ramla. In particular, I'd be interested to know whether there are any factual errors, glaring omissions of key sources or significant points of view, and whether it's a fair overview.

If you're busy or otherwise unable or unwilling, that's fine, so please feel free to ignore this request if it's inconvenient. Best, SlimVirgin talk|contribs 06:18, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Howdy! I see you deleted Nerya Aminov as a SD under A7. If you check the history, it was tagged with CSD a few days ago and I contested it and posted on the talk page to wait a bit. OK. I guess I was mistaken. I'd still ask that you restore it and let it run through a few more days before putting it up for deleteion. FYI, we're trying to eventually change all instances of Infobox Kibbutz to Infobox Israel village. In fact, I think you proposed the idea a couple years ago. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 22:22, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

The idea is that when all instances of Infobox Kibbutz are changed to Infobox Israel village, we can move the template. Right now, most of the locality articles still use the Infobox Kibbutz template, so it would not be helpful to move just yet (unless someone is willing to make over 1,000 changes very quickly). Re: Hadash

Whilst I agree with you that the party has moved towards Palestinian nationalism, you can't use an opinion piece from a newspaper and quote verbatim to insert this as if it were a fact. Try the Congressional Research Service or some other source that details parties' agendas. пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:43, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

I do not know where you assumed it was my opinion. I have not used opinion pieces to set in stone (in the infobox for example) a party's political agenda. Rather, I added it as a discussion to the body of the article. (I hope you realize that I was the first [or among the first] to source Israeli political parties with the Congressional Research Service. You may credit me for adding "civil libertarian" to Meretz.) I recall reading somewhere (I thought it was the Hadash article) many voters being disillusioned with the Hadash party because they felt it focused on Arab nationalism at the cost of its communist roots. Recently, I could not find that in the article, and as any Wikipedia knows, I need a source. Yes, i found it in an opinion piece, and I cited it just as it should be. The idea that I "can't use an opinion piece from a newspaper and quote verbatim to insert this as if it were a fact" is completely baseless. For one, I never quoted it as a fact, I quoted it specifically as the opinion of an author of a newspaper (and even added the political orientation of that paper. I have done the same with Kadima.
And I, and all Wikipedians, certainly CAN quote opinion pieces--and cite them as such. The discussion of Hadash's politics is not found in the article. It would be a good idea to add it, which is why I felt it important to find a source. Really. One sentence from a piece that pretty much sums up the criticism against Hadash's alleged "drift" is relevant and necessary. It should be correctly cited, and it is. --Shamir1 (talk) 06:54, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: Political shifting Israel-related articles

Your "concerns" are pretty laughable. I have carefully studied each party here and in the mass media. Despite the ridiculousness of your claims, I will address them:

  • I did not "move" Likud from right to center-right, rather, I reverted a user who was trying to do the opposite. In order to keep the original, I found strong encyclopedic sources to cite it.
  • I did not "move" Kadima from anywhere to anywhere. I have contributed much to the article to get a picture of its very broad political platform. I already included the reasons to add "center and center-left" in the discussion page. I clarified the position (and if I may say so, did a good job in both the introduction and elsewhere in the body of the article). In very simple terms, it is part of the left-wing bloc in the Knesset, is sometimes called center-left in the media by mainstream sources, and it includes former Labor politicians. So I tried to make it as clear and comprehensive as I could. You may also be "concerned" about this sentence in the New York Times: "In other words, Kadima has edged closer to the position of Labor, making it more left-of-center than centrist at a time when the national mood may be more hawkish."[5]
  • The Jerusalem Post (you should read their editorials) article contradicted itself at times. It already said (before my edits) that it has moved from the right to adopt a more complex centrist position, yet the infobox remained outdated. And what did I do before editing that? I got a strong reliable source to cite it with. See the body of the article.

So, be concerned all you want. I've properly and responsibly sourced all the edits you are using as some sort of "evidence" to purport your rather ridiculous case. I get very ticked off when an editor assumes another is editing out of bad faith (and without proper evidence). If you're allegations were true I'd be calling Meretz "socialist," and I wouldnt be planning to make edits to the Zionist Organization of America that describe Klein's shift of the organization to the right. I have edited many Israeli parties--not just the three you chose to put here--and made their political positions more comprehensive. But I must have add an ulterior motive when I added descriptions of Meretz's New Movement, its civil libertarianism, anti-occupation appeal, as well as when I made additions to Haaretz newspaper. :D I'd be more concerned about cautioning yourself to make sure you do not make baseless accusations on the discussion board of another editor.

יד?

Hi. I noticed the infobox you've put in the Democratic List for Israeli Arabs article. Is there any reference to the ballot letters of the party? I'm wondering a bit, since i don't know which arabic ballot letters to match it with. File:Mapai-arabic.png gives three different Arabic ballot letters for the Arabic Mapai allies, ain, ya-alif and ra-alif. Which would correspond to this party? --Soman (talk) 10:36, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: 2008 Ethiopian elections

In reference to this edit & comment, you may want to read the article first. The elections were held through-out Ethiopia, for both empty seats in the Parliament & local offices. Based on that, I don't see how this election shouldn't be included -- although I may be wrong about the name of the article. -- llywrch (talk) 19:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Take another look at the lead now. (I just noticed I forgot to include a verb in the 2nd sentence :-/) -- llywrch (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
That might be a good idea. There are about half-a-dozen elections that merit some mention in this navbox, including referenda (e.g., adoption of the 1987 constitution), so that template will likely be expanded in the near future. -- llywrch (talk) 19:47, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

All things joyful that are level 9 clubs?

Sorry to trouble you--

It seems I've opened Pandora's box by doing this[7]. Only a minute ago did I see that you apparently have made similar efforts. Needless to say, I didn't exactly get a warm welcome. Understandable. I was comforted a bit (I think) after seeing that you at least started with the same opinion I have presently. Mostly, I'm wondering how you dealt with it all. Unfortunately, backing out of it isn't an option for me at this point, as I can't let something that out of bounds sit in the encyclopedia. Just in case you get bored some evening and want to laugh at someone else's suffering (me, in this case, I guess), the de facto talk section would seem to be here[8]. Though I have a really bad feeling about this, I can't make exceptions. Reading the talk page, any consensus on the "continuation" matter looked like a rush job of a bunch of contradicting sources, followed by about a year of edit warring.

I gave 2 generic options: 1) it's the same club thus it's all on the same article, so merge the basic info onto the old club's article (no endless stats), or 2) it's separate and level is too low to qualify. 'Tis all I can really think up, and I'm more than happy to give the primary contributors that choice... but for some reason I'm not expecting an answer. I intend to wait on AfD for another day, or until I speak more with them. *sigh* daTheisen(talk) 12:37, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

I've noted it now, yes. The ambiguity of eligibility for Vase and Cup is listed differently for each team. I see that a Cup round was played in August vs Vase last year... a extra-preliminary round, but if it's official it's official. Alright. Oh, and I had asked since I saw you poke in on a previous talk page related. ...There are still a lot of PRODs for levels 9-11... before pondering them, the general opinion that leagues of 9s and 10s auto-clear but what about leagues of 10s-11s? Re: Israeli localities

Hi Number 57! Thank you very much for the article! I am glad that its author positively singled out Israel. Of course, the fact that we are where we are is largely thanks to your efforts at article creation, and it is much appreciated. I hope to work more in the future on articles related to places in Israel, and have recently expanded a few such small articles, although time constraints create a bit of a problem in this regard. Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz

Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz is a Webpage that I created that you deleted I was hoping you could undo what you did

Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz has just been appointed as the Bostoner Rebbe of Jerusalem, after the passing of his father Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz This person is very significant and noteworthy and worthy of a wikipedia page just like any biography of a famous person living today

Please salvage the page or explain what has to be done to put the page back up

Thank you BetzalelGersten (talk) 19:15, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

You wrote: The reason I deleted the article is that there was no assertion of notability - being a rabbi or the offspring of some notable does not confer notability. If you have independent, reliable sources that discuss him in length (e.g. the Jerusalem Post), then I would reconsider

I have found the following English references online www.jewishpress.com/pageroute.do/41871 (Jewish Press is Americas largest independent Jewish weekly) http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=43312 (which is a popular Jewish Religious online newspaper - as can be seen from its Alexa.com rating http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theyeshivaworld.com%2F?p=tgraph&r=home_home) http://jewishupdates.com/2009/12/13/three-sons-to-succeed-bostoner-rebbe-as-admorim-of-bostoner-chassidus/

As Rabbi Mayer Horowitz is based in Israel there are also many hebrew websites (as I know you can find רבי מאיר אלטר הלוי שליט"א in the Hebrew) www.shtaygen.co.il/?CategoryID=851&ArticleID=6304 www.bhol.co.il/news_read.asp?id=13854&cat_id=2 www.bhol.co.il/forum/topic.asp?cat_id=4&topic_id=2728498&forum_id=771 www.ladaat.net/forum/index.php?topic=45932

There are also many contemporary Jewish magazines that R' Mayer Horowitz has written for and has been written up in. I can get a list of these if that would help. He has also chartered many institutions in both Boston, MA as well as in Israel, again I can get you a list, but I don't know how to get copies of original primary sources.

Also as Rabbi Mayer Horowitz has just succeeded his father as Bostoner Rebbe, his notoriety will continue steadily with time. Of course I can only continue to update the wikipedia pages with sources if there is a wikipedia page. For example, an article about him was written in the Hebrew Hamodia in Israel last week, and the English Hamodia based in New York has him on page c22 in the December 30, 2009 paper. Also an the Jewish Tribune, a UK weekly newspaper features him on page 16 and also highlights him on pg 6 of the December 31, 2009 addition. I can furnish you copies of these if you wish

If you could respond to my talk page and/or get the wikipedia page back up I would appreciate it.

Quotation marks in code

Hi Number 57! Please note that it is good practice to add quotation marks where appropriate in code, not remove them. For example:

align="center"

Not:

align=center

This makes it easier for the parser to work (more efficient) and prevents certain parsing problems in complex code. It also created valid code. FYI.

Naming

Hello. I noticed you've edited the template, and I would like to propose renaming of {{Czechoslovakian elections}} and linked articles to "Czechoslovak elections". The proper adjective is "Czechoslovak", in line with adjectives "Czech" and "Slovak", not "Czechoslovakian", although this form is also used in English. Regards. - Darwinek (talk) 14:04, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

The fact, that you did not hear it is not a valid argument. :) The form "Czechoslovak" is just the correct one, the same way as "Slovak", not "Slovakian". Moreover it is used widely throughout the WP and the real world. See, e.g. the Czech Republic official promotion website or the Slovak Republic official promotion website. - Darwinek (talk) 20:09, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

I have no idea whether there was any justification in any of those accusations, and I have no interest in finding out: I am willing to assume good faith on your part. Lawrie Wilson

Hi, at 16:46, 1 December 2008 you deleted a page about Lawrie Wilson – citing that there was "no indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion". Wholeheartedly agree with the decision to delete the article given that although Wilson had played for a Football League club before in the form of Colchester United, he had never played first–team football – and subsequently does not meet the guidelines for inclusion. However, he is currently playing for Stevenage, who are newly-promoted and Football League bound, will it be fine for me to go ahead and create the article on him now? Thanks. Maccabi Tel Aviv

Are you serious???? it is not cleaning you just deleated 3/4 of the article why?? Maccabit (talk) 08:46, 27 August 2010 (UTC) With all due respect the on your opinion it is more important that maccabi lost 4-0 to Hapoel Acre at the cup 5 years ago and not the fact she changed owners twise and the middle of huge rebuilding and by the way maybe you should look some of the European eams articles the resemble tho the old look and not your modification. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maccabit (talkcontribs) 09:20, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

So on your opinion Maccabi has no history after the 4-0 loss 5 years ago ??? You can't just delete info because you don't like how it looks edit it , refrase it as you want but don't delete it completely as it never happened.Maccabit (talk) 09:40, 27 August 2010 (UTC) And the fact Maccabi changed owners twice is not worth to mention ???? You are making no sense. This article is supposed to tell Maccabi's history the only thing you seems want to mention is that the club lost 10-0 to haifa and 4-0 to Acre as sort of a milestone but the real thing like the club changing owners is not worth to mentionMaccabit (talk) 11:02, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello. You've previously deleted an article on Lyle Taylor as it was for a player who had not made an appearance in a professional game, and hence met WP:ATH. That player made his debut last night, thus meeting the guidelines details here - can you let me have a copy of the deleted content to my sandbox so I can work it up, add references and recreate the article? Merging of non league stadiums

I notice you are beginning a task of merging certain stadium articles in with main articles. You are doing this stating your belief that stadium which have never hosted national-level football or rugby should not be included. Is this agreed criteria WP:FOOTBALL or is it your POV? if it's your POV which it seems it is, aren't you guilty of breaking the first rule you set out in wikiproblems section on your userpage? If it isn't WP:FOOTBALL criteria, then how do you decide what has and hasn't 'hosted national-level football'? Isn't the FA Cup a national competition? I could argue most of the grounds you have merged have hosted FA Cup matches which means they have hosted national level football? example being Croft Park which you have delinked from the Template:Conference North Venues ready to merge into a main article for Blyth Spartans F.C.. Only 2 season ago this ground hosted Shrewsbury Town F.C. and Blackburn Rovers F.C., the later shown live on TV. My belief is that your criteria for taking on this task is flawed and your POV is not part of WP:FOOTBALL criteria. DJhinckley (talk) 17:17, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Hatikva (political party)

Thats just it, that was the only reason. Not disputing whether it is or not, but certain times like this go against the grain of consensus/common knowledge, and this need a clarification.

For example, just today i saw an article that said "liberal-conervative," which as you know is oxymoronic. but i wikilinked it to something that does clarify it. Doesnt seem to be a link to that, so i tagged it. But if you could either explain int he article or under a <ref> tag, then that would be fine.(Lihaas (talk) 10:23, 16 October 2010 (UTC)).

Granted perhaps, but thats a large chunk of readers. Its not the view of the editors alone. Even readers would, again European politics apparently doesnt represent a {{globalise}} view.(Lihaas (talk) 11:30, 16 October 2010 (UTC)).
Also could you clarify "secular right-winged" at elast in the ref tag?Lihaas (talk) 10:52, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

I see you have made significant changes to the Cheshunt FC page. Can you explain why these changes have been made? The previous page was more detailed. The version you have replaced it with is roughly half the size, contains much less information and is, in my and several other supporters of the club, inferior. I am curious what reasons you had for making these alterations?

Bahraini parliamentary election, 2010

i know theres a mistake coming out, but can we correct it instead of removing it?Lihaas (talk) 14:38, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

So if im understanding right you need at least 2 parties for it to work? (as in this case) because i dont know why this doesnt work.
Per npov, it doesnt really become so, you just list the biggest winners (which is dependent purely on factual voting and not editoral opinion). We planned to do this in Sweden to lsit just the main ones, but then someone corrected the imagfes so we didnt need to.Lihaas (talk) 14:46, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
not "big," "biggest." as in based directly on the numbers the X # of parties. For one parties that didnt get a seat dont get mention, and for coalition based countries (particularly india and israel, though not Lebanon becasue liek Sweden the alliance would be mentioned) say 2,3,6 seem decent but that could be challenged and consensus gained on respective articles. Infoboxes do offer quick insights into results. (ie- aid navigation)Lihaas (talk) 15:02, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Edit war (1 November)

I had no choice but to report you at WP:AN3 for your edit warring at Eretz Yisrael Shelanu. --Shuki (talk) 13:37, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

The dispute here involves four reverts by you in 25 hours and four reverts by Shuki over a longer time. An admin might be tempted to block both of you. It would help your case if you would undo your last change and propose some method of solving the dispute, for example an RFC or a centralized discussion. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 14:40, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

12 hour block

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 12 hours for edit warring. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. PhilKnight (talk) 15:58, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

This appears to be some kind of bad joke. If reverting biased edits by a user with a history of inserting pro-Israel right-wing bias to articles results in this kind of treatment, then quite frankly there is no point in editing here anymore. I suggest the original report is looked at again in a bit more detail. I make no apologies for the edits in question, and I will continue to revert biased edits Shuki make as long as I am able to. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:05, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Decline reason:

In that case, you'll find yourself repeatedly getting blocked for edit warring, and eventually you'll not be allowed to edit Wikipedia at all. Is that really what you want? --jpgordon::==( o ) 16:43, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You are still avoiding any discussion on why inserting information sourced to two RS including Haaretz which you yourself will not deny is an RS is considered POV when I do it. I do not think that ynetnews and Haaretz are reporting pro-Israel right-wing sources, do you? --Shuki (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
There is nothing to discuss with the likes of yourself. You are only here to insert biased information to articles that favours your point of view. Sadly Wikipedia does not ban the likes of yourself and Nableezy on sight, and that is its major shortcoming. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:22, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
In my opinion, as an admin, you should be attempting to uphold not just WP:NPOV, but also WP:EW. PhilKnight (talk) 16:34, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Then who will actually stop the likes of Shuki and balance the article? Last time he started these edits to the same article (June last year), another editor (Mashkin) stepped in to revert him as well, but (s)he is no longer editing. My experience is that no admins ever seem interested in getting rid of the POV pushers who so damage Israel/Palestinian articles (some have been around for as long as I've been editing - 2006 and beyond), so sometimes the only option is just to keep reverting until they go away. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:41, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
There have to be other alternatives, such as finding more admins willing to help out in ArbCom Enforcement, or finding more neutral editors willing to edit in this area. However, I don't believe that allowing admins to edit war is a solution. PhilKnight (talk) 17:07, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
57, relax. I didn't want a block, just for you to step back down and get some sense. But you are clearly unrepentant and still refuse to collaborate here. Adding 'far-right' is balance to the article? As the party even done anything that you can say it needs 'balance'? Tell me, were you Mashkin? That editor was a tireless SPA. I hope you're not going to wake up that attitude. Gimme a break mentioning Nableezy and I in the sme sentence. One of us has created, expanded and maintained hundreds of articles while the other is concerned with making Israel look bad. --Shuki (talk) 18:22, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Number57, your comment above leaves me a bit mystified. I only "insert biased information to articles that favours [my] point of view" and I should be "banned on sight"? Really? If you dont want to discuss that now that is fine, but I hope you will give me the courtesy of an explanation at some point in the future. nableezy - 18:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Number57, as it happens you mentioned Shuki and Nableezy in your above comment. Just so you know, they're currently restricted to 1RR until the end of the year. PhilKnight (talk) 18:52, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Nigerien elections articles

Any particular reason you've chosen to remove large, referenced, portions of of several articles on several past Nigerien elections. [1 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nigerien_presidential_election,_1999&curid=11846102&diff=394438149&oldid=345050863] [2 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nigerien_presidential_election,_1993&curid=21059791&diff=394366812&oldid=334408456] [3 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nigerien_constitutional_referendum,_1992&curid=22441700&diff=394363389&oldid=374727912] The edit summaries of "Cleanup" and "Cleanup a bit" don't offer much insight, or arguments for removing large sections. Might I suggest some compromise, perhaps replacing the previous tables as you have and either keeping the text blocks you've removed (re: first & second round endorsements and alliances), or working them into other articles?

You also might want to be careful moving between nations rapidly: you've inserted "Politics of Djibouti" headings into at least one Nigerien article. T L Miles (talk) 02:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Consensus discussion

As you were involved in the debate over infoboxes in Israeli electoral articles, please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Elections_and_Referendums#Election_infoboxes for helping to determine a formal consensus.--Metallurgist (talk) 18:15, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

DO NOT Revert any further. This will end up in a revert war review, which may not help you. The precedent and existing consensus appears to be in my favor regarding election articles. You unilaterally reverted edits without looking for a consensus. Then when your reversions were put back in place, you again went and created your own order. Until the issue is resolved, the infoboxes should stay since that is how it started. You do not get to choose what the "neutral" position is. And again, check other electoral articles to see if they have a "large white space" and if they do or dont, take it up with the infobox talk page. Do not selectively delete infoboxes because you dont like them.--Metallurgist (talk) 21:25, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Im not trying to be lazy and an ahole, but I cant be the intermediary when you are having a problem I am having and they are the ones who know the actual code of the infobox. I only fill out the form: "Likud, 27 seats, etc..." I have no idea why you are having problems and it appears systemic for your browser and infoboxes. Alberto Ohaco

Could you have a look into this for me please and make sure that something gets done about it. I don't do much around here anymore and that kind of thing is the reason why. Could you ensure that the Alberto Ohaco article is restored, or failing that let me have a copy of the text so I can host it elsewhere? It certainly was not a copyvio when I wrote it, I did all of the painstaking research myself. Perhaps someone else added copyvio material later on or the deleting admin got confused by a mirror site, I don't know. I just think that a knee jerk deletion without even bothering to notify the established author who wrote the thing is damaging to the project. Well it is if you attach any value to my contributions over the years and consider the fact that I have gone from 50-100 article creations a month down to 1 creation in the last six months because of crap like this. Cork City F.C.

Hi, would you be able to lend some support to merge the Cork City FORAS Co-op article with the Cork City F.C. article please?

The 2011 fixture list released by the FAI calls the club Cork City: http://www.airtricityleague.ie/images/stories/2011_Season_Airtricity_League_Fixture_List.pdf

The new crest, as can be seen in this article, shows "Cork City Football Club" and "1984".

It has already been shown on the official club website back in June and a solicitors website that everything good from the previous holding company is now owned by the supporters' trust FORAS: http://www.corkcityfc.net/home/2010/06/01/its-in-the-right-hands/ and http://www.ohod.ie/index.php/news

Featherstone RUFC

Hi, I notice that you have made contributions to the Featherstone article. The current rugby league club, Featherstone Rovers, wasn't founded until 1902, and appears to have no links to the earlier rugby union (RU) club. However, I have contributed to an article about James "Jimmy" Metcalfe, and I have found details of him playing for Yorkshire (RU) in 1896/7 while playing at Featherstone (RU), would you have any information about the RU club of the 1800s in Featherstone. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 13:21, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your prompt response. Would you be interested in helping me extract a cache of gold from a military dictatorship in the third world? =;o). Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 14:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Egypt help

there is a discussion that is ongoing and someone has gone and moved the page alread in 4 hours when most people havent even been able to discuss as they are sleeping in the region where the event occurs. Furthermore the name is being discussed and the current one is unilaterally against MOS.[13]

please also see the commetns after the unilateral posting, even for those who supported the move the proper noun name was absolutely unilateral.(Lihaas (talk) 20:23, 11 February 2011 (UTC)).

Thanks

For updating the Ethiopian election pages that you've done. It is hard to find detailed information on Ethiopian topics, & every little bit helps. BTW, would you have any information about the Ethiopian referendum held in 2002 (if I have the year right), which led to the boundaries of the Oromo & Somali Regions being redrawn? I only know that it happened, & that the redrawn boundaries led to violence by & against the Oromo & Somali nationalities. -- llywrch (talk) 00:32, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Template

I am sorry, but why are you (almost) edit warring on Template:Kosovan elections? :)))

Templates, Talk:Kosovo-stub and Talk:Politics_of_Kosovo
(Kosovo Republic flag and Coat of Arms removal consensus)

Per this, no Kosovo flag should be used when only word Kosovo is in the question. Also, RoK was declared in 2008, so as this template backs to 2000, do you have ANY argument for that revert? And, template history may be at help. Even without this agreement, this flag should be removed per WP:MOSFLAG, and "Do not emphasize nationality without good reason", and not to mention "Use historical flags in contexts where the difference matters". Per all of this, flag should be removed. --WhiteWriter speaks 23:34, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

OMg! :) First and foremost, RoK does not have control over entire North Kosovo. That part is under control of Serbia. Then, your link made me think of one thing. In that template, some elections (most) was not started by RoK, but template have RoK flag. So, your argument is that Kosovo is independent state, and therefor we should use the flag. Here on wiki, we have agreement that kosovo is not independent state, then a disputed territory, as you may see on Kosovo page. All flags was removed per agreements i told you already. I dont know are you aware of WP:ARBMAC, the most important ARB regarding this subject. Per that, it is not important what do you, or i think, then what is consensus agreement on wiki. We have agreement that flag should not be used. Per that, this template is not an exception. And one more friendly advice! :) Dont write "they can f*** off"... Some passing admin can react on that. We must edit wiki with a smile!! :) :) :) Anyway, what do you say? --WhiteWriter speaks 13:32, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
You are an admin? Then your non negotiable reaction is even stranger to me.... --WhiteWriter speaks 13:34, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Wow, very rude of you. Anyway, per that, this "conversation" is over, i suppose..... --WhiteWriter speaks 14:36, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

1981 Israeli Election

I may well have the wrong year. I tried to remember in which years (and consequently which subsequent elections) were affected by the changes. A lot of my reading comes from other Wikipedia articles which may also be wrong. Unfortunately when the Knesset changes as often as it does its hard to keep up. Since you have way more expertise with Israel than I have, feel free to make any corrections necessary. Quidam65 (talk) 15:11, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Liga Leumit

Re FPL, have you got a source indicating that the Liga Leumit is no longer professional, as the source provided indicates there are two professional leagues in Israel. Eldumpo (talk) 19:50, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for responding swiftly, but as you know sourcing is the basis of any entries in Wikipedia. Where is the evidence that the 2nd level is no longer professional. Are there sources that indicate some of the current 2nd-level teams are not professional? As an aside, when did this restructuring take place, as presumably you agree that it was professional up to a certain year anyway? Eldumpo (talk) 20:09, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
I can see where you're coming from, but hopefully you can see where I'm coming from, re the need for sources. I'm sure it would not be deemed acceptable for someone to add a pro league to the list without sources, on the basis of their knowledge of the league. Having said that, you clearly have a knowledge of the league and I accept the average attendances are on the low side. I do think that overall the source is a good one, as it's from FIFA and explicitly talks of two professional leagues, and sources should not be automatically considered irrelevant just because they are a few years old. The key point is the extent to which the change that happened for 2009/10 is significant enough to change the basis of the original source, and I would say the change is not necessarily significant enough to warrant it although this is the arguable point (if the Israeli FA had abolished the 2nd national tier and created 3 regional tiers instead that would be different). There are Hebrew references relating to the restructure at both Liga Leumit and 2008–09 Liga Leumit - do neither of those provide information on rationale for the restructure and change of professional status?
I don't agree with your assertion that Liga Leumit was never professional, as this goes against a good source (the only source at present). As a way forward/compromise, I suggest that LL is kept in the Pro list with the wording 'until 2008-09', but with a tag saying disputed/source needed (or similar), and that LL is also added to the not pro list (which should in any case should say 'the highest non-professional league in a country's league structure) with the wording '2009-10 on'. What do you think? Eldumpo (talk) 11:03, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I have now added Liga Leumit into the Pro list with a date cut-off. I did not put on a disputed tag but just noted that further sources are required, as this ties with the rest of the list, as most are now sourced. It would be good if sources could be found, although I suspect they may well be Hebrew language, and thus I will not be able to help in their search! Regards. Cheshunt Football Club

Thank you for your recent message though I feel I must take issue with you...

You have constantly reverted the Cheshunt Football Club history back to a truncated version (which, incidentally, I was also originally responsible for creating, though it has been edited so much it is hardly recognisable now) for no aparent reason. 1. You repeat the mantra that it is a 'wikified' version yet the longer, more detailed and more acurate version has many more links and sections conected with it so your reasoning becomes unclear. 2. Compare the two pages. It is clear the version you keep restoring contains less information, skips many individuals conected with the club and ends three years ago - giving the impression it has not been kept up to date. 3. You wiped the Cheshunt Stadium page, which I also created. You say it was not worthy of wikipedia. Why? It is an English sports ground, now in use for 61 years and having hosted several sports and noteworthy events. Several grounds of similar age and importance in the Isthmian league are allowed their own pages so why have you decided - on behalf of wikipedia - that Cheshunt Stadium shouldn't be on a par with them? 4. You point out spelling mistakes yet, rather than correct them, you alter the entire page? 5. You say my connection with the club clashs with wikipedias own rules. I USED to be a committee member but left the club in 2009. I feel I am as qualified as anyone in the world to give an account of the clubs history and since leaving the club, I have written a 200-page club history and held an exhibition at the local museum.

I would be very interested to see your reasons for reverting a perfectly good club history back to a very short and unsatisfactory version and what knowledge you have of the club that qualifies you to do so? Incidentally, I have no interest in any of the other subjects you hold dear on this site and so shall not be altering the pages you have created, even though you have felt the need to alter mine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Waysider (talkcontribs) 09:15, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz - the Bostoner Rebbe of Yerushalayim

Dear Number 57

Back in December 2009 and January 2010 you wrote on my talk page regarding an article I wrote about Mayer Alter Horowitz, the Bostoner Rebbe of Yerushalayim.

You wrote, "The reason I deleted the article is that there was no assertion of notability - being a rabbi or the offspring of some notable does not confer notability. If you have independent, reliable sources that discuss him in length (e.g. the Jerusalem Post), then I would reconsider. пﮟოьεԻ 57 15:27, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately the English references you linked me to are not really enough - they mention his name, but nothing more. The first Hebrew link does not do much more, and the other ones are talkback comments and forum posts, which are not considered to be reliable sources. I'm sorry, but not every rabbi is automatically notable, just like neither is every priest or iman. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 10:46, 5 January 2010 (UTC)"

I agreed with you at the time and understood that it would take time for his notoriety to be recorded in periodicals as he recently took over his father's position as Bostoner Rebbe. Over the past year or so he has been featured in the following news sources that I have collected for you here: https://sites.google.com/site/mosdosbostonint/in-the-public-eye

The independent reliable sources include: The Jerusalem Post (Jerusalem) The Jewish Press (New York) The Jewish Tribune (London) Hamodia (www.hamodia.com) Mishpacha Magazine (www.mishpacha.com) Yeshiva World News (theyeshivaworld.com)

It is not an exhaustive list, but it is what I have been able to get my hands on.

Please help me put back the page for Mayer Alter Horowitz so that it will stay up, and then I can start to update it and provide sources going forward

Thanks for your help, Number 57

Infoboxes

Are you serious? You think you can wait two months and sneakily remove the infoboxes? It has already been determined that you are blatantly in the wrong and they are perfectly legitimate for being there. If you have a problem with the formatting display because the browser you use is coding wrong, take it up in the proper location I pointed out to you last time. Lets not waste our time arguing about this again, when having the infoboxes there has already been supported by the community and precedent in every other election article on Wikipedia.--Metallurgist (talk) 03:12, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

And you don't get to do something completely illogical in this group of articles just because it doesn't fit your wishful thinking how all election articles need to conform to the identical set of naming rules. Just because a few people said in 2007 we should use the overtly wrong demonym, that doesn't make them correct. League of Ireland players being deleted

A Plymouth Argyle fan has decided that most League of Ireland players aren't notable because the league isn't fully professional and players are failing both WP:NFOOTBALL and WP:GNG, players apparently only should have articles if they've played in fully professional leagues, even if their notability comes from playing in Irish football. He's started by deleting Shane Duggan, has moved onto proposing deleting all Cork City's players, and it looks like it will continue on to the majority of League of Ireland players. Most of the discussion is here. Hsetne (talk) 05:32, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Ami'ad

Hello, Number57. I see that you started the above article which I believe does not have any references, just looking quickly. I am interested in where you got your information, particularly the evidence that it was started by Palmach. You may well be right, but the book I am looking at, from the Jewish National Fund (1949). Jewish Villages in Israel. Jerusalem: Hamadpis Liphshitz Press. {{cite book}}: Text "page4" ignored (help) which has a paragraph on it and its establishment, doesn't mention Palmach. Says it was estab on Jewish National Fund land by "graduates of the Hanoar Haoved Movement." Unless you have a source specifically saying Palmach, I think I should change it, what think you? Snakeswithfeet (talk) 04:55, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

That's interesting. The Hebrew Wiki did not give a source either? I don't read Hebrew so I wouldn't recognise it if I saw it. Could you check it out? Snakeswithfeet (talk) 17:03, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
That's weird. When I go there the page is in English but there is a bar atop of it that says it has been automatically translated by Google. That is why I asked about your Hebrew. I was trying to check out the difference between the Palmach sent the founders there and the Palmach actually founded it themselves. Thanks for you help. I'm strongly in favour of clearly stating when a "parliamentary" election was not to the usual parliament, but to a Constitutional Convention or Assembly, as those are vastly different kinds of institutions and elections. —Nightstallion 21:05, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

West Bengal legislative assembly elections, 2011

There have been a couple of moves on this page, while it was AGF on the first move, the challenges never gained consensus for further moves. im proposing a move to the original before the wars and a move lock pending further discussion. Incidentally ive also made a cock-up in an attempt to move it to the original but i cant undo it myself. so i propose additionally to delete all the intermediate names for the page as well. and the currently ncarnation is also not accessible to the talk page.Lihaas (talk) 21:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC) Lihaas (talk) 21:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Algerian Assembly election, 1948

I modified the article, I hope there are no other discrepancies. These elections were important because, as Ferhat Abbas implicitly stated, they proved to the Algerian nationalists that the electoral democratic way was not an option as the colonial administration would never agree to let them happen freely. --Pylambert (talk) 15:05, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

I finally found an official source, so the table is probably accurate now, I checked if all 120 members are now accounted for, they are ! But the template "Algerian elections" should take into account 2 things: 1) the Algerian Assembly was NOT a parliament, just something above a general council 2) there were, since the XIXth century, Algerian MPs and Senators in France, i.e. elected in Algeria, first Europeans, but from 1945 to 1962 there were also Algerian Muslims elected in the French Parliament (fr:Catégorie:Ancien député de l'Algérie française and fr:Catégorie:Ancien sénateur de l'Algérie française), even 3 Secretaries of State in the French Government (fr:Nafissa Sid Cara, fr:Chérif Sid Cara and fr:Abdelkader Barakrok). --Pylambert (talk) 23:58, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Eynesbury Rovers F.C.

I've identified a citation issue in this article that I believe makes it unsuitable for DYK in its present condition: in short, citation #2 is being used for plenty of information that's not in it. As I've said at T:TDYK, I suspect this to be a minor error on your part that could be fixed quite quickly and easily. When you've responded to my T:TDYK comment, would you please leave me a talkback? Unfortunately, I may forget if you don't. Finally, one comment — you use phrases such as "Eynesbury Rovers F.C. is an English football club" and "The club was established in 1897"; isn't it proper to say "F.C. are an English" and "club were"? I'm an American, so I've never learned British rules in this way quite 100%. Nyttend (talk) 02:01, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks; yes, that's what I meant. I just realised something else that's an issue — the entire "Honours" section is uncited. I assumed that it went to citation #3, so I decided to confirm that, add the citation without telling you, and promote the article; however, I discovered that the "Hunts Junior Cup" section is quite different from the "HUNTINGDONSHIRE FA JUNIOR CUP WINNERS" section of that document (page 84), and I can't find anything else in that document that it might be, so I'm simply confused. Please cite that section as well. Nyttend (talk) 12:28, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, you absolutely need to cite that section for verifiability purposes (if for no other reason than that DYK requires everything to be cited, aside from intros); among the problems with the current version is that the cited prose text doesn't support the championships. For example, "They won the Hunts Senior Cup four times between 1946 and 1951" doesn't specify which years, so there's no more reason for me to think they won in 1946-1947 than that they won in 1947-1948. I'm sorry, but this approach simply isn't working. As well, multipage documents need to have the pages cited; you can avoid making lots of different citations by simply appending the {{rp}} template to each citation, such as I've done at Ridgeway Site. Nyttend (talk) 12:49, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
How unusual. Well, we can't be expected to use something that doesn't exist, but we need to indicate that page numbers don't exist, so I've added a note about that to the citation. You've made some sort of error with the ISBN — Special:BookSources/9782908037022 says that there is no such ISBN, and you've not provided a full citation for the book either. What's the publisher? Where was it published? I'm not very familiar with author-date citations, so it's possible that my edit wasn't properly formed either. Nyttend (talk) 13:04, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your help; I would have fixed more myself without bothering you, but I didn't know where to look. I've approved the entry for DYK. Nyttend (talk) 13:20, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Why was the page on Yuri Puchugin deleted?

I'm curious, because it said that the individual was of no importance or something like that.. But, I found the link to his name because his name was in an article about cryobiology, and apparently he's the guy that one of the oldest crypreservation places hired on, who invented some sort of new mixture that was different from the glycerol they used to inject people with....but then after the company didn't bother with a patent, this guy quit? So, I wondered why, and I wanted to know more about this particular person, because I'm curious if he actually developed something viable and was irritated at the non-patent and quit, or if he didn't have the technical background and developed something but maybe it was half-baked, and he quit.

"Yuri Pichugin, Ph.D. who had done research on the Hippocampal Slice Cryopreservation Project (HSCP). HSCP was a project focused on vitrification of rat brain hippocampal slices which involved cooling to −130 degrees Celsius, rewarming and testing for viability. The results of the HSPC were published in the April 2006 issue of the journal Cryobiology."--from Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics_Institute

But wondering if someone still had some information about him that was accurate out there. 192.33.240.95 (talk) 20:30, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Football League.

Number 57,

I wrote what is below to Bretonbanquet, but the same goes to you as well for removing my work on one or more Football Leagues seasons. Apanuggpak (talk) 21:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Mr. Bretonbanquet,

I was, to say the least, not very pleased with your decision to revert my edits, now apparently on more than one of the articles on which I have worked. However, I appreciate your decency in that you at least wrote to me about what you had done and explained your reasons for this.

In response I would like to state the following:

The format of the tables

When I started to work on the various Wikipedia articles on the English football seasons, there was very little available, usually just simple tables, done by someone who calls himself “Nameless User”, with no source indicated.

Presenting data with no mention of a source is, by all accounts, not the desirable way to do things in Wikipedia. In fact, such data could be removed at any time, especially if one replaces them with data with a source.

Also, the tables were done in a very crude way: column widths had not been specified, no empty columns used (and could not have been used since column widths had not been specified) to aid the reader in deciphering what was what in the tables. And hardly any colours being used to aid the readers.

I then came upon the The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (see links below) and their English football seasons pages, and then I heard from the local Sports Museum in my hometown that they are a very authoritative source of information, quite possibly the best and most trustworthy internet source available anywhere.

I started with the Football League on Saturday 2 Jan, 2010, in a situation in which there was more than just a table only for the first ever season, and then some 70 seasons with nothing but the table (and mostly no colours used in the tables).

I decided to base the Wikipedia tables on the The Rec. Sport. Soccer Statistics Foundation table for the reason that they had just about everything that I thought was essential (and because I did not have to type everything myself).

Thus the tables came to have the home and the away statistics separated, in order to present more info than what a simple table would be able to offer. (I also remembered from way back in the 1970’s that that’s how our newspapers presented the tables of the English Football League one every week. — Thus I knew that that was the standard approach in professional circles.)

In our local Sports Museum, they also have a complete collection of the Rothmans Football Yearbooks, starting from 1970–71 (it’s now the Sky Sports Football Yearbook), and I was informed by their football specialist that those books are the ultimate sources on English (and British) football. They also present the tables the same way, only they include full data of the season last in their table; thus they have three sets of things there: (1) home record, (2) away record, (3) total record.

I decided that the last (3rd), could be presented in an abbreviated form, thus making the presentation a bit narrower, and thus easier on the readers of Wikipedia.

Have I removed any information?

You state that I have “removed some very useful features that are required at various stages of the season in order to understand the league tables (such as the promotion / relegation / play-off symbols after the club’s names)

This is simply not true, none of it. Promotion, participation in play-offs, promotion through play-offs, and relegation (or expulsion). These things have been coded into the colours that I have used. And in case you have not noticed: the colour codes are explained in the Key box, presented just below each table.

On the other hand, in the previous tables there would just be a “C”, and a “P”, and a “R”, but nowhere is it explained what these mean. And the colour used for the teams that participated in the play-offs but failed to gain promotion has no explanation at all. I find this very poor service to the readers of these articles.

Have you removed any information in reverting to earlier versions?

In my versions, I had

(1) More detailed maps than were previously available, and in a standard format, starting from the Football League inaugural season of 1888–89, right up until the 2007–08 season.

(2) I also had maps showing the locations of the London teams, and you did away with these as well.

(3) I had infoboxes for all divisions, and you did away with these as well. (And they had a wealth of information, too.)

(4) I had more adequate play-off brackets, and you did away with these as well.

(5) I had a more comprehensive listing of top scorers, including

  • play-off goals,
  • FA Cup goals,
  • FA Trophy goals,
  • League Cup goals,

or at least spaces for these, so that they could be added (possibly by myself, from the Sky Sports Football Yearbooks, as time allows); and you did away with these as well.

(6) I also had sources for every single item I had put in these articles, including the tables. You have reverted to older versions with no sources cited.

When you have decided to remove all this, I am tempted to use the “V” word, and make these facts more widely known.

Use of sources

As I mentioned above, (1) one should always state one’s source when writing in Wikipedia.

In addition, in my opinion,

(2) Secondly, reliable printed sources should take precedence over what is available in the internet.

(3) Thirdly, if the most reliable internet source and the most reliable printed source agree, then one can safely assume that one has the correct data in one’s Wikipedia presentation.

To my knowledge, I have used the ultimate sources, both in the internet (The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation, for the Football League throughout its history, until a couple of seasons ago, and for the Football Conference, starting with the first data they present, i.e. from the 2003–04 season on.)

Posssible difficulties with the format of the tables

Your difficulties in reading the tables might be the consequence of a computer screen that is too narrow to be able to display everything correctly. When I started this work, my screen was 20' (diagonally, that is, now it’s 27'). According to my measurements, 17' horizontally is enough so that you can see everything in the tables. In some cases, depending on the specific contents, even 13' horizontally will enable the computer to display everything correctly.

Of course, not everybody has a 20' screen, if you have a laptop, then most likely you don’t have even 17', perhaps only 15'. Computer owners should understand that the less they invest in their computers, the more likely it is that they will have problems viewing everything in the net the way things have been intended to be viewed. If you try to access pages, such as the one that I have designed, with an iPhone then you should understand that your problems will be even greater. That, however, is no excuse for denying others the possibility of designing more refined web pages and yet others of reading them.

There are also factors intrinsic to Wikipedia that are partly responsible for your problems: The infoboxes and maps are based on templates that dictate that they “float right”. That is, they appear on the right hand side, as there is space for them. The “float right” can be taken out of the source code of the maps, but they still float right. If they did not, they would appear in the order the data is written, and this problem would not arise. I do not know how to change these specifications, and I’m not even sure it would be desirable to do so from the point of view of the wider Wikipedia community. You might make your case with people who have the authority to change these things.

There is a solution to this problem that I have thought to suggest to the Wikipedia community:

Wikipedia also has the “English Football Seasons” article, such as 2005–06 in English football. Just looking at that season, I noticed that the Football Conference tables are not given there. (But looking at the league tables, you get an idea of what the tables have been prior to my involvement, and these happen to be the most “advanced” examples — To my the colours for the top teams are extremely ugly, and please note, no key is given for the use of the colours.)

What we could do it to present more concise tables in these articles, and add a note in the main articles, next to each league table, to the effect that “if you have problems with the tables presented here, you can go to the 2005–06 in English football article where you will find concise league tables.”

I would advise you, instead of reverting back to “ancient” versions of these articles, to restore the versions you had rejected, and find the solution to your problems in creating new data, as the need arises, in other articles, along the ideas presented above. This would be a service to everyone, and when doing so, you would not flush down the toilet other contributors’ work, which they might have accumulated over months if not years.

Since you appear to be a person that contributes to Wikipedia a lot, and surely mostly positive and welcome things, I hope you do understand the concerns and thoughts expressed in this message.

Sincerely, in the interests of English football (and the fatherland of this game),

1933–34 Football League & 1933-34 in English football

Dear Number 57,

Thank you for responding so quickly to my message!

And thank you for explaining to me the resulution issue. I did as you suggested, changed my screen resolution to 1280 x 720, and I could at least get an idea of what you meant. But I still have the wide screen, and I don’t know how much this affects what I see when I do a single change like that. But looking at the 1933–34 Football League, I could not see a complete division from top to bottom, even with my big screen. Is this the case with your screen also?

I also noticed that the results grid is wider than the tables are. Does this not pose problems also with your resolution?

But doing away with the infoboxes and maps? This how things are done in the current Premier League season articles. Only there is some much text that the infoboxes do not interfere with the tables; and the map is a the bottom, after the “Stadia” heading.

Would it help if there was a separate section for the maps, at the bottom, as you suggested? I mean, would the section break keep the map “down”, so to speak, so that it would not interfere with the tables?

And what about my suggestion that the 1933-34 in English football and similar articles contain concise table for those who have trouble with the more detailed tables. As far as I can see, this would solve the problem entirely. As things are now, those xxxx–xx in English football articles are not used for much of anything, and thus they are pretty much useless (apart from the Home Championship, of which there are, too, separate articles). Is it too much trouble to have e.g. two windows open on your (I don’t mean you in person, in this case) and go back and forth between them if one poses difficulties on your particular screen or chosen resolution?

I did try something about the infoboxes, but they seem to float across whatever section boundaries there seem to be in their way. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable could do something about the infobox template? I certainly don’t have the knowhow to do anything about it.

But anyway, I appreciate very much the fact that you wrote to me in a very constructive tone and that you genuinely seem be wanting seek a way out of these problems that would satisfy everyone who reads these football season articles.

Aside from our previous correspondence, which focused on the tables, could you let me know what you think of the colours I have used? They are mostly pastel, which is also what you find in the results grid (with which I had nothing to do). If you look at 1933–34 Football League before my involvement, this document had no colours whatsoever. To me adding a few colours made things easier to take in at a glance.

Categorisation

Sorry about that Number57, wasn't aware that they kept the categories. Most of the clubs I've seen only have the league they're currently in so I assumed that was the norm. Looks like there's a lot of category adding to be done over the whole of wikipedia's football articles. Will try and restore as many as I can. Most of them are ex-NPL clubs. Spent most of the time adding smaller clubs to their current league categories, not removing them. Delusion23 (talk) 12:50, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Re: FRY elections

If you revert me one more time on this topic, that we already discussed at length (which I linked and where it's apparent that you had no further qualms about using the proper name), I will consider it an intentionally disruptive behavior, because you've forced me to waste a lot more time than necessary on this. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 20:24, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

On March 18 at Template_talk:Yugoslavian_elections#Name you never disputed my final intent to use the canonical name. It needs to be used because otherwise the separation of templates looks inconsistent - if those were simply "Yugoslavian" elections 1992-2003, why aren't they in the "Elections in Yugoslavia" template? Because they're not Yugoslavian using the common meaning of the word, they're FRY-only and that needs to be stated. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:16, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Oh, and I just noticed:

  • Federal Republic of Yugoslavia parliamentary election, 1996‎; 20:57 . . (+8) . . Number 57 (talk | contribs | block) (Null edit to prevent move back to wrong title)

etc. That is in fact disruptive and I'm giving you a warning - stop behaving like this or I will use my admin rights to prevent you from editing those articles. If you have further questions - use the RFC procedure or maybe Wikipedia:Templates for discussion, stop enforcing your opinion and persistently reverting. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:20, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I was not "threatening" you, I'm literally obliged to announce any such actions up front per {{uw-balkans}} etc. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:35, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
FRY *is* the standard name of the state Serbia and Montenegro comprised 1992-2003. It is *not* simply "Yugoslavia". Hence the adjective "Yugoslavian" or "Yugoslav", when applied to FRY, is necessarily ambiguous. The article titles need to be sufficiently precise; saying a 1992 election in Serbia and Montenegro is simply a "Yugoslav" election is quite confusing given the parallel process of breakup of Yugoslavia. (If you wish to claim otherwise, this is against the common practice at Yugoslavia and basically everywhere else, and is a clear sign of WP:DISRUPTIVE.) --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:32, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

The R.E.

According to Keith Warsop's book "The Early FA Cup Finals and the Southern Amateurs" "[R.E.F.C.] entered the first FA Amateur Cup competition in 1893–94 but lost in the second qualifying round. That was the final fling for the "gentlemen officers" team. From that point different battalion teams were formed, mainly from "other ranks" and it was the Depot Battalion Royal Engineers who won the Amateur Cup in 1907–08. The Service Battalion and the Training Battalion also took part in the Amateur Cup. These teams also competed in the Army Cup, the Kent Amateur Cup and the Kent League". Does that help at all......? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 18:24, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Template:Edmonton elections

Hi, Number 57. The reason the flatlist template is a superior solution for navigation is because inserting the dots between items on the template forces a screen reading device for the vision impaired to say the word "dot" every time a dot is encountered. Flatlist will announce that the reader is being presented with a list and then the list will be read aloud by the screen reading device. So it's an accessibility issue. I am not going to edit war with you over this template, but I urge you to consider re-instituting this improvement. Regards, --Dianna (talk) 18:12, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Estonian football players

I've undone a number of your edits in the infoboxes of Estonian football players, where you changed the place of birth into Estonian SSR and the Soviet Union. It is quite a long agreement to keep only Estonia in the infobox for people born in Estonia during that period for a number of reasons.

  • Estonia was under Soviet occupation, which was not recognized by most Western nations de jure. According to international law, Estonia is in fact the same state it was in 1918-1940 and never ceased to exist, but was only occupied during 1940-1991.
  • Most people in question have little to do with the Soviet Union since they became famous in independent Estonia and only lived their childhood in the Soviet Union.
  • It is perfectly clear to absolutely everyone where a person was born if they see "Estonia" in the infobox. If the ruling state was the same state that existed in Magadan and Baku, then the place of birth becomes more vague. Estonia is not only an independent country, it is a distinct geographic region with clear borders separating it from its neighbors.

For the future, please stop changing the infoboxes in such way without any discussion - you just waste a lot of our time.

Thank you

H2ppyme (talk) 19:22, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Noone is trying to rewrite history here, we all know who were here during that period. But still, it is historically totally irrelevant, what state controlled Estonia since the region or the country was still Estonia. And it is in fact undeniable that Estonia still existed in 1940-1991, see State continuity of the Baltic states - it is a sui generis of international law, but the situation is widely accepted as described. You are in a long time the first to raise this topic and I sincerely hoped I wouldn't have to go into this again... H2ppyme (talk) 19:36, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
So out of curiosity, if a person was born in Tallinn in 1942, was he then born in Ostland, although noone knows where it is? What you are trying to say that a person born in Paris in 1943 was not born in France and a person in Warsaw in 1940 was not born in Poland. Do note that it says "place of birth" not the de facto "country of birth".H2ppyme (talk) 19:47, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
In fact, I don't see absolutely no difference between an illegal occupation during war or peace time. And what exactly is making us revisionists? How much do you even know about the occupation of the Baltics, about its illegality and Western non-recognition policy? H2ppyme (talk) 19:56, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
It doesn't make the discussion pointless, I merely wanted to know if you at least think you know what you are talking about - that is, read the articles (or know about the subjects before) about the occupation, non-recognition and state continuity. And the situation with Israeli people is definitely different. A region called Israel wasn't so clearly defined as was Estonia during that period. Basically with Estonia, everyone would understand its borders from 1200 up until today and it wouldn't cause much discussion. However, we don't write Estonia in infoboxes for people born in for example Swedish Estonia or Governorate of Estonia or Governorate of Livonia, but we do after the creation of the Estonian state, that under international law has never ceased to exist. aligning navbox columns

Surely there's a better method to align those columns other than a bunch of copy&paste? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 13:13, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand why you created all the child navboxes? Why have six navboxes when we only need three? Number 57 13:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Because each is suitable to its series of articles - the Croatian series can include just the Croatian template and still get A-H data, and also the same data also applies to the A-H series. Deduplicating this information is useful because any changes don't have to be repeated in N places. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 16:56, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't think the information existing in two places is too much to deal with, and we manage perfectly well with the European elections, which are duplicated on each country's template and the main EU elections one. Number 57 16:58, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, not right now if you're here to volunteer the effort to maintain the duplicates, but there's still no point in adding workload when we can have it optimized to require the least amount of effort, so time spent duplicating edits can be better spent elsewhere. Anyway, if you're not interested, I'll ask on Template talk:Navbox. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 17:03, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm happy to volunteer - I watch all the election templates on Wikipedia to make sure they are properly formatted etc. Number 57 17:04, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Per Template talk:Navbox#aligning navbox columns with children, I implemented both features again, please check that it's aligned on your screen too. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:45, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
It is now aliged, but I still can't see the point of having the child navboxes - they're just going to get lost. Having the links in two places is much less of a problem than having six templates rather than three. Number 57 10:53, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't quite see the loss potential :) I tagged them all with the same wikiproject templates so they'll be monitored. Now that I think about it, there's probably another one... {{WikiProject Elections and Referendums}}. There we go, I'll use that tag, too. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 13:04, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

By the way, how would you translate Hrvatska stranska? They appear in Austrian legislative election, 1923 but I can't offer an English version. Number 57 17:33, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

That should be "Hrvatska stranka" which would mean "Croatian Party". If it's 1923, then I'd assume it's some sort of a Burgenland Croats party? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:45, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Medici Archive Project

Hi,

I was trying to set up an English language article on The Medici Archive Project before. An article already exists in Italian. You cancelled the article and I wanted to know what made this article seem dubious to you. I will expand it and insert references of course, but what do I need to do to start over again?

My entry read: "The Medici Archive Project is a research institute based in the Archivio di Stato in Florence, Italy since 1995. Researchers at the Medici Archive Project study documents within the Medici Granducal Archival Collection (Mediceo del Principato), which comprises over four-million letters distributed in 6,429 volumes, spanning the years 1537 to 1743 from the time of Cosimo I de' Medici to Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, sister of Gian Gastone. Teams of post-doctoral researchers enter original language extracts accompanied by English synopses from documents into a freely searchable database Documentary Sources for the Arts and Humanities, 1537 to 1743which is available free of charge to the public. The Documentary Sources database comprises over 21,000 letters, 13,000 new biographical entries, and 80,000 geographical and topographical tags. MAP is recognized as a non-profit foundation 501(c) (3) in the United States and as a non-profit cultural organization in Italy."

Thank you for your contributions! благодаря!

Kndimov (talk) 01:18, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Oh wait you did!

благодаря!

Kndimov (talk) 01:20, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

PS I'll see if I can translate some of them.

Bulgarian Parliamentary elections.

I noticed that before you enriched the articles (post 1990), the bulgarian articles had more information. So you can just check other languages for more info. The problem is that not all of them list sources.

Also both referendum articles are now translated to Bulgarian. I will see if I can translate them into french, but that's the extent of my languages!

Довиждане!

Cheshunt Football Club

Can anyone explain why the wiki page for Cheshunt Football Club is constantly dumbed down, abbreviated and stopped from being updated by 'number 57'? The current page on the clubs history is a much smaller and less detailed version of a previous page thanks to the wiki skills of 'number 57' ...who benfits from such efforts? Why would a wikipedia reader want to read LESS about a subject, skipping years of previously covered history, because 'number 57' has judged it so? For example, Cheshunt's run to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase in 1981-82 was not thought worth keeping on 'number 57's version and deleted, even though it is a national competition and can be cross referenced on the internet (an important issue with wikipedia) and is to this day the clubs best-ever performance on a national stage yet the reasons for Cheshunt's relegation in 1986-87 (player walk-outs and budget cuts) are opinions and it could be easily argued that the clubs relegation was for different reasons. Wikipedia is supposed to sway towards facts rather than opinion yet 'number 57' seems to see things differently? Another example is the deletion of the history of the original Cheshunt Football Club, which ran from 1880 to 1931, which is now condensed into the opening papragraph of the current clubs history. Why has this happened? The two clubs are two totally separate bodies - different grounds, colours, players and committees' - in fact the only thing they share is a common name. This club was listed as a defunct club, alongside many other defunct clubs in England, yet this separate knowledge has now been denied to the readers of wikipedia and it would now be understandable for someone to come away thinking the two clubs are basically the same thing and that the honours of the two clubs are one and the same a look at the Herts Senior Cup page shows two separate clubs but the hyperlinks now go to just one?) What makes this type of wholesale deleting and amalgamating frustrating is the inconsistancy shown as Hitchin Town and Hitchin continue to be (quite rightly) shown as two separate clubs. 'Number 57' has decided that Cheshunt Football Clubs history has not been worthy of updating since 2008, even though they have reached three county cup finals - in competitions mentioned previously on 'number 57's version of the clubs history so they are important enough to be mentioned - in the four seasons since? Is it any wonder that the clubs current details (club officals, players, honours) are hopelessly out of date when anyone trying to modify them is constantly thwarted by the efforts of 'number 57?' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.104.236 (talk) 21:47, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Number 57 clearly stated on the edit which merged Cheshunt F.C. (1880–1931) into Cheshunt F.C. that the reason was because FCHD, i.e. the Football Club History Database, treats both clubs as one. Coyets (talk) 13:30, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Sports Direct Arena

I think you will find that the Sports Direct Area is not a sponsored name, it is the official name of the stadium formally known as St James' Park. SJP no longer exists vamooshid, consigned to the history books, gone and soon to be forgotten. The sportsdirect.com@st james' park may have been temporary, but this time the change is permenant.

Wikipedia is supposed to be a encylopedia thus articles should contain the correct information. Here are some links you may wish to check before vandalising the edits Newcastle's Official Webpage, Stadium Name is the Sport Direct Arena http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Club/SportsDirectArena/Home

follow the link currently on the article and look what happens........does not exist..... http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Club/History/StJamesPark

also check out the Official Site of the Premier League http://www.premierleague.com/page/newcastle-united their club info page for Newcastle list the name and address as Newcastle United Football Club Sports Direct Arena, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE1 4ST

Now do you think that both the official websites of the actual club and the premier league are wrong? If so you may wish to let them know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.97.131.150 (talk) 11:53, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Reverting

Hello. Sorry for the template, but I did take a quick look into the context and it did seem a lot more nuanced than straight vandalism (I haven't been following the story, but the source does suggest that the original name "has been dropped"), so 3RR should be respected. There was nothing recent on the article talk page about the issue, and none of your edit summaries explained why you were reverting the changes - I can understand why an IP editor might get the unhelpful impression that reverting was a valid method of dispute resolution. There's clearly a useful compromise to be struck, but reverting isn't going to get the article there. --McGeddon (talk) 12:56, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Some cooperation on the topic of elections

Nice to find someone here working on the topic of election in a systematic way. In the german WP, I am currently working on completing election-by-year-templates. Hope you are interested in some cooperation on this topic. Do you (roughly) know with of those templates are complete at the moment (or from which you believe that they are complete). For example, I found [15] (from about p. 96, note the the given date is the date of the opening of parliament) for the highly incomplete uruguayan one. Which books of Mr. Nohlen do you have? I have scanned some chapters of Nohlen "early" german books on election, I can send them to you if you want.--Antemister (talk) 22:32, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, some co-operation would be good. Regarding completeness of the templates, I would guess the following:
  • Africa: All post-independence elections in African countries, with the possible exceptions of:
    • Egypt - when I looked at the old Nohlen book, it did not have some of the dates that another editor had added to the template - 1931 and 1938. I have removed them in the meantime, but the book may have missed them
    • Ethiopia - back to 1957
    • Morocco - only as far back as 1963
    • South Africa, which only goes back to 1910 and has none for any of the Boer republics, although I have no idea if there were any
  • Asia: All post-independence elections in former colonies. Ones I am not sure about would be Afghanistan, China (pre-1949), Iran, Japan, Mongolia and Nepal. I have no idea whether there were ever any elections in the Korean kingdom prior to its occupation by Japan.
  • Oceania: The only ones I am unsure about for post-independence elections are Tonga (which does go back to 1875) and Samoa, which has a large gap between 1873 and 1948.
  • Europe - I'm currently working on this using the Nohlen book (it's massive - 2,000+ pages) and am extending back the years for several countries. It goes back much further than the other books (1851 for Portugal, 1848 for Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland, 1831 for France and 1814 for Norway(!)). Of the ones I've done so far (I'm up to Czechoslovakia), the following may be incomplete:
    • Albania - may be missing some elections between WWI and WWII
    • Andorra - missing all between 1933 and 1981
    • Austria-Hungary - aside from the 1907 and 1911 elections, this is not in the book
    • Belgium - the book mentions some early elections in the text (1830, 1847, 1848) but only details dates after 1894
    • Bosnia - possibly missing some during it's nominally independent phase in the early 1900s
    • Cyprus - I cannot work out whether there was a presidential election in 1978 (one was due and there was only one candidate, but I cannot find any confirmation that it would have happened). I did also find mention of an "election" in 1977, but this may have been by the Parliament.
  • North America - I reckon post-independence elections are complete for Canada, the US and any British island colonies in the Caribbean. Not sure about Cuba, Dominican Rep, Haiti or Puerto Rico. Central American countries are probably missing loads as the Nohlen book mostly only goes back to the early 1900s.
  • Central America - I've only done a couple of countries here (Venezuela and Paraguay) but I think most are also missing pre-1900 elections and some also early 1900s (Nohlen only went back to 1916 for Uruguay for instance). Starting some Uruguay articles was next on my to-do list until I got the Europe book (plus they are bloody awkward because of a very odd electoral system and are going to take ages to write!!).
As for which Nohlen books I own, I have the America ones (two volumes) which I bought myself, and the Europe one, which Wikimedia UK bought for me via their Microgrant scheme (one day I will have to give it back to them, but I have it for as long as I want it). I borrowed the Africa and Asian ones from the British Library, and was only able to keep them for three weeks, but I did get all the information out of them that I needed. I've also started using the Google Books version of the old Nohlen book (today I completed the Egyptian parliamentary elections set).
The scans would be incredibly useful if you could send them to me and I would be eternally grateful! I have actually started using the Google Books version to write some articles (I completed the Egyptian lower house set earlier today), but it is a bit awkward because the results pages are often the wrong way up, and many pages are missing (I cannot see several pages of the Algerian results which I am planning to do next). If it's not too much trouble, send me an e-mail via the e-mail function and I will reply (rather than reveal my e-mail address online). I would only need the pages with the results on them. Likewise, if you need anything from the books I have, please let me know. If it helps, tomorrow evening I can go through the Nohlen books for Latin American countries and add all the dates that the books have. Number 57 23:23, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Update: I've gone through the South America book and added all the elections in the book that were missing from the template. However, many early 20th century elections and most beforehand are missing. Number 57 18:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Just a short answer, more details at the weekend. To confrim whether election were held or not not, the The Statesman's Yearbook may be helpful, british library should have access to the archive. You should create a table of the templates on a user page odr at the elections project, so that possible mistakes or gaps can be discussed more centralized.--Antemister (talk) 22:44, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, I might make a start on that at the weekend. Sadly the Elections and Referendums Wikiproject is not very active... Number 57 16:32, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

OK, some more detailed information

  • Egypt: According to Nohlen's first book, there were indirect election for an legislative council from 1883, but Nohlens book does provide detailed data. Perhaps one should look into Nohlens source's
  • Ethiopia: According the 1931 constitution, there were no election until 1957.
  • Morocco did not have a parliament before 1963 [16]
  • South Africa: Difficult... Nohlen writes about election in the Boer republics und the Cape Colony, but without any precise data
  • Afghanistan, China, Iran, Japan should be complete, as there are no gaps or inconstant dates
  • Nepal: Difficult...
  • Korea: As Korea is a highly developed country, consulting the authors of the korean WP may be helpful
  • Oceania: Did not care about those minor countries yet...
  • Europe: The old Nohlen book may countain this data - do you have it?
  • Latin america: Did not care about that continent yet

I have scanned the chapters on the Soviet Union, Yogoslawia, Czechoslovakia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Spain and Turkey, and on paper at the moment, Portugal, Rhodesia and Zaire from the old books. The pdf files are large, uploading them will take some time.--Antemister (talk) 21:59, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

I have started work on a comprehensive list at User:Number 57/Elections and referendums. Please feel free to make any changes as required! Number 57 12:01, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
Some first data, more will follow the next week:
*Albania - have some Pages of Nohlen books, but it does not provide tables, you will have to reconstruct the data from the text
*Andorra - direct election from 1933 on, every two years 1/2 of the deputies for a four year term
*Belgium - have a complete table
*Cyprus - really a problem... have some pages from "Geschichte der Republik Zypern" by Pavlos Tzermias (1998), but this book leaves the election issue unanswered: Makarios died in 1977, sixth month for the election in 1978, an election should be held 45 days after his death for the rest of his term. The book does not write if the were election in 1977 or 1978, because there was only one candidate... read the text by yourself.

The scanned pages will follow tomorrow. Another interresting book is "Das parlamentarische Wahlrecht" published 1901, the first comparative book on electoral system. As it is the PD for decaded, it can befound at archive.org.--Antemister (talk) 22:04, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Richard Buxton

I'm trying to find out about Richard Buxton. Apparently no. 57 deleted the article on this person because there was no assertion of importance/significance. Sir Richard Joseph Buxton is a former Lord Justice of Appeal and a member of the Privy Council. I don't understand why he is not significant enough for a Wikipedia article. It would be useful if the information in the deleted article could be reinstated. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.185.143.47 (talk) 14:21, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

African Youth Championship

Hi, User:Faycal.09 has again renamed this page as African U-20 Championship. When he moved it normally first time I moved it back, but in this edit he appears to have moved it again via a redirect, meaning the page history appears to be lost. I tried to move it back, but it needs admin help. I also added a link showing that CAF refer to the t'ment as AYC. Hopefully you can assist on this. Regards. Thanks for dealing with this swiftly. Eldumpo (talk) 15:53, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

African U-20 Championship

Hi, On first time, I had create African U-20 Championship by using the move button at the top of the page, however it's the Eldumpo who moved by making "cut and paste moves". On 26 November 2011 I used the WP:RM for request and i had put a reason Talk:African Youth Championship however it was removed without reasons. Why u're so hard with me, u don't like what i contribute in the english wikipedia? Damage u see only what Eldumpo said. Greetings. --Faycal.09 (talk) 16:57, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I used now the WP:RM for request. Greetings. --Faycal.09 (talk) 17:21, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Generaly I use french and arabic wikipedia, I don't speak very good english so some pages like WP:RM are very complicate for me. I used request however u explain that I only put a note on the talk page, so I don't know how to use a request.
2nd, Eldumpo moved the page by using the move tab ok he don't make mistakes, however his mistake is because the name of the competition changed and it's called since the 2011 edition African U-20 Championship (example of competitions name changed : AFC U-19 Championship, UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship...etc).
3rd, Maybe I'm the one who use "cut & past move" sorry for that, it is not legal in wikipedia however when I used this move, I know that I'm right. On past u contact me because Wydad AC Casablanca & Raja CA Casablanca articles. However u had agree that i was right, and finaly Raja CA Casablanca was changed but Wydad Casablanca not yet.
Finaly, maybe i make mistake, I try always to not do that, maybe I don't speak good english however I have knowledge. I always contribute to ameliorate the wikipedia not to destroy it. Sorry for all these incidents. --Faycal.09 (talk) 19:49, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you much for helping me. Greetings. --Faycal.09 (talk) 21:32, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

African Youth Championship editions after 2011

Hi, user Eldumpo moved 2011 African U-20 Championship & 2013 African U-20 Championship. I prefer to prevent you, I hope that u see that please. Regards. --Faycal.09 (talk) 23:44, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Windchill (software)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Windchill_(software)&action=edit&redlink=1 Hello. I noticed that you marked this article (or someone did) for PROD, and it was removed on 23 Nov 2011. You cite "remove the bullet points and there's nothing left." It was written in a way to not sound as a product placement or advertisment ("it's the best!") - but rather as a factual description of *what* the software *is*. Is there a suggested way to write an article about a piece of software that [a] does not sound as an advertisement or commercial, yet [b] still elucidates the reader as to what the software does? Also, can I please request that you re-instate the page so as to give an opportunity to make sufficient edits? Thank you. Abelniak (talk) 03:04, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Reply

Hi. Yes, I primarily edit PTC-related pages, and yes, I'm a current employee. Mea culpa (in honesty, not snark) for not being aware of the editorial policy. I will [a] strive to edit other pages, and pages that are not tied to my company to round out my Wikipedia editing history; and [b] seek members of our community to create and/or edit the pages, so as to not violate the standards.

With this, could you re-instate the page, still tag it/mark it, and I will promise you an expedited call-to-the-masses to our customers to edit? Abelniak (talk) 11:03, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Scrum

Number 57, why did you delete the page "Mike Beedle"? I am a co-author of the Agile Manifesto at http://www.agilemanifesto.org and the author of the book "Agile Software Development with Scrum" with Ken Schwaber, all "verifiable information". There are several references to me and my name at WikiPedia, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_(development) so, I was just trying to provide some information about me since I am already mentioned in Wikipedia.

I will continue to edit the history of Agile Development, Scrum and other things, but please advise me, how can I provide part of the history that includes me without self-refernce? Would you be so kind to help us document the TRUE history of Scrum and Agile Development?

By the way, where is the content that you deleted? I didn't make a backup, so I hope you did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beedlem8 (talkcontribs) 06:23, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

On 27 November 2011 you added the election results to the article Finnish presidential election, 1982 citing Nohlen, D & Stöver, P (2010). The results of the Electoral college vote are not correct. Thanks for the note. You did quite a few articles on the Politics of Romania. As you can see on the list of members, the interest in topics is quite diverse. Some people are interested in numismatics, others in history, I am personally more interested in archaeology, historical monuments and photography. The point is, we need specialists on any field related to Romania. We have a quite a few users actively contributing to the politics topic. I could minimally connect you with them, but maybe if there is enough critical mass (and I think there is), it might make sense to create a task force for Romanian politics. Either way, thanks for your contributions! Best --Codrin.B (talk) 16:03, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

The "St. James' Park" signs around the ground were removed yesterday - it was covered fully by BBC Television News and is referenced here [18]. Leaky Caldron 10:55, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

This is an encyclopaedia, not a platform for your opinion. Unless you provide a current source for the continued use of St James' Park, when it is all over the news here in the North East that the name has been changed and removed from the ground, I will continue to remove it and will refer your behaviour to the appropriate notice board. Leaky Caldron 11:00, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I really could not care less about what a little old group of editors say or think. I have provided clear, current, unequivocal, reliable sourced proof that that ground is no longer called SJP. That's called policy. Leaky Caldron 11:08, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
No misunderstanding on my part. I have opened the discussion on the article talk page, which is the correct place to discuss the specific article - not some obscure little workshop page. Leaky Caldron 11:11, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Politics templates

I appreciate the work you do creating articles on elections, but must you include the "politics of..." template in every such article you create or modify? That template invariably refers to current politics, and it only links the past handful of elections. Moreover, election articles all have the "___ian elections" template, as they should, so I really don't see the point, other than decoration.

Let's take an example, the Romanian general election, 1919. Every candidate who ran in that election is dead, and most likely every voter who voted is also dead. Of the many parties that ran, just one still exists—and its platform has changed quite a bit in the intervening 92 years. The issues decided at that election have little relevance today, as the country's political system and much else have changed dramatically. So why include Template:Politics and Government of Romania, when that template refers to contemporary issues, and only links elections from the past 8 years? - Biruitorul Talk 23:25, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Any idea where the party names are transcluded from in the electoral infoboxes? Yemeni presidential election, 2012 and others dont work.(Lihaas (talk) 10:32, 25 February 2012 (UTC)).

I suggest you take a close look at this...

WP:KETTLE. You attitude has been patronising, hostile and uncooperative. If you think I'm just going to walk away in the face of blatant misinterpretation of policy and be persuaded by false claims of consensus as well as putting up with your outrageous denial of statements you have made, you are mistaken. I would be very happy to have a community review at WP:WQA or any or venue of your choice. You have attempted to force me away from this dispute since your original condescending comments on my talk page giving me a "heads up", and every opportunity since with your muddled talk of consensus and convention and perverse argument about sponsored only names. Stop battering away at me personally and deal with the issue or take my behaviour (and yours) to a noticeboard. Leaky Caldron 18:59, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, see here, then. Kosovo sovereignty is disputed, and that is bigger reason for removing the flag, and we deleted per that. --WhiteWriterspeaks 22:21, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, i get it... Anyway, if you ask me, that is misleading, in all examples presented, as those current states, recognized or not, doesn't matter, didn't arranged nor organised all those elections presented in templates. But those where presented on those territories, so we should line those templates to territories of present states, and not to current territory holders. MOSFLAG is quite true in that case... I will raise a question once about that. All best. --WhiteWriterspeaks 22:40, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Election results

Sorry for not being able to answer before, but I've had little time these last days and I can only make edits when I'm able to, which as of lately is not very frequently. Ok, so about reverting your edits... I of course have a reasonable explanation for that.

Firstly, the PSC-PSOE issue. Before reverting anything, I noticed you changed the PSOE end result down from 202 to 177. That is not accurate. Even if you want to considerate both PSOE and PSC as separate entities (in theory they're both different parties), in practice they concur jointly to the elections. That said, if you post them separately, you would have to do so in the rest of election articles, and that could result in some inconsistencies and weird results. For example, in 2008, without the 25 seats won by the PSC, total PSOE seats would account to just 144: 10 less than the main opposition party. Moreover, they are part of the same parliamentary group in the Congress. Unless the PSC breaks ties with the PSOE, they will still concur together to the elections, so they must be considered as one and the same.

Secondly, about sources. Well, firstly, I just tried to enter that link and the info doesn't show up. I tried to search info on that page too long ago, though, but I didn't find any. So, instead, I'm relying on results made available by the Interior Ministry itself, to which you can access through the link I gave in the revert.

Thirdly, about why I made the reverting. Well, it was done for several reasons:

- First: the vote percentages you gave were innacurate. Thus, in the 1979 election, you gave the UCD the 35.1% of the vote share, when in fact it was the 34.84%. Please note than in Spanish elections blank votes ALSO count as valid votes. Thus the vote percentage for each candidature is the one obtained by dividing the votes obtained by a party between the total valid votes, not the votes to candidature (which is a different thing).
- Second (a minor one): you removed the turnout data from the infobox. I'm not sure why, but well, I think that if the infobox has such an option available, we should use it. It is also easier for anyone who sees the article to find the turnout data in the infobox rather than by having it just in an election box at the bottom of the page.
- Third (also a minor one): you removed the boldness of the winner's data. This issue should be discussed further, but I believe that by having the data of the winner in bold it gives a better perspective of who won not only the present election, but also the previous one.

And finally, about the "crap" versions. Well, it will seem strange that I reverted the edits you made to such versions, but that has a meaning. Actually, in the "crappy" versions (so to understand), the infobox is actually fully accurate. I'm in the process of updating all of the Spanish election articles. Just take a look at the election articles from 2011 to 1996. That's the format I want to apply to all the election articles. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because of lack of time, but I intend to do it nonetheless (I've already started in 1993, but I've to work on all the maps and the such, and that takes time). Thus, because it actually took less time for me to just revert to the previous version instead of having to go through all the trouble of re-updating the infobox, I did it so.

I'm sorry if it caused some trouble to you, though. I know I may have been a but harsh myself, but I found little sense in keeping those new tables of you (with not so accurate data, mostly regarding the 1979 election) when they will be changed in the near future. Impru20 (talk) 15:02, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: The Senate results you give are also not quite accurate. While it is true that there is a regional allocation of seats, that regional allocation has nothing to do with the general election; rather depending on the regional administrations, which may vary throughout the legislature (regional and local elections, party splits,...). Impru20 (talk) 15:25, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
Fantastic. My complain about the sources was that of consistency: I trust more on those published on the MIR page since those are supposed to be "official", and thus accurate (it also includes the CERA vote, the total electorate and a large amount of additional information other sources don't include). Also, if one article uses one source, the remaining ones should stick to the same source.
About the table issue, I've just fixed it. The table format was so complex because some guy decided to change my previous format for that one, but I ended up liking it, so I ended up adopting it too. I agree that it may be too complex, though, so I've removed the Spanish traduction for each party name. Impru20 (talk) 18:18, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

2012 Ecuadorian protests

Ive elicited your opinion before (I bel\ieve on the Irish election) which was not in agreement with mine yet very valid and I was (agreeably) against consensus. Would like to hear your opinion on another matter. There is an issue at 2012 Ecuadorian protests, where ive spelt out (twiec) the issues on the talk page even admitted wrong and accomodated and wanted/called for discussion only to be attacked by threats to close the page without discussion of issues and a blanket revert against BRD norms. Could you give a moment to oversight that discussion and give your view.Lihaas (talk) 18:24, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Can you have a look at that page. Im sick and tired of going around in circles with an editor who wants his version restored when he has done absolutely nothing to back it up but assert his opinion and that the RS is wrong, inspite of the 3O/4O which called for him to provide a source if he disagrees with RS instead of putting his claim of being right alone per WP:WRONGVERSION
I think ive tried my level best to reason with him and again and again ask him for a source and told him per BOLD and BRD he should get consensus to restore but he continues to insist his view is the only one when everyone is against it and accomodating is being tried. Ive warned him too...but id prefer for an admin to take a look at it. Also if ive not tried enough then please advice me.Lihaas (talk) 08:30, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Israeli Declaration of Independence: Introductory Paragraph

I have described the Declaration of the Establishment of Israel in the terms of the operative words of the Declaration itself. I simply copied and pasted (where capitals are used) from the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affair (http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Peace+Process/Guide+to+the+Peace+Process/Declaration+of+Establishment+of+State+of+Israel.htm). I omitted the earlier portions of the paragraph because they could rather be more properly described in English as recitals (http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/q112.htm). Indeed everything leading to that paragraoh consists of various recitals. In normal circumstances, there is no need to refer to the recitals to interpret the operative words of a legal document.

The document on its face operates to bring into existence the state of Irael; the use of the word announcement and the use of the past perfect tense (had been established) suggests that Ben-Gurion was telling everyone of an event that had already happened, clearly not correct.

The Declaration puts the location of the new state is simply IN ERETZ-ISRAEL. If it were intended that its location were to be limited to the area of the Mandate set aside for the Jewish state, it would have been quite easy to use something like the followin phrase:-

in the area set aside for the Jewish state in the Plan of Partition set out at the end of Resolution 181 (II). (Future government of Palestine) of the General Assembly of the United Nations of 29 November 1947.

The introductory paragraph to the article uses two separate tests for the area of the new state:-

1 parts of what was known as the British Mandate of Palestine (What parts?)

and

2 on land where, in antiquity, the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah had once been.(Can anyone now tell exactly where those boundaries once were?)

I might add that nowhere in the Declaration are either of the words Israel or Judah mentioned.

The easiest way to describe the Declaration is to use its own operative words:- DECLARE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE IN ERETZ-ISRAEL, TO BE KNOWN AS THE STATE OF ISRAEL.----- with or without capitals.Trahelliven (talk) 07:24, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Despite having been reverted twice, the only objection expressed to to my amendment to the introductory paragraph was that part was in capitals (Also you inserted a load of text into the introduction in capital letters - - Number 57). I simply copied and pasted from the Israeli Ministry of foreigh Affairs version. Noon reverted but, in respect of the introductory paragraph, gave no reason. I will accoedingly put back the intruductory paragraph without the capitals.Trahelliven (talk) 10:09, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Dont understand this. The election is obviously singular as in all election articles and the title + the 33rd bit was consistency with the last election page(Lihaas (talk) 22:21, 4 May 2012 (UTC)).

Template:Greek legislative election, 2012

Kindly see the Greek legislative election, 2012 in regards to [19]. It messes up the entire references process by listing everything from the article in the template itself because you added the references tag to the template. There are then virtually no sources in the references section again when the template is transculuded. After all the page is the main one read by most not the template. Seems fine here...at any rate, the coalition info can go into the parties section if need be when sourced.

Sorry, someone else added that to the template after my original edit and I didn't spot it when I reinstated the format. The coalition doesn't need to be sourced AFAIK - it wasn't fact tagged before I put it into a footnote. Number 57 18:55, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

why are you deleting flag icons and runners up achievements? look at other non league profiles and these exist? see Bath City F.C., Lincoln City F.C. for two non league sites that feature these features.

- thank you for your reply - runners up is important as you still obtain an award for achieving this, you also will find that it is important enough for fchd to mention and highlight. Runners up is important as well as it shows periods were a club is challenging for honours - please leave these on.

I can see if all former players are english then, flag icons seems strange, but its also a good quick reference for people to see how much a wide area or international recognition a non league club gets. For example slough town had two Anguillan internationals and this can be recognised by presence of the flag.

Maldivian revolt referendum, 1959 and others

Hi,

I notice you created the very short article Maldivian revolt referendum, 1959, but have not added to it after the original edit. Are you planning on adding to it further?

With respect, I feel that this article would be better off redirected to United Suvadive Republic or deleted, as I really can't see it offering anything that would justify it being separate from United Suvadive Republic.

I also notice you have created a large number of other referendum articles. Perhaps it might be useful to seek some feedback on this before putting too much effort into the articles (and possibly having some of the less useful ones deleted later on).

Ubcule (talk) 23:59, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

If I can get more data at some point in the future (I am always looking for more sources - see the collaborative efforts of myself and another editor), then I will add to that article. All national elections and referendums are deserving of their own stand-alone articles, and I don't believe any would be deleted (certainly none ever have AFAIK). I think the vast majority of articles have already been created, but there are still one or two that weren't listed in the Nohlen books I use (which are the ones I've been doing over the past couple of days). Number 57 00:05, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
It's not really a question of "deserving". The problem as I see it is that the article (as it stands) only seems to exist as a placeholder and acknowledgement for the existence of the referendum. The article content itself is extremely short, and the information less useful than it would be in the context of the obvious parent article (United Suvadive Republic). Even if added to it will (IMHO) likely remain fairly short and the advantage of it being separate still questionable.
My personal feeling is that short stubs are okay where there's no clear "parent" article and the potential for something better. Similarly, if there is enough material covering the child subject in its own right that wouldn't fit the parent (and/or the parent article is getting too large in general), that's fine too. Neither of these apply here; even if there was the potential for this article to be expanded to one that is worthwhile in its own right *in the future*, we can spin it off then. In the meantime I feel it would be better merged into United Suvadive Republic. Ubcule (talk) 00:33, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

ETFC page "Protected"

Just seen that you have "protected" this page from so called "vandalism". As someone who frequently looks at these pages on various topics I am amazed that you have decided to even waste your time on this. Until recently this page was nothing more than an extension to The Football Club's website and I assumed that you had dealt with that as it is now not nearly as anal as it was, but you were happy to leave it like that for heaven knows how long before forcing the Jimbo person to put a more neutral article up. Now, this article appears to be headed back in the direction of being a propaganda article seemingly with your backing. Motivated by the long drawn out "edit war" that went on over this article, I have watched it for quite sometime, and I have to say that I agree with the assertion made that it does "gloat" over the fact that the original club were denied promotion due to Ground Grading requirements, not purely because they mention it but by the manner in which it is written. factual comments should never be removed as long as they are made in a manner which show events or comments in their true context and are not made in a manner that effectively mocks and belittles any individual, group or organization in any way, shape or form which the wording of this section is clearly intended to do. I would now, as someone with a casual interest in this topic, urge you to remove the edit block from this page and in your capacity with Wikipedia, consult with everyone involved in how to word this page in less confrontational language and thus end this long edit war. My very best regards, M. Owen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.15.218.110 (talk) 13:50, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Shas political position

Hi:

I respect your knowledge of Israeli politics and appreciate your insight. I have a question, however, as to why you reverted my edit which put Shas as a 'far-right' party. According to both this article and publications and sources I have read elsewhere, Shas is a conservative and Ultra-Orthodox party which is quite nationalistic in its rhetoric and anti-Arab in its sentiment. Don't those things make it far-right? I'm interested in what you have to say; your writing is always well-backed up and objective. Thank you.Van Gulik (talk) 20:24, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Runner-up in honours lists

Hey, thanks for updating the Rochester United F.C. page, but does finishing runners-up in a competition no longer count as an honour? By all accounts the vast majority of leagues and teams regularly include it in their honours lists for seasons... And while featured articles and good articles such as Manchester City F.C. and Birmingham City F.C. include runners-ups in their honours lists I'm going to re-add them to Rochester's until some kind of visible consensus is reached at WP:Football on the matter if anyone brings it up, because right now I don't see any and would like to see the arguments of both sides. Aside from that query, keep up the good work as one of the major contributors on footy articles! Cheers. Delsion23 (talk) 00:49, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Greek election

The table is still readable even if a row takes up two lines. I understand it that it may not look as orderly, but the primary purpose of the table is to communicate information, not look pretty. – Zntrip 22:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

I apologize if I'm missing something, but why is it necessary to be able to see the entire table at once? Regardless, perhaps if the abbreviation (KKE(M–L) / M–L KKE) and the word "party" is removed, the row will not be as long. The entry could say "Communist (Marxist–Leninist) / Marxist–Leninist Communist" instead of "Communist Party (Marxist–Leninist) / Marxist–Leninist Communist Party (KKE(M–L) / M–L KKE)". I'll change the template and you can take a look. – Zntrip 09:30, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Glad to hear that everything worked out. – Zntrip 01:28, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Attribution

Hi, if you merge articles, as in Liechtenstein referendums, 2011, you need to link to the original article at least in an edit summary to provide attribution, per WP:MERGE. When you redirect, please check the original article talk pages and fix the banners accordingly. Thanks and regards Hekerui (talk) 12:19, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

RE: Please, please stop

Actually was going to say the same to you too, but couldnt be nbothered,. You were a constructiove editor till you showed your will to impose your whim per IDONTLIKEIT and edit war (As an admin). Your consensus doesnt mean to change the leads and ignore BOLDTITLE (which you unilaterally choose to do). The discussion there mentioned "results" not the whole thing you want.

Per Mongolia, the mind doesnt boggle if you see the format REFLINKS is used for across pages.
For Lichetenstein, you may be right, but the "royal family" doesnt have veto. someone in the royal family has per the constitution veto (i presumed it was Hans Adam, i could be wrong)
The last line consitency pertains to recent elections a0rticles on elections. Nevertheless your BOLD edit was reverted and you need to discuss not war. Please see BOLDTITLE again.
eign an admin doesnt giv eyou right to threaten and impose your whim. To think i once thought you were th ebest admin, you seem to be the worst cause i havent seen others ywho edit war per explicit mention of IDONTLIKEIT
Anyhoo, play as you like with your weblog that you seem to think this is, i have no intention of spending my life arguing over such faecesLihaas (talk) 20:22, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
