re: troublesome user

Hi Leebo. Thanks for tha answer on the help page. The user did all of this today on the stress (medicine) page. I'm still kind of a newbie on Wikipedia, so I'm looking for a suggested process to follow in this case. (Looking through all of the templates/warnings/etc. is still a bit overwhelming, and I don't want to accidentally overreact because of lack of familiarity with the commonly accepted practices here.) Thanks for the help. --- Taroaldo 21:11, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. After I posted the above comment, I noticed that Kesh has already cleaned up the page in question. --- Taroaldo 21:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

YOU

  • Why don't you spend your time on some other article, you have already killed this one. Within minutes you decided to nominate an article about something you obviously know nothing about for deletion. You have been granted authority to make judgments and destroy anything you choose within Wikipedia; how satisfying for you and how sad for Wikipedia. You appear to be self centered and closed minded and your youth and inexperience does not serve Wikipedia. Wikipedia would be better off if it purged you. You are no better than a computer virus wrecking havoc all through Wikipedia. You have abused your authority, and I would like to believe it is only a matter of time before they discover the damage you are really doing to their product. I only wish I could be there to see it happen. I will however take comfort in the knowledge that, in time, it will happen. Now, I have expressed what has been on my mind for the past week. I am done responding to you and no further responses from me will be forthcoming.

Ailde 12:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The issue here is that the article violates just about every one of Wikipedia's core policies. Any administrator would treat it the same way. Also, I have not exerted any administrator authority throughout this process. All of my actions could have been performed by any Wikipedian, admin or not; as such, it's not possible for me to abuse authority I'm not using. Leebo T/C 15:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Also, you speak of my youth and inexperience, and I can only assume you mean in relation to endeavors similar to your township's strategic plan. In this regard, you would be incorrect, as I spent the early months of 2007 petitioning the residents of Richmond, Rhode Island to get a proposal for writing a town charter to referendum. We were successful in getting enough signatures, leading to a vote that initiated a charter writing committee. I had to ask hundreds of people for their support and explain the process that they would be supporting. I know what small town government committees are like, probably more so than the average 21 year old. So, please, if you have any more comments to make that only rely on your assumptions, just think them and don't post them. Thanks. Leebo T/C 15:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leebo,

Question about History pages

As I was writing a comment in a user:talk page, I got spontaneously logged out of Wikipedia without realizing it (probably something to do with IE or Zonealarm) and so the talk page's history lists the comment as coming from an IP. Is there any way to correct a History entry to show my proper userid rather than the IP? Thanks. --- Taroaldo 19:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Everything that is currently on that page, are fact about the creators and the webcomic. I have removed any opinion. The only ones that are involved or closely involved with WIP are myself and Dave. We had a listing within just WIP at one point on here and someone deleted it. Yes. Quite persistent. I'm about to just create the article myself... Other new users are going to get lost in this discussion! Leebo T/C 00:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
That is awesome of you. The truth is (~*turns her face away ashamed*~) I truly don't have any idea what "Anime" is, I thought it was some kind of video game, but it seems it is some movie thing or something. I'd be really the wrong person to create the article! And, you'll be a hero, to the editor requesting it, and to me! lol. Thanks! ArielGold 00:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Edit to add: I really felt bad declining all those submissions, but I really couldn't in good conscience accept without good sources. Finally, I just left it up to others, and commented on the issues and directed reviewers to the Help Desk, and still it wasn't enough, so I can understand her frustration, lol. ArielGold 00:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Anime is pretty much just cartoons in Japan, except it's a bit broader than just what's aimed at children here in the United States. Tamao Satō is a voice actress, and anime voice actresses can reach levels of popularity in Japan similar to our biggest movie stars. It's easy to see why the user is frustrated with convincing us she belongs here. Leebo T/C 00:25, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well I could tell the actress was notable, but the way the submission was given, there was no justification for it, and no sources to verify, (blood type, favorite movie, lol, typical fan site stuff). So I really had to follow the rules of WP:AFC, no matter what I might have thought personally. I still think you're awesome for taking the time to do this, I doubt I'd have been able to figure out what was what, lol. ArielGold 00:28, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whatever. Yamakiri made an attack on another person, I removed the attack and warned him/her that they shouldn't do that again. Corvus cornix 20:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

And confusion ensued due to the vague template. That's my point. I'm not commenting on the actual removal or attack. If a template says things you don't mean, you probably shouldn't use it. Leebo T/C 20:46, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Where did I say I didn't mean what I said? Corvus cornix 21:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I was referring to the fact that uw-attack is for attack pages as opposed to uw-npa being for violations of WP:NPA. In general, templates tend to try to cover all their bases, with lots of vague language. They often direct people to the sandbox or the welcome page. If the template doesn't say exactly what I mean, I write my own message, that's all. Leebo T/C 22:04, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Michael Grandage

Hi Lee

Thank you for your message.

I work for Michael Grandage in the UK (CMP acts as his agent here) and have been asked by him to edit his entry in Wikipedia as it needs updating. He also asked for the link to an article from British theatre industry newspaper, The Stage to be deleted.

Unfortunately, this article contains inaccurate and misleading information for which the publication has since issued an apology.

In this instance, we would regard the change as a helpful correction rather than a "conflict of interest". Additionally, all we would like to do is update the list so that his most recent productions are included.

I'd be grateful if you would confirm whether the above changes are possible. I'm new to the editing process and apologise in advance if I have misunderstood the system!

Many thanks Jo Allan —Preceding unsigned comment added by CMP Limited (talkcontribs) 14:47, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lee Thanks for your reply. I understand your point entirely. Unfortunately, in this case what would normally be considered a reliable source (i.e. a theatre journalist for a respected publication) was markedly unreliable and as such we would be grateful if, for accuracy of information the link to the article could remain deleted. As for further changes, I will be sure to back them up with press articles from the US and the UK. I hope this will suffice. Thank you again for your help. Question

You have a better command of policy than I do. Just curious what your take on User:Ryan Rasmussen this page is. Thanks. Into The Fray T/C 15:26, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The page was basically an attempt to write an ad-like encyclopedia entry without including it in the encyclopedia, created by User:RRasmussen. I deleted the page and left a note on User talk:RRasmussen explaining that it's an inappropriate use of userspace. Leebo T/C 19:21, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info, appreciated. Into The Fray T/C 20:47, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leebo - request to resolve dispute

The page User:Ryan Rasmussen has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This is because it was an advertisement for an individual designed to resemble an encyclopedia entry.

Additionally, it was not created by User:Ryan Rasmussen, but by you. This is an inappropriate use of userspace (see Wikipedia:User page). You can leave me a note on my talk page if you have any questions. Leebo T/C 19:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Leebo,

Thanks for the explanation (and not simply deleting without reproach.)

To solve the first issue, I would like to author the page under the correct username, Ryan Rasmussen. I inadvertently created two usernames under the same email address.

To solve the second issue of questionable content, I ask that you help me to understand what components you consider adverts. I am not marketing another company, nor myself. My volunteer work with the Long Now and virtual communities has generated a great deal of interest resulting in interviews. I only list my company for full disclosure, and links to the interviews to source the statements made in the bio.

Thanks, Ryan

Leebo - page resubmitted under correct user

Leebo,

My user page that was deleted has been resubmitted under the correct username. Please contact me with any concerns. I would like my userpage to be verifiable, but not misleadingly encyclopaedic.

Thanks, Ryan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryan Rasmussen (talkcontribs) 03:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ryan, because you posted this both here and on my talk page, I'm going to respond only here. My response is brief; I was not familiar enough with policy to feel confident in addressing it without seeking direction. Hence, I turned to Leebo, who is an admin here and much better acquainted with the policies, as I knew from seeing his work. I'm always given a little pause when considering the user space (as opposed to the main article space). I'll leave it to Leebo to respond regarding your concerns, but I'll be watching.  :) Into The Fray T/C 03:53, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I replied on User talk:RRasmussen. If I'm wrong about the intent of the page, then it's probably not a big deal. The red flags were the fact that it's written as an encyclopedia article and on a user page that wasn't the same as the user creating it. Leebo T/C 03:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Questionable conclusions to my contributions

Leebo, I need some assistance. I am a producer for a radio station and have found Wikipedia very useful in collecting media information on several occasions. I have created my own user name and have been happy to return the favor by creating contributing entries. Lately when I have been going into giving updates I have found a whopping 7 out of 10 pages have either been redirected completely while overlapping my work, subject to deletion because I made the page for Vanity ( makes no sense), or is questioned because there is no source for the article. I still have the pages in my history and would like them input permanently into wikipedia without tampering. Please help me construct the articles with a tag line source name that is considered reputable as I am an originator of verifiable information that is broadcasted through our medium of communication as an American radio station. We are a source for information and the articles should be treated as such. (I will give details to the articles or additional information if needed) .Really I think I am simply overseeing a core rule on signing the articles with a source that is not located on the internet or needed which is why there needs to be an exeption made here.

User:Mahadevmadhavnidhi

Not sure if you remember or not, but I brought up this user on the help desk a little over a week ago, and you blanked his user page, as it had inappropriate content. However, I notice that the user's talk page also contains this same content, and I was wondering if you would mind taking care of this as well. Thanks! GlassCobra 16:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Mokkavatnet

Sorry about the confusion, the article was nominated by mistake. I'm currently removing the afd tag and notification on the user's page. Thanks --OES23 19:24, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dracut, Massachusetts

In response to your message to me regarding my post on the Dracut, Ma wiki page, I made no damaging edits to the webpage. Dracut mass is pronounced Drayklit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maris09 (talkcontribs)

I very much doubt you expect a New Englander to believe that. Leebo T/C 22:48, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're from Conn. not Mass. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maris09 (talkcontribs) 22:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're quite observant. Leebo T/C 22:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

WHAT?!

You can't delete my page! So, no. I don't want you to delete my page. It would be like banning me.

If you say I included my full name, I didn't, because my middle name isn't listed.Kitty53 23:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm....

I already took care of it, Leebo. Thanks for offering, anyway.Kitty53 23:04, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

ah.. so that's made-up as well... it all becomes a bit clearer. --Fredrick day 21:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it's safe to say that if someone comes to the help desk asking about, or mentioning, Draafstein, we know who it is. Leebo T/C 21:40, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Underconstruction tag

There is no problem, I've untagged the page, it was not really necessary.

About what we've talk on the Help Desk, I've seen on the French WP that a tool can tell us how many time a page has been display. I will tell you more later. PS: Please pardon my bad English. Martial BACQUET 15:59, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question about copyright/posting

Hello,

I have a question. I posted a new page on the company I work for (Body1) and it was removed due to copyright issues apparently. The text of this entry was written by our internal writers...so I don't understand how this infringes on copyright. If I do need "permission", it is not clear to me how I get it.

Many thanks, Erin Emoore5186 17:05, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Granting Wikipedia permission

Hi again,

I want to grant Wikipedia permission to include info. from Body1's Web site: www.body1.com (www.body1.net is the corporate site). Please contact emoore@body1.com to verify.

Thanks, Erin Emoore5186 19:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Posting article question

Thanks for responding to me. But the entry I added isn't copied from another source...I wrote it about Body1 for this wikipedia article. It is about the company I work for, Body1. I don't understand what the problem is? Do I need to fill out this form below? My Body1 email is emoore@body1.com. Does someone else from my company need to contact Wikipedia about this? Thank you! Emoore5186 21:32, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Still confused

This below entry was put for speedy deletion due to copyright infringement (now that it is a neutral article). I am trying to give Wikipedia permission to keep this here, since Body1 gives Wikipedia permission to print content from and about the Body1 Network. Please let me know what I need to do to grant Wikipedia permission. Thanks.Emoore5186 15:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Body1, Inc. (Body1.net) is a medical education and marketing company that educates targeted populations and provides interactive tools for pharmaceutical, medical device manufacturers and biotechnology organizations. The company is supported by academic advisors at educational institutions, as well as experts in the fields of sales and marketing, communications, and interactive learning. Body1, Inc is comprised of two divisions: The Body1 Network and Body1 Interactive, and has received multiple awards for excellence in online health.

The Body1 Network empowers health consumers through advertiser-sponsored health knowledge cooperatives. These KnowCos™ include anatomy-oriented (Heart1.com, Knee1.com), condition-oriented (Fibroids1.com, Reflux1.com) and category-oriented (Dental1.org) portals. The Body1 Network has approximately five million visits per year and is accredited by the Health on the Net (HON) Foundation. The Body1 Network is host to a series of “deep sites,” ones with a specific focus such as Shoulder1.com, as opposed to broader sites such as WebMD or AOL Health.

Body1 Interactive serves life science firms. Body1's customers include: Boston Scientific, Genzyme, Johnson & Johnson, Straumann, EMPI, and Cytyc. Body1 was issued a patent from the government of China in 2006, and from the United States in 2007, for the creation and use of an online technology used to better suit the needs of the consumer, matching their interests and queries to correct and relevant information, as well as to users with similar concerns. Body1 is the first site of its category to receive approval for the use of this software.

Interactive Learning Services from Body1 are used to accelerate training for sales executives, clinicians and consumers. Body1’s medical content is supplemented with text, 3D animations, online statistics, graphics and video. The QuEST™ consumer assessment technology is used for online quizzes. It is also available in Spanish, Japanese, German and Chinese.

In addition to interactive patient and physician communities, Body1 provides multimedia tools for online medical education programs (the eForums suite). It also provides accredited physicians with complementary websites through Doctors1.org. Body1’s programs all accelerate the adoption of novel approaches that enhance human health.

YOU and YOUR edits

YOU reverted my supposed vandalism [2] claiming that I should "experiment" in a sandbox. Well, dear sir, if you would take you head out of the "sand" for a few seconds, you might well see that I was editing in a sandbox, ie: User:SineBot/Sandbox. Prehaps you should think before you accuse people of crimes they havent comitted. Picture of a cloud 12:59, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Something tells me you aren't really clueless about why you were warned. Most people have sandboxes; you can't go to someone else's, remove all their text and call them a dipshit. But you already knew that. Leebo T/C 14:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
A sandbox is a sandbox, right? Well, now I find out that's not the case, and I've learned from it. Would have been nice if you'd given me the benefit of the doubt before labeling me a vandal. Picture of a cloud 10:40, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the nice welcome :) I am sorry for using the wrong sandbox. I will indever to read those help pages and not make mistakes like that again. Picture of a cloud 11:56, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Advice request for objectivity in stub creation
