White's tree frog

I have fixed two of the points you raised, but cannot do the natural lifespan. I don't think anyone has researched it, and it would be very hard to research as you cannot collar them (as is normally done in these studies), and chipping them would mean you would have to find them again (not easy when they are in the wild). My intentions with the "Conservation status" edit was to remove this statement: "there is still concern". That statement is someone's opinion so it should be referenced. I re-worded it with the factors laid out so that the reader can come to this opinion without the writer telling them it is so. Please consider this for a future revision. Unblocked

Hi, I've unblocked the IP you asked me to unblock. The IP was blocked for repeated vandalism and edits of a malicious personal nature. I realise these edits may have been made by somebody other than yourself, but this person seems prone to disruptive behaviour, and will probably be blocked again - if not by me, by some other administrator. I recommend that you continue editing under your registered name, and not as an anonymos IP, so that your useful edits can be judged separately from whatever vandalism is done out of your IP. As for my email address, for personal reasons I would rather it not be linked to wikipedia. I apologize for this. But you can email any other sysop and ask them to unblock you: direct their attention to this comment on your talk page. --Woggly 09:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, blocking the IP will block you from editing from that IP even if you are a registered user. I'm just saying you should always edit as a register user, so as to build up your identity and reputation: that way admins will be more likely to unblock you if you have been blocked as the side-effect of an IP block. --Woggly 11:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

grammar

If I allowed 'due to' in an editing job, my colleagues would change it to 'because'. If you don't like that word at the start of a paragraph, why not reverse the order of the clauses. I have no problem starting with 'Because' in this register. Tony 14:45, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

IMO, nothing wrong with "due to," but "it becoming" should be "its becoming," as the gerund takes the possessive. (Business writing doesn't like "due," but this is a high social register, and it is international, so "due" should be as welcome as the subjunctive.) Geogre 22:19, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Described vs. Known?

The frog in the pool

Bad picture of frog

F.Y.I. The frog was removed from the pool right as it was being quickly photographed. It or one of the same species has repeatedly jumped into my suburban swimming pool and we have had to atttempt to remove it as it swam through the chlorinated water. I will admit it is not in line with the rest of the pictures on the article and I am going to of course also de-list it from the featured picture candidates page. I added the picture not so much to show the frog, but I thought it would help illustrate the effects urban sprawl has had on frogs. I am offended to be accused of animal cruelty. I have saved dozens of baby turtles that also have "suddenly appeared" in our pool over the years so that they might have a chance to live. I did not "sit around and take pictures of it." One person removed it right as I took a photo of it. Urban sprawl has had serious affects on frogs and I hope you can find a better picture to add to illustrate this very important issue. Picture placement change

When I look at the article tree frog the images made a big hole in the text, when all three images were placed at the same spot. Isfisk 13:12, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

African Clawed Frog Photo

I've gotten unblocked again a bit quicker this time. Xenopus laevis isn't a partiularly colourful frog and the hues of the photo are distracting in the original photo. The black and white works much better to illustrate the frog. I've a similar photo at Image:African Clawed Frog.JPG in colour, and both frogs have the same colouration. i want to write about it, u know. "Romer's Tree Frog (Philautus romeri) is the smallest amphibian among the frog and toad species recorded in Hong Kong. Its average body length is from 1.5 cm to 2 cm..." just want to know if there is any known species smaller than it in the world (it already seems to me very small, but then i don't know much about frog). --K.C. I was just reading the policy when your message arrived. I'd have to say that I think Wikipedia is falling a bit outside of the mainstream with that choice, but if that is what has been settled then I'll abide by it.

Frog pics for LiquidGhoul

I just uploaded a Rhinophrynid pic for your families table. The picture isn't the best, but there's only one species in the family, and they only come out of the ground for a couple days a year. I was happy to just see this thing. They're wierd fat little frogs, though.

I do have pictures of Ascaphus (tailed frogs in the family Ascaphidae), but they're poor quality, and they're slides that I'd have to dig up and scan. I can do this, but not soon. I'm in the forest next week and I'll try to grab a couple photos of come glass frogs (Centrolenids).

As for other help, I know that there's Brachycephalid pics on the Brachycephalidae page.

By the way, here's a "Potentially Aposematic Tadpole Award" for the good work on Frog.

Featured and protected?

Following on from your comment about the vandalism that occurred to White's Tree Frog when it was featured on the main page, I was wondering whether it would be beneficial to semi-protect or even protect articles on the main page. Well, I've just read much of the discussion, including the cited diffs, and all I can say is that I can't take a day off work for this. Perhaps the solution is to permanently display articles in diff mode, like it's done in word processor version control.
