Newpage Patrol

Leebo how did you and the others become a member of the newpage patrol i want to join User:Physik

User:MittRomney

Although I'm not The Mitt Romney, I didn't realize he was the 2008 presidential candidate. I was thinking up a username, and being canadian, thought Mitt Romney was nice, so I used it. I looked it up after you posted and apologize, so i leave you with the decision of what to do.

The 'user report' line isn't there. It's gone.

I'm re-adding it. Or trying to. HalfShadow 21:10, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

But I was there. All there was was the bot report line. Something weird's going on. HalfShadow 21:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

thanks

thanks for voting on my Rfa, didn't work out though --Munkee madness 20:55, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Further note no User:MittRomney

I was on Wikipedia under a different username, almost to the five hundred mark in edits, when my email was hacked, inadvertantly with my Gmail, wikipedia username, etc. I simply made this account for trying to get back that one, but its proving difficult, as i am told to go to the IRC channel, in which no one talks. It's tiring, and that username,User:AeomMai, would be a perfect replcaement, to my replacement of it.

I'm dropping in to let you know I've created a Volleyball WikiProject. I come to you because I've seen you editing volleyball-related articles. If you you want, check out the project and let me know if you'd be willing to help out. BrianZ(talk) 20:38, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted edit count

You can do this without admin help; first query the database using this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/query.php?what=contribcounter&titles=User:Leebo to find your total number of edits (the total will be returned inside <count> tags), and then subtract your edit count obtained by any other counter. (query.php and api.php allow non-developers to perform various 'safe' queries on the database, most of which are available to non-admins.) --ais523 14:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Speaking of adminship...

My offer to nominate you still stands, too. Let me know if you've reconsidered. -- Merope 13:41, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think I'm ready to accept your offer. I'm going to be busy this weekend and early next week, so perhaps later next week would be a good time. Leebo T/C 13:47, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Rock on! That'll give me time to prepare your nomination. Just e-mail me or message when you're good to go -- it should be when you can devote the next few days to watching the nom unfold, since, well, it's a right nasty process at times. Lots of questions. I'm sure it'll go better for you than it did for me, but, still. -- Merope 13:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're right, it's not really easy to tell what might happen on any given RfA, so I'll be sure to watch it develop closely. It's always unfortunate when people begin to oppose a user based on their conduct within the RfA itself. Anyway, I'll be sure to let you know when I'm ready. Thanks for taking the time! If you have any questions for me while you prepare the nomination, you can shoot me an email. Leebo T/C 13:55, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Leebo, there isn't actually a specific part of the username policy that states otherwise and yes I was aware when reporting him that he was not recently deceased nor alive but it seemed inappropriate,I was in the wrong there. If he/she responds to the {{UsernameConcern}} then we could probably sort it out, however I think we should just AGF here, thanks for your time. Oh, please, are you saying it will cool down if I agree with you? Spare me further comments on my talk page, and I will spare you the same. KP Botany 18:01, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Comments like "this is disgusting" (referring to people disagreeing with you) are simply not helpful, and don't do anything to promote collaborative discussion. That was what I meant, though I will respect your wish to discuss it on my talk page rather than yours. Leebo T/C 18:10, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, good grief, the comment was the user name is disgusting, not the disagreement. And, no, it can be discussed on the topic page, where it belongs, not here, not on my talk page. KP Botany 18:36, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
My apologies for misunderstanding your edit summary. It's my opinion that the name can be discussed calmly without adjectives such as "disgusting." You may disagree. I would ask that you do not use an exasperated tone (oh please, good grief, etc.) for the same reason. Leebo T/C 18:42, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

kingseason has reposted many of the articles deleted by others and added new material justifying his behavior. can it be re-edited. (I am having difficulty figuring out how to get this letter to you.) marciamariaMarciamaria 15:37, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't have time to review his edits right now, but he should not be editing the article (beyond correcting non-controversial and verifiable facts) due to the inherent conflict of interest and you should also refrain from editing the article for the time being as well. I will read through it, and perhaps contact some of the people who helped review it the first time. Once that's done, I'll talk to Kingseason again and remind him that he shouldn't be editing the article. Leebo T/C 15:42, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I did add some material about two months ago. I am sorry if I was not supposed to do that. I did not touch the delete discussion page, as it said not to. By the way, if you search way back to the very beginning (checking every possible item on the search page while searching for kingseason) you will see that kingseason's first mention of robert ira lewy makes it clear that lewy is kingseason. Only from the second communication onward does he begin to refer to himself in the third person. I hope that by writing this, that first communication will not be deleted by kingseason/lewy. marciamariaMarciamaria 15:50, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's not that you're "not supposed to," but that it's a lot easier to keep the conflict minimized if you two aren't changing each other's edits. Again, I'll look into it, and possible reduce it greatly to just the main points. It's bloated beyond a proper scope. Leebo T/C 15:58, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

robert ira lewy

Thanks again. I did figure out that it wasn't appropriate for me to change his edits, so I have never done that; this is why I wrote you today. marciamariaMarciamaria 16:03, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your RfA

I took the liberty to add an optional question, beware I made it a bit tricky since you already got a lot of support ;). You don't have to answer it of course, but where is the fun if you don't have a question where you will preview your answer 10 times before hitting save? ;) Best of luck with your RfA, I am sure you will pass and that you will make a great admin! -- lucasbfr talk 07:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I did my best to try to respond properly to each possible encounter. Thank you for the question, it was a good exercise and I hope that it gives you the confidence that I understand the applicable policies. Leebo T/C 13:11, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I might reuse that question once in a while. I was confident you would make a good admin beforehand (I almost !voted at the same time I added the question) but I was feeling that some challenge wouldn't hurt. That is the kind of troubles we run into every day (one ended at WP:DRV). I don't necessarily agree at 100% with all your answers (the Kevin one is a bitch because it is not gibberish) but your answers were well-thought and show that you understand the job :) -- lucasbfr talk 13:26, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the Kevin one would have been a lot different if you hadn't indicated the CEO of IBM as the notability claim. It's actually quite similar to the "obvious hoax" example below it, and I may treat them similarly in some cases. Leebo T/C 13:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Manga

Hi; firstly, thank you for your input onPsoloquoise. I have restored the article, essentially to get a second opinion; I expect it to get re-deleted, but I could be wrong.

I am really messaging you because I see that you have a serious interest in manga. As a relatively new admin, I have had some difficulty in deciding on some borderline cases at WP:CSD (erring usually on the side of caution). Tell me, if you will; are there any NN:MANGA guidelines? I know that this is a blue-link, but it directs to a page in Norwegian. I find both long articles about manga series, and episodes, and also one-line stubs about manga characters. I feel the urge - so far resisted - to delete the character stubs, but would be grateful for guidance on what, in this field, you would consider notable. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 14:59, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is a tough area, and I don't think there are any manga guidelines specifically right now, but there are a few stanards I keep in mind that I think should be helpful. These are off the top of my head kinda, but they are based on existing WP:N guidelines.
A manga is likely notable if
  • it is published by a major publisher (such as Kodansha or Shogakukan);
  • it is licensed for distribution internationally (such as by Tokyopop or Viz Media);
  • it is adapted into a live action or animated movie/television series;
  • it has received a major award manga/graphic novel award (such as the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award or Quill Award).
Here are some things that tend not to be notable but may get articles written about them:
  • Doujinshi - they look professional quite often, but unless the author is famous (such as Yoshitoshi ABe) the doujinshi is probably not notable.
  • Characters not from Pokemon, Bleach, Naruto or any of the other hugely popular series. Unfortunately, this is where it gets really tough and AfDs can turn into fan mobs. The community still doesn't really agree on episode and character articles, so I think we still need to use caution with those. Leebo T/C 15:21, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
So with these it's either WP:AfD or ignore, but not {{speedy}}, right? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 17:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I think the characters and episodes probably can't be speedied, because of the lack of a consensus on what constitutes a claim to notability for those, but you can always try AfD. Just be ready for varying levels of fandom that those AfDs tend to attract. I'm sure you're familiar with that though. Leebo T/C 17:23, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Psoloquoise

This article has now been deleted by User:Metros, so your suggestion is probably redundant, unless it resurrects once again.

Re: Pl0x

Hi, I was thinking about recreating the article as a redirect to List of Internet slang phrases. Seeing as how you are the most recent deleter of the article, I thought it would be best to notify you. What do you think? Thanks.--Flamgirlant 18:42, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pl0x is not currently in the List of Internet slang phrases, so I would advise you to find a source for the word first, if it's possible, before creating the redirect or adding it to the article. If there is a reliable source for "Pl0x", then I think a redirect and addition to that article would be appropriate. Leebo T/C 18:47, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Even though there are over 80,000 hits in a google search, it seems to all be usage of the word, and not describing it. Well, except for the first hit, which is urbandictionary, but that isn't a reliable source, right?--Flamgirlant 18:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Correct, urbandictionary is not a reliable source. I don't doubt that it's used quite a bit (since it is in fact an Internet slang word I've seen before), but a reliable source would have to discuss the word itself to be used for verification in the list. Perhaps those who contribute to the article regularly could assist in finding a source; try asking at Talk:List of Internet slang phrases. Leebo T/C 18:54, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ben Alirez bio article

Hi there Leebo,

Attached below is a link to a review of one of Ben Alirez's contributions to the Bluford Series books by Townsend Press. This third party review was given by the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy. Please let me know if this is sufficient for a Ben Alirez bio article. He has also authored numerous screen plays, articles, and stories. Thanks again for your time and consideration. Have a good day!

Mark Bamford

I'm not sure why you removed the db tag. You commented about the author adding a false trivia section. And yet, the page was created by him and only editing by him - what's more, the page is about himself, and has some serious credibility issues if he's going to add that type of thing. The Evil Spartan 15:06, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The first entry in the article is just the bio. This is not patent nonsense. The nonsensical information was then added. If it's a COI or unverifiable bio, that's different from patent nonsense. The director did write and direct Cape of Good Hope, as verified by several movie websites. In light of that, I opted to strip what was clearly nonsense. I'll add applicable style tags to the article now. Leebo T/C 15:19, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just don't get it, I guess. It seems like you're feeding the trolls. If someone creates a crap article, then it's a crap article. The intent was bad, and I sure would wonder about verifiability problems with the rest of the article. In any case, do accept someone's crap submission (about himself, nonetheless) is definitely feeding the trolls. A spade is a.... The Evil Spartan 15:26, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
With a quick search, I've found two news stories that appear to corroborate nearly all of the factual information of the bio ([1] and [2]). I'll write it and cite the sources. The idea is not to say "You made a crap article, but not all of it was crap, so we'll keep some of it." The idea is that I saw the potential for a proper article and decided to not delete it at that time. I'll see to it myself that it becomes a proper article. Leebo T/C 15:37, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, what are you doing?

After editors had established a consensus on the name of the article Controversies about the word niggardly, some guy came in and changed it to Niggardly. I changed it back pending any future consensus if other editors wanted to chime in. Now some third editor and you have changed it back. What the hell are you doing. Revert the edit and respect consensus. Now. Noroton 17:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well that was fast. Thanks. I think this is a result of miscommunication. Dexter, I thought, was referring to magazine articles, not Wikipedia articles (I've been quoting from some in another Wikipedia arti-- page that I'm working on). I'll review that policy. Thanks. Noroton 17:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I and other editors decided a while back that we want it precisely there, as per the talk page. Three separate editors, acting independently, commented on the talk page of the editor who first moved it back to Niggardly. Again: we want it at "Controversies about the word niggardly". Thanks again. Noroton 17:25, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Respectfully yours, AmnonMikeCohen24.108.67.174 03:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ben Alirez bio article

Hey Leebo,

Have you had a chance to reconsider the Ben Alirez bio article?

Thanks, Kevbo123 17:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted Page

Hi Leebo,

Thank you replying to my question about the deleted page. I am currently learning how to create a "talk" page for the article so that readers/administrators can communicate with me about it. I also just sent my email preferences so that they can reach me this way as well.

You wrote: She indicated that the text came from multiple places, but I'm not sure exactly where. Does this make sense to you?

I used several sources, so this is true for the facts, but not the actual text. Yes, I wrote the article myself. My partner, Samantha Mitchell, edited it for me, and she added a few excerpts from her articles, which are all cited on the page.

Is there a way I can communicate with the administrator who had deleted this or read her message about it?

Well, I hope that I using this talk tool correctly. I didn't see any directions for using html or anything, so I am just typing my message.

Thank you again,

Cake decorating

The article was deleted originally by Merope under criterion G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, meaning the text was a copyright violation. She indicated that the text came from multiple places, but I'm not sure exactly where. Does this make sense to you? Did the text come from another place or did you write it in your own words for Wikipedia? Leebo T/C 13:20, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I may have been in error there. Several sentences came up in my Google search, but I didn't check it very thoroughly. Feel free to restore. The article may need to be reworked, though, as the editor has a clear conflict of interest. -- Merope 13:40, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re RFA

While some editors may become frustrated by the use of edits counts, I've never seen the candidate become frustrated. If one asked for extra, I would give it. However, I try not oppose for alot of reasons, since some people consideer that biting. A think a more important question though, is if edits counts aren't fair game in an RFA, why is a link to an editing counting tool provided? Spikko

what was the reason that you deleted spikko? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rubikiz (talkcontribs) 15:04, June 28, 2007

It was promotional. See Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Leebo T/C 15:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I find odd, that a Company such as "SKYPE" (which is clearly violating the Wikipedia rights for advertisement, and still is being published) while you erase a movement with no profit goals, and with unique platform developed by over 1,000 open source users and engineers, how strange is that.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rubikiz (talkcontribs) 15:13, June 28, 2007

The Skype article is not advertising. Firstly, Skype is a notable product/company, and many independent sources have written about it. The article was not written by employees promoting Skype. Also, the article is neutral, containing non-biased descriptions of the product and details of its legal troubles. Spikko was written by you with the purpose of promoting it. If other sources have written about Spikko and someone unrelated to it takes notice, it could have an article. Leebo T/C 15:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
