2011 NFL lockout

Hi, I noticed you added "player testing for performance-enhancing drugs, including HGH" to the 2011 NFL lockout article. I think the HGH testing came later in the game. I think it may be connected to some lingering negotiations, but it seems a little out of context with the other wins in that same paragraph. I think this either needs to be removed or you need to add a little context. Currently it implies the tests were approved during the lockout, which is not the case. New Hamilton Stadium

As I did... the barebones is at York Athletics Stadium. There's still a new stadium being built in Hamilton (the Tiger-Cats are still going ahead with the demolition of Ivor Wynne), though, and that's the stadium the original "Pan American Stadium" article described. (For the record, Pan American Stadium's redirect goes to the York Athletics Stadium stub right now.) Also note: I've seen nothing in the news about the soccer games going to York University; the soccer matches, despite some controversies, are still slated for the new Hamilton stadium. J. OK, here's what I found: there are at least two articles that discuss the story in the context of Arthur Rankin's dispute with Warner Bros. over the 1974-87 library, one from the Mid-Ocean News and the other from Forbes, but both are from 2008 and are dead links. You can go ahead and refer to it in the past tense. But knowing the nature of indoor football, you never know who might want to salvage this league just to keep it going. As much as I love the CIFL, it think it's wonderful to see a consolidation of the number of leagues. Best of luck to Erie in the PIFL. The storm was so named by local politicians (not meteorologists), and is being used in some media. But, FEMA has not assigned a name to this weather event. @JMyrleFuller: please keep calm. Media Matters of America source was added by another editor, another editor stated where Salon got the information, and I attributed the source. Therefore if this editor has any anger, please direct that energy properly. The edit, which I reverted, was done without references, therefore per WP:BURDEN it was completely proper to revert it.

@Cyphoidbomb: There was an assertion (admittedly uncited but not mine) in the original article that the episodes of that series were referred to as "chapters" in an overall story. That is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a telenovela in general (which, as its name implies, is a television simulation of how a novel would play out). It may be original research, but it appears the show fits the definition of a telenovela based on how it's described in that article: a medium length run (52 episodes, perhaps a bit shorter than most Latin American ones but not unprecedented among other U.S. telenovelas), a serial format, continuing story arcs among one big story that wraps up at the end, melodrama, etc. Like I said, maybe OR on my part, but the description of "telenovela" seems, at least from my perspective, to best describe the format that show used. Well, IMHO, this is a controversial edit. Even if we encouraged unsourced genre, telenovela, with its Latin implications seems a stretch simply because it's serialized with an end. As of now it's not yet on the schedule, so until they actually add the series and start airing the episodes, it's best that it be listed in potential programming. It's still not entirely clear that they actually will be able to secure the music rights yet (although WKRP in Cincinnati pulled off that feat with sound-alikes, so never say never) so I'm waiting until they actually put the show on the block before I declare it part of the block. Your Oscar bait edit

"Pandering to the Academy's biases"? I admit that's one way to put it but when I wrote that section I tried to avoid such strongly pejorative language. I wasn't intending that phrasing to be pejorative, per se. "Aspiring" did not seem to have the connotation that seemed to fit the article. I think most quality films "aspire" for an Oscar nomination, but the act of "Oscar bait" implies a more cynical, manipulative approach to it: a more targeted campaign not necessarily on the film's merits but on playing on what the filmmakers perceive are biases on the part of the Academy, and making the film with the sole purpose of resonating with those biases (which, quite frankly, is pandering). Girl Meets World - "Average young teen girl"

Hi! Just thought I'd drop a note here in case you wanted to discuss further. My reasoning for reverting your most recent edit is because per WP:TVLEAD, the lead sentence of an article should be as concise as possible. "Young teen girl" doesn't really add anything that wasn't already there, and "young" and "teen" are pretty synonymous. "Adolescence," which was already in the article also further explains this without needing the added words. "Girl" is implied from the series' title (as Riley is the main character), and even if the reader didn't understand this, the word "her" just a few words later in the same sentence already notes Riley's gender, so to add "girl" in addition would just be repetitious. "Average" doesn't quite seem fitting for Riley's personality. The series seems to go out of its way to present Riley as very unlike most teenagers in the sense that she's much more chipper/optimistic than most of her peers, in addition to how quirky she is. The recurring theme of Riley's identity being referred to as "Rileytown" (because she is odd/quirky but embraces it) also, in my personal opinion, makes the addition of "average" inaccurate. I understand your concerns. I think even "average" people can have somewhat weird quirks, especially those in their early teens. I don't think in her case, her quirks particularly overwhelmed her personality. She wasn't, for example, a one-dimensional stock character who is built entirely around those quirks, which is why I described her on the whole as "average." She's not the high-achiever like Farkle, or the hard-luck kid the way Maya is. Her school performance is middling, and her family life is middle-class. I purposely avoided using the term "normal." As for the use of the word "girl," Riley is a gender-neutral name so I figured it added some clarity. I hope that explains why I described it the way I did. J. Thanks for explaining further. I would have been okay with keeping "girl" (though as I mentioned it seems better without, as "her" is just a few words later which identifies her gender without the need to restate the word "girl"), though if we remove "young teen" then "girl" sounds awkward, as you wouldn't say "The series follows the adventures of girl Riley Matthews." I agree that her quirks don't completely overwhelm her personality, but in my opinion they also make her stand out and characterize her personality somewhat. I respectfully disagree that Riley's quirks are just a teenage phase, as some of the things she does are clearly something even most teenagers wouldn't do, such as carrying glitter around in her pocket ("A Christmas Maya") and having to be comforted by Maya cuddling her (the example that comes to mind most is from "She Don't Like Me," where I believe Maya even sings something along the lines of "Go to sleep, you little nutjob. Come back when you're normal!") I suppose I could cite "Bay Window" as well, where the adult version of Riley appears and is shown to be still quite quirky. Though my opinion may be slightly influenced by the fact that I have a bit of a quirky personality myself lol. Hopefully my explanation makes sense and apologies if I'm being a bit nitpicky here. @KatnissEverdeen: I added back part of that as I explained in the edit history. Teen is a fairly wide range and issues that impact 13 year old children entering adolescence are far different from those of young adults at 19 so specifying young teen is somewhat needed. Monotype Modern 8A-based on the Century family

Hello, thanks for this edit. Do you have a specialist source specifically saying Monotype's inspiration for Modern 8A was the Century family? There were a lot of generic faces of this kind of design around from the 1820s onwards–it was the standard type of font used for book and news body text at this time–and I've not seen a source saying that the Century family was the specific inspiration for Modern 8A e.g. McGrew's American Metal Typefaces of the Twentieth Century doesn't say this. And Century was ATF's originally, with the Linotype adaptation coming later. But I'd be interested to see if you have a source. Blythwood (talk) 22:32, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

• Hey, sorry but I still don't agree with your current edit. It's not really the case as far as I'm aware that there was a 'trend' towards change in contrast levels towards lower contrast in modern-face type design towards the end of the nineteenth century–certainly it's not mentioned by the major sources on type design in this period such as Morison Type Designs Past and Present, Updike Printing types or Shaw in Revival Type. I've looked at prints of Monotype's modern faces from the original metal type in MacGrew's American Metal Typefaces of the Twentieth Century and it doesn't look particularly low contrast or mention such a trend either.
  As a suggestion, I wonder if you've been misled by images of (metal or digital) Didone fonts designed for large sizes, which have a pretty high contrast to look glamorous. But Computer Modern is based on 10pt type which can't help but be more rugged (it's actually not that low-contrast, either, to my eyes, but I can't say I'm a reliable source!). (See e.g. this image of Century Expanded in eight different point sizes, how the type was machined differently at different point sizes with less contrast and more ink-squeeze showing, or this professional Didot digitisation.) Fair enough. For the record, and this might be OR, but my comparison point was Bodoni, which I've seen a lot of in books written in the mid-19th century, and anyone who's ever read something in Bodoni would recognize that it has a huge thickness in its vertical strokes even in body text. Compare with the 1890s Didones; you have Century that was released by ATF in 1894, and Modern by Monotype in 1896, and while they may not be perfectly identical and I have no way to source it as one being based off the other specifically (though Monotype does admit it was based on the type of its time, as stated in the source I added from a Monotype-owned site; the novelty of Modern was the Monotype process itself more than any new design), they both bear strong similarities to each other, especially to the casual observer, and both only have the Bodoni-like thickness at bold weights. The main reason I made that statement was to give a perspective for people who may not be typophiles or experts by comparing it to a typeface that might be familiar. Monotype Modern doesn't have an article of its own (Century does, hence why, along with the similarities in form and era, I used that as an example). The other factor is also that Knuth chose the extended version of Modern (compare to the later Century Schoolbook) as his primary source, and stretching the overall character while leaving the width of the strokes the same itself reduces the extremity of it all.? I think I know the kind of heavy Bodoni types you mean (Hugh Williamson called a revival "Bodoni, not necessarily at his worst and by no means at his best, but certainly at his utmost"...), but lighter high-contrast Didone faces were very common throughout the nineteenth century, for instance I put in the Didone article the title page to the first edition of Great Expectations, where the smaller text is quite slender, although the condensed (titling?) caps are a little bit bolder. Everyone made them, or copied them–you need very sharp eyes to say who cut what type, so claiming one is specifically based on another is a bold statement without a direct source. (In the Handbuch Der Schriftarten of 1928 Didone faces fill about 10 pages from p75 onwards, and those are just the ones on offer from German foundries-although some of those were probably clones of one another.) Indeed Bodoni's own types varied a lot in colour on the page, with some (especially his early ones) much lighter. Blythwood (talk) 20:58, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

It deserves more reorganization, as your new material on the history of the "box" is a digression where you have put it, and would be better in a section on history. "Prism" confused me; I am guessing this was a triangular pointer. It's nothing particularly important. It was just a minor detail on some road sign icons he designed several years back; the font was slightly off on his 1960s New York state route designs—they didn't use Highway Gothic (what TMF used for the icons), instead they used a different type design. Since it's just icons, and whoever would tasked with revamping them to match the actual type New York used might have to come up with the new font from scratch (something that could be potentially time-consuming), it's probably something that can be left as it is. That source says "The organization of Olean’s Jewish community essentially dates back to 1881, with the arrival of merchant Harris W. Marcus, who had lived in Mobile, Ala., and Brooklyn before visiting relatives here." That's the date Olean's Jewish community was (more-or-less) first established, not the date Temple B'Nai Israel was established. It also says "As the Jewish community grew, it formed the Olean Hebrew Association in 1894, changing its name to the Olean Hebrew Congregation in 1896." @Jayjg: I think the B'Nai Israel name refers specifically to the Temple building itself, which was built in 1929. The implication in that article, especially with Marcus being the common thread through all of them, is that organizationally, they were the same, though the name might have initially been different. Buffalo Beauts

Please stop adding WP:OR and WP:SYNTH based off your research and just be patient until something is officially announced regarding their name and arena issues. Yes, they are a bit in limbo, but they have months to sort it out. It is also not uncommon to hold free agent camps at rinks with cheaper rent, pretty much every minor league holds their camps at rec rinks. See 2019 Indy Fuel (at The Forum at Fishers), 2019 Brampton Beast (at a community center), Manchester Monarch in 2018 (at Tri-Town in Hooksett), etc as just a couple of examples in the ECHL. SPHL Pensacola held one in Illinois. So insinuating anything is considered SYNTH until it says "The Buffalo whatevers have moved home games to Northtown", like they did with CT to Danbury. The longer the dispute goes, the more difficult it could be for the NWHL to secure ice time, given the heavy demand. The Buffalo News Where does that say they are not at the HarborCenter next season. It says "difficult to secure" and "potential new venue". Extrapolating any further is WP:OR. @Yosemiter: The sources cited both clearly state that any agreement to use HarborCenter has been terminated and that no new, superseding lease agreement has been procured, neither at HarborCenter nor elsewhere. Ergo, they do not, as of now, use HarborCenter, and should not be returned to being listed as such unless there is a new agreement. To say that they, in the present tense, play at HarborCenter is false, as the sources cited already state that 1) Pegula will not let them use that arena without a lease, and 2) there is no lease right now. I have never claimed that they're moving to the Northtown Center for 2019, only that that is the venue they are using temporarily for offseason activities, something supported by the sources. If, and only if, there is a rental/lease agreement between the NWHL and PSE, should we continue to make that claim. They could end up back at HarborCenter, though most of the sources indicate that that might be unlikely at this point. They could play at the Northtown Center. Heck, the way things are going, the whole league could go kaput between now and the start of the season. We don't know. It's pure speculation in violation of WP:CRYSTALBALL to assume that an agreement will be signed at this point and until there is one, we should not assume that they currently use the facility. J. I am under no delusions speculating a lease will be signed. In fact, I believe the opposite. However, as I stated repeatedly, the NWHL has indicated their wish to stay at HarborCenter and has made no other indications to the contrary. Similar to the Oakland Raiders situation this past offseason, the lease ended, there was speculation they would be kicked out over bad blood, but a deal was worked out anyways. We never removed their home then (and when it was, it was reverted), and there is no reason to do so here either. And you keep saying "temporarily for offseason activities", which is incorrect and not supported by references. They are having a singular free agent camp at Northtown. Yes, it is because they don't have ice time at the HarborCenter, but no sources say they have moved to to Northtown "temporarily for offseason activities". And as I have shown, is very common in other leagues to hod off-site free agent camps, even when they have a valid lease. Also agreed that the league may shutter for the year. @Yosemiter: I am handling (or at least trying to handle) this situation the same way the situation for the 2019 Oakland Raiders season was handled, and the parallel is quite strong in this case: both teams' venue lease expired or terminated, and there were negotiations and several possibilities for what would happen the following season. In that case, the Raiders' lease on the then-Oakland Coliseum was renewed, though that was an unlikely possibility at the time. Between the time of the end of the 2018 season and until an agreement was announced for 2019, the Raiders' home stadium was listed as "TBA." That was a consensus that most other editors agreed with in that case, and that's the approach that I personally think we should take with the Beauts' situation right now. J. If there was a 2019–20 Beauts season page, I would agree with you there as it is implicitly talking about a future event, so it would be speculation on the 2019 arena. However, that is not what is going on. It should be treated like how the Oakland Raiders and National Football League main articles were treated. The main consensus there is that it should have the most recent verifiable home arena. It was never removed from the NFL page and there were minor edits back and forth on the Raiders page, but most kept the Coliseum listed for those months post-lease expiration (most of the edit wars there were the changes calling the team Las Vegas, changing it to Oracle, and such). It should also be noted that neither the infobox on the team page, nor the NWHL page, use the term "current arena". Just simply "arena" and "primary arena". Meant to be somewhat vague. We don't actually know that they are still negotiating through anything verifiable, it could be at a stalemate. I suggest "...and lost automatic rights to the use of HarborCenter. The NWHL has indicated it intends to play at the Harborcenter, but would need a new lease for the 2019–20 season. The NWHL also continues to use the Beauts branding." I mean, they really should have signed the documents to take over the name when it was offered, but they actually have made no comment on the name other then they still use it. JMyrleFuller, upon the renewal of Last Man Standing for an eighth season last May, you inserted this sentence on its article: "Last Man Standing was placed in a Thursday night time slot and will only air in weeks when Fox is not airing NFL or XFL games." I posted on the Last Man Standing talk page last Thursday (October 17) that while I understood LMS being held until midseason because of NFL Thursday Night Football, I didn't know the Fox Network was going to telecast XFL games on Thursdays as well, and LMS could be in for a short season if this news were true. Local Accuweather Affiliates

Greetings, have a quick question regarding the affiliates listed for the Local AccuWeather channel on this page: List of The Local AccuWeather Channel affiliates. Specifically, the section "Affiliated with AccuWeather without AccuWeather video content". Since it looks like most of them do not broadcast anything related to AccuWeather, how do we determine if these stations are still affiliated with AccuWeather? The link to the affiliates page on Rabbitears now just re-directs to the Accuweather homepage. Is there another way to check if a station is still affiliated? Thanks! @PlnOTA: Thanks for asking. Most of them are channels that used to carry the full channel but now produce a channel in-house, under the assumption that they are still subscribed to AccuWeather. That was the easiest way I could separate WMVT, which at last check was still carrying their own in-house feed with AccuWeather data, from WFAA's carriage of the actual video feed known as "The Local AccuWeather Channel." The exception is the Ithaca one, as being a Southern Tier resident (and having unsuccessfully applied for work at WENY many years ago), I know at the very least used to subscribe to AccuWeather. Truth be told, since they're not true affiliates of the video feed known as The Local AccuWeather Channel, and because it's blatantly OR (and a particular admin has been on my case about this sort of thing lately), it's probably best that that part of the list be removed. Of course, if WFAA eventually goes all-in-house, this whole argument might well be moot, since the article might no longer have a reason for existing and would go up for an AfD/merge discussion anyway. The station's website (http://yourtv22.com/) shows that Decades replaced it on 22.5, but both Rabbitears (https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=wcbz-cd) and TitanTV (https://www.titantvguide.com/?siteid=77592) show that Accuweather moved to new subchannel 22.7. I reached out to the user who made this change to see if they happen to receive the station. I'll give them some time to reply, but do you think it should be added back to the full affiliate list? @PlnOTA: There are also a few other channels I'm not sure about: K42HL (a repeater for KNVN and KHSL-TV) according to RabbitEars and whoever edited Wikipedia last is carrying AccuWeather on 24.6. KPNX, I only removed that one because I can't verify if it was still carrying AccuWeather on their "12 News Weather" channel or not. Then there's KAVU-DT4. The Wikipedia list says "replaced by Stadium" but RabbitEars still has that channel as AccuWeather and their own TV listings show it's still a weather channel (though it uses a generic icon)—so that one may or may not still be an affiliate and the affiliate switch to Stadium appears to be a mistake. They appear to have switched to an in-house production, at least for the video feed being broadcast. Loops between local radar, 10-day local weather outlooks, Texas radar, regional radars, national radars, airport conditions, traffic conditions, various tower cams around DFW, and some ads. Audio is NOAA and sometimes generic instrumental music. Don't see anything AccuWeather-branded anymore, but unsure if they are getting their national weather data from AccuWeather, or another source. @Nightscream: I will try to find a better source—I had merely recycled an article that was cited in the character's page sources—though she does fit the description of an initially minor character who emerges as the focal point of a series. Perhaps a tag of "better source needed" would be suited until such a better source can be found (and with a few Cleary obits circulating, it probably will be pretty easy). J. J, please stop adding material to articles that is not supported by the sources you cite, as you did with this addition to the article. Neither of the two sources mention that she was a breakout star, or most of this information. The only thing they both mention is that they was on one show, got her own, and it wasn't that good, and the final sentence of your addition was not even accompanied by a citation. Jmyrle, as the editor who started that article years ago and has seen a lot of back and forth over this or that character being on the page, I am asking you more strongly to check sources before you add material to it so that you can be certain it fits. Since that discussion above Nightscream has reverted you twice (here and here). That's four times in total, all in the last four months. That's enough that some sort of action may have to be taken if you persist, which I really don't want to do since you have generally been a pretty productive editor.

If you have questions about a source and how it can be interpreted, put it on the article talk page ... there have been a number of other such discussions there and the temperature is a lot lower than it gets in edit summaries. Daniel Case (talk) 18:43, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

@Qwerfjkl: As a general rule, I try not to cite YouTube or other social media, unless it's an official page (in this case, it came from Sedaka's own official YouTube page, which publishes his mini-concerts along with several of his other official social media accounts) and it's not avoidable without leaving the information out—in which case the standard caveats regarding primary sources apply. @Sundayclose: OK, I think I know where the impasse is: we are missing a source as to when Swift plans on completing the remastering process. I seem to recall that there is a stipulation in Swift's contract that requires a certain passage of time before she can re-record her Big Machine albums. Those albums will almost certainly not be completed before March 2023, when The Eras Tour (already announced, with ample sources on that page—which, I will note, was published after the never-verified claims that Swift used the rerecording process as her out) begins. The problem we have is that the sources currently on Wikipedia do not specify how long that period is. If they did, we would have proof that the claim was untrue. But as of now, I do not. It might be out there, but I am not in the mood to search for it now. So, it not being a particularly crucial or relevant fact in the overall context of Super Bowl LVII, I removed it. That's subjective; I'll admit. But whether that claim is there or not does not substantially change things. She turned it down, at least according to the sources; that's really all that needs to be said, and I removed the statement of questionable (and probably untrue) accuracy as a compromise. I am erring on the side of caution on that particular topic. I will drop the issue for now but if I catch you engaging in any more edit wars with me, I will take this up with higher-ups.
