Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Country articles edit

Please take care with your editing. The opening sections of articles about countries have generally been worked on by many editors over many years, and represent a consensus over what information is best provided in those opening sections. Many editors have those articles on their watchlist. Adding information - whether accurate, or well-written, or not - requires some explanation, and this is best done by raising the changes you would like to see, on the article talk page, before you edit the article, so that other editors can see whether or not they agree with you. Otherwise, your edits are likely to be reverted. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:37, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Philippines article edit

Hi. I saw these recent edits you made to the Philippines article. The insertion of "(Republic of China)" as clarification for "Taiwan" bothered me a bit, for two reasons: (1) the thrust here is geographic, not political, and (2) if that clarification is made, it seems to me that it ought to be balanced by a clarification of "Mainland China" as "(PRC)". This didn't bother me enough to make me revert that part of the edits and I couldn't quickly identify what improvement I would make, so I left it the way you edited it. I think it needs tweaking, but I don't know offhand how it ought to be tweaked so I'm just mentioning my concern to you here.   Hello, I'm Wikaviani. Your recent edit(s) to the page Iran appear to have added incorrect information, so they have been reverted for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 03:47, 23 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

extednded protection edit

Please stop edit

Please stop adding edit request templates to talk pages as you did at Talk:Caracas. It makes no sense to add them if you aren't making any request, and it makes no sense to add them with the "answered" parameter already set to "yes". In addition, if you want to discuss something on a talk page, you can just add the discussion directly, with a heading, you don't need to use the template. That template is only if you have a specific request in the form "Please change X to Y". See Help:Talk pages for more information. Largoplazo (talk) 11:29, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think that it's really nonsense for me, not the thing you defined.

Why? edit

Ask us why I did?

Overlinking edit

Please note that we do not link to common understood English words, terms and countries. For instance we wouldn't link to Germany, or other well known countries. See WP:OVERLINK for more details. Canterbury Tail talk 12:40, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Maritime boundaries edit

Please note that a country's exclusive economic zone typically extends beyond its territorial sovereignty. These "maritime boundaries" you keep adding to articles are, at most, boundaries between the countries' respective EEZs, areas of international waters within which they are granted special privileges, not between the countries themselves. Spain and Italy, for example, do not border Algeria. Per International waters#territorial sea claim, Spain and Algeria claim territorial waters only 12 nautical miles out, and Italy only 13. See the first map at this page. Largoplazo (talk) 19:56, 20 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

False information edit

I'm afraid you're now going behind overlinking and misunderstanding national boundaries, and you've ventured into the terrain of supplying information that's plain false. The article on Bangladesh already correctly stated the nature of the gap between Bangladesh and its near neighbors Nepal, Bhutan, and China. Your changes were incorrect. Also, you added "mountainous" to the description of Turkmenistan. but the elevation of the vast majority of the country is under 400 meters.

I think you're genuinely trying to contribute to Wikipedia, but in order to do so productively, you need to be sure you make only relevant changes that are correct and helpful in the context in which you're making them. If you have any questions about this, please respond below. (See Help:Talk pages for guidance on talk page communication.) Largoplazo (talk) 21:51, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

December 2021 edit

Please stop making test edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Mogadishu. It is considered vandalism, which, under Wikipedia policy, can lead to being blocked from editing. If you would like to experiment again, please use your sandbox. Your similar edits also damaged Phnom Penh and Bangkok. Largoplazo (talk) 12:51, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Israel talk page edit

You were already asked once here, to "Please stop adding edit request templates to talk pages as you did at Talk:Caracas. Article talk pages edit

Exist solely for the purpose of discussing the article. Not the subject of the article and certainly not comments about what you are doing. Please stop. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 16:19, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Protection edit

Please do not erroneously add protection icons to a page as you did on Irish people. Adding the icon does not protect the page, and you account does not have the access to be able to protect a page. So please do not add such things as you're only creating work for others to remove it again. Canterbury Tail talk 13:18, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Same goes for your changing the protection template on North Korea, which did not seem to be a correction. --Lord Belbury (talk) 13:33, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking and disruption edit

Again I must ask you to please stop WP:OVERLINKing articles. The constant overlinking, the altering of what countries border other countries (of which a good portion are reverted), the edit requests and your messing around with protection templates are starting to verge on disruptive editing. Canterbury Tail talk 13:32, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer - Tanner the Lion - production logo (1934-1953).png edit

Thank you for uploading File:Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer - Tanner the Lion - production logo (1934-1953).png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 09:20, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay edit

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
