thanks, I think only about 12 hours to go. it suprising how quickly misinformation about snakes spreads only found 1 site out of 59 that said anything other than locals but its an incomplete list. Fauna, or Flora of the World

I claim no insight to the "answers to the problems". I worked on all the fauna flora avifauna/birds trees as of 20 days ago, turning into the Caribbean from Central America, then reversing and doing S. Amer. And I went back to the Caribbean, kind of going by island, now in the Greater Antilles looking at the links to the Jamaica page(there are 63, 50 item pages linked, so it takes some hours and looking at pages, putting things into categories). If I had been asked, I would have said I wouldn't have dared to try to do the Caribbean. But you will see some of the pages ended up as "by islands" to clear out the "Main" page, and then there can still be some "ambiquities". So, it has been a work in progress,. ....... I did start with the states of Western US, and then started the subcaategories, like: Category:Avifauna of Southwestern United States, or ...Category:Trees of Northwestern United States. Then i did all the Canadian Provinces, (and then put them in "by province", and I have been doing that for Mexico "by state". So, i am just trying to keep it all organized, and logical. I have no final answers. I do know one thing that happened in the US stuff, so I left it, for a couple of reasons. And I did start: Category:Trees of the Amazon. there is: plenty of work to continue doing. Michael, in the Sonoran Desert. --Mmcannis 04:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

You are overlooking a major item (and as i noted, Oceania, is Not a continent). If you look at Category:Fauna of South America by region, you will find the Guianas, the only "Land" subsection, at the moment for S. America. I originally had them s.Amer by country, then realized Tierra del Fuego, and then Falkland Islands, are the only two other logical items. So i put all the countries then under "by region". Chile and Tierra d Fue are listed together. Other items are listed together(in the Caribbean especially). The overlooked point is, "by Continent" doesn't mean everything just slides into "by Continent" because it is a continent. Eurasia, and Oceania(with a subset for East Indies?), then Caribbean, C. Amer. The only other area I think one could come up with is maybe the Mediterranean, to include Azores, and Canary Island. Admin revert

Regarding this revert, I'm not so sure that was vandalism. As far as I recall, the rule of thumb is to only use admin revert in cases of obvious vandalism, which this was not. Whether the addition was worth keeping or not is another story and I am not qualified to comment as to that, I just wanted to remind you to be careful with those admin tools. ITN

Hello, LiquidGhoul.

I won't say this on Talk:MainPage (too public), but I have trouble justifying the strict enforcement of ITN guidelines at the same time when so many people are actively (the past few days) asking at Talk:ITN that the guidelines be changed. Ignoring guidelines is bad. Enforcing guidelines widely considered inadequate is also bad. I ain't arguing to keep the line. I simply decided that it's best to leave things as is. I hope you understand.

I didn't add the line about Ford onto ITN. And I don't have strong enough a reason to take it off. It should be there, but it's not a strong case. I'd rather displace it sooner with better ITN materials, e.g. the war in Somalia. --PFHLai 18:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Reply: Dead frog

Earlier I had questions about my red eyed treefrog's death and you asked for more information. The frog was miscolored and he looked very much alive when he was actually dead. His eyes were closed and he was hanging upside down on a leaf. I spray the terrarium several times a day and came to do this and after I sprayed he fell from the the leaf to the ground. He had already been dead while on the leaf and was very stiff. I have no photos, as I try not to make a habit of photographing dead pets. His appetite seemed normal. In November we took him to the vet because of some unusual spots on his back. The vet said this was from humidity being too low, and we kept humidity extra high and the spots went away. As for the Green Treefrog, she is very active at night and seems to be in perfect health. I already cleaned the terrarium and she is living there. Are you sure my frog had ranavirus? I did some reseach and most websites say that ranavirus, known as "red-leg" here in America, also show symptoms of swelling, bloating, and redness on the body in some species. And when I said he was discolored, I meant dark green not red. And he did not seem lethargic in any way. My frog, Jerry, showed none of these symptoms. And Janet, the green tree frog, seems healthier than ever. And if it was red-leg, if Jerry had it, although it takes a while to take hold, should have killed him a long time ago. He was fairly young. Frogs

Sadly I only have pictures of motorbike frogs - I know we do have banjo frogs somewhere because I can hear them, but have never seen one (or if I have, haven't been able to distinguish it). Most of my pictures are pretty average though - all ours are babies. I've got a few unusual ones though like 9 newly-metamorphised ones scrambling for a place in the sun on a single reed, and of course the one I linked on Fred's page. WA frogs

Very glad I got your attention. I have been manually inserting the newly created cat;

• Category:Amphibians of Western Australia

and populate it with unique (mostly!) West Australian inhabitants. Can I claim the overseas and WA frogs for the glory of the project!? :)

Common names

Hi,
I will get around to photographing them, hunting for a good deal on a camera at the moment. Regarding naming; the scientific name is the most common name. • I'm not convinced, do you mean it is the most frequently used or ordinary name or a inferior or vulgar one? You are the second person to recommend that compact camera series, I'm sold. • I hope you didn't mind me paraphrasing the dictionary, I thought it would illustrate my point on definition. I don't know if you followed the discussion with Stemonitis, he suggested that I seek WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles#Names and titles which redirected to WP:TOL. The two most relevant lines, IMHO, are identification of formal common names and reiteration of the perennial rule. Commas or parentheses for scientific name in opening sentence and elsewhere

(Now that was a long header wasn't it?) There's a debate here about commas versus parentheses for scientific names for organisms (well in this case birds). I'm not sure whether this has been raised elsewhere but would be good to establish once and for all here and could apply as MOS across all biology articles.cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. I appreciate the work you're doing on the article Bufo. But it would be a good idea to describe the changes Frost et al. (2006) have brought to this genus. And give a link in the section "references" to the publication of their research. Otherwise, others wil keep adding in good faith outdated names to this genus. Bufo names

The Frost et al. paper is highly controversial and poorly supported, and there are several papers in press rejecting that taxonomy and retaining a much broader genus Bufo. Changing the names at this time is a big problem, and will simply result in greater confusion in the literature. The Pauly et al. study provides strong support for the monophyly of a much more traditional Bufo. It turns out that some of the sequences used by Frost et al. were not even from anurans, but rather represent parasites of frogs. In addition, the alignment of the genes was highly problematic. Picture

Hi!

I work for Digital Dimensions, a production company in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. We are currently working on a children's programme about the Great Barrier Reef creatures, and we have a graphic-heavy recap section which includes pictures of the animals we talk about. We have tried to source as many as we can with our own HDV footage, but we do need some very clear high res shots of some of the animals. I saw the Soldier crab picture on Wiki and have read the agreements, but we cannot however place the whole project under GFDL license as it should be.

So i was wondering if you would be interested to sell your picture to us for use in the series (1 episode only), and what would be your price. If the latter was reasonable, and that you had any more marine shots (though I understand you are frog oriented) we would be keen to maybe buy more from you.

Help needed

Hello LiquidGhoud. Over the past few weeks, SunCreator and I have been trying to hash out all the Emydidae turtle articles. This template has been created and included on all of the species' articles:

We are having a devil of a time figuring out the most currrent/most accurate taxonomic classification of these turtles. See here, here, and here for full conversations.
