Speedy deletion nomination of Angie Craig edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Angie Craig, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:22, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open! edit

Hello, BoogaLouie. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

SAYWHERE edit

Hi-- Just a note on citation style. Per WP:SAYWHERE, we should explicitly note when we're citing a source we haven't consulted ourselves. That way if another editor wants to verify the statement and possibly rewrite it, they can do that based on the consulted source. Otherwise, we're in effect requiring them to consult multiple, potentially inaccessible sources, which weren't actually used directly, before they can make a change. It's a sore point for me, because I've struggled with issues of this kind before. Thanks. Eperoton (talk) 19:22, 6 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Islamic Financial Services Board edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Islamic Financial Services Board requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/ifsb.asp. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

— Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:13, 3 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Phil Parshall edit

The article Phil Parshall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The sources do not show notability guidelines being met

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. IslamQA edit

Hi BoogaLouie. I'm glad to see the great work you've been doing lately on Islam-related articles. Just a word of caution on IslamQA. This site promotes a Salafi perspective. It's quite prominent and we can cite it with attribution, but we shouldn't use it as a RS for generalizations about other schools of thoughts, which are sometimes tendentious. Eperoton (talk) 03:45, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Can't disagree. Thought IslamQA would be pretty authoritative on traditional punishment (and traditional much else) but will do further research for other sources. --BoogaLouie (talk) 17:05, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. There's tradition and there's tradition. Salafis tend to have less regard to the body of classical fiqh and interpret the scriptures on their own. Here's one example where someone tried to pass IslamQA as representing Sunni Islam, and I happened to come across a passage in a RS that shed some light: Kafir#Muhammad's_parents. I don't believe al-Munajjid would make deliberate distortions about classical fiqh, but when he's making generalizations about it, I would exercise caution. For punishments a great source is Crime and punishment in Islamic law by Rudolph Peters, aside from academic encyclopedias. Eperoton (talk) 03:23, 25 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Answering Islam edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Answering Islam requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. signed, Rosguill talk 01:06, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia writing style edit

Try to paraphrase content from the source rather than taking chunks of it and adding quotation marks (i.e. "quoting" from the source). Wikipedia is not a research paper or an academic essay. You should try to use quotes as little as possible, limiting it to instances where you need to, such as when you are quoting a statement. Copying large parts from your source and adding quotes is not paraphrasing, so try your best to rewrite sentences or ideas. Keep up the great contributions, and all the best. Proposed deletion of Socialist Rifle Association edit

The article Socialist Rifle Association has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Kind of well-written,and has lots of sources, but this organization has no coverage in reliable sources. Only a passing mention in some news articles.

Speedy deletion nomination of Socialist Rifle Association edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Socialist Rifle Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

• Hi there BoogaLouie, thanks for your helpful contributions to the Russian interference article... just writing to ask that you keep WP:QUOTEFARM in mind if you're not already. There's an excessive amount of quotation in the article and several editors feel that the article is too long. We can make the article more encyclopedic by paraphrasing the source content we add, as concisely as possible but hopefully without losing its essence. R2 (bleep) 17:15, 10 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Ahrtoodeetoo: Hi R2D2. I have used a lot of quoted material on the grounds that it avoids some of the question of accuracy of paraphrasing. But I do also try to paraphrase as much as I can. Traditionist edit

Hi, BoogaLouie. You're right "traditionist" has been used to translate two different Arabic terms ahl al-hadith and muhaddith. I've looked into this before for Traditionalist_theology_(Islam)#Terminology and the former seems to be the more prevalent usage, but we can create a dab page. I don't know where you got the usage of ashab al-hadith as synonymous with muhaddith. I checked your Brown citation, and he clearly uses it as synonymous with ahl al-hadith, like other sources I've seen. We even cite this variant in the opening sentence. I did, but I didn't see ashab al-hadith used there at all. Eperoton (talk) 03:20, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
My mistake. The cite is [1]
I accidently discarded it when I copied from Hadith_studies#Muhaddith:_scholar_of_hadith.

  • Brown, Daniel W. (1996). Rethinking tradition in modern Islamic thought. Cambridge University Press. ISBN 0521570778. Retrieved 10 May 2018.
Yes, I checked the other citation too. Brown defines ashab al-hadith as the "partisans of tradition" who opposed ahl al-ra'y and ahl al-kalam in polemical debates. To me that clearly indicates that he uses ashab al-hadith synonymously with ahl al-hadith, like other sources. What makes you think otherwise? Eperoton (talk) 18:50, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
My mistake. ashab al-hadith is synonymous with ahl al-hadith, not muhaddith. Should have read more carefully.--BoogaLouie (talk) 18:54, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Good catch on the other use of "traditionist". Eperoton (talk) 19:00, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Edits on Hadith edit

Hi. I found several issues with your latest edits on Hadith:

  • In Note 2, you wrote that 'Shah Waliullah advocated' raising hands during salat (the sentence could even be interpreted as saying that he advocated beating that guy to death). The cited paragraph tells quite the opposite: it is the 'disciples/uneducated masses' who held a strong opinion, while Waliullah only tactfully advised to 'follow the local custom, ... despite ...'.
  • You're changing variants that are consistently applied in this and other articles, which is generally never a good idea, at least not without a discussion. In particular your changes from 'hadith' to 'ahadith' do the exact opposite of this recent edit, so please agree with that editor first. WP:MOS-AR advises to prefer only basic transcription, so no diacritics should be used (except in the first line or when discussing linguistics). The ‘ayn and hamzah are usually written, but in Quran it is more frequent to omit it. For example, MOS:ISLAM itself uses Quran and Hadith for the collective term, not ahadith. The article title itself is Quran, so you should discuss that if you want to change it in mass.
  • The change 'The reports of behavior to be emulated that were collected' → 'The reports of behavior to emulate collected' seems ungrammatical to me.
  • 'Books and journal articles' is very unusual. Long articles on Wikipedia usually have 'References' and 'Bibliography' sections used as in Hadith before, so I don't understand your changes.
  • When removing duplicate items you removed the full citation template to "Encyclopedia of Canonical Hadith" instead of the shorter, less informative line.
  • Please separate your changes into different edits. It's hard to understand what happened when you change both many small stylistic details and add new full sentences in one edit. The edit summaries should be more descriptive.

The other changes are genuine improvements, so I'd be thankful if you could revert the above and just keep the others. Tokenzero (talk) 22:03, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Critism of Hadith/ about ablution edit

There is a difference between "wajib" (obligatory) and "sunnah" (recommended). Washing one time is obligatory (wajib) , more than one time is recommended (sunna). That distinction is known from many other similar topics like the prayer. In some narratinos a prayer is done and in some its not. Its not a contradiction because it just means some prayers are Sunnah and some Wajib. So there is also no contraction in terms of being an example because that was common method to show, that something is obligatory or not. The same rule applies for ablution.

https://islamqa.info/en/answers/226422/the-obligatory-parts-and-sunnahs-of-wudoo

Whitemonth (talk) 22:51, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit 23.06.2020:

From Wikepedia "a contradiction consists of a logical incompatibility or incongruity between two or more propositions". Thats not the case because its logically possible to wash my hands once and another time thrice. But there is another wrong preassumption, that everything in the hadith is always obligatory (Any source for that ?). There is difference between "saying" and "actions". If the prophet would SAY different things, it could be ambigous for the follower but ACTIONS are not the same. For example there are narrations where he is riding a camel , in another narrations he is riding a horse and in some he is walking. These are not cotradicting each other. It cant be said, its not clear what Muslims should do becaue all of them are allowed. In some narrations the prophet prays in certain times and in some not. These are not contradicting because both are allowed if the prayer is not obligatory. Contradicton would appear if he ORDERS different rulings. I hope its more clear

And what the reliability of the website "Uncorrupted Islam", the author is unknwon and there is no explanationn from credible person to the narrations. Looks like what christian missionaries do — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitemonth (talkcontribs) 23:38, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit: wikiislam is not a reliable source and anyway is just citing the hadith (like the second source) without any scholarly opion how they understood this narrations or if they saw contradictions. How I said before , there is a difference between ORDERS and just ACTIONS. Only because there are narrations that the prophet sometimes walked and sometimes was riding a camel, there is no contradiction between them. Most of the narrations are like that and there was no contradcition seen. Maybe you have reliable sources where scholars saw contradictions between them — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitemonth (talkcontribs) 06:07, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I find it hard to believe there are not hadith where some observed ACTIONS of the Prophet are not held up as examples to obediently follow, but you are right wikiislam does not cite a scholar. At least for now I'm acquiescing to your deletes --Louis P. Boog (talk):~

Book citation details edit

Hello Louis and thanks for your ongoing improvements to Wikipedia. I just want to remind you to supply the details for books that you cite. In Early Quranic manuscripts and Canonization of Islamic scripture I've found a lot of short citations, e.g. Donner, "Quran in Recent Scholarship", 2008, where full details of the source are not provided and the link doesn't go anywhere. I'm in the process of fixing this for the first article, but it looks like there are lots of missing full citations in the second article. Just a suggestion, but you might find the sfn template a more efficient and standardised way to generate the citations with page references that you are going for. Again, thanks for adding scholarly content to these articles. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 14:52, 24 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. The short answer is I was using a format (not very well apparently) that gives a short citation with page number that is also a link (in theory) to the complete bibliographic below the citations. If you've changed them all to sfn template I won't unchange them. I'll try and fix this. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 12:59, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is dividing 10,000 by 200 original research? edit

I ask because I've just done so, after seeing this edit. [1] Ignoring the other problems with the sourcing involved (there are many), I'd have thought it unlikely that 'fished' men were fathering an average of fifty children each. If the sources were being legitimately used for such statements, I'd assume that you intended to write "two hundred thousand men", and correct it. I can't however do this, since as I note, there are other serious issues with the way both sources are being used. Perhaps you should look at your edit again? AndyTheGrump (talk) 12:58, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

misprint. sloppy of me. corrected. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 15:06, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that. I would note though that I still consider this not to be properly sourced, since it is citing a claim made in a Children of God document (or something that xfamily.com says is a Children of God document) as a statement of fact. Using primary-source documents for self-serving claims isn't generally advisable, particularly over controversial issues. And the second source cited doesn't actually confirm what it is being cited for either. It states that "More than 13,000 children were born to followers between 1971 and 2001", after noting that female followers were discouraged from using birth control. Some of these children were no doubt the result of 'fishing' encounters, but we can't assume they all were. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:15, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agree statement is ambiguous. However, it is stated in the context of
Rodriguez, the first child conceived through “flirty fishing,” was the natural son of Berg’s common-law wife, Karen Zerby, also called “Maria,” and a waiter she picked up in the Canary Islands. Rodriguez was called “Davidito.”' --Louis P. Boog (talk) 19:36, 2 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
