Are you going to revert Materialscientist's edit on Battle of Carthage (238) for not adhering to "Manual of style"? --2001:8003:4085:8100:EDB3:F65:19B1:DC11 (talk) 08:37, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Reverting edits of a page about a specific product (car model) that the editor owns and uses every day.

Maerean (talk) 08:57, 7 March 2020 (UTC) "Hello, I'm JavaHurricane. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Volkswagen Passat (B8), but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it..."Reply

You have reverted a big edit I have made to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Passat_(B8)#Passat_GTE

Just because some wikipedia content doesn't cite a source that doesn't make the content incorrect or added in bad faith.
You are allowed to revert changes only if you believe the content to be utterly incorrect or added in bad faith.
A missing source for the information is not basis enough to remove the content.
The truth value of the content being correct or incorrect is not related to a source being provided even if increases the faith in the content.
I will find sources to cite.

Not all information is present and linkable on the web.
There is little information on the internet about this specific car model. That's why I'm adding the information on its wikipedia page.

This is a car that I have owned for some time now.
As an owner of the product, my own experience is the source of the information.
Also, the content is a compilation of watching a lot of reviews (video content) on the internet on the specific category of products/cars.
I have presented the information in good faith in a neutral tone and a balanced approach, presenting both advantages and disadvantages.

Not all information provided by car manufacturers (that they advertise on their websites) is verified in real life even if one can easily provide it as a source.
Also, manufacturers only present the advantages of the product and the specific category of products.
Only the owners of the products get to learn the disadvantages once they use the product.

Do owners of specific car models and car types really need to create a website of their own and post their experience there just to have a citation url in the wiki page so you don't delete the content from Wikipedia so nobody can access it?
Please answer the above question about the process of editing wikipedia pages of specific car models. This is more relevant to rare models that haven't been sold in large numbers.

If you feel more citation is needed, please just add a "citation needed" note, don't delete the content entirely.
We shouldn't go into a loop of me adding content and value to a wikipedia page and you removing it.
That's not right. I ask you to improve the content and value of that specific page and not destroy it.

Please put back the content you have removed and add a "citation needed" note where you feel necessary.

I will search for the video reviews I have mentioned and add them as sources.

PS: I didn't find an actual Message/Reply option in wikipedia. I hope this is the way to have this conversation with you.

I'm sorry, but Wikipedia policies (specifically WP:RS and WP:OR) clearly tell us that we cannot use original research in articles. All information here has to be cited with a reliable source. The information may be correct, but you'll have to provide a reliable source to back up your information; otherwise, the information may be summarily removed. -- JavaHurricane 09:03, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Maerean (talk) 10:22, 7 March 2020 (UTC) I have removed all my edits since they are based on my original research which (Wikipedia policies (specifically WP:RS and WP:OR) clearly tell us) cannot be used and is not a reliable source to be cited.Reply
The section is back to its original state. Empty. And useless.
Anyone interested can read my original research on the Volkswagen Passat GTE B8 outside Wikipedia.

Thank you! I do hope that you can get reliable sources so that you can put back the information on the page! -- JavaHurricane 10:26, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Question about rejection of page draft: The Elephant in the Brain

Hi!

Thanks for taking the time to review the draft of the page for 'The Elephant in the Brain'. I wanted to ask you why the draft was rejected. The notice said the the subject does not qualify for a Wikipedia page as it is not notable enough. The [guidlines] suggest that if a book is the subject of two or more non-trivial, independent published works, then it meets the notability requirements. In the 'Reception' section of the article, I have cited significant reviews in the Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and the New York Intelligencer, all of which are regarded as 'generally reliable' according to [these guidlines]. The significant coverage in three major, reliable sources, I believe satisfies the notability requirement. On top of this, I have cited reviews in Publishers Weekly and Quillette, as well as a minor review in National Review. While these last three reviews hold less weight than the first three I do not see why they would reduce the notability. Please could you explain your reasons for rejecting the article? Thanks, Alfredsph (talk) 11:18, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alfredsph, hi! The main reason I rejected the draft is because it does not yet have a summary or lead long enough. I think that if you could expand the article further and cite sources about it, the article will pass. Thanks, and happy editing! JavaHurricane 11:33, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I was updating my own page. If this is not possible that is fine. I am only expanding upon what is written there and also adding my new coauthored book. I am not sure how to verify the new book but it has an ISBN number. Is there a way to do this please. thanks Rosanna Hertz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.149.1.19 (talk) 16:35, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@73.149.1.19:, hi there! I am sorry, but Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy states that users must not edit articles about themselves except in the case of vandalism. If you wish to update your article, I recommend you to leave a message on the article's talk page detailing the requested edit. One of the contributors here will then make the changes you have requested.

On that note, I would like to invite you to create a Wikipedia account! You can create an account for free, and it makes it easier for us contributors to recognise you! Further, you can edit a wide range of articles as per your wishes. -- JavaHurricane 16:54, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

your editing Wiki page

Hello! I saw you undid my work. What did I do wrong? DC — Preceding unsigned comment added by David T Cohen (talkcontribs) 15:55, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

David T Cohen, you are adding unsourced or unreliably sourced material to biographies of living persons, violating them Wikipedia policies about such articles. Hence I reverted your edits. JavaHurricane 16:07, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I understand. But before my edits I spoke to the Person who confirmed all facts and provided me with the evidence. Be reassured: I would never allow myself to improper acts. In reality facts were all proven already. I just, with the Person agreement, put them in different context and updated recent developments. You can talk to him no problem. Very friendly. Do you want his email? David — Preceding unsigned comment added by David T Cohen (talkcontribs) 16:49, 28 March 2020 (UTC) Is my signature showing? The other day I had problems with it. DavidReply

I am sorry, but you are not following the BLP policy. I understand that you are acting in good faith, but you are not providing reliable sources for your edits. Hence I am forced to revert your edits to comply with the policy. Please don't think that your edits are unacceptable altogether; we welcome contributions from all users, but all contributions must be sourced properly. I therefore request you to source your edits with reliable sources, so as to ensure compliance with the BLP policy. Thank you, and happy editing! -- JavaHurricane 16:54, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I understand and I absolutely appreciate that editing is a serious matter. Please note, though, that my edits did not change the veracity nor the substance of the original version. I just made minor changes in the chronology and updated certain events. For example: The Saxony Hotel does not exist in Miami Beach any longer and is now branded Faena Hotel. I believe that is an accurate and useful information for all. The substance of the facts was left intact. Hence I would not know how to verify it more than what my predecessors did before me (and in any event I did again). The only new information I added concerns Cipriani-Milan which I sourced at https://www.newsgateny.com/cipriani-acquires-a-new-venue-in-milan-italy-3-2/ and/or https://milano.repubblica.it/cronaca/2020/01/06/news/cipriani_ristoranti_milano_palazzo_bernasconi-245072068/ and which was confirmed by Mr. Fabrizio Cerina, his email: redacted. I would be very grateful if you could help me out as I believe I did my homework quite well... David — Preceding unsigned comment added by David T Cohen (talkcontribs) 17:47, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Have you read the BLP policy? We try to avoid using information from the subject himself if no sources are available to support said information. In this case, I see that you have obtained sources, so I think the information can stand. However, in many cases, using information given by the subject in the BLP without any supporting sources is considered to be original research, and often the information can be biased, violating the neutral point of view policy. Please read these policies and keep them in mind. Thanks! JavaHurricane 02:42, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Thanks for your explain! I also saw a COI. I would like to reassure all that I believe I absolutely have zero COI. Having said that, I would like to disclose that while I do not know personally the subject nor I've ever spoken to him, I did ask him (indirectly) to confirm a piece of information I obtained from various independent newspapers (links below). Last week I wrote to the public (info) email address of the bank the subject chairs. Yesterday I received a reply from his personal email address (maybe as it was no business day). They know that my news platform has been writing in the past about them. Only after such confirmation I thought it was a good idea to edit the wikipedia page. And I learned a lot :-) !! https://milano.repubblica.it/cronaca/2020/01/06/news/cipriani_ristoranti_milano_palazzo_bernasconi-245072068/ and https://forbes.it/2020/01/07/il-gruppo-cipriani-sbarca-a-milano-a-palazzo-bernasconi/ and https://financecommunity.it/cipriani-affitta-merope-palazzo-bernasconi-milano-gli-advisors-finanziari/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by David T Cohen (talkcontribs) 11:29, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion contested: James A. Fuller

Hello JavaHurricane, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of James A. Fuller, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. RJ Griffith draft

Hi Java,

I was under the impression that less is more when trying to get a new public figure approved. RJ has done some impressive things and I thought I provided some good credible sources which included IMDB, Major League Baseball, Fox 32 Chicago, etc. I know RJ isn't a major star, but I've seen similar artists with less content and sources approved.

I can add additional info and sources, but wanted to start by adding the best ones to get him approved and then maybe build on it from there. I'm relatively new to this so not sure if that's the right approach? If you can provide me any more specific suggestions that could help me get this approved that would be very helpful. Thank you and hope you and yours are safe and healthy!

Hi there! Thanks for your wishes! I would advise you to read through WP:RS once to understand what is a reliable source - there is a reason why we don't consider IMDb to be a reliable source. Also, if he has been doing impressive things, add them! Source them as well. If you can get more sources and more information, I'm certain that the article will pass. NOTWEBHOST

Hey! I saw your nom at MfD, I'm not quite sure what you mean by it violating NOTWEBHOST (and U5 as an extension). This is why I proposed a userfication instead... but your nom implies this would be unacceptable as well; so I just want some clarification before continuing.

ToxiBoi, hello! Note that as per the WP:NOTWEBHOST policy, Wikipedia is not a web hosting service for its users. Since it appears that it is an essay expressing your views or some information of yours, it seems pretty clear that the information there is not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, violating NOTWEBHOST. Further, if that draft is userfied, it will qualify for U5. Hence, I suggest that you request G1 speedy deletion of the draft. JavaHurricane 10:20, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Dragomir Arambašić

Hi. I'm really puzzled as to why you think this is advertising and contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. It's not perfect, but I don't see any promotional content there. I removed the speedy deletion tag. Maybe you could give a bit more explanation as to what you think is wrong with it? Deb (talk) 07:01, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Deb, ah, I think I was somewhat influenced by an earlier version of this page, which was previously deleted under G11.
Perhaps I was infuenced by this sentence from the article - "Entering the Antonin Mercié Atelier in 1912, he was able to enrich his knowledge by accepting all the so-called postulates found there, including the "Florentine renewals" evident in his works "The Girl with the Broken Tug" and "The Fisherman casts the net", following in them a typical Mercié performance of figures in a stalled motion." This is somewhat promotional at the very least, and given that the same page had been G11'd earlier, I thought that the promotional content had been restored. My bad in tagging the article again. Sorry! JavaHurricane 07:19, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, both. I see the bizarre wording in the original version which JH objected to, although I think it's probably the result of the creator's inexperience rather than intentional promotion. However, it appears that a more experienced contributor did some work on improving the wording and layout of the second draft. I hope you don't think I'm getting on your back; it's just that speedy deletion can be controversial and we admins get a lot of flak if we can't justify ourselves  :-) Deb (talk) 07:44, 3 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't know why it did so, but the matter can be easily resolved. For now I've reverted the page to the previous version. You can continue to work on the page, though it may be better not to use the translation tool if it is blanking the page. Better to do the improvements manually. Miscellany Draft:Direct Differentiation and Integration of Logarithms

I searched the main space and I'm sure it's not covered at all. This is from historical time point of view. Differentiation and Integration remained unsolved for a long time since 80's and before at time of big Calculus. Now a days, it is solved and referenced, and all Mathematics Scientists are using it in their university classes from the highest level to high school levels. So this is famous and important topic showing time passed (on logarithms) while incomplete topic in mathematics. No any article in wikipedia shows this perspective of logarithms and mathematics. Divya Khosla Kumar

Hi. I noticed back in January you were the last person to edit the main page for Divya Khosla Kumar in regards to her birth year. A few days ago someone once again changed it to 1987 using India Of Times AGAIN as a reference even though it's been stated that's not a reliable source. There's an India Of Times article back from December 2013 which completely contradicts that being her birth year because it says she was 32 then and it actually features an interview with her and she said that she was 20 when she moved to Mumbai and worked on a movie that was released in 2004-2005. If she was born in 1987 she wouldn't have even turned 18 yet when that film was released. This is even mentioned on her talk page.99.21.95.87 (talk) 13:45, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Interviews can't be used as a source for birth date: please see WP:BLPPRIMARY. JavaHurricane 13:58, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well yes I know that. I was just pointing out how that particular interview doesn't support 1987 being her birth year. The reference that's currently listed on her main page is a Times Of India article. And in your last edit, you said that wasn't reliable. I think it's probably best to just remove the DOB since there's so many conflicting sources and put down a note to other editors to not include it in the article unless a more reliable source is found. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.215.9.37 (talk) 14:13, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Spam reversion

Hallo, Thanks for clearing up some of the Beyond Charts spam, but there are a lot more - in many cases the spam edit was followed by an edit linking the ISBN. PamD 09:45, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

PamD, I used mass rollback to revert whatever was the latest revision. The revisions which are not the oldest will have to be manually reverted. JavaHurricane 10:44, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rene Lavand cite

You just erased my edit without checking. Is an personal interview. Rene Lavand on his flesh saying that. Why you did that? ROBOTECHH (talk) 06:40, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

ROBOTECHH, YouTube is not a reliable source, and said interview is a primary source too. See WP:BLPPRIMARY for why primary sources are avoided in biographies of living persons. Hope this helps! JavaHurricane 07:12, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Are you saying that Rene Lavand is alive? Better you check that. He had been dead for 6 years and almost a month. ROBOTECHH (talk) 10:07, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Why YouTube is not a reliable source when the video is an personal interview were Rene Lavand is whose talk in it? ROBOTECHH (talk) 10:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

ROBOTECHH, YouTube is a self-published source and therefore unreliable. I'm sorry, I thought it was an interview of Laward, I stand corrected. Nonetheless it remains that due to our sourcing policies for biographies of living persons, self-published sources are never to be used in a BLP. JavaHurricane 11:27, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

If all videos from YouTube was unreliable. All url from YouTube has have already on the black list just like all shorteners. You are not able to judge that ROBOTECHH (talk) 20:29, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

And I said once and I saying again. Rene Lavan is not a living person. He had have dead 6 years. ROBOTECHH (talk) 20:32, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

ROBOTECHH, even then no YouTube videos are allowed as sources in biographies. This is the policy and nothing can be done about it. This is necessary for preventing libel and unverifiable information appearing in BLPs due to legal considerations. Verifiability is one of Wikipedia's most important policies, and self-published sources like YouTube don't satisfy it, and certainly not for a BLP. Unless you get a reliable source supporting your addition, please don't readd the information, especially if the reference is to YouTube. Whether the subject is dead or alive has nothing to do with the reliability of YouTube, which has been routinely investigated and found to not be reliable. I hope this helps! :) JavaHurricane 06:10, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

No, it wasn't help The exceptions to this, however, are official YouTube channels created by agencies and organizations that themselves are generally considered reliable, such as that of the Associated Press. These videos may be used and are generally reliable. In all cases, the video must not infringe copyright.

And the mentioned video is from oficial chanel of National Library Mariano Moreno. And I'll repeat, since you apparently didn't pay attention when I said before, if YouTube were a not reliable source there're no reason to some ramndom guy to erase that kind of external links, if YouTube videos has no place in wikipedia it will ve automatically banned for some script jot for you or another follower of non sense and sui generis rules

ROBOTECHH (talk) 07:09, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

jot = not some script JOT for you some script NOT for you

ROBOTECHH (talk) 07:11, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Since it appears that you aren't ready to listen, I'm afraid I cannot help you much then. I will merely advise you to maintain civility and not make any personal attacks. I will just say it again: that video, not being from a reliable source, is self-published and therefore not usable in a BLP (or biographies of people who died in the past few years). The only reason why YouTube is not blacklisted is because it is sometimes used to link to songs uncontroversially, and to the videos from reliable sources as you say. YouTube references are otherwise unacceptable as they are unverifiable. JavaHurricane 11:09, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Raad van Verzet

Raad van Verzet has been redlinked 7 times on English WP, there are two articles on it in other WPs, multiple reliable sources on it 1, 2, 3. The burden of proof regarding it not being notable is 100% on you. I am in no way obliged to write an article about it prove its notability.--Catlemur (talk) 10:42, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Catlemur, YouTube is not a reliable source, 2 is not significant coverage, and I don't know what 3 is as I don't understand that language or can read it in full. JavaHurricane 10:44, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
The source is not YouTube. It is a documentary UPLOADED on Youtube so you should provide a critique of the documentary's quality instead of the hosting service. You not knowing Ukrainian is irrelevant, it is a scholarly work regardless of whether you speak the language.

Now prove those books are not WP:RS:

  • L. de Jong, Het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
  • J.L. van der Pauw, “Guerrilla in Rotterdam”, De paramilitaire verzetsgroepen 1940-1945, 1995, Sdu Uitgeverij Konninginnegracht, ’s-Gravenhage 1995.
  • Cammaert, A.P.M., 1994. Het Verborgen Front. Geschiedenis van de georganiseerde illegaliteit in de provincie Limburg tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Eisma B. V. Leeuwarden/Mechelen. Dissertatie.

Request on 00:40:09, 19 March 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Abigail Christine

I don't understand why multiple Wikipedia users are disputing the quality of my draft or the sources I cited. Every source I cited in my draft for Endeavor Business Media is a reputable media outlet. I disclosed that I work for the company and am only trying to create a factual entry in Wikipedia. All I'm seeing is negative comments, and only one user so far who helped to actually edit the page. I'm really getting discouraged and don't understand why this is so difficult. As an editor I appreciate adherence to high standards, but this feels like I'm being targeted. One user even noted how my company's headquarters looked suspicious on Google maps - this company is three years old and I have explained the growth of the company, citing acquisitions that linked to other companies with Wikipedia entries, such as PennWell or Informa. Anyway, I have tried to respond to all the comments and am only trying to resolve this and publish an entry for Endeavor Business Media. Abigail Christine (talk) 00:40, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Abigail Christine (talk) 00:40, 19 March 2021 (UTC) Abigail Christine (talk) 00:40, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Abigail Christine, no one is targeting you here. The problem of course is that the sources listed are not significant coverage but rather run of the mill coverage. Routine coverage about mergers, acquisitions, appointments, resignations, etc. usually do not constitute significant coverage as such sources do not discuss the subject in detail. The notability criteria for companies requires multiple (usually three), reliable, secondary sources that are intellectually independent of the subject and discuss the subject in good detail. I went through your sources and found that most sources are such announcements, which don't actually discuss the company in detail but merely make the announcement and give a few related quotes. Such sources may be used as references for mergers, etc. but they don't contribute to notability. Can you get such sources which satisfy the criteria I've mentioned? JavaHurricane 01:46, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Declined status of Endeavor Business Media entry

Hello, regarding your comment, "This is a well disguised advert bh a self identified paid editor. Many of the references are regurgitated press releases and PR material. They provide an aura of faux notability which is not required and adds no value. Indeed it diminishes Wikipedia's value."

Can you please explain where I cited a "regurgitated press release" or "PR material" in my entry? Every citation I used is a verifiable media outlet. I disclosed that I was employed by the company and am only trying to write a factual Wikipedia entry for it - I have no desire to place a "well disguised advert."

Premature page moves

Please revert those moves. There is currently a third discussion ongoing to discuss the fate of those articles. Moving/splitting them before that discussion ends is grossly inappropriate and borderline disruptive. BTW, the "split consensus" is a weak one at best. If the third discussion closes as a "support", not only do all of these moves have to be reverted again, but the page then has to be moved yet again to the new title. We should at least wait for the third discussion to conclude before doing anything. What is the point of discussing things if we're just going to be making these unilateral moves? LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 06:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The discussion is moot now as the first discussion closed in favour of a split: if the articles are split, the move discussion is pointless. I just closed it as moot. JavaHurricane 06:41, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is hardly moot. Active discussions are not moot when the same subject is still being discussed, especially as it has yet to conclude. That closure was quite inappropriate. We have two options here. Either I can restore the pages via pagemover, or I get an admin to restore the pages, because as it is right now, we have an active discussion and consensus has not yet been determined on the third option. But given the way that one is going, I think it is very likely that a retitled, combined article will be the final consensus. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 06:44, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, go restore it. I don't care anyways for WPTC anymore - I lost my faith long ago. If you think the close was bad, go revert me. It doesn't matter. JavaHurricane 06:47, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ugh. None of this sits well with me. I just want the discussions to wrap up and take things from there. I understand why you did what you did. But the truth is, it isn't appropriate in light of the situation. Especially not when there are still active discussions. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 06:50, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Have a good day. I'm already having a bad time and in a foul mood, and I daresay any discussion will be pointless. I'll be very happy if you don't trouble me. Thanks. JavaHurricane 06:51, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about what happened at Tropical Storm Amanda–Cristobal

Hey, I wanted to apologize for what happened between you and lightanddark2000 - I meant to close the RM at the same time as the above discussion, for the same reason as you - it was moot. You could re-do your edits and it would be justified, though I could understand why you may want to avoid that. The RM should not have been made in the first place, clearly, before the first discussion ended. Elli (talk | contribs) 07:34, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Advice requested

Hi JavaHurricane,

I'm the writer of the Karrot page and thanks for reviewing. Just a quick question--I was updating the page as per suggestions, but noticed that you left a comment on the older version. I continued working on the WIP version but seems like I unintentionally deleted your declines (which I noticed you commented on and voted to delete). Sorry that this happened. For better version management, can you share the link where I should make direct edits?

Thanks, Kyle

Hello Kwlee121. To edit the page, go to Draft:Karrot and click on the "edit" button at the top. But, please, please truthfully state how you are linked with Karrot, and if you are paid to write that page. Thanks. JavaHurricane 09:17, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Misunderstanding regarding Paid editing

Hi, this is the second time i am getting this message, last time when I created this article BoAt and now this. I want to make it clear that i am a boy from India that too who is doing engineering. How will i have affiliation wuth a medical company. I told it before to a user that my internet really sucks and i do short edits and publish them (Like one or two line) cause I don't want to lose what I have written. That's why you see a lot of edits of my edits at a single time on an article. I have also added financials in Thyrocare, Lenskart, Nykaa and many more. This article about Intas Biopharmaceuticals was so badly written and presented so I thought of updating as a whole. So i added more information, financials with proper sources and removed unwanted links. But now i saw that you have removed it. It's a request that please bring back to my edits because many of the things were written wrong in the article and now it was right (You can cross check it from google). I herby decalre that I am NOT a paid user and just a random user from India who love to edits articles on wikipedia. Thank you and I hope your doubts are clear. Sorry for any inconvenience :) Badassboy 63637 (talk) 05:24, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

That said, why are you adding covertly promotional material, improperly cited, to company pages? Your editing pattern is suspicious, to be fair. JavaHurricane 05:28, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can you specify what promotional material I added? I just added acquisitions, products and history with proper citations you can check. The image of headquarters is generally in infobox but it is down there in the article. I made a proper gallery for products and time. I removed wiki links of people who don't have wikipedia pages. I added employee year, revenue and updated infobox with proper citations. So what's wrong here and I saw that you didn't brought back the edits which i done. Go on Intas Biopharmaceuticals in external links and click on official site it is saying server not available. I don't know why people thing some one paid me even though you can check my edit history its diversified. Request to check the article and citations yourself. I just totally updated it. Badassboy 63637 (talk) 06:14, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I do not think I need to explain how your edits were promotional. You know it too well. An example of inappropriateness is citing the company page for information, which is not acceptable usually. See WP:PRIMARY. JavaHurricane 06:19, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bro, I know you are wikipedian. I would like to create about Lady Dugu (Empress Yuanzhen),mother of Emperor Gaozu of Tang. She was also known for being the sister of Empress Dugu Jialuo and Empress Dugu of Northern Zhou. I have known much about her. All you need to help is to set the wikipedia page. I can't create myself!

I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about Chinese history, so I am afraid I cannot help. JavaHurricane 07:41, 3 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I got the same message on my talk page. I directed the IP to the Draft area. The IP likely found out about me through automated editing on articles about Chinese women. I don't know about you. Scorpions13256 (talk) 23:56, 5 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Nat Bowen speedy deletion

Hello, can you advise how the Nat Bowen article is promotional? I thought I had referenced everything sufficiently? Hans Sachs (talk) 14:08, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ckennedy18: "sourcing" really doesn't have much to do with promotion: the tone of your article only tends to promote the subject without actually providing the reader with much information. Attaching adjectives like "vibrant", etc. to describe the article subject is clear promotion. JavaHurricane 14:26, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, well I tried to stay neutral. Do you have any advice of how I can improve the article? Hans Sachs (talk) 14:29, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

FWIW, the article has been deleted by an admin (I'm not one). That said, how are you linked with Bowen, Ckennedy18? JavaHurricane 14:33, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

No. She is an emerging artist and I felt she met the notability criteria. A shame it has been deleted. Can it be salvaged? Hans Sachs (talk) 14:40, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

John Mariani Draft - notability

Hello JavaHurricane, Thanks for reviewing the draft of John Mariani https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:John_Mariani You commented that most of the sources are passing mentions. There are several articles which do focus on him and contain more than passing mentions ((including the older ones which I haven't been able to find digitally but have hard copies of). But if you feel these don't count, could you help me understand which of these criteria the page doesn't meet?

"If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability" There are over 20 from a selection of national and regional press.

"The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times" He has been nominated for and received Wiki recognised awards for his work

"The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field" His works are used a reference for multiple other Wiki pages such as definitions of food types (eg the sub sandwich, Bloody Mary cocktail)

Apart from the above, I believe that journalists are viewed differently as they are the ones who write, rather than be written about.

I would be grateful if you could advise me on what else is required.

Many thanks --Factelf4 (talk) 06:45, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Factelf4: sorry for the late reply; I've been unwell of late.
1) Many of the sources you use (the online ones; I can't say the same about the offline sources) are indeed just passing mentions or otherwise do not give in-depth ("significant") coverage of the subject, or otherwise are unreliable sources, run-of-the-mill sources or interviews (which are "primary" sources: Wikipedia needs secondary sources).
2) I don't think that the awards in question are so important to the field in question that they alone indicate that he is notable. Usually, we are looking for something like a Pulitzer, a Nobel, or something of the sort: an extremely prestigious award.
3) The third criterion refers either to significant impacts made by the person on his field, e.g. Da Vinci, or Faraday for instance, or to a large number of citations in papers or in articles where his work features prominently.
I will happily admit that I don't have in-depth knowledge of the field, so I'd rather refer you to WP:AFCHD, where I hope that you will get better help than here. JavaHurricane 10:09, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Questions about sources for John Mariani draft

Hi. You reviewed my draft of John Mariani last month and gave me some feedback about sources. I'm very delayed in getting back to you so think the thread has been archived (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:JavaHurricane/Archive_2#John_Mariani_Draft_-_notability) but hoping that I could come back to you for further clarification (do hope you're feeling better by the way).

There are articles from Houston Press, Boston Globe, Vie Magazine, NY Times, Houston Chronicle, LA Times, Chicago Tribue, National Review, Washington Times and Washington Post all of which focus on Mariani specifically and which are not passing mentions. I also have digital copies of other articles but which I can't get access to online. Is there a way of adding those/showing you to help prove his notability? Struggling to see why he wouldn't be notable enough, especially when I see these criteria for creative professionals which includes journalists and authors. For example:

The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors - references show the importance places on Mariani's awards when working for Esquire for 35 years.

The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums - his books have won awards and the references show that they are widely referenced, including by Wiki pages on food.

Thanks for your help --Factelf4 (talk) 13:46, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

In which case I suggest you put up the draft for review, Factelf4. I'm indisposed at the moment, and unfortunately would be unable to review the draft. I do think someone will review the draft and its sources soon enough, hopefully. JavaHurricane 13:58, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. Do I just resubmit the draft even though I've made no changes since you rejected it? Factelf4 (talk) 13:59, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Factelf4: If you have added those sources to the IP, do so. If you haven't added source to the draft, please add them first as citations for some material. JavaHurricane 14:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

The sources were always there as citations, hence I'm questioning as would have thought they would quality. Thanks Factelf4 (talk) 14:05, 9 September 2021 (UTC) Correction - qualify not quality!Factelf4 (talk) 14:05, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Very well, Factelf4. If you think that the references qualify, feel free to submit for review. JavaHurricane 14:15, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Query

Hi, You moved Şakir Bayhan to draft and also nominated Piper Rockelle for afd. I have no issues with it. Anyways, Per my clarification upon checking google news search for Piper Rockelle I saw a number of sources available online that's why I accepted it. Also, For Şakir Bayhan, Please check DGG comment. NagalimNE (talk) 08:32, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notability is not the only factor to consider while reviewing AfC drafts. Şakir Bayhan might indeed be notable, but in its current state it cannot stay in the mainspace. And as for Rockelle, I saw the sources, which are run-of-the-mill sources that do not contribute to notability. JavaHurricane 08:57, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi JavaHurricane.

Could you please re-check Şakir Bayhan page that i have been trying to complete. I made some revisions and send a message to NagalimNE as well.

Looking forward to your valuable feedbacks.

Thanks a lot in advance.

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello JavaHurricane,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Unreliable sources

Greetings I have noticed that you have been engaging certain folks on the Panjshir valley attack regarding Indian sources I have today discovered this source [2] This clearly mentions that India today was posting fake images of f-16s from the Pakistan air force being shot down in the Panjshir Valley, But according to the US site military.com, the photo was actually from an accident of an US F-16 Fighting Falcon jet that crash-landed "during a routine training flight near the Arizona-California border" on April 24, 2018. The fact that this fake news outlet is being used as some sort of reliable source is shocking to me I think Indian sources cannot really be trusted when it comes to this event at all. Also a recent BBC news article casts doubts over all these claims and states it cannot be proven. Kusoap00 (talk) 21:51, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Kusoap00: while I do regard Indian sources with some caution in Pakistan-related matters for obvious reasons, and have small faith in Indian news channels, I would appreciate it if you could provide a source better than Global Times, which has been shown to be a spreader of fake news and propaganda, to prove that India Today is unreliable. See WP:GLOBALTIMES. JavaHurricane 04:23, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@JavaHurricane: Thanks for replying. I dont know what you mean to prove India Today spreads fake news? Watch the news report itself [3] The clip from the website clearly shows a report by India Today showing the fake image of a f-16 fighter being shot down they used a fake twitter account as a base for their "breaking news" you can even play the news report itself and watch the India Today news anchor for proof clearly attempting fake news play the video its "Breaking news report" which shows the the so called downed f-16 fighter its well known India Today (like the majority of Indian news outlets are promoting fake news against Pakistan) spreads fake news even domestically [4] Again India Today uses Twitter as its source of information I am still baffled about how you dont consider it unreliable when in regards to Pakistan it clearly is. Kusoap00 (talk) 07:24, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@JavaHurricane: Sorry I missed out this website which spotted India Todays fake news [5] And The Quint which also called out India Today for spreading fake news on Panjshir [6] and to quote Quint "India Today used a tweet by account '@mohsood123', which claimed to be the official account of Ahmad Massoud – leader of the NRF – and reported that a Pakistani jet was shot down in the area. However, we found that the Twitter account whose tweets were shared by the media was not Ahmad Massoud's actual account. Massoud, who is NRF's founder, tweets from '@AhmadMassoud01'. The image that the account had shared, claiming to show a Pakistani Jet shot down by the Resistance is also old." Just to add there are other websites which also exposed India Todays fake news but If you want more I can provide. India Today are notorious for their use of Twitter as a source of information and I believe the reports coming from them are highly dubious and unreliable particularly in this topic area of Pak\Afghanistan. Kusoap00 (talk) 07:28, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Could you really try giving me a link to a reliable source? All the sources you link are unreliable, except for the Quint, and as for the Massoud incident, even NYT makes mistakes. People have evaluated India Today over several years and they concluded that India Today has a very good track record of fact checking. If I remember correctly, India Today later acknowledged the Twitter fake account problem. If India Today is amenable to admitting and fixing mistakes, that makes them reliable enough. And again, I've said this before: I'm very cautious about Indian sources in Pakistan-related matters, which is why I think that only "alleged" should be used in the article for now. The fact that the EU considered a resolution on Pakistan's involvement in Panjshir must also be considered, however. I can certainly see better sourcing coming up in the coming weeks on the matter. JavaHurricane 08:01, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think instilling the "Alleged" portion is the bare minimum since the resolution itself relies on comments from NRF members in contact with EU parliament members. I am not sure if more reliable sources will come through like the BBC/Guardian or CNN etc none of them reported the fake news like the Indian media did probably because unlike India they do not really have much of a interest in smearing or setting narratives against Pakistan. I think the alleged portion should stay unless mainstream global sources also report the same which I doubt they will as the Indian Media as a whole relies on twitter feeds particularly when it comes to Pakistan they can be very reckless in choosing sources. I also understand that India has a vested interest in smearing Pakistan as its lost all of its influence in Afghanistan and a regional rivalry exists so its understandable they will bend the rules when it comes to Pakistan. Thank you for replying and take care thanks for being fair Wikipedia can sometimes feel very hostile if you oppose certain narratives from a certain country. A news source being from an RS doesn't make it significant coverage, Tajwar.thesuperman. Source 4 is a short announcement with zero discussion of the institute, and as such is not significant coverage. Ref 5 is not about the college, as far as I can tell, but about a person who was teaching there. Again, not significant coverage about the college. Ref 6 is about another teacher and not about the college. Ref 7 doesn't seem related, and seems to be a government site. JavaHurricane 08:27, 23 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am not likely to be a frequent editor. My son is a very active editor for Wikipedia. But, if I come across something I think falls short of good information, I may do some research and post updated information. I will 'message' you if I have questions.

Hello Subhajit511! Welcome to Wikipedia. It depends on a case by case basis: in general, the answer is no. In rare cases, where information about a young person can be verified using reliable sources, and the minor is notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, we may allow adding that information. But generally, the answer is no due to privacy considerations. JavaHurricane 18:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello JavaHurricane. I just wanted to thank you for opting-in to receive these notifications. This is the first bot-notification of the trial now in progress. In this case, the notification is a bit late as the goal is to have them posted within 24 hours of the original message. I anticipate that things will improve over time. I'd like to reiterate that you are under no obligation to endorse this or any posted message although you are certainly welcome if you are so inclined. In considering an endorsement, you have fulfilled what was asked of you opting-in. I won't be messaging you in the future when this notification posts, and don't mean to encroach on you now. I am messaging you this time for two reasons; first: because this is the beginning of the trial and I did want to send you my thanks. And, second: because I wanted to tell you about another editor I messaged (without using the template) but you may know this former admin whose tools were removed for inactivity (not under a cloud) and again, you are certainly welcome to consider endorsing that message as well. It is on the talk page of user:Toddst1[7]. I wish you the best and thank you again.--John Cline (talk) 06:17, 2 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question from Ericesundberg on National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal (19:09, 15 November 2021)

Hello, I received the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal (NIDSM) on 13 June 1997, how do I get my name added to "Know Recipients"? I have the medals and the citation, signed by George Tenet. --Ericesundberg (talk) 19:09, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ericesundberg: Welcome to Wikipedia! Generally, such lists only contain people who are notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia; the name of the person is referenced generally to a reliable source, say Reuters or NYT for instance. As you are an awardee, and your award is one of the most important in the hierarchy of the Intelligence, you might be notable enough to be included, as per these additional criteria. That said, I want to confirm that with some of my more experienced colleagues. I will let you know their opinion as soon as possible. JavaHurricane 17:36, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mentor. I would like to know the step to publish the attached draft page entitled "Namrata Sapkota" , the request to publish the page done by previous authors was declined twice. --Aashish.Serestha (talk) 07:24, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Replied on the draft. JavaHurricane 07:51, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question from PratSingh on Field strength (17:17, 22 November 2021)

Hi, I'm quite new here and would like to know what are some of the recommended websites to get scientific research work and data from? --PratSingh (talk) 17:17, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello PratSingh! Welcome to Wikipedia. I am not a content creator, and am afraid I have not much of an idea about appropriate sources in science articles. That said, I'll refer you to the Teahouse: there are many experienced editors who regularly help out there, and I am sure you will find an answer there. Happy editing! uncensored with ali tajdary

hello, thank you for informing me about this article, i thoroughly reviewed the article, and by the way, since it was deleted, i wanted to return it to the wikipedia space, because i think the article is worth registering in wikipedia, and the reason for deleting it was a war between users. the user who created this article had insulted other users and for this reason almost three other users had requested to delete it and also the request to keep the article was deleted by the user who was blocked. the article is important because it is about a tv series with global coverage on a global network and a government platform. But the users who requested the removal had a problem with the links to the article.thats why i added the appropriate links that cover the whole article, such as the newspaper "shoroo" is a national newspaper, as well as three news agencies that have talked about it in full.i think the article has good ratings and deserves to be registered on wikipedia.--Confermation (talk) 14:14, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I reviewed that discussion before declining, and I daresay that the arguments there were excellent and hardly untoward. There is a well-argued consensus that the show is not notable, and I am afraid that the draft won't get accepted anytime soon. Try again, say a few months later, Confermation. Create a Wikipedia page about me.

Hi,

I just wanted advice on how you can make a Wikipedia page about me.

A simple search on Wikipedia of “Anthony Khallouf” brings up information about myself & another search of “Australians vs The Agenda” brings up another article about my brands.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_protests_in_Australia Anthony Khallouf (talk) 13:06, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Anthony Khallouf: I'd urge you to leave a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles if you are interested. See also WP:AUTOBIO and WP:COI. JavaHurricane 13:09, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Your OS ping in IRC

Hi JavaHurricane! I saw that (presumably) you pinged for an oversighter in IRC earlier today. Did you end up getting help with your request? If not, just shoot me an email and I can take a look. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:12, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Oshwah! No worries, Primefac has done the necessary work. Thank you! JavaHurricane 02:33, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question from Polygork (09:36, 14 December 2021)

Hello, the note template "efn", how do you get the hatnote "[a]" to appear, so that when you move the mouse pointer to it for PC or tap on the "[a]" on a touchscreen device, a note would appear. --Polygork (talk) 09:36, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Polygork! Welcome to Wikipedia. Honestly speaking, my knowledge of templates is very poor, compared to other things. I'd refer to The Teahouse, where people with more technical expertise should be able to answer you. I'm sorry I can't solve your doubts. JavaHurricane 09:53, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
