Deletion of UWE Hockey Mens 1st XI

Hi,

I am writing to discuss the deletion of my page as I believe it is of valuable interest and purely fact based to those in the Bristol area. The team, for which I am now no longer a player will be updated regulary with results and is referenced with links to the official leagues for proof of the facts. The team plays in the top flight of university leagues in the country getting over 100 spectators for every match. The sport and the interest of the team in the local area keeps on growing and I would ask you to please reconsider allowing me to place my page on wikipedia.

Many thanks, Steve Steverhodes7

My Page

Could you please if possible give me some advice how I could display my page through other means if possible..like on another website for example as I have spent many hours creating the page for what I thought was a valuable contribution.

Thanks, Steve Steverhodes7 —Preceding undated comment was added at 12:21, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

My Page 3

Hi,

Oh Please just let me keep my page, it is of great interest to many people in Bristol and I have spent hours creating it (20+). If there is anything I can change to make it allowed I will do that. Asking you kindly,

Thanks, Steve --Steverhodes7 (talk) 12:40, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of two player's articles

OK, I read your page saying people complain about you deleting articles on here, but I actually don't understand why you have with mine. "Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person" - the two players' pages I created were because they were both players with a history at Cheltenham, just because I don't know as much about them as I'd like to, doesn't mean they're "not important". Aaron Ledgister is developing into a very promising player, and I had to browse about five websites AND a Football Manager game just to find out information, it took a good two hours.

And just to show why I'm annoyed, you've made tiny articles about non-existent teams, I don't quite see the "importance" in them.

Sorry if I'm coming across a bit harsh, speaking face-to-face is better than just writing! Dave (talk) 13:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Two of the articles are Burton Swifts F.C. and New Brighton Tower F.C.. Dave (talk) 13:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Fair do's. Could you send me what I did for the Aaron Ledgister and Will Puddy articles on this talk page, then I'll copy them over to my computer and save them for later, if they ever play a first-team game for a League club! Thanks, Dave (talk) 13:19, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Email's on, thanks. Dave (talk) 13:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Well look here, I find your manner and your foul and abusive language with swearing highly abusive and I shall be writing a letter of complaint to higher authority.I am well within my rights to write about something to do with me and something I love on my user page and it seems like you are abusing your power as it seems like you may have a very average to poor real life by bullying people on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steverhodes7 (talkcontribs) 20:23, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

A few issues

I was originally going to leave you a message regarding your deprodding of the Blofield article, but thought better of it as I didn't want to start another confrontation.

However, your comment on the AfD really suggests that you have a problem.

  1. You are suggesting that I am lying and not including AfDs which have not resulted in delete. This is not the case - I have included the 11 most recent AfDs on such clubs - all of them have resulted in the deletion of all clubs which fail to meet the criteria.
  2. Your statement that "given the number of your club AFDs that you've withdrawn recently" is also rubbish. I haven't withdrawn any AfDs on clubs - I withdrew a few clubs from a single AfD, but that is all.
  3. Sarcastic comment? Where? If you're referrung to my edit summary here, this is not sarcasm. Sarcasm would be something like "Good deprod, well made". Stating that "This is a serious waste of everyone's time" is just an observation.
  4. Lastly, I do not list prods on the project list because I prod so many goddamn pointless articles that the list would be endless. Plus I know that 99% of people on the project share my sentiments on such articles.

I really suggest you re-evaluate your approach to other users here, as you are becoming thoroughly unpleasant to deal with. пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:03, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

  • I have a problem? I think that's failing to assume good faith. Please follow WP:FAITH and other guidelines.
  1. 5 of your last 9 AFDs of teams failed. Yes you did link to it, but you overlooked that in your text. I wouldn't call that lying, though ... that's a little black and white isn't it? Besides, how many of your "endless prods" have I removed? One (I think) ... most seem bang on. It may well be valid, but I think require a bit more thought in case a mistake is made.
  2. "Your statement that "given the number of your club AFDs that you've withdrawn recently" is also rubbish. I haven't withdrawn any AfDs on clubs - I withdrew a few clubs from a single AfD, but that is all." - that's splitting hairs isn't it?
  3. perhaps sarcastic wasn't the correct description. Perhaps failing to assume good faith is.
  4. I'm "becoming thoroughly unpleasant to deal with"? Your the one who keeps harrasing me and violating Wikipedia guidelines left, right, and centre. I've had to warn you about personal attacks previously, and it appears you are still doing that - and I note that you managed to violate Section 3.1 of the Blocking policy today - not that he didn't have it coming, but another editor should have done it, not you. And I don't think your use of vulgar language in your posts on his page really helped (no I'm not stalking you or anything - couldn't help noticing as it was right above this).

Anyway, I wish you wouldn't start being personal about the whole project. Simply because some disagrees with you isn't a reason to start. Nfitz (talk) 09:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

"5 of your last 9 AFDs of teams failed. Yes you did link to it, but you overlooked that in your text." Rubbish. I clearly stated that all the teams that failed to meet the criteria were deleted, which is true. Why are you making such a big deal out of the fact that one out of 11 AfDs had some mistakes in?
This isn't about assuming good faith, because you are very clearly not acting in good faith. You have been acting on some personal vendetta since our first disagreement at an AfD (taking those articles to DRV just went to prove it) and are using comments on AfDs and deprodding to make some kind of twisted WP:POINT. As for accusing me of harassing you - what cheek! Seems strange how you end up commenting on almost every AfD I do, and strangely, almost always in the opposite way.
If you want me to assume good faith, how about you start creating some articles (on notable subjects) or expanding existing articles, rather than spending all your time in AfD conflicts. пﮟოьεԻ 57 10:06, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

  • I think the question is why are you making such a big deal that I challenged one of your prods. You seemed to prod a couple of dozen articles in the last fortnight, and I unprodded one (I think - I really don't look at whose it was, and I did unprod a couple of others, but they were on the deletion list, so I don't think they were yours). Surely that indicates that I support you 95% of the time. And I've supported - or at least failed to comment because support was overwhelming or I was neutral, on most of the AFDs currently ongoing. I've been mostly commenting on Football-project stuff lately. And most of my editing has been in that area too lately. I really don't see why your commenting that I'm commenting on "almost every AfD" that you do; I think there are several others doing that too - except that you seem to be picking on me because I don't agree with you. I'm looking through on what I've commented on recently, and some I have commented on a long time before you did. And others you didn't comment at all. And oddly here is one non-Football one I commented on, and then you popped in later on ... though I guess you agreed with me ... anyway, I'm thinking you are reading far too much into this. I'm just looking at your edit history ... if I start commenting on Isreali AfDs then there is an issue! In the meantime, can you just bring your comments down a level and try to be civil? Nfitz (talk) 17:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I was looking at those 2 old DRVS that apparently "taking those articles to DRV just went to prove it". Just not understanding that comment. I withdrew one of those after it became apparent that the source document (A Wikipedia page!) that proved notability was just plain wrong - and then I AFDed that page myself - the discussion DRV resulted in an improved Wikipedia. And in the other the deletion got upheld but you got rapped on the knuckles for not following process; surely it is my duty to speak up when a closing admin doesn't follow process (particularly when I disagree with the decision). I fail to see why you think that this is anything about you - if anything it could look to me that you have had your own vendetta since I spoke out aginst a AfD you had closed improperly - but I'm trying not to see it this way. Anyway probably best if we both drop the discussion, and try and work together to improve the project, rather than butting heads; though this means I'll likely to continue to challenge PRODs and AfDs - but surely having discussion about these things only improves the project; I'm trying very hard not to simply keep beating the same drum if consensus is otherwise. Acting Pres

And why not? It's nothing more than leaving out information by that logic. Why aren't they needed? The very fact of their provisional state does not rule out the fact that they were in the post. As long as they have been noted as acting, there shouldn't be a problem. Therequiembellishere (talk) 13:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

But they aren't part of the problem; I'm only including those specified as Acting Presidents at the end of the others' term. Therequiembellishere (talk) 13:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Not at all. Rulers.org and our very own list shows only those men and woman as acting presidents, not the rest. Therequiembellishere (talk) 13:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Notes, exactly. Notes are what I'm trying to show. I'm not saying that they were president, I'm saying that they were acting president and I've tried to show that as clearly as possible. To leave them out would be to pretend they were never acting presidents, which cannot be done. Other templates show their acting heads, why should Israel be any different? Therequiembellishere (talk) 13:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, then. It may take a while, though. Thank you for not acting hostile as I've recently been getting. Therequiembellishere (talk) 14:11, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Akanni-Sunday Wasiu

Can you review your AfD? We might disagree on what constitutes "played in a fully professional league", but surely this one meets your criteria? Nfitz (talk) 17:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Hmmm. The question is, are the leagues fully pro? Given that FK Vilnius' average crowds for the two seasons he was there were 429 and 575 (and others not even over 200) [1], I don't see how it can be. The Polish club were not in the second tier during his season, so I doubt that they were in a fully pro league either (their one season in the second tier in 2001/2 saw an average crowd of 926).[2] пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, you might want to check out my comment at the Michael Ohnesorge AfD - the Scottish season has already started, and he wasn't even a sub for the first game. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
PS - Articles don't have to go to DRVs to be restored. You can ask the admin that closed the discussion, or an admin knowledgeable in the field (such as myself) to restore an article as soon as a player makes his debut. It's not that much hassle. A second AfD on the other hand, is. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:32, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Well given they are no longer in that league, it might be part of the reason for their demise! As far as I know the Polish league was in the second tier - that's what the source I linked showed (though their current first division used to be called second division back then, AFAIUI). That Lithuanian league is professional according to Wikipedia. As far as asking a particular editor to recreate - if it's because he just played, then it would be better to go to DRV and get the first available editor to do so, before someone starts recreating it - though odds are the first person to tackle will not have a clue and will recreate rather than asking, or DRVing. Nfitz (talk) 22:45, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah yes, but you're forgetting the ultimate rule; Wikipedia is not a reliable source. I can see your point on the Ohnesorge AfD, but there are so many goddamn crap articles out there that I can't watchlist them all and wait a couple of weeks to see if they'd play. The real problem is IPs deprodding them without reason when they clearly fail the critiera. Like I said, I'm always happy to reinstate articles when they've actually played. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:50, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I don't see how IPs removing prods is an issue. If they do, it simply goes to AFD. While it helps to provide a reason, there is no requirement to do so. Nfitz (talk) 22:53, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
The issue is that AfDs are a hell of a lot of work for both the nominator and the closing admins, and are a serious waste of time in most cases where an IP has deprodded (I'm sure in 90% of cases it's the article's creator trying to do it anonymously)... пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:55, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
  • That's how a system with checks and balances works. It would be a lot easier if the police just locked people away without bothering about a trial ... but that tends to get out of hand. I'd prefer to assume good faith and think that it is just a random fan. Though I've been known to use an IP if I'm on an insecure connection and don't want to use my password - minor edits though, no prod removals - though I did a DRV once that way (for a player who had actually played in MLS - it quickly passed). Nfitz (talk) 23:04, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
  • The whole Lithuanian discussion is moot. I've been lookin into the Polish records - Szczakowianka Jaworzno played 2004/2005 in the second tier of Polish soccer, then called 2 Liga - the Polish Second League (renamed to Polish First League in 2008). There is no question that it is a fully professional league. The guy is dangerous though - wherever he goes disaster follows - Vilnius and Jaworzno have both dropped and St. Albans was almost last in Conference South - watch out Colchester! :). Nfitz (talk) 23:46, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah yes, looks like the team was renamed. Still not 100% sure it's a fully pro league though - I don't recall it ever being mentioned when WP:FOOTY has tried to compile a list. I've asked the editor who added the statement to the article that the clubs "must have professional status" to provide a reference. пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:25, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, not sure you'll think much of the reference, but according to the Wikipedia Article - Polish First League "2002, all teams participating in its games, must have professional status ". Just looking at the stadium sizes - this is a relatively significant league. Nfitz (talk) 08:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

question

hey mate question, You deleted my article karachi juniors fc citing "blatant advertising" as a reason..could you please explain further what exactly that means and how i can remove those "adverts"/improve my article so that it stays?! thanks, huzaifa saeed Huzaifa47 (talk) 20:18, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey I guess I am involved with the club to a some extent. However the reason I created this page is that one of our rival clubs "Karachi united Fc" too have a valid page on wikipedia.Although i guess our club isn't in the upper echleons as far as the country is concerned, It is without doubt one of the better club's in the city with an excellent record against most city clubs. On the other hand I would like to point out that none of the club's in the city(the largest in the country) can be regarded as professional from any angle, compared to where you are from(UK) the football scene here pretty much belong's at a stone age level..with little or no goverment attention, so arguably for a club to have a sponsor and be around for 8 years is a good achievement worthy of representaion, In my humble opinion atleast. We cannot participate in the kasb league(the top and ONLY league in the city) due to the fact that our squad's average age(Early 20's) and their educational/social background means that travelling for league matches(to stadiums belonging to more working class/dangerous(i'm sure you keep up with news)areas is certainly not viable..especially with the semi-professional nature of the league(It only pay's out winners/runners up overall prizes worth around 700-900 pounds)..however we definetly plan on playing in the next edition of the league(We conjured a close 2nd finish! the last time the league was played in favourable conditions http://www.rsssf.com/tablesp/paki3-05.html)..given our rising popularity/recruits. Hence instead for the time being we take part in friendlies and sponsored tournaments on a very regular basis. 2)Secondly I am fully willing to remove the link's to the sponsor's website..they were just an afterthought :)

3)"If you do write an article on an area in which you are personally involved, be sure to write in a neutral tone and cite reliable, third-party published sources, and beware of unintentional bias." this quote as you might know is from the wiki help page, which reckons we can in some way publish articles even with personal involvement.Seeing that is there any way you suggest I can edit the tone of the article to make it more neutral? Thanks for reading regards, huzaifa —Preceding unsigned comment added by Huzaifa47 (talkcontribs) 23:44, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Polish League

Hi 57. I hope this can serve as a source [3]. Check there at the bottom Instead of dealing with transfers, Polish clubs spent the summer completing their license documents. No team can play in the first league without these documents. This is the news item from 2003, when the licenses were introduced. Greetings. Tymek (talk) 17:44, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Cheers for creating the article, and many others. I didn't even realize that you were on such a roll! Good to know that the bot won't be needed.

On a side note, the developments are WP:HE worry me. I wonder if Shirahadasha realizes how much discussion and effort went into creating the guideline. I hope the dispute ends quickly and decisively so that we can restore the guideline's status without problems. Cheers! -- Ynhockey (Talk) 22:38, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Council maps

I made a first attempt: Image:South district divisions unlabeled.png.

Thoughts? -- Ynhockey (Talk) 17:38, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

That's right. It says in the image description. Even so, I have reservations about the color scheme - just that I used this one for cities and local councils on all my maps. Maybe I'll lighten the regional council colors. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:55, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
I have changed the color scheme and in addition added the same map only with the same coloring for all types of municipalities (useful for location maps): Image:South district divisions blank.png. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 14:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
The unclaimed 'municipality' is Ir Ovot. I don't know why it isn't part of a regional council. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 14:58, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Other than that, I believe it requires more research. I copied the map almost verbatim from the GIS source I linked to earlier. There could be errors. In fact, my earlier maps (from 2006) were based on an earlier version of the vector data from the source, which was based on 2000 or 2001 borders or something, so there were a lot of updates. Maybe it's worth e-mailing the Tamar Regional Council. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 15:14, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Your signature

Please consider altering your signature to make it more legible. In an AFD I like to know who is making an argument. Thanks. Edison (talk) 21:14, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

On an LCD monitor the "number" part looks very faint, like yellow on white, and almost impossible to read. On a CRT monitor it is more orange on white and clearer. The symbol representing "u" is a bit faint on the vertical strokes. The "7"is much darker looking and at first looks like part of the time/date field (granted, it would be an unusual time of day). Also, it would be helpful to have a click link to your talk page. Thanks. Edison (talk) 23:11, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, the "5" does indeed link to your talk page. Call me oldfashioned,(or pour me an Old Fashioned) but a link that merely says "Talk" seems clearer. Regards. Edison (talk) 00:41, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

Hi there. I believe that the user User:In5ecUr!ty may be a sock puppet for User:Avi15. The User, Avi15, spent most of yesterday throwing speedy deletion tags on a number of article. I warned him about not putting speedy deletion tags on new articles I created for new hurling players. Anyways, the new user I talk about, was created today and low and behold, the new user started to throwing speedy deletion tags on new hurling players i created.

For instance, check out the following article.

Both given speed deletion tags by both users. ManfromDelmonte (talk) 12:40, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

After more investigation, both users also placed speedy deletion tags on editors, user pages and talk pages in the last 24 hours. I am now almost certain that both editors are the same person with User:In5ecUr!ty being a sock puppet. ManfromDelmonte (talk) 12:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

sockpuppetry accusation

This guy thats accusing me of sockpuppetry has no verification for his claims. As I said, I placed his article up for deletion with the {db-g1} tage becuase at the time it was lousy - (nonsense; hardly any content). If you need any proof of my innocence simply refer to my contributions: as you can see everything's legit. He also accuses me of sockpuppeteering User:In5ecUr!ty, however if you check his contributions this huy actually blanked several articles and then placed them up for deletion. As for the outlandish libel that ties in with Australian and Jewish articles, the only person at fault there is ManfromDelmonte who's trying to fulfill his personal vendetta against me, with his Anti-Australian and Anti-Semitic sentiments. Cheers Avi15 (talk) 14:14, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Richard Sukuta-Pasu

You've closed this based on that he doesn't meet WP:ATHLETE.

However the primary argument to keep was that he meets WP:N because of massive media coverage. Not one editor challenged this in the AfD. As such this appears to be a keep, and at a minimum the closing statement in the AfD need to discuss this. Nfitz (talk) 16:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

As noted several times, though not necessarily in that AfD, football players generate large amounts of coverage due to the media saturation of the sport. It is therefore a totally unrealistic barometer of notability. For example, a part-time footballer in the Conference will have more media coverage than the King of Tonga, when it's quite clear that one is more notable than the other. One could probably find enough media articles solely about players at the 10th level of English football to justify WP:N, when such players are clearly not notable. Also, it has long been consensus that caps at youth level do not confer notability. пﮟოьεԻ 57 20:34, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

PS - I've amended the closing statement to reflect the above. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:02, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

There were 826 articles in the week previous when to July 31, 2008. That's a lot of coverage, far more than I've ever seen before in one of these AfDs, to tell the truth. And significant as well - there's a feature article in Bild, perhaps the largest newspaper in Europe - [4]. I'm really astounded that there is any debate that he meets WP:N.

(not sure about you point about the King of Tonga - he's had more local newspaper coverage in the last week than any Conference football player I know. 357 articles internationally in the last week [5])

I'd really rather not start another DRV, but I don't feel that there is any alternative. I admit some of the ones I argued for are either borderline, or straddling the WP:CRYSTAL issue. But I think this one is different. Nfitz (talk) 23:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Book, masochism (coldness and cruelty) Deleuze

Hi, just noticed that you deleted the article on Deleuze's book. reason being A7, however, A7 does not apply to books: "A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on." . I had written basic information (publication dates) along with a brief description of the themes elaborated in the book. I was planning to expand on some of those themes later on, however, i do not think that the objection (A7) applies. please clarify.

From reading the article, it appears that Brash played in Scottish League First Division for (at least) the 1984-5 season. Is this accepted as a fully-professional league, in the spirit of WP:FOOTYN? CJPargeter (talk) 10:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Alex Brash, you missed the discussion which resulted in the prod being replaced after it had been mistakenly removed. The Scottish First Division was not fully pro at the time, and Brash has even said that he never played professionally.[6] Can you reinstate the prod. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:06, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Uh, no I didn't. I noticed the discussion in the history immediately after I removed, and the very next thing I did was restore the prod, before you'd put this on my talk page. Nfitz (talk) 21:12, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm not stalking you. I have the article on my watchlist as I placed the prod on it. I might ask the same question given your deprodding of the Rec.sport.cricket article (an area in which you don't seem to have edited before). Also, you never responded to my question above. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:15, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Though I have edited in the area of Usenet before. As you've noted that you won't follow the community standard of placing prods for football-related articles on Wikipedia:WikiProject Football I have little choice but checking your edit history for prods, to stop worthy articles being deleted - and that one jumped out at me. But note that it took me a day to do it - I wasn't there 5 seconds later before you could edit again. Nfitz (talk) 21:21, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma

Could you comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma. Another AfD with lots of media coverage, but unlike Sukuta-Pasu his media coverage notes that he is expected to be a first-team player this season. Nfitz (talk) 21:44, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

King of Tonga

"In the example given the King of Tonga gets 95 hits compared to 119 for the semi-pro footballer."

  • How bizarre. Clicking on your links, I get "Results 1 - 10 of about 124 from news.bbc.co.uk for "Djoumin Sangare" and "Results 1 - 10 of about 134 from news.bbc.co.uk for "George Tupou V". "". If I expand completely without duplicates - I only get 37 hits for the footballer and also 37 hits for the King. Not that this means much - but odd that we see different results ... Nfitz (talk) 21:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

hey, I've re-done the karachi juniors page and put it up on my user page.I guess you will have to count the kusl(also known as KASB bank league in some places) as a D division..however it would be unfair to compare it with the pakistani league system because that is pretty much dominated by the Armed forces(army, navy, airforce) and other goverment and national departments(Airlines,Oil refineries, railways etc),So hence even though arugably the city's private clubs might be up there with them as far as playing level's are concerned they have no Incentive(financial mostly) to travel all over the country jeapordizing their job's and studies(None of the player's in the city of karachi are professionals..all have a daily job)...So in a way none of the senior people in the footballing scene regard the aforementioned league system as invalid. Hope that was of any help regards, huzaifa —Preceding unsigned comment added by Huzaifa47 (talkcontribs) 22:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rafael Cretaro

I have concerns about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rafael Cretaro. We've had precedents where players on fully professional team in the second league in Denmark are notable. But we don't accept players in the top league in Ireland? Though I confess I'm not sure of the professionality of his teams - though I thought Galway United were. Nfitz (talk) 23:47, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm torn whether or not we should treat Irish tier 1 as professional. Though doesn't he meet WP:FOOTYN, which perhaps doesn't count for much - but ironically haven't I seen you supporting?
Also can you weigh in on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma - it's a bit different, with media references of him playing with the first team. Nfitz (talk) 17:27, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
You've almost sold me. Though I feel the standard should be played on a fully professional team in league or cup match with another fully professional - but I agree that isn't currently the standard. BTW, I'd still appreciate your thoughts on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma. Nfitz (talk) 21:25, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Jack Wilshere

Hiya --

Excuse my ignorance (I've tried to understand how to get through the red tape, and in the end reached the conclusion that it wasn't all that user-friendly a system to wade through, so maybe talking to someone admin-ish would be best), but how would someone (myself?) go about getting a Jack Wilshere article re-created. The article was previously deleted on the basis that he wasn't considered more than a peripheral figure in the Arsenal youth side. Since that time, he has featured in all of Arsenal's 2008 pre-season friendlies, scored a number of pre-season goals, and, most importantly, been issued with a first-team squad number for the 2008/9 season (Wilshere proves talent wins out). This means that, for the Arsenal F.C. Wikipedia page to be updated and correct, a page would be required to be able to link from the squad list to the player's own page.

Sorry if just contacting you isn't the right way of handling this, but like I said, I looked at the official channels on how to do it, and I couldn't see how to go about "appealing" against the deletion review.

Cheers,

Alan. 85.158.45.25 (talk) 18:40, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

OK, so now Jack Wilshere has been named on the bench for a first team competitive match (Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion match report, 2008-08-16), will that suffice? Or will we have to let Wiki languish behind other information sources, meaning that if people search it for information about Arsenal's newest footballer, they won't find anything here and will resort to using other information sources instead?

Removed prod from Cullen F.C.

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Cullen F.C., which you proposed for deletion, because I think that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Atamachat 19:03, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Rafael Aparecido da Silva

Hi there, I think you deleted this article by mistake. The cached version of that page on Google shows a different player, who is notable. The article must have been vandalised to refer to Rafael Pereira da Silva (footballer born 1990), and then tagged with the {{db-g4}} template. I think you should undelete the article and restore the old version. – PeeJay 22:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, my bad. The cached version was just another article about Rafael Pereira da Silva except by the wrong name. Sorry. – PeeJay 22:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar

You deserve it :) the effort has been amazing, it's exactly what I had in mind when I asked for help regarding to bot on the WikiProject page. Glad that someone took my request seriously!

By the way, I have serious reservations about the naming convention X, Mateh Binyamin or whatever. I think that the convention is not clear-cut in this case, and we must make the articles as easy to find as possible. Regional councils are not well-known entities in Israel (same as districts), so I don't think they should be used. As much as I hate the term 'West Bank', I think it could be more appropriate in many of these cases. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:44, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Acting PM and caretaker for PM

No - this is again a mistake. If the PM is dead, then The minister of acting PM - becomes the Acting PM (assumes PM office immdiatlly). however, If the PM is is ill (example: Sharon having a stroke), then the minister of acting PM, becomes the "caretker for PM", thus, not assuming office until 100 day passed, in which the ill PM is declared "permenantlly incapacitated", thus, out of office, and only then the minister of acting PM - can becom Acting PM (in office)
By anycase, can you help me on this one ...?? I put on my talk page a link to a new template i'm trying to write, based on olmert's - only with the additional parameters - i mentioned in the above. Turkish leagues

Do you know which Turkish leagues are professional, given the surge of AfDs in this area lately? Nfitz (talk) 20:50, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

neither do I. Given how seriously they take the sport there, and the population being 40% bigger than England, I wouldn't be surprised if the 18-team TFF First League is as well, though the third tier TFF Second League has 54 teams in it. Football in Turkey refers to 4 professional leagues, though with another 51 teams in TFF Third League that get's hard to swallow. TFF First League plays in quite large stadiums, - I can't see how many show up for a game though. Nfitz (talk) 21:10, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Korcan Çelikay

Hello. I wanted to ask about your closing of this AfD. I know you are a dedicated member of WP:FOOTY and appreciate all of your efforts to improve football articles, but I think you made have made a mistake here. User:Nfitz made the erroneous statement that Çelikay played in the Besiktas Super Lig first team during the 2005-06 season, but that is only because he is not reading the TFF website carefully (or maybe he is using the Turkish version?). If you go to his profile here (http://www.tff.org/Default.aspx?pageId=526&kisiId=692475) and click on the total link, you will see he has only played in the PAF/amateur league (for Besiktas) and the regionalized third level (2. League B) for Tepecik Belediyespor. Unless someone can show that the 3rd level in Turkey is fully professional, this article clearly fails WP:ATHLETE and this player is not yet notable. Perhaps he will appear in one of Besiktas' Super Lig matches, but until he does, it violates WP:CRYSTAL to assume that he passes WP:ATHLETE.

Sorry for the long message and I hope you understand that I am not criticizing you (or Nfitz). It was an understandable mistake on his part and you were simply applying his statement to conclude that the article passed WP:ATHLETE. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 01:27, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi. You closed the discussion as "speedy keep." However, none of the speedy keep criteria applied to that specific afd, and there clearly was no consensus to keep. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 03:42, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Korcan Çelikay

You might want to rethink your !vote, as the link you've cited [8] is actually a third division "A" team game (note that the team is Tesisler, not Besiktas). пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:26, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Now that's an interesting twist. Doesn't show what league the team was playing in during 2005/2006 - but looking at 2006/2007 and his age it does appear unlikely that he was starting for a Tier 1 team. Nfitz (talk) 08:40, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Deletion review for Tommy Smith (footballer born 1990)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Tommy Smith (footballer born 1990). Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Nfitz (talk) 15:42, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

You didn't have to go to DRV; simply asking would have been enough, and avoided work for other editors. You might also want to rethink your comments at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Waide_Fairhurst as neither player even made the bench for the first match of the season.[10] пﮟოьεԻ 57 17:17, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I'd have though what happened would have you rethinking deleting it in the first plaec. I was trying to get article recreated before someone started a new one. And even then, it didn't work, as someone did create a new one. Had you been active at that point I would have contacted you, but you weren't. This is my real fear with these pointless deletions that we know will come back, is that people will waste time rewriting articles that already delete, but are not accessible for the vast majority of editors. I'll review those other two, as it appears they weren't even on the bench. Nfitz (talk) 18:31, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Omar 'OJ' Koroma

Your closing statement is inaccurate. There is no way that you can describe the keep votes as a WP:CRYSTAL violations. His playing soon was almost certain. WP:CRYSTAL notes that "Individual scheduled or expected future events should only be included if the event is notable and almost certain to take place.". Can you please modify the closing statement. Nfitz (talk) 03:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

  • The votes were WP:CRYSTAL violations. There was no way those editors could have known that he was "almost certain" to make his debut unless they are called Glenn Roeder. The fact that he played in pre-season is totally irrelevant; clubs often use it as a chance to check out how their youngsters are progressing. He wasn't even in the starting line up for the game, and had Norwich been winning, he probably wouldn't have played. пﮟოьεԻ 57 10:15, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I disagree. Roeder had made little secret that Koroma was a key part of his first team. In addition to the August 4thBBC article that indicated that Portsmouth intended him to have first team experience at Norwich, we also had the August 2nd Sporting Life article that said that "Glenn Roeder has vented his frustration at the red tape which has prevented him from fielding his strongest side in pre-season.. (though with all these articles about his signing - [11], perhaps the basis of the argument should have been WP:BIO. Anyway, given all these articles, I think that "almost certain" was met before he walked onto the field. Nfitz (talk) 06:15, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Also what is best way to challenge this. Is DRV appropriate venue if one agrees with the decision, but objects completely to the closing statement? Doesn't quite seem right, but RFC seems like overkill. Nfitz (talk) 22:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Also seems like overkill. Perhaps a simple discussion somewhere on what is Crystal, without appealing anything in particular - and perhaps RFC is best for that. Nfitz (talk) 22:16, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Can I suggest that instead of continually reverting Rml23, you take the topic to the WP:FOOTBALL project? This is a continual source of debate and it would be healthier to win the war there than fighting these tiny battles on the periphery. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:52, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Cool, I understand entirely, but could you consider unblocking him (or would you mind if I did) so that he can take part in the discussion at WP:FOOTBALL? The Rambling Man (talk) 10:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Take it easy dude. I know tempers are fraying but if he's going to exercise his right to vanish then problem solved. • As far as I'm aware, but that doesn't make any diffence as to him failing WP:ATHLETE. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Your likely correct, but I think it should go to AfD for wider consideration. Nfitz (talk) 18:03, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I would urge you to reconsider. There is no doubt that it will be deleted, and will just be a huge waste of everyone's time. People are getting very sick of AfDs at the moment. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I'd be more comfortable if I knew where he was now; little point in having an AfD for a player that we will have to recreate shortly anyways (and yes I'm tired of all these AfDs on players that will clearly have articles shortly - what's the point! Nfitz (talk) 18:10, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • That was your rationale for the Doncaster players AfD. The Scottish season has been going for a few weeks now, and he's nowhere near the first team. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • That was an AfD, this is a prod. I'll quite happily push a prod to an AfD, and then vote for deletion - but I think other editors need to take a closer look, in case they catch something I don't - which keeps happening. There's another one today Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christian La Torre, was prodded, immediately got 5 deletes the "me too gang", before someone provided clearly evidence that he was notable. Sooner we AfD a hundred articles that we delete, than we delete one prod by accident. Nfitz (talk) 18:19, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Hang on - I voted to delete in the Doncaster players AfD! Nfitz (talk) 18:26, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I meant that it was you who deprodded them and forced the AfD on everyone. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:07, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I didn't force an AfD. I recommended in the deprod that people simply wait a week or two. I see no point in people making all these AfDs and prods that violate WP:POINT days before the season starts. In a couple of weeks everything will be a lot clearer. That AfD was particularly odd, as the nominator chose to completely misrepresent what I had said in the Prod - and I'm yet to get an explanation of why he did that. Nfitz (talk) 21:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Deprodding an article forces an AfD. These articles should not be on Wikipedia full stop. The fact that it is X amount of time until the start of the season is totally irrelevant, and to remove a prod based on that argument is a WP:CRYSTAL violation. We can never assume that someone will play until they actually do, or the starting line up for a game is announced by the club. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:51, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
  • That's very black and white - Wikipedia is not black and white. If we have the media, coach, etc., saying that then they are going to be playing, then it's not a WP:CRYSTAL violation. WP:CRYSTAL clearly says "almost certain" - and there are many cases where WP:CRYSTAL doesn't apply; I'll agree the recent Doncaster AfDs are not one of these cases, but there is no point deleting articles that will only have to reappear within a fortnight or so full stop. We can't assume the sun will rise tomorrow either, but 2009 was created in November 2001! (though that's pushing it I'd say) - but other's don't think so Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2009.

Normally I'd object - but it had become quite apparent that this guy was not close to ever make an appearance when after the team was severely short of players (suspensions, injuries, and Olympics), the coach elected to play with only 5 subs because he said there was no point having subs that he would never actually put on the pitch (and of those subs, 1 was a keeper, and the second was just recovering from a concussion, and only realistically available for about 15 minutes of play). Hi Number 57! I have recently filed an ANI complaint against User:Deanb, who has been making subtle unwanted changes to a series of articles over his entire 'editing career', with very few positive contributions (details in the complaint). The complains was received with very strange and irrelevant responses. I have also approached by Deanb off Wikipedia about this and while I will keep the bulk our conversation in private, it's interesting to note that Deanb assured me that he had no intention of reading any Wikipedia policies and guidelines (WP:HE, WP:CON, WP:MOS and others I pointed him to) because of time constraints, although he will back down on the current edits. This means that he will likely make more harmful edits and will further ignore warnings. As an administrator, are you willing to look into the matter and suggest a solution? I'm not sure you can act about this because you are involved, in a way (having edited those articles), although you probably know the procedure well and will act accordingly. Think you've made a mistake here - he didn't play - he was an unused sub.[14] пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I blew that one, didn't I. Might as well proceed with the DRV again though now. His media coverage has been massive - I have no comprehension why this alone isn't enough. And if playing for 5 minutes for a 4th Division team in England is good enough, I would think that sitting on the bench for Arsenal is more significant ... Nfitz (talk) 18:59, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Not really. He still fails WP:ATHLETE as he hasn't played. I would strongly advise withdrawing the DRV, as filing one less than 24 hours after the last one closed doesn't look good. пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree that he technically still fails WP:ATHLETE, however the last DRV confirmed that WP:BIO trumps WP:ATHLETE. Not much point withdrawing now - I wouldn't have started it ... but it's an honest mistake, so don't see any point withdrawing now. Nfitz (talk) 19:11, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Though User:Chick Bowen should certainly close it if he sees fit. Nfitz (talk) 19:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Nokia Arena

I'm pretty sure the reality is opposite of what you said, i.e. Nokia Arena is actually the official name, while Yad Elyahu is the common name. Every recent official publication/invitation/ticket I've seen writes 'Nokia Arena' (as well, the Hebrew Wikipedia implies that this is the official name), while people 'on the street' call it 'Yad Elyahu'. I don't really feel strongly about the issue and therefore believe that it's a borderline case and no one name is definitively correct. The common name therefore should probably be found and used, per naming conventions. It's interesting to note that back in the day, one of WP:NC's primary guiding rules was to use the name that the subject itself prefers. Today, this is nowhere to be found and in fact there is a guideline proposal to the direct opposite of this idea. This means that Yad Elyahu is likely a better name than Nokia Arena. On a side note, this also means that Ness Ziona may be the wrong title in regards to today's guidelines. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:07, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Leigh Mills

k, I am confused here. It says he was signed on loan for the whole season by Brentford FC on BBC and the Spurs official website. So why is he suddenly at Gillingham? And on the Gillingham page? How did that happen and work? Govvy (talk) 23:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

anyway, I worked it out all now. I have updated his whole article with refs, it's a lot better now. Hope it's upto your standard!! :) Govvy (talk) 23:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson is now a first team player at Reading. He has played for Iceland at youth level. He has a squad number. He was a crucial part in the team that won the reserve league. I commented on this in the "discussion" page of the article, but you went ahead and deleted it. He's now notable, so you deleted with no reason. I give you the cases of Michael Woods (footballer), Craig Cathcart, Craig Lindfield, etc. who were all not deleted because "he has a squad number", "he's played internationally at youth level" and "he won the FA Youth Cup twice", respectively. Gylfi is just as notable as them. I had provided references. I find it very rude that you deleted this article. Please recreate. SCIAG (talk) 12:52, 17 August 2008 (UTC) Oh, and before you say "he fails WP:Athlete", so do those players named above, but they have their pages. Cathcart may well soon meet the criteria, as will Sigurdsson, but my point still stands.SCIAG (talk) 13:23, 17 August 2008 (UTC) Dorian Dervitte? Also, cup games don't seem to count- WP:BIO states LEAGUE matches only. You may have noticed that Dervitte, Woods, Cathcart and Lindfield were all nominated for deletion at the same time- see Chelsea F.C.'s talk page and then the link under "Woods and Yves nominated for deletion" or something similar. That debate makes it seem that Gyfli is fine (has a squad number, named on bench for a match, youth international, crucial part of reserve league winning side.) SCIAG (talk) 18:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC) Normally I'd have given up by now, but I just found this: "Articles about first team squad members who have not made a first team appearance may also be appropriate, but only if the individual is at a club of sufficient stature that most members of its squad are worthy of articles" Every member of Reading's squad bar the likes of Gylfi have articles. SCIAG (talk) 19:01, 17 August 2008 (UTC) He's now notable, please recreate. He came on as a sub in the Carling Cup match against Luton Town FC. SCIAG (talk) 07:23, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

the ballers show

hi there,

i am enquiring into the deletion of the page on contributed which was about a tv show called the ballers show. it was deemed as advertising yet it was an overview of the tv series with references that prove it exists and is no different to other 'tv' shows which exist on wikipedia i.e. the apprentice? i would appreciate if you would explain this so i cant work on the error or if this has been deleted in error i would appreciate its return. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tgah (talkcontribs) 21:57, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Israeli politics and politicians

Hi! I'm going through a somewhat stressed time at the moment, so I promised myself I wouldn't get involved in serious editing (i.e. article creation) these days. However, I have been following your new articles on Israeli politics and they're very nice. Hopefully, I'll get back to content editing soon. Shevashalosh, my block

Hi Number57,
I have just seen your comment on the WP:AN.
Permit me to say I don't think you are fair with me (and her) in this issue.
Did you see the number of editors she has been reverted by and the number of crazy (and naive) pov-pushings she wrote ?
When you blocked me, while I had shown numerous times I had tried to discuss with her at different places, despite her disruptive attitude that was only forgiven because she was "newbee" and with my "background" on numerous articles, talk pages and with numerous editors, it was expectable that this would be reverted.
Even if you don't agree and feel "frustrated" by the outcome, I expect you will finally have onather perception of what have happened.
See you, Ceedjee (talk) 18:28, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I didn't discuss about this last thread on wp:an but about the whole issue.
48 h to have 1948 Battles for Jerusalem (that exists) instead of Siege of Jerusalem (1948) when I am the only one who discussed the issue...
I have to disagree.
And if that was that obvious, the block would not have been contested.
And in fact, if Shevashalosh would have been warned or blocked sooner, eg by you, nothing would have happened.
Ceedjee (talk) 05:44, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Ok. I think it is useless to go on the discussion at this stage.

Yediot Aharonot, Yisrael HaYom, definition of tabloid, and Oren.tal

Shalom. I would like your third opinion on the disagreement that Oren.tal has been having with me on these pages. Whether you want to read the chatter we've had over the fast couple of days or not, the disagreement is over calling the newspapers tabloids, trying to differentiate between tabloid style, format, content, etc... (if objectively possible), wikifying the word in the mainspace, and if the co.il URL is more representative of the Yediot page or not. Please reply here or on the article pages. Thanks. --Shuki (talk) 21:41, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Central Midlands League Premier Division

Hello. Can I ask who's idea it was to remove the template for the CML Premier Division? As thats now disappeared, its left the CML Page void of any details of the clubs that play in that division! So unless you want to add a new section on that page listing the constitution for the two divisions for this season, I suggest it be added back. Sarumio (talk) 13:49, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Is the deletion of this template a a part of a policy to delete (non) league templates? As a contributer to the template I was suprised to see it go and don't see it as non-contriversal. I'm sorry if I missed an AfD, but I would have been against. Bevo74 (talk) 17:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Israel Labor Party

I believe the name should be Israel Labor Party, not Israeli Labor Party. This follows the naming conventions used by the State of Israel in English for all institutions (Israel Police, Israel Prison Service, Israel Navy and Israel Defense Forces, among others). -- Ynhockey (Talk) 19:55, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I think it's not a question of translation, but general naming conventions used by the state. As poor as the general English conventions are (for example, on road signs... eek), it seems that in this case the state has followed a very strict and well-working convention of writing Israel [institution], regardless of the Hebrew name. This can be seen by my examples provided, which all have different Hebrew names (משטרת ישראל, צבא ההגנה לישראל, חיל הים הישראלי, שירות בתי הסוהר (???), וכו'). -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:04, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
By the way, the Knesset website (which is usually not great for English, but still worth noting) also uses Israel Labor Party. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:05, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Ni-Vanuatu

Hi. I see you've moved titles with "ni-Vanuatu" to "Vanuatuan". You stated, in explanation, that "ni-Vanuatu" refers only to indigenous people, and not to a nationality. Very few sources seem to provide information on that issue, but the government of Vanuatu uses "ni-Vanuatu" to indicate nationality. [16] If you have a source indicating the opposite, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll assume that the government of the country knows what its own citizens are called, and I'll revert the edits back to "ni-Vanuatu". Thanks in advance. Look please at Český Těšín article, section about the places of worship. I used the Polish text as a source for Jewish history. The text used the transcriptions which are used also in the en wiki article. The Schomre Schabos seems non-problematic as it seems to be used also in various other sources. The Maschike Hatora however returns 0 Google hits. - Darwinek (talk) 15:01, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much. :) Do you think I should leave the spelling from the book or replace with more precise one? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Neil Gallagher (footballer)

Hi Stifle. Obviously (as nominator) I'm disappointed about the outcome of this AfD. As I'm probably going to renominate, could you give me some advice on how to better debunk the claims of the keep !voters? I thought I had done enough on this AfD by pointing out that it was quite clear that the ROI leagues were not professional, but it obviously wasn't. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 11:41, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, I live in the ROI and am more familiar than most with the matter at hand. I think that the keep !voters successfully made out that the guideline didn't entirely work for the Irish leagues. In so far as Gallagher and the Irish league are considered professional, he has competed in that league; in so far as they are considered amateur, he has played at the highest level in amateur sports. Additionally, they pointed out that he is expected to play in the UEFA Cup soon.
Since there's not much in the article, perhaps merging it to a list of Longford Town players might be an alternative solution. Stifle (talk) 12:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Daniel wash (talk) 17:23, 9 September 2008 (UTC)can someone assist in rewriting this article?

Paul Zammit (footballer)

Uh - did you really intend to prod an article for the manager of a team that played in this year's Champions League? Nfitz (talk) 06:23, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

  • I guess I'll take that as a yes ... I just don't see how the project is helped by trying to delete articles like this, or Paul Cairney. Nfitz (talk) 18:11, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I think we both know whose pointy edits are not helpful to the project - perhaps if you spent less time forcing AfDs (the vast majority of which end in delete) or DRVs (100% unsuccess rate) then we wouldn't have to worry about time wasting. Also, at least check your google news hits - most of them were about someone else - add Queen's Park and you get less than 30. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

  • I certainly can't think of any pointy edits of mine. I'm not actually sure what your referring to. I've worked very hard to make sure my article edits are very NPOV, often going back later and cleaning them up myself just so make sure. Add Park and Thistle and you get 43. Is 43 enough ... no. Is 350 enough - your answer on that was also no. Is 3,122,235,981 enough ...
Also, give up on the WP:Stalking. пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:43, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
  • That's a pretty serious charge, and perhaps a personal attack, which I've asked you not to make previously. I confess that I've looked at your (and other people's) edit history to find football articles you are prodding. However the WP:FOOTIE project asks their members (and you are one) to list proposed deletions at WP:FOOTIE#Nominations for deletion and page moves, however when you've been asked to do this in the past, you've said you don't have to, because you do so many. Nfitz (talk) 01:54, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
It isn't a personal attack, it's a fact. It's quite clear that you are following me around (via my contributions history) to disrupt the project by deliberately forcing AfDs in cases where you have been told by multiple editors that your beliefs about things like top divisions being notable regardless of professional status are not shared by others. I have no problem with you removing a prod on an article where you find evidence that the subject meets the criteria, but on the vast majority of occasions you know full well that the subject fails WP:ATHLETE yet you still go ahead and do it. I think the question we're all asking is why do you persist with this behaviour? пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:46, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
That's a bit POV isn't it? As far as I can tell, your trying to disrupt the project by going around trying to delete good articles for players in professional leagues, on the basis that they are only semi-professional. When I notice an editor PRODing articles that clearly should be dealt with at AfD, I really don't see a problem just looking at what other articles in the same area he has prodded recently. I only recall removing 2 of your prods in the last fortnight or so. Leading to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Zammit (footballer) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Cairney. Zammit was so bizarre to me that I assumed that you had done it in error - and looking at the AfD most seem to agree.
The problem is that you seem to think I'm trying to disrupt the project (given I'm trying to advance the project, accusing me of this is yet another personal attack, and a violation of WP:FAITH). Nfitz (talk) 16:48, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but I just can't believe that you are only here to try and advance the project - certainly in early and mid August you did almost nothing but drag out AfDs on non-notable footballers and did virtually nothing in the project space. What it looks like to me is that you have some form of personal grudge going back to the first AfD we clashed on and that since then you've deliberately tried to keep almost every article I've attempted to delete. And like I said, I'm not the only editor from WP:FOOTY who is tired of your behaviour on deletion issues. Anyway, it's clear that we cannot work together constructively, so it's probably best to just avoid each other. пﮟოьεԻ 57 17:27, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
  • I fail to see why you apologise, and then proceed with yet another personal attack. I am tired of every time you challenge me on something, that you accuse me of having a grudge. Please stop the personal attacks. I have asked far more times that should be necessary. you've deliberately tried to keep almost every article I've attempted to delete. - that's completely not true, and you know it - I've removed VERY few of your prods, most are fine, I've ignored many of your AfDs, and voted to delete on others; I've also withdrawn keep votes after discussion - does this sound like grudge behaviour to you? I've found it odd that you've been completely uninvolved in an AfD that I've been involved with, and then think it's appropriate to be the closing admin - however I'm not accusing you here ... just saying it looks funny at times. Tell you what, if you follow WP:FOOTY guidelines and list your prods, I'll never look at your contribution list ever again. Nfitz (talk) 00:30, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good to me - I was also thinking of offering the same compromise (regarding listing the prods - I assume this means you will not deprod them unless you have evidence of them meeting WP:ATHLETE and leave it up to other WP:FOOTY members to decide?). Regarding closing AfDs that you've been involved in but I haven't - I can't close them if I've been involved. пﮟოьεԻ 57 11:02, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Ah, well that's an issue. If they don't meet WP:FOOTY and do meet WP:BIO then that might be a problem. Though I could become a lot more co-operative (for lack of a better word) on what meets WP:BIO; that being said though I have no comprehension why many felt Jack Wilshere didn't meet WP:BIO when he had hundreds of articles about him, with dozens of international ones. I can barely imagine having a player who doesn't meet WP:ATHLETE having so much media coverage again.
But the bigger issue would be this deletion of top-flight players of major countries such as Ireland, Latvia, etc. There seems to be consensus at WP:FOOTY about this, and if so, I don't see why we all just don't simply start supporting this in AfD and DRV discussion, which would then create the precedents that would mean that there was community support for this. Nfitz (talk) 03:12, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Date formats after autoformatting

With the recent deprecation of date autoformatting, "raw" dates are becoming increasingly visible on Wikipedia. Strong views are being expressed, and even some edit-warring here and there. A poll has been initiated to gauge community support to help us develop wording in the Manual of Style that reflects a workable consensus. As you have recently commented on date formats, your input would be helpful in getting this right. Four options have been put forward, summarised as:

  1. Use whatever format matches the variety of English used in the article
  2. For English-speaking countries, use the format used in the country, for non-English-speaking countries, use the format chosen by the first editor that added a date to the article
  3. Use International format, except for U.S.-related articles
  4. Use the format used in the country

The poll may be found here, as a table where you may indicate your level of support for each option above. --Pete (talk) 18:29, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Jamie Jones (footballer)

Hey, could you restore the article Jamie Jones (footballer), who has played ine the Football League Trophy?[22] Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 11:58, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Jamie Barclay

If you delete one player from the third division, you have to delete every single player that has ever played there as there highest level.

It is fully professional, being part-time doesn't lessen the players professionalism. The player in question is a kid who has played in a league game in SD3 which is part of the Scottish football pyramid.

If players from there are not allowed, then why the f**k are players from the English conference is a terrible level of football, and not FULLY professional as there are part-time clubs playing in it?

You also state "Both the second and third divisions are semi-professional" which is not entirely true. Are you just ignoring East Fife for the sake of your argument.

Just because someone doesn't come from country doesn't mean that you can belittle their national football league. Or do delete every single person who you have never heard in spite of the amount of evidence being put in front of you? Salty1984 (talk) 15:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

EDIT Forgot to sign it, but I noticed the guy above asked for a guy who hasn't played a league game in a FULLY PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE, just in a cup game...

Thanks for your response. I'll bear that in mind if any of our kids play a cup game seen as we're in a "fully professional league". ;) Salty1984 (talk) 15:47, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Liam Kearney

I know a page that does no match your criteria for a football player:Nicky Smith. Liam Kearney is known nationwide in Ireland and at least 2 million more people have heard of him instead of Nicky Smith. And by the way, you've never benn to Ireland so how you know if he is notable. Let me just say this:Nicky Smith is known by maybe one or two people in England, but Liam Kearney is known by 6.2 million in Ireland. Cork City are also known in England because of all the Irish there , and also in Germany, Turkey, Finland, United States of America and Canada, the latter Irish emigrants who would have spread word about the club and also Liam Kearney. The team have supporters club in the USA, Canada, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, France and England. Liam Kearney plays for a team known for maybe millions more than those figures of people in Ireland. Now you find this out: How many countries have supporters clubs in other countries for a team called A.F.C. Sudbury? You obviously do not have knowledge of Ireland. Did you know that more Irish live outside the island than on it. It's true. About 8 million alone live in America. About 5 million in Britain, and up to 2 million in France.

Let's do a bit of maths: 6.2 +8.0 +1.8 +5.0 +4.2

= 25.2 milion

All these people have a knowledge of the FAI League of Ireland, its clubs, and players. Maybe about 100,000 have heard of Nicky Smith and there is no deletion tag for him, someone whose page was created by you. 25 million have heard of Liam Kearney and you say he is unnotable but that Nicky Smith is not? Surely I have the right to put a deletion tag on Nicky Smith.

Template:Infobox Kibbutz

Hi again! Can you please change the field kibbutz_name to name in this protected template? It will make it cleaner, compliant with the documentation, and most importantly, the pushpin map will work correctly. I guess this will require altering hundreds of pages, so for now you can also keep the kibbutz_name field which will become deprecated eventually. Alternatively, it might be better if you just unprotected the template (I can see no reason for protection - it is certainly not a high-risk template). Thanks in advance! -- Ynhockey (Talk) 15:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Cheers for the unprotection. I have made the necessary change, which is of course temporary - until all fields are renamed to 'name'. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 18:45, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Birth/death date/age template default date settings

Greetings - you mentioned in Template talk:Birth date and age#Default setting that you have admin capacity to change the birth/death date and age templates, but needed someone to do the template code. I created a draft new version of {{Birth date and age}} in User:Dl2000/testtemp7, with the mf=yes parameter in effect. A test of the template is contained on another test page, User:Dl2000/testtemp6.

To address the concern over article disruption, would it be appropriate to announce a grace period of a week or so before making the switch? That should provide enough time to find a bot to add the mf=yes to the American-catted articles, and to allow editors to make particular tweaks. It would also allow me some time to draft the other templates and make any other required tests. Dl2000 (talk) 02:29, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

The first short word - Rec. As it is written entirely. We have found variants in Russia - Recorder, Recent. But it is certainly not true. FIPFA

You left a message to me about the FIPFA page that I submitted to Wikipedia. You said that I was trying to promote the organization. It was a smaller page than those for FIFA, USSF, NFL, NHL, etc. (all governing bodies for international and national sports). I don't understand your rationale for deleting the history, other links, etc. when all of these other Wikipedia pages are allowed to contain this type of information. Powerchair football is the first opportunity for powerchair users to participate in a competitive team sport and the more information that is available to people, the better. Powerchair football IS the first sport designed for powerchair users

In your last response to me you threatened to block me from making further entries if I used the phrase "the first - and only - competitive team sport for people with disabilities who use power wheelchairs." If you go to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center (http://www.ncpad.org/videos/fact_sheet.php?sheet=323&view=all) you will see that they use virtually the same phraseology to describe power soccer. If you google "competitive team sport for power chair" you will find a number of websites that describe the game the very same way. I'm also wondering why you're so set on blindly editing my entries and then object when I go back to either correct or replace what you've deleted? I just looked at the FIFA website and there is a LOT of information posted there - a lot more than what is/was on FIPFA's. Why don't you edit that page and shorten it considerably? Why the big discrepancy? Sincerely, Chris Mulholland Cmulholland233 (talk) 00:15, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of non-league football clubs

I am a little confused about your recent deletion edits about non-league football clubs. You appear to have prodded most of the Kent County League clubs (no problems there, although I think they deserve to be discussed individually at AfD), but not Cray Valley Paper Mills, and then Merton F.C., which was a far better article than any of them, with more content and to me appeared to assert more notability, was just speedily deleted, "just like that" using criteria A7 without any opportunity to rebut. Can you explain please? - fchd (talk) 09:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I strongly disagree with you about the SAL, I'm afraid. There is very much an assertion of notability in the Merton article with the list of honours, even if you think they are low level. The proportion of the article that is a copy-vio I would agree with you, but this could be solved by edits rather than speedy deletion. I'm going to try a DRV on this one, later this evening when I've got home and got more time to read up on the process. - fchd (talk) 11:55, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

FIPFA, et al

Appreciate your latest response. I'm new to adding entries to Wikipedia although I have been using it for years as research. Didn't mean to imply that FIPFA's site should be as large as FIFA's though I was surprised that since there wasn't particularily much written why it was cut down to just a couple of lines. Just a thought. Another question, though, why delete the references and external links to the national programs? Thanks, Chris Cmulholland233 (talk) 10:21, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Cray Valley Paper Mills (and the Leicestershire clubs)

Hi there, I see you've left Cray valley Paper Mills out of your deletion list for the KCL clubs - why - in 1997-98 (the season they spent in SSML1S - this division was sitting below the Conference, Isthmian Prem, Div One, Div Two, Div Three and the SSML Premier making it still a Step 7 club.

Even if they were in the SSML Premier - they would still need to be deleted (because all current Step 7 leagues (well those that fed the SL and NPL around the same time), were all Step 6 leagues at the time (as the regional Confs werent in place).

I'd go as far as to say that pre-regional Conferences - notability should mean clubs ought to have played in Step 5 and above (else half the step 7 clubs at the moment would be worthy of an entry as they were step 6 prior to the Regional Conferences). Then after the regional conferences - step 6 (as it is now).

But fortunately Cray Valley were one division lower so as not to make it an issue in this particular case.

Also I believe Thurmaston Town and Aylestone Park's articles should be deleted! Sarumio (talk) 11:29, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Javi Vara PROD

Hi, just had a look at Javi Varas which you PRODed. Have not yet removed the PROD pending investigation as generally other sources do not back this up, but Goal.com claim he has made 5 Liga and 1 UEFA cup appearance. He definitely played in the 2nd Russion Railways Cup but that probably fails notability scrutinisation as it is a pre-season 'friendly' tournament--ClubOranjeTalk 00:54, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Goal.Com reliable? Depends on your definition of reliable and how you wish to interpret their data. The only source that comes close to backing them up is zerozero.pt which clearly states he was an unused substitute in 5 Liga games and 1 UEFA game (against Spurs last season). Delete away - but be prepared for re-instatement if Andrés Palop gets injured. He may yet save himself from the dreaded PROD if he gets a run in their UEFA return leg tomorrow--ClubOranjeTalk 09:12, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

SuperSonicx1986 has blanked and prodded CONCACAF Champions League 2009–10 and reverted other pages 7 or 8 times now. 3 or 4 times since he received his last "last warning" about prodding the same page. It would be nice to see a mod actually do something. He's also taken to doing this as an IP number, so not all show in his edit history. I asked for page protection for this page to stop IP's editting, but was refused. Frustrating, if he'd actually discuss his objections anywhere would be nice. Lydd Town F.C.‎

For 2003-04 the Tony Kempster site doesn't show steps, it shows levels (this was before the steps were introduced) - the following season when steps were introduced, the KCL was classed as Step 7 - like the Essex Intermediate League (all of whose club's articles have been deleted) it has never been a Step 6 league (hence no-one objecting to the other ten articles being deleted earlier in the week. Can you reinstate the prod so save the hassle of an AfD? пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:41, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

  • If there was no direct promotion from the Kent County Premier league to the Kent League, I might agree with you. But there has been recently. Norton Sports F.C. was promoted last season, Holmesdale F.C was promoted after the 2006-2007 season, as was [Sevenoaks Town F.C.]] in 2002/2003. And now I've noticed that, I'm thinking that the Tyler Hill F.C. prod should go to - I'd assumed there wasn't much promotion going on. Nfitz (talk) 20:56, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
There is no promotion/relegation between the two - clubs in the KCL can apply to join the Kent League but it's not a given right - similar to the old Football League pre-1987. Anyway, that is not really the point - it's a Step 7 league and there is clear consensus that that's the cut-off point. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:00, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I thought that the clear consensus was that it would be level 10, or level 9 in pre-Conference days. This was level 9 in pre-Conference days. As such, I think this should go to AfD, not be done by prod. Nfitz (talk) 21:02, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
It wasn't really level 9 though, as shown by the fact that the season when the steps were made official by the FA, it was classed as 7 and not 6. All the Essex Olympian and KCL clubs have been deleted without issue, so I don't see why we need to drag out an AfD for a three-sentence article. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:04, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Interesting. Same status as Lydd Town. I never saw it, as it went up for AfD the day after I went on vacation for a fortnight. I hate to be a pain (really), but I'd have made the same argument there, as I am here, and I don't see that anyone else made it (in fact someone erroneously noted that it at level 11 or 12 it is below the level 10 threshold, ignoring that they had been level 10 previously, and level 9 before the Conference was added. Sorry, but let's go for AfD on this. But I'll not deprod any others pending the outcome of the AfD. Nfitz (talk) 21:22, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Can you please reconsider the deletion of Rumble 103. It is a web radio station that is a valuable contribution to wikipedia. It has many more listeners than some community and even commercial radio operations, are you saying their wikipedia entries are blatant advertising. Political parties of Israel

You make an interesting point, but I have not seen categories used in that way before. It would perhaps not be a good idea, since category entries cannot be dated. A better place to list current political parties would be at List of political parties in Israel#Current parties. --Eliyak T·C 14:53, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

That's certainly the case for Category:Political parties in the United Kingdom, and in my mind is the most sensible way of categorising them - there's no harm in articles being in several different categories, and were it not for the main category, there would be no way of seeing which ones are currently extant. пﮟოьεԻ 57 14:54, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

As I said, there is no way to date and source the inclusion of an article in a category, so there's no way to have a source say that the party is indeed current on the category page. The category also does not imply that all parties contained in it are current. Why would anyone assume that they are? And there certainly is a way to see the current parties- on the article page, where it actually says that they are current. --Eliyak T·C 14:59, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Jewish Footballers

So were just supposed to assume that they are Jewish when there are no real sources? Not to mention I read this at WP:BLP:

Category tags regarding religious beliefs and sexual orientation should not be used unless two criteria are met:

  • The subject publicly self-identifies with the belief or orientation in question;
  • The subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to the subject's notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources.

Hubschrauber729 (talk) 18:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Even when they do self identify with the beliefs he has no problem deleting it. Look at every page I have contributed on and even cited! He even blanked my comments from his own talk page. -NYC2TLV (talk) 19:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
The edit wars and 3RR rules that have been broken were too much for me. I was sorry to do this, but posted this user here: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Hubschrauber729.

In regards to Amidar/Ramat Gan. They only edited the title. Perhaps we should call the club or something because I can't find anything official on them dropping the Maccabi from their name. I am hopeful that they can clarify it on their website in the history of the club (in the time line) if they did drop Maccabi. That way it can be cited. -NYC2TLV (talk) 20:58, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Why is there no need for a profile from a Palestinian website? Seems relevant, considering Meretz-Yachad is regarded as the most "pro-peace" Zionist political party in the Israeli Knesset. If you have problems with the content of the page linked to, please raise your concern, but simply saying 'there is no need' is not enough to merit deleting a link that users on Wikipedia may find useful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosemary82 (talkcontribs) 15:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

The Gil Pensioners Party has a very limited ideological agenda, and the fact that its leader is wanted in the largest US-Israel spy case in history seems relevant to me. This is not proof of bias. These are relevant links that are timely and useful to Wikipedia users. I will continue to defend their right to be present on Wikipedia. You obviously have your own bias, and cannot provide any justifiable reason for removing these links to factual and relevant information.

Best, Rosemary —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosemary82 (talkcontribs) 16:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

And of course info on Israeli topics from a Palestinian perspective is important and relevant! The Israeli gov't has ultimate control over the lives and fate of persons living in the occupied territories. The political parties in power in Israel have an enormous amount of influence over the situation in the Palestinian territories. Many people searching for information on Israeli political parties on Wikipedia are looking for information related to the peace process with the Palestinians. Therefore, these links are extremely relevant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosemary82 (talkcontribs) 16:59, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Curiously, you didn't feel compelled to remove a link to an OPINION article from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Hmmmmmm... talking of bias???? Final warning to you, if you remove links without justification again, I am reporting you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosemary82 (talkcontribs) 15:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I would definitely considering removing valid links for political reasons vandalism. You still have not provided any justification for your removals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosemary82 (talkcontribs) 15:21, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

errrgggh... given that your original argument was that the links i posted were bias, now changing your argument to the nationality of the source doesn't make much sense. Choose one or the other - both are invalid excuses, so stop prevented Wikipedia users from having access to useful resources! Tzipi Livni is the most powerful personal in Israel. A Palestinian perspective on her vision of the peace process is highly relevant. Dispute all you want, you are censoring unfairly, and harming the freedom of information on Wikipedia. Shame on you!

well you guys have a quite a little team. I'm not afraid of you, I'm not doing anything wrong or inappropriate, and all of you are acting beyond your rights. Stop it, or you will all be reported.

Hi. I just saw this article you've created. The last paragraph refers to a man named Amsalem, and so does the Knesset link. This looks like a mistake. Cheers, -- Nudve (talk) 15:06, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Korcan Çelikay issue

Hello,

I really can not get why this article is deleted two times, despite the claims are false. I tried to explain at the discussion page that he played pro and senior football last season whlist his loan-out time at Tepecik Belediyespor in the re-created version of the article. He is now the third keeper at his team squad and has either a decent chance to play this year or to join an other professional Süper Lig team next season! What if he begins to play as the line-up keeper of any other side, then? Please, consider this...

I will not insist on this topic anymore. I try to be sensible and act in accordance with Wikipedia principles which tells to explain what is required due to encyclopaedic exigence.

Best regards,

--Umi1903 (talk) 09:53, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Salut,
I see your concerning but i'd like to clear a point that TFF Third League is a professional league. For further info of Turkish league pyramid, please see Turkish football league system. Additionally, TFF define and underline here that Third league is a pro level league (the document is in Turkish), however it can be found the word of "profesyonel" (professional in Turkish language) in ease.
Cheers,
--Umi1903 (talk) 10:17, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
As much as i am concerned with football in Turkey, as i consulted some pundits of football such as sports columnists or sports-related web page owners, TFF 3rd League is a professional league in terms of Italian and British system (like you mentioned). However, i will keep on searching and try to find more explicit explanations to clear the topic. Thanks for sharing your time. --Umi1903 (talk) 10:46, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

The script seems to correct the template-driven date formats in infoboxes, and some of those templates have recently been "delinked" globally, in response to the recent deprecation of date autoformatting. If you're interested in running the script, please let me know. If you want to dump titles of articles that need their format choice/inconsistency fixed, and/or delinked, there's this. Talk:Flag of Ireland

Hi, I notice that you moved the article from Flag of Ireland to Flag of the Republic of Ireland citing that a consensus existed. Can you please explain your reasoning as it appears there was no consensus the first time, and there is now a row brewing on the Talk page with another Move request. Thank you. --HighKing (talk) 10:13, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Michael McGowan (Scottish footballer)

Hi there.

Can you please explain why this page has been deleted? I attempted to follow all Wiki rules and all info provided was true and accurate.

Is it possible that you thought there was a duplication? There are two Michael McGowans who play football in Scotland - the page that I created is not a duplicate.

I look forward to your reply.

Alex.

Hi. I've noticed you've been changing dates on articles I've created from month day to day month. The most recent one is Moshe Landau. Is this a problem? WP:DATE says it's OK, and since I'm used to it, it could create inconsistency. I could try and convert in the future, if needed. Is it? Cheers, Nudve (talk) 16:02, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: New elections article

Hi again! Funny name you chose for the article :) but I'll make sure to watch it. It should indeed be a hot topic. You wouldn't believe how relieved I and thousands more Israelis were at the announcement that Kadima wasn't able to form a government (I bet just as many were angry though). Hi there, I moved the article to 2009 Israeli legislative election. Replacing Next with "2009" is more encyclopedic and specific. I figured that the article will require 'renaming' anyway, as the 2009 elections won't be pending forever! --Flewis(talk) 12:47, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Number 57,

In this edit:

you added this :

"Neot Mordechai is the home of Teva Sport Sandals," which is WRONG!! Teva Sport Sandals linked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teva_Sport_Sandals is based in the USA and has nothing to do with tevanaot.co.il.. also please remove the reference to "Teva Sport Sandals" in the link below.

Thanks.

Glyndwr Hughes

Good morning mate. I noticed the PROD you placed on Glyndwr Hughes - I'm not planning on contesting this at the moment because he obviously fails WP:ATHLETE as you rightly stated. In your opinion though, would his media appearances (and on particular on Sgorio and Planed Plant, which are both pretty popular programmes here) and news articles such as this (sorry, it's in Welsh!) mean he passes WP:N? Bettia (rawr!) 10:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Ah yes, good point. According to Sgorio's official site, he's not currently on the list of presenters, so it looks like it's definitely safe to leave the PROD on there. Cheers, Bettia (rawr!) 10:49, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi again! I am slowly going through over 100 users who !voted on the RfA posting notes, and finally I reached someone who worked with me before! Ha! Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence and hope to be just fine. You just scared me away from Ireland–Britian-related articles ;) After I'm done with the personal notes, I'll continue with working on the WikiProject. I have a lot of ideas and believe you will agree with them! Will post them tomorrow or something. Also I've been trying to format the 76 city articles in the last few days, especially the references. You are welcome to join me in this task if you have time! Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 22:23, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Pushpin maps

Hi Number 57! Please consider using the regional pushpin maps I made for Israel :) currently there is 'Israel north haifa' and 'Israel center ta' (no south/Jerusalem/Ayosh districts yet). See for example the version used in Hoshaya. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:40, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I will add that to the documentation sometime soon. In any case, the coordinates for the North/Haifa one match perfectly (tested at least once with all those cities). Not sure how it appears below for you, but try to blow up the image to 500px (just click preview) and seeing if the dot on the map and the pushpin red dot match. However, on the Center/TA map there may be a very slight error, but I haven't been able to locate it yet, so it needs more testing after the cities are tagged. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 23:21, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Stephen Darby (footballer)

I note that you have deleted this article three times on the basis of it being the subject of discussion in an AFD and duly being deleted. It seemed to have been deleted on the basis that he had not played professional football when in fact he has done for some time and is now the captain of Liverpool FC reserves and is highly rated enough to now have a first team squad number. Liverpool FC do not have amateurs in their reserves! Regards Paste (talk) 12:16, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Can this article be put back? It says in the log that they're not notable enough, but they've been in the press quite a bit. Here's a link about them:

Deletion of articles

I would like to know why you have deleted articles i have created, i am referring to the deletion of pages on several football players of Rugby Town F.C.. i realise you may not think they meet notability guidelines but why does that mean they have to automatically deleted. notability is obviously a contentious issue, but i know i am not alone in saying that you have know right to make the decsion on whether an article is deleted or not, i mean, what makes anything you create more notable. surely if a page on wikipedia is related to something that interests even just 1 person then it shouldn't be deleted. my case is not the severist of cases of things you have deleted - you have deleted entire football teams pages (i.e. Merton fc as well as other cases) - but i believe that articles on this level of football souldn't be delted partly due to the fact that websites on such teams are often not that extensive and so wikipedia could help to act as a source of information for followers of that level of football. Rugby Town are in the same tier that teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton FC who are know top teams, im not saying Rugby town will get to the same level, but surely the players that helped Tottenham and southampton higher up the leagues are notable and so should be current players from that league

Tornados FC

Number_57,

Can you give me more information on why you have removed this page? Other clubs in the non-;league structure (infact a large amount) have pages on Wikipedia, so I am unsure why you would remove this one.

Is it simply because we are a new club who are creating our history rather than having any to list.

Or is it that we are not considered to be playing high enough in the non-league structure? If it is this I would like to draw your attention to:

Stonewall F.C. Southall F.C. CB Hounslow United F.C. North Greenford United F.C. Brantham Athletic F.C.

As the quality of these sites differ drastically (our site was certainly better than some of these). Also the standard that some of these play at is on par with our league so again I do not understand your reasoning? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andy9596 (talkcontribs) 14:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm a little confused over your move of the page move you performed earlier today. The article should be at FK Crvena Zvezda, but even if you must translate it into English, their website "www.fc-redstar.net" proclaims "FC Red Star Belgrade Website", so surely the article should now be moved to "FC Red Star Belgrade". - fchd (talk) 18:20, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

No, no more details - its all very vague at the moment - it will be more of an umbrella group, led by Meretz, and including other very small parties - possibly Meimad, and a new Green Party (not the main one) - I guess it will be similar to the old Democratic Movement for Change which was formed around a core of the Shinui party, but attracted lots of others to it. Hopefully it'll do well - in any sane country Meretz would probably be the ruling party! пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:46, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully it'll be more successful, yeah... I absolutely agree with you, but as I'm from Austria, I wouldn't really know how people in sane countries vote. sighs Anyway, could you be so kind as to let me know when there are any further developments with NU-NRP, the new left party or anything else? Oshri Roash

I figured you're the one to ask this, since you're involved in football and/or Israel related articles. This article (I don't even remember how I ended up watching it) has just been prodded, saying he has not played a in a professional league. AFAIK, Liga Leumit is professional, but perhaps not professional enough to meet the guidelines. What do you think? -- Nudve (talk) 07:07, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I thought "professional" meant that the players get full salary from their clubs and are not employed elsewhere. I'm not completely sure if this is the case here. Anyway, if matches' attendance is the criterion, then Liga Leumit players probably fail WP:ATHLETE. Thanks, Nudve (talk) 10:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
A quick Hebrew Google search got this report, saying that the purpose of expanding Liga Leumit next season is to have two professional leagues and cancel the Liga Artzit. I'm not sure if it'll work, and even less sure what this means for Wikipedia policy. Anyway, I hope you don't think it's some sort of a campaign to save an article from deletion. I have no sentiments for this article or similar ones. If you think it should be deleted, I'm fine with that :) Cheers, Nudve (talk) 11:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Good riddance, how dare you remove my page on Stuart McIntyre with no good reason Hoppytroffy (talk) 06:47, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Sad To See You Leave

I've not had too much contact with you, but I like to keep up-to-date with AFDs, and you seem to be one of the major contributors, always fully researching pages, before nominating them, and remaining cool-headed, even when others disagree. Yes, AFD has suffered from sysops choosing to ignore the idea that Wikipedia is not a democracy, and relying purely on 'votes', but that's something that can be changed.

POV-pushing is indeed a large problem, and could quite possibly be an error in the very structure of Wikipedia, but is not something that cannot necessarily be remedied. Neutral, sane, editors such as yourself quitting will not help the situation, it can piss people off, but you can't let that get to you.

Hope you change your mind. - RD (Talk) 14:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Don't leave!

Dear Number 57, at least if you're going to leave, please list for us these 20 editors who are gaming the system and damaging many (or in some cases, all) the articles they touch. This would help the rest of us considerably.

Meanwhile, I'm sorry to say that your reversion here is, shall we say, controversial. I'm pretty sure that the source for this quote is pretty nearly completely non-RS. And the statement itself is "surprising" indeed, apparently bearing no relation to what Fischer has said in better recorded circumstances. I'm pretty sure only the very, very extreme edge of the partisan commentators have gone as far as it's alleged that he has done. There's been a "battle" to remove the allegation that Fischer is a former terrorist, now it flares again over this really silly quote from him. Please reconsider. PRtalk 20:23, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

TBH I've never heard any criticism of the Wiesenthal Center regarding a bias before - it's certainly no CAMERA or MEMRI, and is often cited by the BBC (which, if anything, has an anti-Israel bias) - and I'm happy that it is actually a reliable source. пﮟოьεԻ 57 23:09, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
The BBC's own 2006 published assessment admits to bias in the summary "there are identifiable shortcomings, particularly in respect of gaps in coverage, analysis, context and perspective". It doesn't say which way it leans, you have to go to section 4.7, where you will find that every indication of bias is pro-Israel. By no indicator (eg imbalances as regards spokesmen used and coverage of deaths) is it pro-Palestinian.
Perhaps most damagingly for a world-ranking news source: "Third party positions either from the Middle East or from the rest of the world were marginalised in comparison to the presentation of UK and US perspectives; - that some important themes were relatively overlooked in the coverage of the conflict, most notably in the recent period, the annexation of land in and around East Jerusalem;"
Note that the BBC invited contributions and found that: "Pressure group activity could be seen in the number of identical letters or parts of letters. A large number of pro-Israel supporters emailed from the United States, often with the same complaint, on the same date and/or from the same state. ... Not too much can be made of this, but more people thought the BBC was anti-Israel. However, if the emails and letters which could be identified as coming from abroad are excluded, the opposite is true: more people thought the BBC anti-Palestinian or pro-Israel." All are very welcome to examine this report and tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm disappointed that you're still defending the Wiesenthal Centre (and it's use for such a very, very "surprising" claim about an ex-foreign minister of Germany) even after this mention of it being "a gang of heartless and immoral crooks". (One small error, I wrongly implied that this exact phrase was in a particular book, in fact it's used by the author of that book in an interview). PRtalk 11:50, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Number 57, I hope that you are enjoying you discussion with PalestineRemembered. Unfortumatly for the Anti-Zionism article, PalestineRemembered apparently believes that any content contrary to his POV is also contrary to WP policy. I hope that you put the article on your watch list, and at least keep track to it, even if you choose not to participate in the editing. Malcolm Schosha (talk) 13:19, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Further very serious problems with anything coming from the Wiesenthal Centre can be found by comparing their statement "Networking to destroy Israel" published by the Jerusalem Post (mirrored here) and compare it with the statement of Cecilie Surasky here. The "Jews for Peace" representative writes: "After I return home, the Wiesenthal Center publishes an alarming piece entitled "Networking to Destroy Israel" in the Jerusalem Post. ... so riddled with errors--I am misquoted, JVP is described as "campus-based", all of my colleagues are given the wrong attributions, and quoted either inaccurately or out of context--that it is pointless to list them all. It contains bits of truth but strings together isolated statements to make them sound like a tidal wave of hatred"
There are many more such problems - some of them amounting to scandals. "President Mary McAleese [of Ireland] has strongly criticised the Simon Wiesenthal Center for allegations it made linking the Hunt family and their Limerick museum with the Nazi party in Germany" for which there seems to be no evidence.[34] The scandal of who did what for the Nazis needn't be discussed, since Simon Wiesenthal himself has nothing to do with the Centre (though he apparently still charges them $90,000 a year to use his name!).
And of course, in this particular case, we're using a quote from Joschka Fischer "anti-Zionism inevitably leads to antisemitism" which is clearly not what he's known to have said on other occasions and doesn't appear in any RS. PRtalk 15:51, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Proposed Move to Ireland (island)

RE Proposed Move. As an admin, aren't you worried that the situation has 1) become ludicrously against policy (we now have two fully-fledged and separately linked-to Irish state articles) 2) a situation where the editing warring and general strife simply has to come to an end? We have a serial link-piping puppermaster nearly on number 30, huge discomfort and hostility everywhere. The time people have put into sorting this out has been extraordinary. The Irish articles are floundering and in a mess. You are not the first person to say this current situation is "having it right" (although a number of opposers have there own pet solutions), but you are the first administrator to say the current situation is best at this stage. 99% of people at the cross-supported Ireland disambiguation taskforce admit that some change has to happen. Isn't there any alternative you would accept? As you are an admin, and this is a such a policy-loaded matter, I simply have to ask you this. --Matt Lewis (talk) 23:15, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Slovak border crossings, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Slovak border crossings has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

Village pump (policy)

Number 57, I have raised an issue on the Village pump (policy) [35] which I think relates to some important issues you discuss on your user page [36], and if you have any thoughts on the subject it might be helpful. It may be hopeless, but it would be great to develop new approaches to dealing with this problem. Malcolm Schosha (talk) 14:17, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Hummus

Thank you for your recent, bold, edit to Hummus. I've grown tired of trying to argue against the inclusion of POV-pushing material that, IMHO, is added to the article under the guise of "scholarship". --Nsaum75 (talk) 09:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

And for the alternate perspective, what the hell? There is a huge discussion on the talk page, covering a number of reliable sources on the subject, and at least three editors participating in that discussion and editing the article, who believe that such information is relevant and appropriate to the article. Do you mind participating yourself, before twice reverting to delete things others worked hard to include? Thanks. Tiamuttalk 16:44, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

S orry Tiamut, but you reinserting that material into the Hummus article has pretty much rid me of any respect or GF that I had for your editing. You know full well that the material is being used to turn an article about a foodstuff into an attack article, and I'm quite shocked that you are willing to play along with it. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:43, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

It would appear that (bizarre though it may seem) politicised Hummus is indeed part of the landscape. I would have supposed that, if there is much mention of this in modern sources, then some reference belongs.
But meanwhile, edits and edit summaries such as this: (Last time I checked my atlas, there was no such place as Palestine. There are however some Palestinian territories) looks to me exactly like ethnic baiting. Fortunately I'm reminded who it comes from and I accept you'd not have meant that. PRtalk 16:05, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I've already written to you on your talk page about your wholesale deletion of this reliably sourced material which three editors have voiced support for including on the talk page. If you lose good faith towards me simply because you disagree with my position (and that of two other editors) there could not have been much there to begin with. I'm quite shocked that you would unilaterally impose your own view onto a page without engaging in any form of discussion. And you accuse me of bad judgement? Please. There are right ways and wrong ways to approach a disagreement over content. You just exemplified the latter. Tiamuttalk 16:47, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I have reported you for violating 3RR for your edit to Hummus. The link to the entry is here. I'm sorry it had to come to this, but you did not heed my request to engage in discussion, and continued to replace Palestine with Palestinian territories, four times. Tiamuttalk 10:42, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

3RR at Hummus

Please see here. But for the inequality of only blocking one of the parties in this edit war, you would be facing a lengthy block for your part in this exceedingly lame edit war. I expect admins to behave better then you have and you surely must have known that the discretionary sanctions were available to control this problem. Next time keep your cool because the alternative will be a decent sized block. Shame on you. Spartaz Humbug! 13:19, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Anti-Zionism

TBH I've never heard any criticism of the Wiesenthal Center regarding a bias before - it's certainly no CAMERA or MEMRI, and is often cited by the BBC (which, if anything, has an anti-Israel bias) - and I'm happy that it is actually a reliable source. пﮟოьεԻ 57 23:09, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm surprised you've not heard of this before, and pleased to have introduced you to something new. Perhaps as the information I gave you sinks in, you'll come to better appreciate what it means regarding using the SWC as an RS. The alleged quote from Joscha Fischer is plainly false, since the Jerusalem Post tells us that the delegation was worked on to get this result, and they failed to do so. "What emerged from this conference was an admission by European leaders themselves that not all criticism of Israel is legitimate. This recognition was evident in the remarks of President Romano Prodi, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and other officials." The SWC insists that, afterwards, in a private hearing with them, Fischer said "anti-Zionism inevitably leads to antisemitism" - no RS picks up on it. That's on top of the other background.
Regarding the BBC again, thinking it's "anti-Israeli" is a bit laughable, and would be even if you'd not seen the report in which the imbalances in favour of Israel are detailed (see section 4.7), but they claim it is not deliberate. This web story is head-lined with an outright propaganda claim they've picked up from Israel. We know that they're wrong in what they say because, rather remarkably, the original report the BBC claims to be quoting is available to us. Needless to say, the BBC refuses to correct the story. France 2 is still being hounded 8 years later for an entirely understandable "miatake" (if that's what it was) over Muhammed al-Durrah - the BBC clearly believes it can arrogantly ignore even valid complaints of proven error! Ridiculous

Your deletion of the Fabio da Silva article is the most ridiculously overbroad use of G4 that I have ever seen, and I have undone it. He is listed on the first team of the European Champions. That is an assertion of importance by any measure, and clearly overcomes the objections of the AfD, which was based on his "not being a professional footballer." He is currently deriving a paycheck by playing football for Manchester United. That is a professional footballer. The reason for deletion no longer valid, and G4 no longer applies. Please do not be silly. Phil Sandifer (talk) 01:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

No, he wasn't - the transfers were not finalized until the summer window due to work permit issues. Neither of the Da Silvas were eligible to play until August. Hence it was in August that he clearly became a professional football player. His status has indisputably changed since the previous AfD, and your repeated wheel-warring deletions are querrelous and actionable. I encourage you to reverse your own action, and hope that this shockingly poor conduct of is not the norm for your administrative actions. Phil Sandifer (talk) 02:17, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
WP:ATHLETE makes no effort to define the borderline between "trains with, collects a paycheck from, and has appeared on the bench for a professional team" and "is a professional athlete." It is simply untrue to assert that WP:ATHLETE "clearly" speaks on an article of this nature. Furthermore, this does not excuse the fact that your re-deletion is a flagrant case of adminisrative wheel warring. Your conduct here is a violation of multiple policies - at this point, CSD, ATHLETE, and WHEELWAR. Phil Sandifer (talk) 02:28, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I disagree with your definition of competed - if he is listed on the first team of the squad and has a shirt number, he is a part of the team, and the team competes as one, not as a collection of individuals. In any case, this is not a "clear" application of WP:ATHLETE, and your insistence that it is amounts to an attempt to steamroll discussion. Furthermore, you have yet to address the issue of your wheel warring, which is by far the most serious policy issue, being the one for which administrative privledges are routinely stripped. Please reverse your action before I am forced to bring the issue to WP:ANI. Phil Sandifer (talk) 02:35, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Israeli legislative election, 2009#Right Wing Block and Left wing Block

--85.250.243.74 (talk) 16:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

If a right wing party like shas or UTJ (both orthodox religious right) sees that the left block has already got a majority, like in this Knesset they have 63 (out 120) without "Shas" or "UTJ" - they might as well join the coalition government, not because they like it, but because the left already has a majority without them, and in order to balance the left block from going far left as well as preserving their budget interests.

Or right after elections, should the left block have something close to a majority like 57-59, and the rightwing block has like 40 (and the rest are non-affiliate), and the right wing block can never form a majority coalition government in the Knesset, and since elections were already held, they will give the left block the last majority vote and keep them away from going far-left.

Only should it be their "second choice", should parties like "Shas" and "UTJ" (orthodox religious right) would join the left-wing block. Otherwise, they work to support right-wing block.

Non-affiliate: All kind of One-subject parties, like "Green Party", or "Gil" (elderly people) is considered a left wing subject. However, a right or left in Israeli politics, is being determined on the way you think about the negotiations with neighboring Arab states and other such matters, which will eventually lead to the way you choose to side with in the Knesset - which all those "one subject parties" usually don't emphasize in their election season, and eventually on the "negotiating with the Arabs" subjects each of their member vote his own mind, and only on "Green" and "Elderly" subjects, do they vote together.

Co-ordinate precision

Please be careful about being overly precise about co-ordinates. For example, specifying the position of Cuckoo Tye to five decimal places means you are to approximately 60cm, whereas a hamlet covers a wider area. Perhaps three decimal places, 60m, is more than accurate enough. "A general rule is to give precisions approximately one tenth the size of the object", thanks. Henrik Larsson infobox issues

Hi,

Got any browser details so that I can help track down the issue you tried to fix here? These lines should already be prevented from wrapping by the labelstyle attributes applied to those fields. If there are issues on certain browsers it might be possible to work around them more elegantly. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 23:02, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

I can't test in IE right now, so I'm reliant on others to work with me on changes. Firstly, those lines (should) already include the nowrap CSS attribute, so adding it twice is redundant. Secondly, this breaks the conditionals - even with no attributes defined some rows were being created with nothing in them but a {{nowrap}}. This isn't right. I've attempted to fix this properly now by adding even more instances of "white-space: nowrap" to the label styles - some of these are definitely redundant, but I'll work on removing the excess ones once the fix is confirmed. Can you check to see if this is still a problem? If not, I'd appreciate a simplified test case and screenshot on the template talk. Please don't just revert - this affects only a limited set of articles, precisely because it needs exposure in order to be comprehensively tested, and the more hacks that are added the more difficult it will be to maintain the thing in the future. New Zealand national rugby union team

Hey man, I dunno if you've been keeping tabs on this article, but since you moved it from All Blacks, I think I ought to tell you that it's caused quite a stir on the article's talk page. Cheers. – PeeJay 17:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I just want to know if you can easily justify the decision to move it. Let's look at your closing statement.

The result was move to New Zealand national rugby union team for reasons of consistency of naming format (i.e. why use the nickname for one team but not others). Note that the !votes from this discussion were also considered. Regarding the Wikipedia:Naming conventions#All Blacks section, this was added by a single editor seemingly without discussion back in June 2007.

First off, consistency isn't a current Wikipedia policy or guidelines, so if you think it's unfair that one team has a nickname whereas others don't, that isn't the point. When naming articles it should be WP:COMMONAME so the debate is really whether the team is known more commonly as All Blacks or New Zealand. Secondly there is no naming convention for national sports teams anyway as far as I can see policy wise so that's not justifiable. Third you stated you considered votes from the Rugby Project page, where does it say that votes from related WikiProjects need to be considered when moving a page, I would have thought the priority was votes/consensus solely on the Talk page of the article being moved because it says on the Requested Move Banner: Discussion to support or oppose the move should be on this talk page, usually under the heading "Requested move". If, after a few days, a clear consensus for the page move is reached, please move the article and remove this notice, or request further assistance. And even if the related projects votes are to be taken into consideration, votes should be solely done on the basis of naming convention policy, look at why they are voting for support, it's consistency (not a policy or part of naming convention policy) once more not for the common name which it is meant to be. Again like it says a clear consensus would have needed to be reached on the talk page, I can see on that straw poll 5 support, 4 oppose, how is that a clear consensus? And if you think it is, why did the 5 supporting have far more weight with you than the four who opposed? And last of all that bit about the person who added the section on the All Blacks in the naming conventions, how is that adding more consensus to move it to New Zealand national rugby union team? Do you believe because people read that, that was the only reason they justified keeping the page at All Blacks? The fact that is neglected is the person added to it on 30 June 2007, I'm not even sure too many people would have read that by the way, but 5 days earlier, the All Blacks article had made it onto the Main Page as the day's featured article 25 June 2007. It had been at All Blacks since 2002 as well and other proposals to move it during that time had been rejected and it obviously got promoted to Good Article and then Featured Article while still being named All Blacks. I'm actually surprised more people aren't questioning the move, the move as I have illustrated had breached quite a lot of policies and had other pages been moved in similar ways, I can only imagine the uproar. CullenNZ (talk) 04:34, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually you don't need to worry about replying, I'm not too sure if you were going to anyway but another admin has approved susbsequent moves of pages featuring All Blacks in the title, seems now consistency takes more precedence over WP:COMMONAME in the naming articles procedure. Regards CullenNZ (talk) 01:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

"Sponsored names" for English Football Club ground names

Hi,

You recently changed an edit of mine from the Lamex Stadium to the Broadhall Way as the stadium name of Stevenage Borough F.C. and I personally have no objections to this but to be honest if you're going to do this for small time clubs, then perhaps you should also be doing this for the larger clubs, for example Arsenal F.C. which has its stadium name labelled as The Emirates Stadium. And please don't say that that is their stadium name because the same is true for the Lamex Stadium at Stevenage Borough.

Thanks,

--Lpeters001 (talk) 23:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. After just looking into the Emirates Stadium matter, it was named after the road it was situated on and was changed to the Emirates Stadium as a result of a 15 year agreement. I've changed the stadium name based on this information. Once again, thanks for getting back so fast.

Ok, I see your point but I have a compromise, get the six parties who in ascending order based on the current Knesset as they are important and key for who will form the coalition government as no party could govern on their own.Rizalninoynapoleon (talk) 11:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Then could would we put the election template with likud, kadima, labor and Yisraeli Betainiu. To be fair, I mean here they are the key parties for the elections Rizalninoynapoleon (talk) 11:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Allow me to jump in here. First, we can tell, roughly, who the top six will be, so that will not be an issue. Even if there's a surprise, that doesn't change the fact that the proportions in the Knesset are almost certain to be relatively stable; there could be a small surprise in the sixth-place spot, or in the arrangement of places among the top six (e.g. Kadima edging out Likud is a possibility) but that would hardly be an embarrassment to Wikipedia, or an expression of POV given the support of polls. Second, let's observe other elections, shall we? For the 2008 US presidential election, there are only two candidates listed, even though there were about seven official candidates nationwide. Why? Because everyone knows ahead of time that only the candidates of the Democratic and Republican parties have any shot at winning. Similarly, in French legislative election, 2007, only three parties are listed, even though there were many other parties with representation in Parliament and only two of them (Fillon and Hollande) had even the remotest chance at becoming Prime Minister. The polls today support that Likud, Kadima, and Labor are the three parties with the highest representation, with Likud and Kadima being the only ones with a real shot at forming a government. So c'mon already. Lockesdonkey (talk) 16:05, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I have to concur, yes. —Nightstallion 23:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

infobox Election

Fine do whatever you want but i want to show a better wikipedia page and i just need help but since you keep on removing it then i wont take action anymore. At least put a blank infobox but dont show it until the final results come in. And stop saying it is useless, Showing some of the parties is not POV look at the Hong Kong elections, it showed the top six parties based on the popular vote. Good evening. Re: Likud

I commented on the issue. In short: what really decides is reliable sources, not opinion (but read the full comment anyway!). Now that I think about it, too much valuable time is being spent on fighting over which political party has which general ideology. I think that the same time should be used to significantly expand and source the 'platform'/'ideology' sections of each party, so that each reader can judge for themselves. Vandalism

In this edit summary, you labeled a revert as "rvv" - reverting vandalism. The edit you reverted is most certainly NOT vandalism, by any stretch of the imagination. This is a content dispute between you and several other editors, but the fact that you disagree with their opinions does not make their edits "vandalism", and more tan your own edits undoing theirs are "vandalism". Please don't do it again. NoCal100 (talk) 00:58, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Your recent edit to Amir Peretz

I see that yesterday (24th of February), you did this edit to Amir Peretz, which included changing the name of the party in 2 places from "Labour" to "Labor". According to the Manual of Style, this word should be spelled the ay it is in most of the article - and "Labour" is clearly the dominant spelling here. Any reason why you changed this? עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 07:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Basically because that's where the article is located, i.e. Israeli Labor Party. Believe me, it pains me to use American spelling, but sadly that seems to be the common way now in Israel... пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:06, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
To the best of my understanding, the name of the article about the party is irrelevant here. What does matter (please note that I'm American) is that the American spelling was (immediately before your edit) used three in the text of the article (one of them being in the succession box and one in the {{Current MKs}} template), while the British spelling was used 30 times (including the infobox at the top, excluding the table of contents). In my opinion, this means we should be changing the spelling from American to British, not the other way around. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:12, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. Have to say that I disagree - if an article about an entity is at a certain location spelling-wise, the spelling of the link should be consistent. I have no problem with using American spelling for something in an article where the rest of the spelling is British. This also appears to be the standard at the BBC, who refer to the Australian Labor Party using that spelling, rather than Labour (see here). пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:34, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
It's also not the case that Israeli politician articles always use the American spelling. See, for example, that Dan Meridor is listed as having belonged to Centre Party. The title of that party's article also is the British spelling, and that article also uses the british spelling (including at least one reference to the "Labour" party). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but AFAIK the Centre Party had no website to determine which spelling it used. Labor on the other hand definitely use the American. There is a lot of inconsistency with the spellings, but I am slowly trying to standardise the ILP one at least. пﮟოьεԻ 57 09:39, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
To the best of my understanding of MOS, what matters here is the local spelling used; or, when that isn't applicable, the spelling used in general in the article. In the case of Israel, I don't think there is a general standard spelling. I also don't think that the article title is relevant here, even where we link to it - there are links which use the word "colour" and link to color. (By the way, please answer here - that way the discussion doesn't get fragmented. When I'm having a discussion somewhere, I always keep an eye on the location of the discussion.) עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:ICONDECORATION

Hi there. It's not excessive for one template; but more than 200 using flaglinks is excessive. Especially, if there are more than one template for an article. IMHO this guideline is clear: it should not be used exclusily for decoration, which in this case—eletion template—is. You should think to change all election templates, in particular for disabled persons it is not good to use flagicons as links. Greetings -- Sebastian scha. (talk) 15:38, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the flagicons, they are legitimately used on election templates to differentiate templates of different countries when used on the same page, and as such are the standard for all those templates.
In addition, the whole flagicon thing is almost entirely down to just two users, only one of which continues with the crusade. I'm not for overlooking wiki policy, but if there's any one that deserves ignoring because it doesn't reflect mainstream consensus, it's this one. пﮟოьεԻ 57 15:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I like the guideline be bold and ignore all rules too, but/and icondecoration is a simple guideline, don't use flags to decorate. That's what these election templates are doing. It's only my opinion, that everybody should consider to stay in the regulations, these guideline give. If you don't agree with it change it, simple as nothing. If you and others (two, more or how many?) want to decorate your templates, it's not my case. I see your point if more than one election template is used, but IMHO everybody should be able to read the names of states or cities.
Back to business: I've reverted once but will not revert any more. My opinion and point of view regarding this is clear: I don't want this icon template, so I will not use it, or create more election templates. My way to go away *smile* Greetings and happy editing -- Sebastian scha. (talk) 16:20, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry but to claim my reverts as blind reverts is near uncivil and no statement an admin should use. -- Sebastian scha. (talk) 16:34, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but they appeared to be blind reverts, as they removed useful changes other than adding the flagicon (e.g. linking to an existing article on politics).[40] Apologies if you also meant to reinstate the redlink. пﮟოьεԻ 57 16:53, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes. State elections in ... could be an interesting article summarising the history, candidates qualifications, lenght of legislative period, difference between state, federal, and local elections and turnouts—on my first thought. But nevermind, it can redirect to politics or else, and a redirect can always written into an article. Apologies are not needed, cause only at the first sight of my watchlist I was offended. And hot on my keyboard, so I apologise, I assumed bad faith. Sorry. Have a nice day. -- Sebastian scha. (talk) 17:14, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

"Elections" in Soviet Union

I notice you have been adding the Soviet-era "elections" into election lists for Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. This is a bad idea.

Considerable literature exists about the sham nature of "elections" in Soviet Union. There have been cases where results of such elections have been accidentally published in advance -- before the ballots were even cast. There have been numerous cases of candidate tampering. And naturally, dissidents were never allowed to run.

Accordingly, I have reverted. Soviet elections should not be listed alongside real elections -- mixing up real elections and sham elections would do discredit to Wikipedia. ΔιγουρενΕμπρος! 16:23, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Elections are events that are tied to the constitution of a particular state. The constitutions of the Russian Federation and the Soviet Union are different. The laws are different and the way the elections where held are different. You can't just lump them together just because they happen to share the same term "election", this is unencyclopedic. Martintg (talk) 20:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
As this template is within the scope of WP:RUSSIA, I have raised the issue at WT:RUSSIA. I agree that they should be included, but first and foremost we need to gain consensus based upon needs of the project as a whole; please try to avoid edit-warring No.57, and this goes to other editors also. --Russavia Dialogue 05:39, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
    • It would seem a lot of this could be avoided by using the "group" feature in the template (i.e. list1=, group1=, list2=, group2=), so as to have the two sets of elections completely separate yet in the same template. No opinion on the material issues, although I can see the point of those objecting and believe the right answer will ultimately be some kind of compromise that takes that point on board. Elections

57:

Please do not reinsert pre-1916 elections in the Argentine elections template. No data is available on them and they were of a perfunctory nature. Attempting to create articles on them would only leave a bunch of empty stubs. Anyone interested in the period would be better served by going into articles on the presidents from the 1853-1916 era, themselves.

I'm about the only one who maintains these old Argentine election articles, so if there were anything to be said on pre-1916 elections - trust me, I'd put up the articles.

You recently deleted an entry I wrote about Mouli Cohen, citing "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion." At the time of the article's submission, I believed the Cohen entry was in compliance with Wikipedia standards. However, in considering the designation you gave it upon deletion, I can now see how the article could be construed as overly promotional.

I am revising the Cohen article and would like to submit a new version shortly. Could we briefly discuss what edits are necessary so as to avoid another deletion? Cohen is an entrepreneur of note who, like his peer Andrew Grove, fully warrants a Wikipedia article.

Just as an FYI, I completely disagreed with your deleting this article. The CSD criteria for A7 does not require that the article meets WP:N or WP:RS, but rather that the article makes a claim to importance/significance. The article doesn't even have to provide sources to substantiate the claim. This article did. It also clearly defined rationale as to why the article is notable. Not only that, but prior to your deleting the article, the speedy deletion request had been declined by another admin. For those reason, I went ahead and restored this article. Make sure that the player meets the requirements for WP:N/WP:ATHLETE. As long as the article is not essentially the same as the one 57 deleted and makes a claim to importance/signficance, then it'll should be OK. That should protect it from CSD, if it doesn't meet N/BIO/ATHLETE, it might be sent to AFD.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 13:59, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
