New Page Review - newsletter No.3

Hello Liance,

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Discuss this newsletter here. If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 15:35, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

19:46:45, 10 March 2017 review of submission by Shian pryce

I am currently doing an article about a Canadian photographer, Nicole Jolicoeur and I am wondering why it has been denied. Maybe I am not doing something correctly.

List of International Schools in Rome - Acorn House - Rejected

Hi there Liance, I wonder why the draft I have submitted, Acorn House International School was rejected as this page was created to add an existing school to the page of international schools in Rome and international schools in Italy. Both list are filled with other schools whose notability may be arguable, however the idea behind my submission is to complete the list of international schools to readers looking for this kind of information on Wikipedia.

If this doesn't makes sense, both the categories above should be removed.

I will be awaiting for your thoughts.

Thanks

Thank you for the comments on the article. I have added some additional news coverage of the subject (and clarified some existing references where it was not clear that the reference was to national press).

Also please note that the subject is mentioned in the Wiki pages for Alexander Campkin and that events produced by or featuring the subject are included in the articles Tobias Menzies and Linder Sterling.

Let me know if any further revisions would be helpful. Dredlongwiki (talk) 15:37, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Draft articles

Are draft articles started by an establshed editor (me) subject to publication by anyone, regardless of status? I had an article published from Draft before I was done when Draft was first started, and thereafter I have alwasys developed new artices in my sandbox. I see you are active in this regard, and seek your advice, now that I have a Draft article Draft:SplashData by my own mistake. No hurry, article is barely started.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 13:33, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Request on 16:39:35, 20 April 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by FloH340

Hi Liance,

You rejected an article I submitted based on notability. This was the first article I wrote and I tried to follow the rules meticulously including citing several different published books.

The person I was writing about James Durgavel Irving, was prominent in his time and was the founder of what is now a I believe a multi-billion corporation in Atlantic Canada. The family, the Irvings, and their many companies are the subjects of many other pages that are poorly written and don't follow the wiki rules (see a partial list below), so I decided to read as much as I can and take on the project starting with the person and history about how this all began. It is a very interesting and relevant story that spans 150 years that has been documented and cited in several books from various authors as well as in newspaper articles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._C._Irving https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irving_Group_of_Companies https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=J._D._Irving&action=history https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irving_Oil

Below is my clarification of the intros and all the citations below it.

Can you let me know more specifically why it would not be considered worthy of a wiki page or if it should simply be part of one of the other poorly written pages that are already online?

Many thanks!

SUBJECT James Durgavel Irving James Durgavel Irving (1860-1933) was the founder of J.D. Irving Limited, a privately-owned, vertically integrated Canadian business that is now in its fourth generation of family leadership. He was the father of K.C. Irving, one of Canada's leading industrialists and entrepreneurs who built the company into one of the largest corporations in Atlantic Canada, with business interests that span from forestry to shipbuilding, transportation to consumer goods.

• 1 Early life and family

James Durgavel Irving was born in Galloway, Kent County[1], New Brunswick in 1860 to Herbert Irving and wife Catherine Durgavel. One of seven children, he was the fifth born and second son. [2]

James Durgavel Irving grew up on a farm in the New Brunswick forest between the Richibucto and Bouctouche rivers. He became known as J.D. to distinguish himself from other Irvings in the area.[3]

In 1881, at 21 years of age, J.D. Irving left home, bought a small sawmill and settled in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, a village surrounded by forest, farmland, river and sea. [4]

In 1884, J.D. married his first wife Minnie Irving(nee Hutchison).[5]. They had three children, one who died in infancy. Minnie Irving died in 1889 at age twenty-five. He later married Mary Elizabeth Gifford, and had three children including Kenneth Colin Irving, born in 1899. [6]

2. J.D. Irving Limited

In 1882, J.D. Irving Limited was established in Bouctouche, New Brunswick. The original holdings included a sawmill, gristmill, carding mill, a general store, lumber business and a farm. J.D. also marketed fish and other produce.[7]

Between 1882 and 1900, J.D.'s company letterhead listed its activities as general store, lumbermill, gristmill operator and fish dealer.[8]

The December 1912 edition of the Maritime Farmer commended J.D. for his use of vertical integration, producing things in one enterprise that would feed another.[9]

J.D.Irving died on June 6, 1933, during the Great Depression.[10] The company owned a sawmill, the family store in Bouctouche and some woodlands in Kent County. [11] His son Kenneth Colin Irving (K.C.) acquired full ownership of J.D. Irving Limited, buying out his siblings. [12]

From the 1930’s to the 1970’s, K.C. Irving expanded and diversified the company his father J.D. had spent his lifetime building, through vertical integration. [13]

Today J.D. Irving Limited business interests include forestry and forest products, consumer products, agriculture, food processing, transportation and logistics, shipbuilding and fabrication, retail and distribution, industrial equipment and construction. Headquartered in Saint John, New Brunswick, it is often referred to as JDI.[14]

3. Legacy

J.D. Irving’s name lives on today, as J.D. Irving Limited continues to be a family-run company, now led by members of its fourth generation.[15]

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Liance,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 819 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Your draft article, User:Baxtes/sandbox

Hello, Liance. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "sandbox".

In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 21:37, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Orphaned non-free image File:ChatON app logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:ChatON app logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:13, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Liance. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello Liance, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello Liance, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.

New Page Review Newsletter No.10

Hello Liance, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Liance, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Hello Liance,

Thank you for reviewing my new article DeepOnion. Your Comment: Sources do not establish notability of subject, merely acknowledging its existence. All references on Wikipedia must conform to our policies in that they must be reliable and secondary, some of your sources do not fit that requirement; in addition the references should establish notability about the subject (CryptoCompare for example). Hi Liance, I am new at creating articles for Wikipedia. Can you clarify your comment "Some references are associated with the subject. Please remove these." Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haelan951 (talkcontribs) 18:17, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Haelan951, I was referring to the fact that Wikipedia requires references to be independent of the subject, in that they usually should not be published by a party closely related to the subject itself. I recommend removing references published by a party closely related to the subject itself before resubmitting your article. Please let me know if you have any other questions. -Liancetalk/contribs 23:29, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

WikiProject Apps: Swift Playgrounds + Kiwaka

Hello Liance,

Thank you for reviewing and rating Swift Playgrounds. Someone tagged the page with: "{Advert | date=February 2019}" I would like to improve the article so that the tag can be removed. I've reviewed the document and I don't think it has inappropriate links or promotional content. Maybe the language style could be improved. Do you have any recommendations?

Also, I've recently submitted an article for an educational game: Draft:Kiwaka within the scope of the WikiProject Apps. I've noticed that you are also in this group. Do you want to take a look and give me your feedback?

Best regards, --Coel Jo (talk) 13:46, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Coel Jo, I took a look at Swift Playgrounds and I think there are no particularly problematic issues with the article, perhaps the language could be made a bit more neutral but otherwise the article is great. When I get the chance I will take a look at Draft:Kiwaka and get it reviewed. Let me know if you have any more questions. Keep up the good work! -Liancetalk/contribs 17:29, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

Open Beatz festival

I had a look at the article corresponding to the submission you declined at the German Wikipedia, and I noticed that it's using the same ref that I used. You said that that ref is invalid. Do you know if it's an issue that the ref is on the corresponding article? I understand if you can't explain. GOLDIEM J (talk) 16:57, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi GOLDIEM J, I am assuming you are talking about your draft, Draft:Open beatz. The ref itself is okay at best, but it should not be used alone to establish notability. In order to be included in Wikipedia, articles must have multiple references that show coverage and are independent of the subject - the website you cited does not appear to meet this criteria. You should look to add some more references that are not as closely associated in order to establish notability. Please let me know if you have any more questions. -Liancetalk/contribs 19:14, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Thank you. I actually have another question right now. How do you eat a sandwich?😂 #humour GOLDIEM J (talk) 20:49, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Thank you!

Liance,

Thank you for guiding my article on Minnie Howard to the preferred location. Obviously, I'm very new, and I learn much more quickly through trial and error than through reading copious amounts of text. I'm taking the directive to "be bold" to heart. So, again, thank you for your assistance.

One question, I would like to make an alteration to formatting but when I submitted the article for review, the instruction asked that I don't change anything. As long as I don't change any of the text, can I still make the formatting change to bring the article in line with what I see as common practice?

Sincerely, MagicWellGilt73 (talk) 19:21, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Lonnie McFadden

Dear Liance:

Thanks for moving my Lonnie McFadden page to Draft:Lonnie McFadden. I understand I need to be patient, but I'm wondering if there is any information about the process of having pages accepted. This is the first page I've written, but my hope is to post pages for many Kansas City jazz musicians who have sufficient published material about them for creating pages. I'll feel much more comfortable moving forward with this project when they start to be posted. It's hard to know if the work is just disappearing.

I would be grateful for any information about how I might know if and when the page will be posted.

Many thanks, Anne AG Kansas City AG Kansas City (talk) 00:02, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi AG Kansas City, it appears that Draft:Lonnie McFadden is currently out of the review process, so it cannot be reviewed by an editor and potentially included in the Wikipedia mainspace until you resubmit it. An editor has declined your submission, and I recommend you take a look at the advice they provided and edit the submission based on that advice so that the draft fits Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. Once you feel that you are ready to re-enter the review process there should be a blue "Resubmit" button on your draft that you can click on. Hope this helps! -Liancetalk/contribs 00:12, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

Draft:Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation

Hello Liance,

This is not an appropriate draft since we already have an article Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation about the same topic, and drafts of improvements to existing articles should be in user space, not draft space. Please discuss with the author and move it back. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:57, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I forgot to check the mainspace for the same article prior to moving it to the draftspace. Will definitely talk to the author about this. Thank you! -Liancetalk/contribs 04:19, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Headline change

Hello Liance, could you please change the headline of the draft "Draft:Serial Breadth-First-Search" to "Draft:Parallel Breadth-First-Search", because "Serial Breadth-First-Search" is the name of the first chapter only for brief introduction. Thanks a lot! --Kit unodc (talk) 15:12, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Kit unodc, I have moved your draft to Draft:Parallel Breadth-First-Search. Please let me know if you need any more assistance. -Liancetalk/contribs 13:48, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Review of Draft:Aerofly_FS

Hello Liance, Thanks for your review but I have to admit that I really don't understand why you consider that my several references are not reliable or independent. They are famous and respected websites in the flight simulation world, I cannot see what I could provide better than them. Thanks for your help, Vincent (aka Turman on Wikipedia). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Turman (talkcontribs) 13:56, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Turman, for inclusion on Wikipedia references must be reliable and significant. Though those websites do provide coverage of the subject I think more sources that provide coverage could be beneficial in establishing the subject's notability if possible, especially from those that may be prominent outside of flight simulation. Other editors have also left comments on your submission; you should look at those as well in revising your article. Hope this helps. -Liancetalk/contribs 14:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Draft article John R D'Alton

Hi Liance Thank you for helping out with my first article. I can't seem to find it in "Drafts" and it has gone from where it was when i last changed it. Can you please help me find it? Or is there a delay after you moved it?

Many thanks Paul S Stuart (talk) 01:39, 5 April 2019 (UTC) Paul S Stuart

Hi Paul S Stuart, it seems that your article submission was deleted by an administrator because it violated Wikipedia's copyright policies as a copy of [1]. Moving page to another draft

Hi!

You told me this (below) about my page Samira Mustafaeva: April 2019[править] Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Samira Mustafaeva, from its old location at User:Рула Борзых/sandbox/Samira Mustafaeva. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. -Liancetalk/contribs 18:52, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Can u explain what means moving page from my sandbox to another draft? How long will it take to publish it to mainspace? And what I need to do to accelerate this process? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Рула Борзых (talkcontribs) 10:00, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Рула Борзых, your draft article is currently in the WP:Draft namespace which is where submissions are preferred to be kept. It used to be in your sandbox, but now at Draft:Samira Mustafaeva it will eventually be reviewed by an editor who will provide feedback and potentially publish the article. -Liancetalk/contribs 13:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Draft article John R D'Alton

Hi Liance Removing the article completely was a bit of a shock - I hope it is still available somewhere. I had checked with Engineers Australia which is one of the organisations shown on the Interpretation Panel and have had email correspondence with the key contributor. He told me that attributing the information to Engineers Australia would be sufficient. I would appreciate the opportunity to correspond with whoever removed the article to find out who else I should attribute to. Can you advise how I can do this?

Many thanks Paul — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul S Stuart (talkcontribs) 03:59, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Paul S Stuart, your article was removed because it contained information that violated Wikipedia's copyright rules so unfortunately you won't be able to retrieve it. Information must be copyright-free (or under an acceptable Creative Commons license) even if an organization allows attribution. If you're interested RHaworth deleted your article, but as I said earlier content on WP must be free use. Hope this helps. -Liancetalk/contribs 16:29, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Can I work on multiple new articles

Hi Liance, Thanks for moving my SWaCH article to the draft namespace from my sandbox. I will continue to work on it over there. I'm a newbie on Wikipedia and wanted to know if I could start creating another (or multiple) new articles in my sandbox while the AoC submission process is underway for my first (SWaCH) article. If so I haven't been able to figure out how to do this and would appreciate some guidance. Thanks, Swmwash — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swmwash (talkcontribs) 06:37, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Swmwash, you can definitely begin creating a new article draft, however I highly recommend creating them through the WP:Article wizard since they are placed in the Draft namespace, which makes it easier for reviewers to find and revise. If you wish to create more sandboxes you can always make a new page like User:Swmwash/sandbox2 which will generate a new page under your username. You can also blank the content from User:Swmwash/sandbox and start writing there if you'd like (it's currently a redirect). Please let me know if you have any more questions. -Liancetalk/contribs 16:22, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Liance, this really helps! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swmwash (talkcontribs) 06:39, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Draft article John R D'Alton

Hi Liance I contacted the person who removed my article due to a copyright issue through his email. He made his personal website and email available through the Wiki link so I thought I would use that to ask for help. His response was a bit curt and told me to use the Wiki channel with links. As I don't have anything up there at present I can't provide a link. He did at least send me a copy of my article he deleted.

My problem is this:

The Interpretation Panel information(a public display notice), that RHaworth found had some of the material on it that I used, was sent to me by a member of Engineers Australia (the professional body for engineers) who provided much of the content. I asked him whom I should acknowledge - all the signatories on it which included local and State Government organisations, or just Engineers Australia.

His response was: “I think you only need to attribute the panel contents to Engineers Australia.”

This is what I did.

If I now add the other organisations that had their logos on the panel, will that meet the standard?

The other issue that has been picked up is the portrait which is a photo taken by the same member of Engineers Australia who photographed an Interpretation Panel (maybe the same one). He said there was no information on the panel about the photo.

I need to know the correct protocol for handling all this.

This is my first attempt at a Wiki article and I want to get it (and hopefully others) right. I have discovered many tutorials but few are that helpful. Can you recommend one that covers all the basics?

Many thanks Paul — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul S Stuart (talkcontribs) 09:27, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

I'm not the most familiar with the copyright requirements of Wikipedia - WP:COPYRIGHT is pretty comprehensive and Wikipedia generally avoids using non-free content when available, unless it is under an appropriate open license. If it is possible for you to write original text for an article that would be highly preferred, even if you are given the permission to use text. If you need any additional assistance or specific copyright help you could always ask the WP:Help desk or WP:Teahouse. As for general help for a wiki article, WP:Your first article is a good start but as always don't be afraid to reach out to other editors and be bold. Biography of Michael H. L. Hecker

Dear Liance,

I believe that you have accidentally declined publication of my biography, thinking that it was a full-length article. (Please take into account that my biography is NOT an autobiography. It was originally proposed by my MIT professor and compiled by two of my former colleagues, who asked me to submit it.)

The text of my biography has already been reviewed and accepted by another editor (David notMD). With respect to my references, would it help if I included a list of my many publications? Please let me know specifically what I need to do so that you can remove your objection.

Sincerely, Michael H. L. Hecker. 7 April 2019. Michael H. L. Hecker (talk) 17:29, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

_______________
Hi Michael H. L. Hecker, the article you submitted to AfC at User:Michael H. L. Hecker/sandbox was denied because for an article on Wikipedia to be accepted it should have secondary, reliable sources. Wikipedia itself cannot be used as a reference, so it would help with your submission if you removed links to Wikipedia articles as references. Whenever you feel like your draft is ready again you can always resubmit it for review. A side note is that, even if your article isn't an autobiography its submission is generally frowned upon as the self-creation of an article can introduce problems with conflict of interest. Hope this help. -Liancetalk/contribs 19:40, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Not me

Liance - Not me. As a favor to a fellow MIT graduate, I looked at Hecker's draft. I repeatedly advised him that in my opinion what he submitted did not meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability. In part, I wrote that he was not referencing correctly, and that lots of content had no references. Hecker deleted all my comments on his Talk page. My last attempt at advice is at the bottom of my Talk page. David notMD (talk) 21:17, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Explanation

Dear David notMD and Liance,

David, I apologize for writing to Liance that you had approved the text of my biography. It was an incorrect assumption on my part. After you read my first draft, you advised me to provide references that would satisfy the notability requirements (for academics). Because, in my work, references are added at the end of an article, I thought that the text itself met with your approval. I did not understand what you meant. Now I know that the references have to be embedded in the text. That is why I have re-written and re-submitted my biography, hoping for a better outcome. Please excuse my former ignorance of “the rules”.

Sincerely, Michael H. L. Hecker. 15 April, 2019. Michael H. L. Hecker (talk) 15:38, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Copyright of Memes

Hi, My page on copyright of memes was recently rejected for the reason that the subject matter already exists. I have searched for it and I don't think the subject matter already exists. There is a page on the EU Directive on copyright but that is different from the current piece as this talks about copyright in US and India. This article, as a standalone piece, gives a lot of information which is still not available on Wikipedia in a robust manner. If I club it with the existing page of internet memes it could create a lot of confusion because it provides information on the legal dimension of memes which deserves a separate page for those wishing to understand that aspect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DoYouEvenMemeBro (talkcontribs) 05:30, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi DoYouEvenMemeBro, I still feel like your draft may be better as an addition to Internet meme as it currently doesn't include any information on copyright, and it would fit well. You're welcome to continue working on your draft if you feel that it is notable enough to warrant an article on it by itself, however. I would recommend changing the lead section of your article to more clearly reflect that it discusses copyright on Internet memes, not Internet memes in itself. Hope this helps. -Liancetalk/contribs 17:52, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Skropper (talk) 19:34, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback on my proposed page 'Steve Kropper' Can I tap you for some guidance

I did some searches to document third party sources.

For a search on Steve Kropper and the company I founded WindPole, there are 10,300 results of which I believe about 500 are relevant to my work developing data sets that help finance wind power farms. For a search on Steve Kropper and the company I founded Domania, there are 11,800 results of which 1500 are relevant to the way I changed consumer access to real estate information. For a search on Steve Kropper and immigration, there are 45,000 results of which I’d guess over 10,000 are relevant to my work asking whether our immigration policies hurt poor Americans. For a search on Steve Kropper and Parallel Wireless there are 10,600 results of which a few thousand are news, video and other coverage of the pioneering work I have done bringing broadband communications to the public safety sector. There are only 27 news stories about how I got 75 legislators in Massachusetts to ride public transit on the last day of winter to make them aware of the importance of proper system funding. There are thousands of other search results on my work in energy conservation, mass transit, advocacy for the Charles River in Boston, advocacy for children’s welfare.

Is the kind of citations you were taking about? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skropper (talkcontribs) 19:36, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Lonnie McFadden page

Hi, Liance: Many months ago I worked with a wiki-a-thon hosted by the library at the art museum in Kansas City, which promoted the creation of Wikipedia posts on African American artists from Kansas City. I submitted a page now called Draft: Lonnie McFadden. It was reviewed by Strauss in the House, and declined. The reason given was lack of inline citations. I corresponded with the reviewer and he said put in more inline citations. I did so. More than two months have passed. If I had a different reviewer would my piece be published? I just wonder if I've ended up on a dead end street, and if there is a way for me to have my piece indexed. Thanks for your help understanding what is going on. Request on 16:22:18, 15 August 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Jamesharrower

Hi Liance, thanks for your feedback. I'm keen to learn a bit more, have you got examples of the type of sources that you would consider significant? Businessinsider.com for example?

Jamesharrower (talk) 16:22, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jamesharrower, Business Insider should work as a source in establishing notability and coverage. I took a look at the sources in your draft, and the reference to the James Derby website should be removed since it isn't independent of the subject itself. In addition press releases generally aren't considered to be good reference material, and many of the references seem to be issued or affiliated with the subject in some way so I would recommend finding sources that are independent of the subject. Lastly, your username seems to indicate a conflict of interest with the subject, so I would highly recommend you to WP:DISCLOSE your relationship. Hope this helped! -Liancetalk/contribs 17:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

I want to request specific reasons to decline Analizo article!

Analizo is a long term maintaned static analysis project, developed as free software and used for many researchers over the world, the Analizo draft submitted is much better and has much more reliable informations then others articles of others tools like Analizo, just as example check these articles:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PVS-Studio

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SofCheck_Inspector

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sotoarc

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagix_4D

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiuwan

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Yetus

None of then has the Quality of the current Analizo Draft has, only to cite a few ones, see more articles on the list of static analysis tools at:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tools_for_static_code_analysis

You will find there many articles and tools accepted on Wikipedia with worse quality then Analizo article Draft.

Also, how the references added on the Draft is weak and miss of idependency of the subject? The paper added as reference is a paper accepted and presented in one of the most important congress of this subject in Brazil, the paper added as reference was presented at CBSOFT 2010 conference, the most traditional conference about SOFTWARE (including software engineering, computer science, and so on), refence here http://wiki.dcc.ufba.br/CBSOFT/AcceptedTools

For sure the Article about Analizo needs improvements, but you can't say that miss independent and reliable information, as pointed here here is lots of articles about tools like Analizo with worse and much few reliable information.

Please, review the article again, thanks.

Hi there. I rejected your draft because I felt that it did not show notability, as there were only two references, one a Github repository and the other one linking to the subject's website. Most of the articles you listed with "worse quality" have independent references that show notability and coverage to some extent (and some of them also do not meet Wikipedia's preferred standards for notability), however your draft only included one non-independent source (as a github repo usually isn't counted). See WP:GNG for more information. If you feel that I did not adequately review your article feel free to submit again, however I highly recommend you add more references to establish coverage or notability as it would greatly improve the draft's likelihood of being accepted into the mainspace. Hope this helped. -Liancetalk/contribs 18:52, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Draft: 1988 in Punjab

"The proposed article does not have sufficient content to require an article of its own, but it could be merged into the existing article at Punjab. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, you are welcome to add that information yourself. Thank you."

These two events (flood and operation black thunder) were important in 1988 but they don't define Punjab. Punjab is the home of Indus valley civilization, home of panini, Taxila university, frontier of Alexander's farthest campaign, battle field of Aryans, mongols, afghans, iranians, arabs, english, sikh, maratha and turkic tribes, home of green revolution, Largest migration in human history How can you merge these events in Punjab article? Wikipedia is not perfect pedia. Later others can add to article. Serjatt6 (talk) 13:37, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Serjatt6. At the time of review, I did not feel that the draft had enough content to warrant a separate article from the main article (Punjab), as it only had a short mention of a flood, and this snippet of information would be better off merged into the primary article. Generally, articles for certain years in locations are more fleshed out (see 1988 in the United Kingdom for example). If you feel that you have added enough content and would like another review please feel free to resubmit your draft. Thank you. -Liancetalk/contribs 16:03, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

The article I submitted on Brandon Cahill aka Vic Sage was not accepted. One of the comments asked me to remove all references to Apple Music and Spotify - however here is an article where the references link to both Apple Music and Spotify: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futuristic_(rapper). Additionally Spotify's Viral 100 and Viral 50 charts have become reliable indicators of music that is being shared digitally; the site is not just a place to post and listen to music - it shows when artist's songs are being shared locally and globally to a higher degree than others. Apple Charts also show when an album has risen to their top most downloaded albums - which was the case with the album in this article "Low Key." Please reconsider the use of Spotify and Apple Music as they are sources that show the status of a musical artist as producing and disseminating songs digitally and that are gaining more traction than other digitally disseminated songs - both in the US and globally. Thank you.

ITLRosanna (talk) 14:25, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi ITLRosanna. Although the article you linked does have references to Apple Music and other media streaming websites they are generally not needed and are not usable in establishing coverage/notability. Please make sure your subject meets WP:MUSICBIO and WP:GNG through your other references - this is the most important criteria you should keep in mind while writing your draft. Hope this helps. -Liancetalk/contribs 16:09, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

creating the page Film and Religion

Dear Liance, thank you for your email. I am a Wordpress blogger, and I thought that it is worth to give wikipedia a try. It't clear that the problem in deleting the post is that I used some of my own writing from wordpress in the page. This might cause a real struggle to me as I will need to paraphrase alot. I have already did in this page that I was creating but indeed there was a copy and paste. I did put the subject in a new format here, and added new points. I am willing to fix the errors so please let me know if anything else I can do :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo mohanna (talkcontribs) 19:03, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Liance,

You appear to be quite busy so I will be brief. 1. Thanks for moving my proposed page from the sandbox. 2. I understand and support neutrality and respect full disclosure of COI. 3. And, I believe that what my company is accomplishing is unique and meets Wiki's notability standard. If you can spare the time, I would greatly appreciate your opinion on that last point. Thanks again, DriverSafety (talk) 13:59, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi DriverSafety. My advice to you would to be to ensure that you have references that show significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable secondary sources. The inclusion of multiple references that demonstrate notability (see WP:NCORP) increases the likelihood that your article will be accepted. In addition, make sure you clearly declare your COI on your user page in order to meet Wikipedia guidelines. -Liancetalk/contribs 21:09, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Liance. I have tried and failed to declare my COI on my user page because I do not know how to do it. I thought I had, and then what I added was no longer there when I next looked. Regarding the multiple references, I included several peer reviewed scientific publications that report on the third party independent researcher program evaluations that my company supports to validate our training programs. This process is part of the concurrent engineering approach our company invests in and which, I believe, makes it notable for a company of our small size. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DriverSafety (talkcontribs) 04:41, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

66.165.177.7 (talk) 16:39, 30 August 2019 (UTC) Hi Liance, Have you been assigned to edit my proposed article about Sherwood Ross? If not, will somebody contact me at some point to discuss any revisions? I am in the process of trying to obtain rights to certain historic photos from AP and Getty Images.

I have also disclosed on my Talk Page that Sherwood Ross is my father and I may be considered to have a COI. Am I required to take any further action in the interest of full disclosure. If so, please advise.

Thank you, Karl

Hi 66.165.177.7, currently the article Draft:Sherwood Ross has been submitted for review so that means an editor will review it for inclusion in the wiki. Please note that any images uploaded to the wiki must be under a license that is freely licensed with no exceptions (see WP:IUPC). Make sure to note a COI on your user page by declaring your affiliation to the subject clearly. Hope this helped. -Liancetalk/contribs 21:06, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
