Dear Mr. Lefty, it was Todd's only dream in life to get a spot on Wikipedia. How hard would it be to let his page slide by this once. I promised him I would get him on here and guess what I did but for like 15 seconds and then you go and take him off.. how does that make you feel? -Mobyjones

WP:UW future? edit

Hi Mr. Lefty,

Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace templates. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. Norman Pilcher {{prod}} edit

You removed the {{prod}} [1] The problem with the article was not guideline Notability it was the official policy Verifiability. Also your response that it was notable [2] does not meet the requirements of WP:N A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, as this article was unreferenced. Please review the prod rationale and try to address the concerns when removing a prod. Another editor came behind you and was able to find a coupel of minor references. I still would not say that article meets WP:N but it least we can validate that it is not a complete work of fiction. Thanks for taking the time to be concerned :) Jeepday (talk) 13:55, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It may have lacked sources, but Google revealed many sources that would make the article satisfy WP:N. If the article lacks sources, it simply requires the addition of links to sources (which there were), not an immediate tag for deletion. I'll admit, this is somewhat borderline, so if you really want to get this article deleted, far be it from me to stop you. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 15:35, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I searched "Norman Clemence Pilcher" [3] and found 7 mirrors, then did not look to much harder as it it is borderline and put a prod on it. It has had some minor improvement, so I will let the next editor decide what to do. Jeepday (talk) 16:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category:Alumni of St. Paul's Co-educational College vs. Category:Alumni of St. Paul's College, Hong Kong edit

Hi!

It seems like somebody, possibly you, merged these two categories under the name "Alumni of St. Paul's College, Hong Kong".

Actually, the two are two separate entities, as can also be seen from the respective articles (see St. Paul's College, Hong Kong vs. St. Paul's Co-educational College).

The St. Paul's Co-educational College was founded as St. Paul's Girl's College in 1915. After the Japanese Occupation the school was briefly merged 1945 with St. Paul's College, Hong Kong (founded 1851) and renamed St. Paul's Co-educational College. The school resumed its individual status in 1950. St. Paul's Co-educational College remained, as its name implies, co-educational.

Weblinks:

Best, 62.178.12.228 23:12, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't recall merging the categories; I believe I deleted one of them because it was empty (see the criteria for speedy deletion). If you want to recreate the deleted one, you'll need an account, but I don't believe there's any official reason stopping you. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 23:49, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I'll admit it's debatable, but I like to err on the side of not deleting in this case to avoid both biting newbies and deleting a potentially important article. I think a mistake that a lot of people make is thinking that A7 refers to non-notable subjects instead of articles that don't say why their subjects are important - there's a fine, pedantic difference. ;) Anyway, don't worry about it; glad to see you busy with the admin tools. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 17:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Of The I edit

Hi, I'm the promotional manager for the band Of The I; a band who you took off wikipedia last night since you seem to have established that they are not "notable" enough. I beg to differ; they have had over 60,000 views on Myspace (Myspace even shut them down because they were getting too many views a day at one point). On the site demonoid.com; over 10,000 people have downloaded their E.P., over 5,000 people have downloaded the E.P. songs on mp3.com, over 4,000 plays on Last.fm and the reviews on Jamendo speak for themselves. And this has occurred since late March! That is a phenomenal jump towards spreading music, more then I've ever seen an independent and unsigned band achieve. Also not to mention that the ridiculous amount of positive feedback, speaks towards an E.P. that was recorded in a tiny flat in London, without any professional assistance, and this from the the 20-year old lead singer Jordan Davis. This band is the first band to willingly appear on a mass-downloading (torrent) site's front page, in order to prove that p2p networking has benefits for the music industry as well, and Of The I pioneered this idea by getting almost 100,000 people to listen to their E.P. in a few months. Please reconsider the "notability" of this band so they can appear on the best thing that ever happened to the internet: Wikipedia. Regards,

Lewis Stevens, Of The I webmaster@ofthei.com

You have reverted back to opinions and inuendo. While I realize that Wikipedia is not rooted in absolute fact I had no idea it was subject to whims and gossip.

My post that Coral was interviewed by an independent reporter, not a reporter who works for Outsider magazine is correct and easily verifiable. While your "correction" is appreciated to a certain extent, I find it curious that one would include this as a "fact" after only ONE report.

I have no problem with gay people as I have stated but I hardly think that you can assume a person is gay from an off the cuff interview from a "reporter" looking for a story on a flat newsday. I suggest there be some truth related fact finding before allowing these sweeping generalities to invade here so that your project may continue go grow in credibility. What I have seen here is a shame.

Thank you for your assistance and I do hope you consider my comments constructive.

Coral Smith edit

What you have pointed to are simply opinions and not facts, which I get the impression from your posts yours is your favorite one.

Coral Smith's last television appearance was NOT on Fresh Meat. She did Coral's MTV's casting couch AFTER, Fresh Meat to name just one thing she did and several other appearances which you obviously do not know care to know about. Since you do not know what you are posting about, please step aside and allow those of us who do, to correct this heavily opinionated, one sided tripe, with the facts.

Quick question edit

Why did you delete Paul Langdon? Is there some reason you felt {{deletedprotected}} & the page protection was inappropriate? Thanks, — Scientizzle 21:11, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just thought that the page protection was unnecessary after I blocked the user. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we're now supposed to list salted pages at Wikipedia:Protected titles instead of using the {{deletedpage}} template. That's just what I think, though; you can undo what I did if you really want to and I won't take it to ArbCom. :) --Mr. Lefty (talk) 21:14, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh no problem. I'm just trying to learn from any mistakes I might be making--and I'm probably screwing up the protection...

Hi, I'm GorillaWarfare and am hoping to receive some coaching to become an admin. If you'd like to coach me, please leave a message on my talk page. You can see my edit count here but don't be surprised when you see that I have 25 edits. That is because I recently forgot the password to my old account, User:Theunicyclegirl. Here is my edit count from my old account. I almost have 2000 edits. I frequently revert vandalism by watching Lupin's filtered RCs. I also like to expand stubs, particularly those relating to cats or dogs. I am very good with user warning templates and speedy deletion templates. I sometimes respond on AFD. Bill Durston's page deletion edit

Mr. Lefty,

On October 21st, 2006, you made the final decision to delete a page created by Bill Durston. The overriding consideration at the time, going by the thread, is that Bill was not a significant competition for the CA-03 Congressional District.

I would like to request that, given the subsequent result of the election, you revisit that deletion decision. Additionally, the fact that Bill Durston stands on his own records as Physician, a Vietnam War Combat Veteran, a Philantropist, successful in his own right as an individual, are in my opinion considerable justification for re-visiting the deletion decision.

86,318 people (39%) of his constituents voted for him in the last election. There are more than a handful of elected officials in the US Congress today who did not garner half that much votes. There may even be some Senators with less than that many electors. If, as advanced by the individuals who requested the original deletion, the major reason for the deletion is Bill Durston's viability as a political candidate, I think garnering 86,318 in an R+7 electoral district is a resounding repudiation of that "non-viable" meme.

If, on the other hand, the reason for the deletion is the quality of the original page, then please rest assured that there are a lot of us (among the 86,318 faithfuls) who are ready and willing to do remedy whatever demerits the original page may have contained.

I implore you to please use your sense of fairness to ensure that Dr. Bill Durston is not censored out out Wikipedia for indefensible and unjustifiable misconceptions.

I thank you very much for taking the time to hear my entreaties, and I am hoping that you will be fair in your reconsideration of your previous decision.

Sincerely,

Deji deji-pol at akomolafe D.O.T com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iyaburo (talkcontribs) 21:36, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
