Deletion of File:IMERA-LOGO-sq2.png

I, JohnCD. You deleted File:IMERA-LOGO-sq2.png based on request of uploader under G7 criteria. I am not sure if G7 applies here. This file is a logo of Imera Power and as such can't have the authorship. This logo is in use by Imera Power article. Earlier today the same user tried to speedy delete this article and all other information about this company in other articles. The speedy deletion was contested and right now the Imera Power's article is nominated for deletion. The existence of the logo in Wikipedia could be justified only in case if the article about this company survives AfD. Why was the page for Bill Parmelee deleted?

Hi, I have been scouring the internet for information on my Grand Father William J. Parmelee, owner of Honda Cycles in CT and former racer. I found the page and was disappointed to find it was deleted. I have not found it in the deletion logs and want to know why it was deleted. Please get back to me. The whole text of that article was "Bill Parmalee was one of the first Honda dealers and Honda motorbike racers, winning second on a 1956/57 Honda motorbike in a race." Because articles about living people are so sensitive, and we need to get them right, we have a rule that an article about a living person, or somebody who from the dates might be living, will be deleted if after ten days no reliable source has been provided to confirm what it says. That is what happened here.
If an article is to be kept in the longer term, it would need to say rather more than that, and to establish notability, which means giving references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".
If you can provide published sources about your grandfather (I'm afraid your personal knowledge won't do) I suggest you leave a message about it for user SSJChuckNorris (talk) who wrote the article and could well be interested in writing a fuller one with references. Disappointed

Hi John,

I was keen to start writing for Wikipedia but now fast losing faith when my work keeps getting deleted. Everything I wrote in the about me section was factual. I agree that the first article I wrote was about self publication but the most recent edition of About Me was not in the slightest bit spam.

What is wrong with writing about awards I have received in the industry I work in?

If I can't even write factual information about myself then what is the point me spending time to write about other people when the same thing could just as easily happen?

Deletion of Glidersport LightHawk

I agree with the deletion. I was merely using that as a way around the the insertionand re-insertion of a link to a non-existant page by Ahunt.

It appears Wikipedia doesn't want any links (except to their own webpages). Instead, they want one to create a whole topic page inplace of each link. This just doesn't make sense to me.

Suppose I wrote a topic on classic Ragtop cars. Wouldn't it make sense to have a few links to relevant webpages?

Also, copyright infringement may require a link in place of placing the same material on the topic one is creating.

You can note that Glidersport LightHawk has been recreated now as a proper, referenced article as per WikiProject Aircraft guidelines. I think this is the best solution to this and the related issues, as it is a notable subject. - Ahunt (talk) 17:57, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
That looks fine, and seems to have solved the problem. Mr. Adkins, we are twitchy about links because we suffer a lot from spammers; so there is a long policy about them at WP:EL, and in particular the section WP:EL#ADV says that "you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if WP guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked. When in doubt, you may go to the talk page and let another editor decide." That looks an interesting machine. I used to fly gliders, way back in the wood-and-canvas era. It would really help if you said what page you were on about. I guess it is Erika Fong. Wikipedia is quite choosy about subjects for articles - see WP:ACTOR for what an actor or actress needs to have achieved in order to have an article. But Wikipedia isn't the only place to look for information - try a Google search and you will find sites like http://www.samuraicast.com/ and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3783063/. Either will do - copyvio is a bit more black-and-white than spam, though nowadays I usually accompany it with a note that the material is unsuitable for other reasons, otherwise hopelessly promotional text comes back in with an OTRS release, and we have to start all over again... it's a wearying life, sometimes! Suggestions on Folding@home? GA coming soon!

Hi there JohnCD! I noticed that you have an interest in Folding@home and thought I'd let you know that I've extensively edited the article and I believe that it's very, very close to GA nominations, something that is long overdue IMO. I'm doing a fairly informal request for comment thing, so if you could read it through and drop me a line or something with any improvement suggestions I'd appreciate it. I'm striving to make it encyclopedic, factually accurate, etc. If there's enough consensus that things are fine I will ask Dr. Pande for a final review and then put it up for GA nominations which I hope will transpire smoothly. I estimate that all of these events will occur within the next several weeks. That's perfectly fine. WP:GA? are the criteria, but basically if you were to go to a regular encyclopedia and turn to the article on Folding@home, is this close to what you'd expect to see? Clearly GA standards aren't FA standards, but the article should be encyclopedic nonetheless. Someone else will be the final GA judge. John William Horn

Hello JohnCD, a few years ago someone created an article about me. Over the years I would check on it and maintained it with great pride. I am a published author of the book "MySQL Essential Skills" McGraw-Hill Osborne Publication Date: June 10, 2004 | ISBN-10: 0072255137 | ISBN-13: 978-0072255133. Anyway, I would ask you to please review the deletion of the article. I had seen warnings about references, but didn't understand why they were showing up. The pages referenced were there and the books and articles referenced were on third party sites (such as Eweek, Techtarget.com) were there. For quite a while there were several articles out there. I have to admit some of the articles about me have gone away due to the passage of time. But, the articles about me were not commercial, nor promotional. They were just informative articles about a person who was a pioneer in helping bring MySQL to a larger audience. I wouuld be willing to help repair any issues it may have had or if I need to consult an expert on this I am willing to do it. If you are unable to repost the article, may I please have the content? I really did like it. :)

The right place to ask would be WP:Miscellany for deletion, but I do not think there would be agreement, because of the policy WP:DELTALK which says the history of user talk pages should be preserved.. What you can do is, blank the talk page completely: the history would remain, but anyone who looked at the talk page would not see it unless they clicked the "View history" tab. Your user page can be deleted on request - just put {{db-u1}} at the top. If you want to "disappear" more completely from the English Wikipedia, see WP:Courtesy vanishing. The version I deleted was an advertisement, not an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind, and is extremely resistant to attempts to use it like that. I see you have made another which has also been deleted: I haven't time to look at that one tonight. If you click on the "redlink" Highway on my plate it shows you the deletion log: I deleted it because it was a copyright violation, substantially copied from here. The article author Nkadithya31 (talk · contribs) was advised on his talk page, but did nothing about it. Even apart from the copyright problem, it wasn't a good article - no references, only three lines about the show, the rest about Ricky and Mayur.
The one a year earlier was a PROD deletion, which would normally be restored on request, but looking at it, I see it contained the same copyright violation.
You're welcome to write one, in your own words, if you can show notability by references to "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" like reviews. JohnCD (talk) 23:02, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Doing some checking, I made a slightly disturbing discovery - this person had been writing their own versions of a bunch of articles in user space (and I seem to remember previous socks doing the same), one of which was still being edited by an IP last week. Well spotted - you looked further than me, I saw those and thought the user was also doing some constructive work, I didn't think to check whether they were copies of existing articles. See WP:Articles for deletion. The discussion lasts for seven days, normally, and then an uninvolved admin decides what to do. Anyone can express a view, normally "keep" or "delete", sometimes "redirect" or "merge". Those are called "!votes", meaning "not-votes", to indicate that the closing admin does not count heads, but assesses the arguments in terms of WP policies. Charles Brokaw

Hi! Thanks for writing on my talk page! I don't think that this person is the author of the Thomas Lourdes series for several reasons. For one thing, the series is a current one and they're being released even now. The Charles Brokaw in the IMDb link died back in 1975, so I doubt that he's the same guy. Then there's the matter that the name Charles Brokaw is a pseudonym, something that's written on his author profile at Macmillan. It might be that the author chose his pseudonym based off of the actor's name, though. In any case, the actor might warrant an article himself. When I get a moment I'll have to look and see what I can find. It's kind of fun, making new articles. (Although if anything is wrong, I can only blame myself for it. I was the one who requested the speedy deletion, if you are the creator you are allowed to donate you work to Wikipedia and request undeletion of the article. Instead of tagging them for speedy deletion, they will be tagged as a copyright violation. Follow the steps for each page which is tagged to donate your works. (eg. Mr McCausland, please read what I have written on your talk page. Wikipedia cannot accept copied material on the basis that someone on the end of a wire says he is the author. The easiest way for you to make the material available is to display on your website the exact form of release given at WP:Donating copyrighted materials#Granting us permission to copy material already online. You should read the whole of WP:Donating copyrighted materials - other ways of releasing it are also described there. You need to understand that in releasing it you are allowing any reader to copy, modify and re-use it for any purpose including commercial: unless you agree to that, do not release it or post it in Wikipedia.

That will protect them from deletion as copyright violations (though they may be temporarily blanked until the permission is verified), but they may still be deleted if they are too promotional or do not meet Wikipedia's requirements such as WP:Notability. Hi, I was looking into the problematics of Justice007's request at Drmies tp, and tweaking the infobox and such when you moved the page. I'm not complaining, but there was a redirect in place for the asteroid, so if I had removed the redirect info from Shair, does that mean that the page becomes available for a move? A bit confused about redirect pages (not what they're for), can one just undo them and move articles to that namespace?

I recently got embroiled over this concerning a user who incorrectly named an article, redirected it, then created another article and then turned the basic page into a DAB, see here, sorry I've deleted the other pages from my watchlist concerning the confusion, but my second question is does this need a dab or should Kevin Sharpe link directly to the historian, and the corresponding page be moved to that title? To move an article to a page where there is a redirect, as with Shair, needs an admin because the redirect is effectively deleted. To cut and paste the article over the redirect would be a bad idea, because the history would be lost. The page about how to arrange disambiguations is at WP:Disambiguation. I really do not know how to explain this more clearly than I already have, both on your talk page and above at User talk:JohnCD#Copyright issues. Have you actually read that? I will try once more:
  • No matter how many times you assert that you are the author, that is not enough, because we have no way to be sure that someone on the end of a wire is who he says.
  • "Implied permission" is not good enough - to meet our legal obligations we require explicit permission from a source that can be identified with the copyright owner.
  • There are easy ways for you to give a valid copyright release, which are described at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The simplest way is to post on your website the form of words given at WP:DCM#Granting us permission to copy material already online.

Hello JohnCD. firstly, thank you for your comment. i'm really understand why the page was deleted. however some comment was wrong so i just want to correct that.

firstly, a whole class was set to write articles about POSCO subsidiaries. the homework is uploading some information in wikipedia; writing new information or correct right information. maybe some students choose same company as like me. but it is wrong every student needs to write or change information about POSCO.

perhaps, i mentioned before i thought i couldn't upload new information in wikipedia. so i found this company. in my country, the company is very famous. and i don't have any idea about entob. i just found the company name in POSCO wikipedia page.

when i looked POSCO wikipedia page, many page link were not correct. so i searched every company name. at that time i found entob comapny.

i didn't have enough time to write the company information. as you can see the history of entob. the first writer is not me. maybe the employee who work in entob has uploaded the information.

i just corrected new information. actually, it is none of my business the company page is deleted or not but i have 2 conerns

1st is my mark. i just worry about i would get low mark if the page were deleted.

2nd is the company the employee working in entob spent a lot of time to uploading the page. for me, the effort went out. im really sorry for the company and the employee. therefore, i want to restore the page.

deletion of user created article

Hi John, As i was researching on the Indian firm "financial services" ( R K Global ) through Google, it kept taking me on the blocked page by the name of User:Rkglobal . As i searched from inside the wikipedia website i was taken correctly to the required site "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R_K_Global" . I am really surprised with questioning whetnet Hapkikwan is to be deleted. And all this due to two artificial problems - one in respect to copy right and another one in respect to a question that there are not independent sources (?). Let me explain this: 1.In respect to a quaestion of copyrights, all data that appears at Hapkikwan International website is free for public use. I know this for sure. It is just general information, there are no special products of mind. Also, I know this because I am green belt Hapkikwan. 2.As about secondary (independent) sources I firstly wonder what in the text could be a subject of any dispute? Does anyone belive that Prof. Krivokapic is not founder of Hapkikwan? Or that Hapkikwan was not founded in 1994? Etc. Anyway, many independent sources (not only from Serbia, but also from Croatia, Korea, Pakista) are given at the Hapkikwan International website, in particular in subsection Press. This includes scanned pages from books, magazines and newspapers. Yet I believe it is sufficient to mention that Hapkikwan is officially recognized as a new Martial Art by the World Martial Arts Union - the only Martial Arts Association recognized by the UN and UNESCO in particular. It's all very well to say that you "know for sure" that "all data that appears at Hapkikwan International website is free for public use", but that site bears the notice "Copyright © 2010 hapkikwan. All Rights Reserved." That is not the most important point: the article gave no references to show notability, and the consensus of those who gave their opinion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hapkikwan, who looked for sources, is that the organization does not meet Wikipedia's standard, which is explained at WP:MANOTE. If you believe you can show that it does, you may appeal at WP:Deletion review. You could perhaps get advice by posting on the talk page of WP:WikiProject Martial arts. Aaeon article

Hi JohnCD,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your advice on writing in Wikipedia. I appreciate all the help I can get since I am a first time user. I am actually not related to the company although I do know an employee working in it. I am still a student at a university and this is one of my class projects.

In regards to notability, I do think that Aaeon is a strong contender in their industry. It was noted in Business Week and a white paper was written by Seagate on their collaboration. They were also featured in the quarterly Intel® Embedded Innovator Magazine in addition to numerous articles/press releases mentions. I understand it is no Coca Cola but I am hoping that this should be sufficient.

My first thought was that you would do better to start with a clean sheet, but I have restored it to User:Joyeung109/Aaeon. However I have removed the product details section, which are a copyright violation from the company's website, and also the milestones, ditto. I know they have been slightly reworded and presented in reverse order, but WP:Close paraphrasing does not avoid copyright problems. In any case, both those sections seemed to me to have too much detail for an encyclopedia article, which has different aims and audience from a company website. As the website is linked, anyone who wants all the detail can easily find it. For the article, just add the really important bits in your own (unpromotional) words. It might be, if it were confirmed; but Wikipedia has a policy of WP:Verifiability: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source." Large claims like being "granted" a dukedom, and surprising claims like being "in direct line to become king of Spain", will not be accepted without very good and reliable sources. Your article did not provide any: ¡Hola! magazine on its own would certainly not be enough. JohnCD (talk) 22:12, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi JohnCD I think you deleted a Page About Pink Heart Movement today. I understand why you deleted it. It was a promotional rant about a new website and not objective. Pink Heart Movement is a non profit organisation. True our main goal is to create a new web platform, and web community.. Our entire motivation is to provide a force for good for the world. In the space of a week John we have raised $150,000, rallied over 30 people within our "base camp," Deloitte of Australia have volunteered their services to financially structure us and so has Monolithic Corporation who are a Perth based law firm.. Deleted articles

I've got a Google Alert on my own name. Earlier today, it hit upon a Wikipedia article about me, but when I looked, it was already deleted. Further inspection shows there were actually two articles about me (logs here). I didn't author either article, nor am I arguing that I'm noteworthy enough to have a Wikipedia page. I'm just curious what was on those pages. My understanding is that admins are able to undelete to a "user subpage". Would you be kind enough to do that for me, so my curiosity could be satisfied? I'd forgotten all about Crocodillin. Read the discussion at User talk:JohnCD/Archive 12#Crocodillin which led to my incubating it. I emailed Dr Britton with links to the discussion and to WP:V and WP:NOR and suggested he start an account; he replied that he was busy and that "I tend to agree with your comments in the discussion, but there's one thing I'd like to double-check first", but I never heard from him again.
The concerns were (a) that the term was not in general enough use to pass WP:NEO and serve as an article title, and (b) that we didn't want to assist quack doctors who were using it to plug a miracle cure.
I think (b) is still a concern. I have removed your last paragraph with the reference to "healing power against all known deadly viruses and bacteria", AIDS, cancer etc - those are WP:REDFLAG claims, and this book does not look at all like a RS for medical claims - AuthorHouse is a self-publisher, I wouldn't trust anything that claims "an end to all disease" and refers to the Da Vinci Code, and the reference in the book to Crocodillin gives a link to http://www.biologicalmiracle.net which will sell you the pills - no longer referring to Crocodillin directly, but see the link on the left.
I'm not entirely convinced about (a) either. It's a pity that all the actual references are to journalism, from about the time of the BBC program. It would be better if we could cite what the scientific papers say (Dr Britton's note on my talk page archive gives two more) for some evidence that the term is being used in scientific circles. Google Scholar shows very little (the first ref is that book again - I wonder how it got in there?). There has been a program recently where Wikipedians could apply for free access to some scientific journal database - perhaps someone who has that could help, but I don't remember what it was called.

It's not really bad enough for speedy deletion as WP:CSD#G11. You could take it to WP:MFD, but I suggest you first (a) put a {{user page}} template on it, (b) explain politely that you have done that, that unlike Myspace and LinkedIN, Wikipedia is not for writing about oneself (link to WP:AUTO) and that user pages are not meant for that sort of thing. A form of words I often use is "User pages are intended for the volunteers, who are here to help build the encyclopedia, to say something about themselves, if they choose, to assist communication within the project. Copyvio problem

You helped me in the past, and I hope you can give me a little guidance here. User:Fernanf keeps adding the same copyrighted content (it is promotional, too) to Southville Foreign University (see the page history). I reported it to the copyright violations noticeboard, but the user keep re-adding the content. I warned the user, but to no avail. You're an administrator (and you're experienced), can you help me? I have blocked for 3 days and given some advice. The edit-warring noticeboard WP:ANEW would be a place to report something like this; or, though adding promotional/copyright material isn't really vandalism, once he had ignored enough warnings a report to WP:AIV would get the fastest response. One thing that might have helped, though probably not, would have been to put {{welcome}} on his talk page with the first warning - the links to WP:5P and WP:YFA would have been a way to help him understand WP better, It's easy to forget that a newbie may not understand that WP is not just another Myspace. Asoka Handagama

I'm a bit disappointed that you tagged the page on Asoka Handagama for deletion due to being UBLP. While some references about particular topics are a bit hard to find (e.g. exactly who considers him to be the leader of the third generation of Sri Lankan cinema, it's extremely easy to find references that show him to be a socially and artistically important filmmaker, with a worldwide reputation. Once you found that the page wasn't referenced, couldn't you have just added a reference or two rather than simply scheduling the page for deletion? Ross-c (talk) 10:35, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

I could have, but instead, after declining an A7 speedy, I spent some time writing advice to the newbie author and pointing them to WP:YFA and WP:WikiProject Film, so as to encourage them to do it themself and learn how to make more useful contributions. "Teach a man to fish... " Even if it dropped off my overcrowded watchlist, the page is unlikely to have been deleted - people scan the BLP-prod list for things to rescue, and an admin considering deletion after ten days would also have had a look for sources. Dhoom 3

Hi John,

The article Dhoom 3 about the film was moved to article incubator by you. The concern was it doesn't meet WP:NFF. Yet the article doesn't meet WP:NFF as its principal photography is not started. But I think Dhoom 3 is sufficiently notable. WP:NFF says "Films that have not been confirmed by reliable sources to have commenced principal photography should not have their own articles as budget issues, scripting issues and casting issues can interfere with a project well ahead of its intended filming date." Then what if some film dropped even after the photography is started? It happens is several cases. So i think we can use WP:IAR and WP:UCS in this case (i'm not much familiar with the rules, correct me if i'm wrong). Just check out google trends reports of "dhoom 3" here. Its news reference volume and search volume clearly shows its notablity. A lots of independant, reliable sources confirms it'll go on floor this month. Also the direct confirmation from producer,director and lead actors can be found. If you wish I'll provide sources. So considering these things I kindly request you to move Dhoom 3 back to article namespace. Thanks..

You are right that WP:NFF is not an absolute bar if there are enough reliable sources about a future film. I will ask MichaelQSchmidt (talk), an admin who is more familiar than I am with movie articles and at AfD discussions is often sympathetic in situations like this, to look at this and move it to the mainspace if he thinks fit. No, you are not doing everything good. Alaimo wasn't copyvio, but he wasn't notable; Gabriel Mannarino was a straight copy from www.lacndb.com. More than 40 of your articles have been deleted in a month - that should tell you something. Your contributions are welcome, but only if you take the trouble to learn Wikipedia's rules and standards and listen to the advice many people are giving you.

SummitSportsGroup has not been advertising or spamming

SummitSportsGroup (talk · contribs) had been blocked by Alexf (talk · contribs) with the reason {{uw-spamublock}} but I can see from the user's contributions that there is no indication of spamming or advertising, even though the username is in violation of the username policy and that user has even been blocked from creating a new account. In fact Mike James (NCAA basketball player), an article that the user submitted to articles for creation, had been created. Also the user's edit count shows the number of deleted edits as 0 so there is no deleted advertisement. "Account creation blocked" should be removed from the account's block so that the user can create a new account with a username that conforms to the username policy and continue to submit more articles for creation. jfd34 (talk) 10:31, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Their website says they are "a full-service Seattle-based athlete management firm dedicated to providing our clients with the best representation available" and Mike James is one of their clients, so they have a severe COI and I think it not unreasonable to ask them to make an unblock request to change username, so we can make sure before unblocking that they understand the rules about COI and promotion before posting articles about their clients; but you should take this up with Alexf (talk) who actually blocked them. Wanted to get some clarification on why we couldn't start a wiki page about our brewing company. Something was said about not having substantial material in the article...Got to give us time to fill it out. Also was said that it was promotional...we actually started our article by copying Sweetwater Brewing Company's wiki page and changing the content to us. I don't know what it is with Indian self-published authors. At least this one's books had ISBN numbers. There was Avinash Patra (27 socks and counting) whose works are only on-line, and any passage you check turns out to have been copied from somewhere. His book about Lord Curzon, "One of the most widely read Historical Literature of all time in the Present World", says it is published by "Oxford University Press An imprint of British Board cast service UK" and at the end says "This book has been written as a guide for those who are compelled to purchase a horse in the absence of skilled assistance..." and is datelined "EDINBURGH, OXFORDSHIRE.. What made it spam was puffery, promotional words like "eminent company... premium brand products... Audionic products are the best... different, innovative, creative... No, it's buried in the history, it doesn't need rev-deleting. I dont think this was actually a hoax in the sense of completely made-up, though it was exaggerated - see what I have said on his talk page. New Pages update

Hey JohnCD/Archive 18 :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on.

On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :).

On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks! complaint of vandalism at Azolla

Saw your message when I looked up Ken Burns' "The War" today. Took me by surprise. Be advised that since at least December 2011, edits from this IP address have been "indefinitely blocked" (last time I saw the block notice was near the end of March this year). I have been the only user of this IP address since December, and since I have been unable to do any editing such as grammar and syntax and spelling, or any minor additions to any articles, because of the block, and because of it gave up any thought of contributing anything, I did nothing at Azolla. (I haven't even looked at the article, not even out of curiosity, since the word/topic means nothing to me, and I have no idea what it means). My message was dated October 2008, and this IP's contribution list shows that a vandal entry on Azolla did come from there, but that was no doubt before your time. Also, this IP is not blocked now (it it was, you would not have been able to edit my talk page), and the block log shows it has never been blocked. You must have been using a different IP when you found yourself unable to edit. In fact, if you have only just seen my 2008 message, you must have been using a different IP until very recently. Moreover, the deletion is controversial in any case: see the first bullet of WP:CNR#Arguments for keeping CNRs. Surely not an uncontentious speedy, and what actual harm was it doing? No, it's not an R2; I reckoned R3 fitted, because it was (in its present form) recently created, and I think it fits WP:CNR#Arguments for deleting CNRs #1: we don't want visitors getting mixed up with the pipework. (WP:CNR admits that its arguments contradict each other.) However, you could argue that yesterday was only a change, so it wasn't recent, so R3 didn't apply; and if you like I will disinter it and send it to RfD. JohnCD (talk) 14:19, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

You had plenty of warning - don't you read messages on your talk page? In particular, you were notified here on 28 April that there would be a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mobile Forces Source, and invited to contribute. That discussion ran for a week and decided to delete. Subjects for Wikipedia articles need references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to establish notability and as your game is still in development there will not yet be any independent comment like reviews. You may appeal to WP:Deletion review if you like, but you would do best to wait until after your game is released and gathers independent comment, and preferably wait until someone with no conflict of interest is interested enough to write about it. I'm sorry that we do not do a good job of explaining what Wikipedia is not for, but it is absolutely not for what you want to do. Your girls want to tell the world that they have a "patented combination of comedic chemistry and candy colored sibling harmony" and are "a uniquely charming and talented musical duo... currently seeking agency representation", but Wikipedia is not for advertisement or promotion of any kind, and anything like that is deleted at sight - fine in Myspace or Facebook, but not in the pages of an encyclopedia. That is why group accounts are not allowed and why people are strongly discouraged from writing about themselves - see Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.
You mentioned other articles - we have 3,900,000 and we know that many are substandard, so What about that other article? is not an argument that is accepted, but they are (a) not written by their subjects (b) not promotional in tone (c) backed up by references to independent sources to confirm what they say and establish notability to the standard of WP:MUSICBIO.   • Thank you! It didn't wait that long, only about an hour. CAT:CSD is quite well-patrolled now - there used to be times when the backlog was 150 - 200 and things lingered for days. Have a look at the note I left at the bottom of the author's talk page - it's useful to add something like that (with details tweaked as necessary) to a copyvio notice, otherwise they go to all the trouble of making a copyright release and then we say "sorry, puffery, not notable" and delete it again, which is not very friendly. It is explained on your talk page: Wikipedia is not a site like Myspace for people to write about themselves. It's an encyclopedia, so article subjects have to be notable, and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography. You had several notifications. At the top of your screen, click on "My talk". That shows you your talk page, where you can read them all. When you see a yellow bar across the top of your screen saying "You have new messages", you should click "My talk" to see what the new messages are.
Read WP:42 to see what we mean by notability. If you believe you can really show notability to that standard, reply below here and I will move the page into your user space where you can work on it; but don't ask for that unless it's really notable, because otherwise you will be wasting your time. (wrong?) i am sure that prof hertz is a very nice person, etc. but i am having trouble seeing her article (or any search for her in googleland) meet even the lowest bar of anything notable. help... Yes, certainly you can take it to AfD - there are many articles that pass the low bar of A7 but not the higher one of notability. A7 is there to weed out the ones where there is no need for discussion. Read WP:DEL and WP:AFD, unless you are familiar with them, and WP:PROF, the notability standard for academics. Well, she was born in Poland, but she moved to France aged 24, married a Frenchman, studied and worked and won two Nobel prizes there, lived there for the rest of her life, and is buried in the Panthéon which is "a secular mausoleum containing the remains of distinguished French citizens." You might like this one - I've just looked at your userpage. I've deleted the article version A7, but that doesn't work in userspace, does it? The article was 'authored' by a different name. This user is blocked at pt-wiki for userpage abuse, and at es-wiki the userpage has been deleted. The 'films' link to Film, and I can find nothing outside blogspot for the first of them. Would this go as a hoax, perhaps? BTW the AfD on the (so far...) longest running hoax on WP is near its end - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tillery (about six and a half years in existence, but doubts were cast on its second day). Advice please!

I need your advice on this please. This editor turned off ClueBot, I know that CBNG is only meant to be turned off by admins so when I saw a non-admin do it I assumed CBNG had done something wrong and I asked the question because I was going to report any issues to User:Cobi. However, the user has actually admitted to intentionally vandalising CBNG's run page and admitted to vandalising CBNG's talk page albeit over a year ago. I'm inclined to let it go however because turning off the anti-vandal bot is quite serious, that's why I'm asking for a second opinion from you. I think it was silly rather than malevolent, so I agree a block is not necessary. In order to bring another voice in, I have given him a final warning of a long block if he does anything like that again. I wonder, should Cluebot be full-protected again? From what I remember it was downgraded before because not all ClueBot's admins are Wikipedia sysops, only Cobi from what I know. So it would have meant that if changes needed to be made to that page from ClueBot's admins unless Cobi was active, they wouldn't be able to do anything without asking for the page to be unlocked first. I have actually just posted though on User talk:DamianZaremba as he seems to be the only one of ClueBot's admins that's active at the moment (Cobi's not made any edits since 4 May) and asked if they would like it fully protected even just for a short while, I've pointed out that doing that might be better than the bot being turned off. I'm reluctant to do it without at least getting his opinion because, like I say, it would then mean that he can't edit the page. I'm thinking it's strange though that the majority of this is redlinked users and it's only started to really happen over the last few days. I'm surprised there isn't more trouble there - it's an obvious target for vandals, either in revenge for being reverted, or to help sneak in their next vandalism. I guess it helps that the user page says "administrators may turn off this bot". JohnCD (talk) 21:17, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
I suppose, but even if you put "administrators may turn off this bot" if a vandal is really determined, that will not deter them. With it being set indefinitely to autoconfirmed users I think there's the assumption that they will not vandalise. Sadly, that's not always the case. I'm inclined to leave ClueBot's run page just now, it's on my watchlist anyway, if the vandalism should get really bad whilst I'm online tonight then I'll just upgrade it's protection for a few days and if ClueBot's admins object they can always message me. When I come on tomorrow, if I've no response from Damien and the vandalism has continued I'll lock it then too. What you were doing was creating "articles" consisting only of an external link. You can see at the existing Smith County article how to do it: if there is already an article for the subject you want to link to, put the name of the article as an entry under "See also" as a wikilink between double square brackets. "See also" is only for references within Wikipedia: if there is no article, put the entry under "External links" in the same format as existing ones - within single square brackets, first the full URL starting with "http", then a space, then the text that you want to appear. Don't overdo it, though - read WP:NOTGUIDE #2 "Travel guides" and the guideline WP:External links. JohnCD (talk) 21:53, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, there are sites like Myspace where you can write about it, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and an encyclopedia is not a place for announcing new things - it only reports on things that are already well established, so that other people have commented on them independently.
The guideline Wikipedia is not for things made up one day was written mainly for people who have made up a new word or a joke "philosophy", but you should read it all because it explains the issues quite well, and they apply even when the subject is serious. JohnCD (talk) 20:46, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

  • In discussions on talk pages and noticeboards: it is very unlikely to be helpful to accuse another editor of racism - see WP:No personal attacks

Jessie Jack Hooper page

Hi, JohnCD-

Thanks for your kind and helpful notes re the page I started. I'd been dubbing around with the idea for a page on that topic for a bit, and I guess I just got impatient to have something show up there. Jessie Jack Hooper is a truly nationally-significant person from my community, and it has really bothered me that she hasn't been on the list of local notables. I've had a request out, for ages, to a local professor who has developed a huge amount of scholarly information about her, but as yet haven't gotten her to commit to letting me turn something she has already written into a wikipedia page (crediting her and her sources properly, of course.)

Last year, I realized that the ARC Weekly Top 40 was no longer on WikiPedia. Although it was accurate, a lot of people were unknown of this chart and the MBG Top 40 chart. At first I was a little upset it was not on the website. However, me being subscribed to Billboard, I realized that the information on ARC Weekly was "a little bit off". It says it's supposed to be Airplay and Sales. Unfortunately, the chart has undergone changes that no one else had known.

Yes, when I do not want to log into my Billboard.Biz subscription, I do visit ARC rockonthenet. But what I've noticed is that it was pretty much like Top40-charts.com. It seemed off from what it was supposed to be. I looked at Hot 100 Airplay, Mainstream Top 40, and even Pop Digital Songs; it seemed inaccurate. Another thing was that there were about 275 songs in its first year (1980), but there were only 156 songs in 2009. Since I knew the history of Contemporary hit radio and the formats it spawned into, I knew that the website did not provide enough information about its chart change. It was as if it focused on The Billboard Hot 100 from 1980 to 1990, Hot 100 Airplay and Sales from 1991-1996, Top 40 Tracks from 1996-2003, and the Mainstream Top 40 and Pop Digital from 2004-present.

Thank you for deleting it on WikiPedia. Someone like me, who was born way after 1980, could have misused an inaccurate chart when trying to re-live Contemporary hit radio in the 1980s. DominiquesMusic (talk) 01:56, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Letting anyone edit brings in more than one new page a minute and, while there is a lot of good stuff, a regrettable proportion are unsuitable, so administrators have a lot of deleting to do; but there are quite strict rules about what they can delete and why. This one was the result of a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hakan Serbes, and if you think it was wrongly decided, or you have more information, you can appeal at WP:Deletion review. New Page Triage/New Pages Feed

Hey all :). A notification that the prototype for the New Pages Feed is now live on enwiki! We had to briefly take it down after an unfortunate bug started showing up, but it's now live and we will continue developing it on-site.

The page can be found at Special:NewPagesFeed. Please, please, please test it and tell us what you think! Note that as a prototype it will inevitably have bugs - if you find one not already mentioned at the talkpage, bring it up and I'm happy to carry it through to the devs. The same is true of any additions you can think of to the software, or any questions you might have - let me know and I'll respond.

Thanks for your help! After I saw that my first page had been deleted before I had even realized it was marked for speedy deletion, I was concerned that Wikipedia might not be the place for me. ITOL

Yes I wasn't happy with it and tried to do it in a rush before I went out which is never a wise move for your 1st new Wiki page. I'll do some more digging on content. I created it because I had trouble finding a definition elsewhere !! There is a further complication that Itol is already there as a redirection to Polyol. Heidi Bedell Wikipedia page

Hi JohnCD, I note that you have deleted my page due to me being unimportant. You might be right but I am vain and I liked having it. In my defense, I'd like to point out a few things which may be noteworthy. I am the only Green politician to have stood in two different districts and won both times. I've never lost an election I stood for (that's only two, but still). With regard to my time as Chair of the National Council and National Co-ordinator: The Party suffered great losses in the 1999 election, the feeling in the party was very low. Because I had the time, I became the first full-time national co-ordinator in 1999. I poured my heart into the party and began to lift it up out of the doldrums. I was the co-ordinator when the party decided to elect a leader and when they decided to elect Trevor. In 1996 when Trevor and I first met, I acted as his image consultant, a role I continued to play to the party in general. When Trevor and I got engaged 2 weeks after we'd met, a number of comments were made that this had helped to secure his Malahide vote in the 1997 general election. I was the leader of the party up to 2001 and I was co-leader with Trevor up to 2003. I stepped down just before Stiofan Nutty was appointed General Secretary - a new role, now possible with the extra money that the 2003 election success had provided. I know the Green Party has had many 'ups and downs' through the years and there are many more to come, but that 'up' was my 'up' and it is currently invisible. I've never heard anyone ask - how did the green party go from 1 TD in 1996 to 6 TDs in 2003? Who was running the party before they had a leader?

I had never thought about this untill I completed a masters this year which included an interesting module on feminisim. It was during these lectures that I fully digested the claim that women tend to be written out of history. I can't help wondering if I was male would I have taken up more space in people's consciousness? Maybe not. Who really cares? I'd like my page back. Thanks.

Your wish is my command: I have restored your article. However, there is a catch, and to explain it I need to explain some Wikipedia bureaucracy. I deleted it (two years ago) by a process called WP:Proposed deletion or PROD: any user who thinks an article should go can place a notice (PROD template) on it giving reasons. For seven days, any user who objects can simply remove the template. If, after seven days, no-one has done that, the article is deleted. As PROD is meant for uncontroversial deletions, a PRODded article is automatically restored on request, as I have now done.
Once restored, it may not be PRODded again, but there is a more deliberate process, WP:Articles for deletion which involves a debate, again lasting seven days. I will notify user Snappy (talk), who PRODded your article, that it has been restored (with a link to this discussion) and he (or any user) may choose to nominate it at AfD.
The issue is not importance, but Wikipedia:Notability, a term used in a particular sense in Wikipedia: it is required for any article subject, and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." We try to avoid making subjective judgements about things like importance by asking a more objective question: is there evidence that people independent of the subject have thought her/him/it important enough to write substantial comment about? There is more detail at WP:Notability (people), particularly the section WP:POLITICIAN.
There is nothing in the restored article which shows notability in that sense. I can understand why you feel that your behind-the-scenes role was important, but can you give references to independent sources (press, published memoirs... ) which confirm that?
In regard to your own article you have, from our point of view, a WP:Conflict of interest, see also WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest and WP:Autobiography, and we would prefer that you did not yourself edit it directly. You are welcome to make suggestions, particularly to provide references, on the article talk page.
