Lemon heads edit

Can you check on Lemon heads (hist) again for me? I had tagged it for speedy delete, but the user was insistant about having the article. I'm still doubtful about its notariety, but at the same time I appear to be the only one reverting. What didn't help was that the user removed the speedy tags twice and placed an {{sprotect}} as he thought I was vandalizing the article. Trying to do the right thing here per WP:BITE, so I made an apology on his talk page and backed off. Maybe all I'm looking for is a "You didn't screw things up, James" from someone. Can you help? Scientific attitude edit

When you have a moment, can you take a look at this article [[2]], and tell me if this looks kosher? I was going to speedy it, but could not think of the proper category to put it in... it's not really nonsense, but it is certainly not encyclopaedic. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks. ---Charles 00:36, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that's not speediable, but it's also very subjective. You will probably want to consider a PROD or AfD. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 00:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok. When I first looked at it, I was going to tag it for wikification, etc., but there is nothing to wikify. It is an opinion piece, not an article. I will propose it for AfD. Thanks for your thoughts. ---Charles 00:47, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin edit

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
I'll look forward to seeing you around. :) Luna Santin 19:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mr. Lefty,

I see looking at the WikiProject user warnings page, that you are a participant in this project. I have recently started an undertaking to harmonise all user page warnings and templates. For this I would like your assistance. I have listed a number of ideas on the project template page here as a first draft. I fully appreciate that as with most editors and admins, that you are fairly busy. Therefore I am not looking for anyone to carry out the actual work, I am willing to do that myself, with help from a number of other RC Patrollers who have come forward. But what I am looking for is your invaluable input, on the draft ideas and also to suggest other ways you believe we may improve the templates. I do however require the services of a couple of administrators to put into effect some of the new templates, as they are currently protected. Please take 5 mins to look through the new templates page, and both the project and templates talk pages and leave any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 09:53, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Could you take a look at what I think is a blockable offense? edit

Street Scholar (talk · contribs) has expressed some pretty offensive views about women and continues to do so after warnings. This interaction on my and his Talk page is the most recent: User talk:Street Scholar#Pakistan Hackerz Club, User talk:Saxifrage#It was an old convo. Apparently this is a pattern.[3] [4] As far as I've read, people have warned him for previous offenses but he's yet to receive a message in the form of an instructive block. My first reaction to reading (before I'd even commented to him) was that I'd block had I the power. Your opinion on it would be good as I fear I'm losing perspective. I'm not asking for a block, but your opinion on it would be appreciated. I think an RfC is probably the appropriate next step, as I don't think Wikipedia needs that kind of un-self-restrained attitude. Thanks. — Saxifrage 16:58, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, but thank you anyway. There appears to be an entry at WP:ANI#User:Street_Scholar already. Good day! — Saxifrage 17:31, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Objection edit

What I posted in Halo 2 was not "nonsense". It was simply a fact (NOT opinion) of Halo 2 that many players do not like to admit. Just because you don't like the fact doesn't mean it is "nonsense".

Vandalism by User 205.188.116.139 edit

Hello. I'm contacting you because I saw your name on the talk page for User:205.188.116.139, who is once again engaged in vandalism.

He/She has been at the article on author Kevin J. Anderson and has also blanked my user page and added a {{banned}} tag.

SandChigger 01:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but there's not much I can do right now, seeing as it's an AOL IP and probably a different person than the previous warnings were directed to. But, I warned them, and if they keep it up I will have no choice but to block them. Thanks, --Mr. Lefty (talk) 01:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks; I understand the problem with the proxy IPs. No doubt it's the same person, but I just noticed that the Anderson page edits were from address 205.188.117.8, the blanking of my page from 205.188.116.139. Sorry for not being more precise earlier!
I haven't looked into such "meta matters" recently, but is there some reason why the powers that be don't go ahead and require people to create accounts (with verified email addresses) before they can edit? SandChigger 01:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

November Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

I recently was directed to view one of the Madness Combat flash video movies. I am a 36 year old professional, working in philanthropy, education and computer systems. I read the discussion on 9/2006:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Madness_Combat

I have to say that after seeing the video, I wanted to learn more about what the cultural phenomenon that was behind this series of flash movies. My first choice was to come to Wikipedia for information (before googling it even). However, I was dismayed to learn that information about this series has been *banned* from Wikipedia. I can understand why some articles might be banned, but this article seems at this point to clearly merit existence. It seems similar to banning an article about Grand Theft Auto III. It may be offensive but it is certainly noteworthy.

We can't erase the fact that these movies exist in the world and that many people are viewing them. I would welcome information about the the cultural context of this series in Wikipedia. In other words, I don't think of Wikipedia as a factual reference solely - it serves as a cultural reference as well - and that's a very important job that only it is capable of doing well. There are many very obscure video games for example (M.U.L.E - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.u.l.e. for example) that have no substantial notability except that a very small percentage of computer afficiando's remember it. I can't see how this modern series of relatively offensive and extremely violent flash movies deserves any less?

Thanks for considering this input. Advice on how to post it to revive the discussion on the "salted earth" status of this series would be most welcome. You can reach me at "public A T MISUSE DO T O R G" (sorry for the obfuscation - I'm not sure if this posting will be publicly visible or not).

Thanks,

Steve —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stevemidgley (talkcontribs) 16:37, 18 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

User block edit

Yes, you may be right about it being excessive. I don't do blocking very often, but this appeared to me to be a reincarnation of the "poopy" vandal who so often graces our screens. I'll change it. Deb 22:52, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I guess it could be a sockpuppet, but I think there are a whole lot more poop vandals than anyone knows about. ;) --Mr. Lefty (talk) 22:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Madness combat article, reply edit

Thank you for your reply - it's greatly appreciated. So, I had reviewed the Notability Criteria before writing to you. I also reviewed the discussion pages under the Madness_combat page itself. Several people talked about "banning" the content and "salting the earth" which is why I mentioned that the page was banned. I don't know much about Wikipedia administration, so I apologize if my words were wrong.

I believe this web movie content clearly meets criteria 3 of WP:WEB: The content is distributed via a medium which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster.

Take a look at this link: Google Search for "Madness Combat" 278,000 entries for this search - and the first 5 pages (at least) are entirely devoted to this flash movie series. Now, I realize that being on Google alone is probably not notable. But consider these links:

Atom Films

UGO Player

New Grounds

All three of these locations are large-scale internet distribution systems that have editorial range and some regard. In particular Atom Films is a repository for a diverse and artistic range of content. It's run by MTV so it's clearly major media. Also note on the New Grounds page that there is a tremendous amount of fan created content produced around this series. That content is also being widely distributed (though I could understand some concerns about "notability" for this fan created material).

I make no claims that Madness Combat is high quality art or entertainment, and in fact I'm not even really a fan. I just was very surprised that Wikipedia would remove any content that had widescale distribution, is widely known on the internet and has measurable artistic integrity (the idea that porn stars are notable, but this movie series isn't, is a little hard to understand - both are notable subcultural phenomena). User:Stevemidgley Stevemidgley 06:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Again, thanks for your time and attention to this issue and I hope that you will see things in this light. Let me know how I can help move the issue forward to allow this article back on Wikipedia. Happy holidays!

madness combat edit

I understand that no one could provide evidence of relevence on the talk page when it was deleted, but if you would please follow this link, (and pay no attention to animations not within the series) then I think that you would find evidence of immense popularity, and hopefully lift the salted earth status.

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/search.php?terms=madness+combat&kind=j&x=19&y=4 this link contains evidence that millions of people have viewed it on newgrounds alone (antipathy being the only one below a million, and apotheosis + avenger having over 2 million views)

the series is also on stickpage http://www.stickpage.com/madnessseries.shtml

Atom Films

UGO Player

the series has its own fan site (not made by the creator) http://madnesscombat.com/ atomfilms has already been explained above, and madness is a featured series on stickpage, and they aren't even stickfigures. It's probably also on a few other sites that I don't know. As for the requirement of outside media, there is the MTV (atomfilms) thing, (and by now all the attention that the deletion got could be considered lol)

Non-Latin Username Blocks edit

There is some dispute as to whether these blocks are supported. There are many active editors who do just fine contributing with non-latin names. Per the discussion here, there seems be support for reccomending for to people creating a username at en.WP to not use non-latin characters. But does not appear to be consensus for blocking people on sight who already have a non-latin account at another Wikimedia wiki. Will you please start taking these non-latin username through Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names in order to better gather opions on the mattter? Thank you for your atttention to this matter.--Birgitte§β ʈ Talk 17:03, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Madness Combat, re-opened? edit

Hi,

Madness_Combat --> Was this article re-opened? Did you do that? I put up a test edit, because it appeared to be unlocked. I don't want to violate the terms of service. Can you confirm that this page is intentionally now "unsalted earth?"

Note that the alternate spelling is still prohibited: Madness_combat

Thanks, stevemidgley

Madness Combat (deleted) edit

Why was the Madness Combat deleted? It meets criterion #3 on WP:WEB.

I quote:

"3. The content is distributed via a medium which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster."

The Madness Series has been distributed through various respected Flash Animation sites, including UGO Player and Newgrounds. The series is an icon of flash animation, and Krinkels is one of the most well-known and idolized flash artists on the internet. This is evident through his reviews, ratings and immense popularity.

Please help to bring the Madness Combat page back from deletion!

I do not understand why you have locked the Madness Combat page. While the series is juvenile, it is incredibly popular (1 million plus viewers on newgrounds alone). I ask you to re-open the page.

My RFA edit

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. About your deletion of Kingdom Hearts III, i have a question... there are many fine pages, such as the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows article, that are about future events and releases. Yet they are not deleted under the context of Wikipedia is not a crystal ball.. If there is information released by the makers of the Kingdom hearts series, then why can't there be an article about it?

kingdom hearts 3 edit

hello "Mr. Lefty" I read the act log for the KH3 thing and I think I found a sort of confirmation of it. maybe you can post this up. this is it. straight from game spot:

"Though Kingdom Hearts II has just about wrapped up its journey onto North American shelves, it won't be the end of the action role-playing series. A day after Square Enix held its Kingdom Hearts II launch party in Los Angeles, producer Tetsuya Nomura took some time to talk about the future of the franchise with Famitsu.com. There, he revealed that he already has some new ideas for the series.

Nomura is thinking of a new installation that won't be a numbered sequel or something that takes place between two games the way that Chain of Memories (Game Boy Advance) did. If fans of the series find that a bit confusing, they have nothing to worry about, because they're not alone.

"It's difficult to explain it. I'm thinking about how to talk about it [without giving things away], which means that there will be some twists to it. Up until now, the series followed along a [straight] time line, going from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. But the idea I have right now doesn't follow that flow," Nomura told Famitsu.com. "However, as long as it inherits the Kingdom Hearts title, it needs to have some connection [to previous installments] in terms of storyline, so it won't be too distant from the other titles. In any case, this is still at a conceptual phase, where I'm thinking about what I want to do."

Famitsu.com also asked Nomura whether the next installment's story will take place after the ending in Kingdom Hearts II. However, Nomura only smiled, neither confirming nor denying it.

Nomura is currently at work on multiple titles, and he revealed that there will be more announcements at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo and Tokyo Game Show. Square Enix is planning a big event for the E3 announcement in particular, and the company will be holding a surprise ceremony during the expo.

Kingdom Hearts, rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older, is scheduled to be available in stores tomorrow for $49.99 on the PlayStation 2. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage or come back later this week for a full review"

or something like this.
