Shomrim

I am new to Wikipedia and don't understand why my edits to Shomrim are taken down. please undo my edit and take off the inapropriate content because im not sure what that is. Thank you so much. JoelBuchbinder (talk) 01:43, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

I took down your edits because the majority of the edit seemed to read in a non-neutral pattern. You may wish to read up on the neutral point of view, which I jut linked to. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:49, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

removing edits concerning air crash investigations and qualifying them as third class spam

Someone (AndyTheGrump) is accusing me of putting information about aircraft investigations as third class spam mail on wikipedia. This is outrageous and completely ridiculous. I am an aviation specialist, I was general manager of large airports (among others Schiphol-Amsterdam), a professor in economics (graduated Erasmus University Rotterdam, 1973))and a consultant for many governments world wide (a.o. Netherlands, Indonesia, Chad, Philippines) on issues regarding aviation. I am a registered transport consultant at the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.I can proof that on every account. The problem with aviation accidents is that every country makes it own report of the accident, many are not in English, not all use metric systems. Many reports are not easy to obtain, or simply (against all international rules) not available. This is very frustrating for people working in this field. Everybody likes to avoid the mistakes others made. Not everybody is American, there are also Asians, Africans, Russians, etc. who are entitled to the same knowledge as you and me. For this reason we publish for many years these reports all in the same style and the same format and all in English. This makes comparison easy. Aviation security and safety is not a joke. Because we are talking over small series and the information has to be available for many years we found the solution in publishing them as print in demand by lulu.com. I do not see what is wrong with this. Publishing via a normal publisher means that the series are too large, the books become too expensive (especially for third world countries) and after a certain time the publication is no more available. You should appreciate what we do instead of insulting us. You think we make any money out of this? Think about translation costs, not everybody works for free. This way you do not help wikipedia, but you are a stumble block. You are probably some kind of Johnny the Selfkicker.

@AndyTheGrump and Orientaldecorations: Regarding the above, what you did across a number of articles was a promotional activity. Plainly, that's spamming.--Jetstreamer Talk 14:28, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I think you don't get it. Since when is literature referring to a specific subject spam or promotion? That is plain nonsense. If that is your simplistic idea you should leave all references and all notes out, mind you they can all be fake!! I doubt you have an academic education otherwise you would know that.If there is a plane crash those concerned need to know what is done about it. In many cases similar problems cause similar accidents. All our books give nothing else then the original text of the official investigation report in English and in the same format, for comparison purposes, we do not add something, neither do we leave anything out. How do you think someone from Nairobi or from Irkuts or Ouagadougou can get hold of a copy of a Russian or Indian or Mongolian investigation report? There is no Russian or some official from Sierra Leona that will ever send you that. Our books go back to 1980, you have no idea how primitive those old reports are. The books are copy-righted to a Dutch public foundation by the name Sagip Kabayan, registered at the Chamber of Commerce in 's Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, under number : 17282016. You can check that out.
Dr. Dirk J. Barreveld, Netherlands
(Orientaldecorations (talk) 14:57, 29 September 2014 (UTC)).
If the material in the books consists only of "nothing else then the original text of the official investigation report", any claim to hold the copyright to it is clearly invalid. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:01, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of "The Lady in Scarlet"

Thank you for the notification. I do intend that the page "The Lady in Scarlet" be deleted. A more appropriate name is "The Lady in Scarlet (1935 film)", by which it's known on YouTube and elsewhere and found in Google searches (no searches resulted in the former name being found). I created the latter page just before your notification and transferred the contents of the earlier page to it. Akld guy (talk) 21:34, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Deleted article

Hi,

my article on Kim André Arnesen was deleted, and I wonder what the reasons are, and if the article lacked anything to keep it on Wikipedia.

--Pullmeover (talk) 23:13, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

The article was deleted because you didn't state why the person was important. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:19, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
OK, the person is one of Norway´s talented music composers with publications also in the US, and has a release on the several times Grammy-nominated record label 2L. You mind if a make the article again? --Pullmeover (talk) 02:18, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
You don't "inherit" notability--all because the record label is notable doesn't mean the artist is. It's probably not a good idea to make the article again. I dream of horses (T) @ 02:21, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello! Leaving a message/question about an addition I made to a page

Hello! I added the information about Grayson McCouch, his part in Gotham. How on Wiki would I have done that to link to Gotham and the font/color change? Is there also a way that I could change my user name? What is good to view for Wiki info? Paula Benedetto (talk) 00:48, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

You can link something with two brackets (like [[this]]), and it'll change the color, but not the font.

It appears that the page is frozen to edit by a bot to the point where any edit (regardless of relevance) is removed automatically. Please allow for the edit to be made regarding the team being regarded as one of the greatest of all time. I'd argue this is constructive information, as it provides an understanding as to the skill level in a concise point. They are regarded by many to this extent, and that is indeed a fact. Follow Up On 1995 Huskers Page

Forgive me for the assumption, but it seemed strange that the additions were removed literally less than one minute from being added. The characteristics of your message notification also lead me to that assumption strongly.

It seems that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what a fact denotes. If a large group of individuals state "A", then the fact is that they stated "A". This has no bearing on whether or not "A" is (in fact) true or false. Therefore, declaring that on a Wikipedia page clearly involves a fact, and it does not warrant removal. If you felt that it could have been more clear of the fact that this is a declaration that people state, then you could have modified it accordingly rather than falsely accusing me of page vandalism. That's a gross misuse of authority over a Wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.61.117.3 (talk) 04:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

76.160.180.127 (talk) 05:06, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Hello "I dream of horses"

I've just noticed that you deleted my comment on "World News". I have a question for you, would you trust a news network that is partial? I do believe that this network is no long impartial, and is no longer in the era of Peter Jennings, who used to report IMPORTANT events, whether he liked the policy surrounding it or not, he was indeed a Reporter. Just think about it for a minute or so, "reporters" have chosen the path to report, not the one to be "pleasers to the general public or government". Personally, I believe it is important. After all it is called "World News", and if you may take some time please note that at least a third of the time is dedicated to commercials, a sixth of the time is dedicated to "world news" (except if something \really bad happens abroad), 7 percent is dedicated to gossip, and then we get at least another 7 percent of the time dedicated to the squirrel/bear/panda/kangaroo/infant being born.... you know what I mean!

At the end of the day, news shall be news, independant and sharp. Therefore, and since Wikipedia is an impartial website, I am asking you to do the rght thing, which is to leave my comment.

PS: 1st time commentng, not sure about the IP thing, but still Upon checkingmy post, why are there 2 references below my post, one is about a ".org", the other one is about harassment? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.160.180.127 (talk) 05:22, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

As for your first question, okay, you might think the network is partial, but others might think differently. That's because you're stating an opinion, and not a fact.

We're new to the Wikipedia and I was just creating a page for our site and you've already marked it up for deletion. Why is that? That sites sells NOTHING, it's a NOT FOR PROFIT organization that serves all tennis facilities, tennis manufacturers, and tennis players as a resource. It's mind blowing that you would mark it as up for deletion without even checking the site. That is a INFORMATION site, not selling anything or promoting anything. I see many other online tennis provider companies here and they are actually taking money for their services. PlayTennisTIA (talk) 16:54, 2 October 2014 (UTC)PlayTennisTIA

Publius Enigma

Hi, I have been following the Publius Enigma since 1994 in alt.music.pink-floyd as I am a regular visitor and poster there. Unless you are a historian on the subject, please do not undo my edits. The Publius Enigma has been long exposed as a hoax. Today it continues to attract mentally unstable people, and for this reason it's unethical to propagate false hope regarding it's existence. Certain mentally unwell people do not have the insight to accept this fact. Please do not make out the puzzle to be a mystery thereby attracting the hoax to more mentally unstable people. It was a hoax from the beginning and remains a hoax. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.78.42.30 (talk) 07:32, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

If it's actually a hoax, please use a reliable source. --I dream of horses (T) @ 07:34, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
That is illogical and does not follow. It works the other way around. If the source is legitimate, the onus of references is on the person to demonstrate so. Until then, it's nothing more than a hoax. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.78.42.30 (talk) 07:38, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
The onus is on you to identify and insert a reliable reference saying that it's a hoax. I dream of horses (T) @ 07:45, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
That's ridiculous. For one, giving information on the hacker who posted it is a very stupid thing to do. Also, the Publius was a hacker and their true identity is concealed. So you want hackers to rewrite an illegitimate history? That's where your line of reasoning goes. Learn some logic before meddling in matters that you seem to have little grasp of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.78.42.30 (talk) 07:50, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

You don't need to have a "good" user page. Just talking about who you are (don't say how old you are), what you are interested in, where you plan to edit, and how fluent you are in English and other languages. --I dream of horses (T) @ 18:02, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Reply to username

I started typing the article info not realizing that the username could be separate from the topic I was submitting on. Is there a way to correct this or do I have to delete everything and start again? I will admit to being new at this and a wee bit confused. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yieldinfo (talkcontribs) 23:47, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

No, it's more like I was worried that the username represented a multi-user, company account. It looks like you've already started over, anyways. I dream of horses (T) @ 00:15, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Gabrieliad edit

The Gabrieliad article says it needs clarification. What kind of clarification does it need? The text says that Gabriel hit Satan's penis and thus drove him away. 95.220.193.9 (talk) 00:43, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

You reverted my edits. But I was trying to show, in the first instance, that the subject as not notable and after that request was not quickly responded to I tried to remove all parts which didn't meet Wikipedia guidelines. At which point I removed all because the whole article, as said originally, doesn't meet the guidelines for local politicians. 86.155.133.82 (talk) 00:56, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Dear Dream of Horses,

It has come to my attention that you are far too busy dreaming of horses to acknowledge the valid contributions I made to this fine establishments page. I am a local historian and my speciality is Goucher college. I am certain that all the information I provided is fully valid as well as intriguing. My basis for these claims is my degree in University studies for Goucher college, the information I provided can be found in my book Goucher College, the Havard of Towson Maryland. My book will be released next month and can be purchased at Barnes and Noble or wherever books are sold.

Thank you in advance for including my text in the description of the school,

Inserting praise and criticism on article

Hi! I saw that you reverted a section on EITI called "praise". I am aware that an article should not be promotional, but there is also a section on criticism, therefore I do not understand why there should not be one reporting on the positive feedback of an organisation. Thanks for your feedback. --Chberger (talk) 13:04, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

In my opinion, depending on how well-sourced the criticism section is, it should either be removed, or integrated into the rest of the article. --I dream of horses (T) @ 21:17, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Understanding advertising and promotion

As a high school communications teacher I think there are many benefits to contextual learning and I am interested in integrating this in my classroom. I have attempted to add content to the current page on contextual learning using a published source as my reference in an attempt to bring clarity to this concept. I am unclear why my addition was considered advertising or self-promotion. I would very much like to add to the current page as there is currently not much information on this subject. I would appreciate some guidance on how to revise my post to make it fit.

This is my first time posting on Wikipedia and I am grateful for your help and guidance. JwoodrowINCD (talk) 13:10, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

I am 71 years old. My doctor says I am in danger of suffering total permanent loss of the use of both of my hands and arms and that I will "have arms but they will just hang there." I am emaciated and weigh 115 pounds because and I live alone and I often can't prepare food or lift food to my mouth. Sometimes I have to empty the left and right hand drawers of my desk and put bag of ice in each drawer and my arms on them and a plastic trash can below each to catch the melt. Voice recognition software is. It's expensive and is only about 80-90 percent accurate and requires constant use of the keyboard and mouse. I live on $700 a month social security and sometimes I don't eat for the last few days of the month. It costs me excruciating pain to type, but that's the price of life for me, and I just have to pay it. Yes because I'm disabled, I'm supposed to disengage myself from life, and cease taking part in life, and crawl in a hole and die. Do you enjoy insulting an old man? I'm sick of this life and this world full of HATEFUL people like you and I'm leaving it. You are nasty hateful people, Wikipedia. I'm sorry I ever gave you any money. Nobody was trying to insult you: I think what I dream of horses Is trying to say is that you aren't forced to contribute if it hurts yourself physically and/or mentally. We aren't asking people to attempt to do what they cannot do or are pained by doing. If you still wish to contribute even with your disability, you are very welcome to do so. Also, if you start up a crowdfunding campaign to get voice software to continue to edit wikipedia, I have no doubt it will be successful. Tyzoid (talk) 22:56, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

TradeUp Capital Fund - Need Guidance

Hello, I very much want to meet your guidelines - I am not sure I understand how the TradeUp Capital Fund entry as is is any different from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CircleUp. Why is TradeUp "promotion" while CircleUp entry is information?

I'd like to make TradeUp informative - do references help? Or some discussion of academic literature behind our work? Ot broader picture of why TradeUp matters in today's world economy?

Many thanks for your kind help.

Hello, I'm Federico_76. I've posted an article about Nardi Elettrodomestici which was been deleted. I really don't see your point. It was neutral and absolutely not similar to an advertising text. I just wanted to add Nardi Elettrodomestici to this Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_of_Italy

The style of writing was as neutral as the others (SMEG - ARISTON - ALESSI...), probably less arch then the other texts. Why did you find it inappropriate? About the sources I indicated Nardi's company profile and the web site, what's the problem? I would like you tell me how I can complete this page with an other important Italian Company which has been selling and producing in Italy for more than 50 years. And there are more companies which should be posted here. Anyway please give me some advices. Thank you in advance. Federico_76Federico 76 (talk) 13:31, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

I took a look at this new article after a link was inserted in the Art Students League of New York page. Much of the text appears to be copied from the artist's own gallery website. There are some NYT article and other outside source references, and the subject appears to be notable. But there is a lot of puff-piece promotional language and other questionable stuff. I took a stab at dialing it back but it definitely could use more work, primary author appears to be a single-issue IP editor who from the comment above may not have an entirely detached perspective. Would appreciate any help you could offer. Shorn again (talk) 18:17, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

recent edits/additions/deletions

Hello--

Apologies if my recent contributions did not meet your criteria. I admit being somewhat puzzled. Links provided were to strictly non-commercial sites providing information relevant to the topic. Other approved links were to quite similar, albeit commercial sites: Anime News Network, IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, etc. I am curious as to the distinction being made. Thank you.

Hi IDoH: 'Twas I. Thanks for the tip about the skin. That should be noticeable enough even for someone as absentminded as I.
I'm curious: How is it that this event was routed to you in particular? I assume this kind of thing happens all the time here. Are you at a certain level in the WP hierarchy where you receive a certain number of events like this to oversee? Is it something you volunteered for? What were the requirements? Added more citations on J. Shimon & J. Lindemann page - thoughts?

Hi! I worked further on the citations on the J. Shimon & J. Lindemann biographical article adding more references for the content, a photo, cleaning up inconsistencies in formatting, deleting extraneous detail that I could not footnote. I also was able to link it to another article so I believe it is no longer an "orphan". I would appreciate any further guidance to resolve all issues.

Deb Debra Brehmer (talk) 23:22, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Actually, given that the article is only linked to from one other article, it's probably best to keep the orphan tag up. But I'd say it's pretty well-referenced and cleaned up now. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:25, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your help! How many articles would it need to be linked to for the "orphan" tag to be removed? Will the "need for citations" tag go away due to the references and clean up? Appreciate your help! Debra Brehmer (talk) 15:40, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Technically, you could just remove the orphan tag now, but 3-5 articles, in my opinion, is good.
And you can just remove the "unreferenced" tag yourself. I dream of horses (T) @ 01:29, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

I dream, I got your message. Are you adopted by any editor ? Thanks for your advise, but for your information, I have been a Web Content Editor myself and thus know the whole thing. I am also a Law student, and thus hate false statements. Whatever I have changed, it is removing the false statements. So, please make sure, that the false statements are not repeated time and again on a reputed website like Wikipedia. There is no use in defaming each other. It is futile.

Thanks.

Thank you for your message. This isn't the first time I edited/contributed to Wikipedia; however, the last time is quite some time ago. I think I'll manage, but I don't have much time, I generally just edit glaring mistakes or plain errors or broken links about my congregation (Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood, founded in Mariannhill in 1885) I can find when I have time in between. --Zrmadeleine (talk) 11:45, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm wondering--do you think our conflict of interest policies apply to you? It might if you feel as though, or otherwise motivated (financially, etc.) to portray the congregation a certain way. No worries, though, we have the {{requested edit}} template for such circumstances. In any case, it's a good thing to have an article monitored by somebody. --I dream of horses (T) @ 04:08, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

About my recent vote for *keep* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Thomas_Eric_Duncan

About my recent vote for *keep* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Thomas_Eric_Duncan which you apparently deleted for "not being constructive" . I'm baffled, first because I thought that was a page specifically to post one's opinion about that, which I did, explaining why and then because I can't imagine what would be "constructive" instead. If anything, I find not too constructive other opinions based on Mr Duncan's having been important just for *one* reason. I wonder how Lee Harvey Oswald got his own page then, instead of being merged in the "USA President Killers" one. Which means: besides the quantity of actions or events, weighting should be applied according to the importance or merit of such actions. Thanks for your time. Juan M. Fish

Hey, you may not realize it, but I notice you keep making non-constructive reverts the "My Bride is Mermaid" page. Your reverts appear to constitute vandalism and I just wanted to warn you that Administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism. I assuming it was perhaps a good faith edit or maybe you are simply unaware that fish are part of the animal kingdom?

  • Animal: 1. A sentient living organism typically capable of voluntary motion and sensation: distinguished from plants.
  • Meat: 1. The flesh of animals used as food, most often the flesh of mammals as opposed to fish or fowl. 2. The edible part of anything. 3. Anything eaten for nourishment, as in meat and drink.

While some religions allow the eating of fish when prohibiting the eating of meat, this does not change the scientific definition of meat, which is the muscle of flesh of an animal.

In the future, if you are uncertain about an edit (or fact) instead of simply making the mistake of reverting said edit, instead use the "talk page" of the article to ask about it. Thank you! 199.180.166.145 (talk) 06:08, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message :) I have 2 questions though to help me edit.

1) How do I cite a previously cited reference source when editing, without creating a new item in the bibliography?

2) What scripting language is used to edit wiki pages? I mean the conventions of formatting the text with symbols, are they HTML?

Thanks :)

  1. You give the reference a "name" the first time, and just use the "name" when you use the reference again. More information can be found here.
  2. The language we use is called "MediaWiki". I dream of horses (T) @ 05:26, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Your recent removal of my contribution to "List of Placeholder Names"

Hi there,

I think you made a mistake in judging my contribution as not constructive. These usages of words like "Harish Chandra" (which can be better quoted as King Harish Chandra), and "Hatim Tai" have been a part of local language in the heartland of Hindi-speaking geography. So, you might want to allow those changes.

Schools of Buddhism

Hello "I dream of horses",

Buddhism do not have sects, Sakyamuni Buddha taught and spread a Teaching called Buddhism, then Buddhist schools formed later to suit beings according to their level and understanding. All these Buddhist schools are like branches from the same tree; same source of Teachings, and in the case of Bon, same ideas being taught.

Wikipedia has specific rules about notability that are often not well understood--they are listed here and summarized here. I dream of horses (T) @ 01:35, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi thanks I found this: Authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals:
  • The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
  • The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique.
  • The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
  • The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.
This should be enought to list the art group I I can do to stop the decision is been took on them with out care of this rules I mean this is proving that they should stay why it been took down and how to change ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canscomic (talkcontribs) 01:51, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
That's for people, not organizations. Notability isn't contagious from people to the organizations they associate or are affiliated with. I dream of horses (T) @ 00:18, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

I noticed that you left a welcome message on the talk page of User:NCAA 22 (take a look at the user page) and I think you might have done that for others in the series. If you notice them again with the NCAA or UAAP name, and they have created a user page that has to do with basketball, mainly in the Philippines, can you report them as sockpuppets. Thanks. Your welcome message to DiffuseGoose

Hello I dream of horses. Thank you for your welcome message, and for your offer to answer questions.

I do research unrelated to wikipedia that has me reading through old newspapers (usually google news archives). I often come across interesting articles unrelated to what I am looking for, and then get sidetracked as I head to wikipedia to see what other info I can find. I recently decided I should take the opportunity to add those references to the relevant articles.

Today I came across a reference that I'm not sure how to (or whether to) incorporate into the wikipedia page. The reference is a 1969 article about Woody Hayes (the football coach) discussing the My Lai massacre at a sports banquet, saying something along the lines that all those men, woman and children deserved to die. That's stronger than the actual statement, here's the link (the quote is at the bottom of the second column): http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19691212&id=Es4bAAAAIBAJ&sjid=fVAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=7306,5888738

I looked for information about that on Hayes' page and see no mention of it. It would seem to naturally belong in the controversies section, with text drawing a connection to his interest in military history (which also seems only lightly covered) and pro-war beliefs. But, I can't really say his statements were considered controversial at the time he made them. According to the writer, the audience approved.

Would it be appropriate to add a short paragraph with that reference? Or not? (I'm not trying to sling mud) If it's not appropriate, what specifically is the reason? It certainly isn't relevant to his primary career. But he did have a secondary career as a military historian.

Trying to get a feel for what's proper. Thanks in advance for any guidance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DiffuseGoose (talkcontribs) 00:56, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

It's actually better to integrate controversy section within the rest of the article. However, keeping it there as a sign of an article that's "in progress" is sort of okay. If you are uncertain about adding the paragraph, maybe you can ask on the talk page of the article. I dream of horses (T) @ 01:33, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I will add it to the article's talk page. I didn;t realize there was such a thing.DiffuseGoose (talk) 02:23, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Glad to have helped! I dream of horses (T) @ 02:55, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

National Report is NOT satire.

You need to look up the definition of satire. National Report is not satire. It is hoax site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahseehoward (talkcontribs) 04:34, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Since that's a negative bit of information about a company, you'll probably need a reliable source to back that up. --I dream of horses (T) @ 04:38, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
Whether the term "hoax" is "negative" is irrelevant. It is simply truth. Calling it "satire" is flatly incorrect information about the site. Have you actually researched National Report? How about a reliable source that justifies use of the term satire with respect to National Report? You won't be able to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahseehoward (talkcontribs) 04:44, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
@Sarahseehoward: They're in the lead. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 05:00, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
No, the sources are not in the lead. If you actually read the sources, you find that they tend to clarify that National Report is indeed NOT satire. Just because Facebook uses a satire tag on something, doesn't make the use of the term correct. If someone builds a fake UFO and floats it up with the expectation that people will believe it's an alien ship, that is NOT "satire." It's a hoax. Anyone who insists on using the term "satire" over "hoax" with respect to National Report understands the definition of neither. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahseehoward (talkcontribs) 06:04, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
From Wikipedia: A hoax is a deliberately fabricated falsehood made to masquerade as truth.[1] That is EXACTLY what National Report does. There is no satirical element to its content whatsoever. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahseehoward (talkcontribs) 06:12, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

@EvergreenFir:, what do you think of all this? I dream of horses (T) @ 07:46, 21 October 2014 (UTC) (fixed {{re}} at 07:47, 21 October 2014 (UTC))

That it's OR. I added another source to the lead and moved the citations to after the word "satire". All of them use "satire" in references to National Report. I agree it's shitty satire and more toward the hoax side, but we need to follow RS. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 01:34, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
You agree that it is shitty satire, I think, because you realize it is not satire at all. Why can we not at least agree that it is "fiction?" If you read the sources, you will see that none of them actual conclusively refer to it as satire. They are two opinion columns, one of which puts "satire" in quotes with the clear implication that it is not. And there is a report of Facebook's use of a "satire tag" which could kill the "hoax" industry on the Internet. It seems as if nobody who is insisting these are sources are actually reading the content of those sources. Facebook's operational tag is not the determination of a definition. If Facebook tagged photos of zebras with "elephant" would we claim Facebook as a source that all zebras are, in fact, elephants? One reference is simply to National Report's own legal disclaimer claiming "satire." National Report doesn't get to decide what they are in Wiki article. Talk about not being NPOV! Come on guys. How "shitty" does satire have to be before it's not literary satire? I mean, is it not enough that it fails to objectively meet ANY criteria of satire? Was the balloon boy who was supposedly flying through the air in a mylar flying saucer satire? No, it was a hoax. Photos of a pie plate strung between two poles to look like a ufo satire? No. Hoax. And if hoax is too strong a word for you, how about the nice objective, "fictional stories written to appear as if they are real news stories?"

Sarahseehoward (talk) 16:45, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

It appears that the consensus is that the news site is satire according to reliable sources. I dream of horses (T) @ 21:36, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
I dream of horses is correct. It doesn't matter what we think/know. It only matters what sources say. Perhaps WP:TRUTH is a useful essay here. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 00:13, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps one day, one of you will actually read the sources and come to understand that they do not refer to the site as satire. And that there are far more sources labeling its stories as hoaxes. Never let facts get in the way of a good opinion, I suppose. — Preceding :unsigned comment added by Sarahseehoward (talk • :contribs) 00:42, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Glocal Khabar speedy deletion

Hello! Few minutes earlier, I copied exact contents from my site( www.glocalkhabar.com/about-us) but it was tagged as a copyright content. Being the owner of website, don't I have right to copy my own content? I have also mentioned the website name about which description was made. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diwaspoudel (talkcontribs) 03:46, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

There are two reasons why Wikipedia can't accept your copyrighted material:
  1. Wikipedia almost never accepts fully copyrighted information, except under incredibly limited circumstances.
  2. We can't be 100% sure you are whom you say you are.
On top of that, there's a chance that your website doesn't qualify for an article, anyways. I'll list a few pages that you'll want to look at.

Regarding https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImageShack#Hack_by_Anti-Sec

The information is if not all perfect, I am x2Fusion, prior Leader of TheDefaced Security Team. The ImageShack breach was solely down to my stupidity for allowing and trusting a member of our own (situated in Arabic Land) to claim what rightfully belonged to myself.

I am not that fluent or clear of the working with editing over WikiPedia, However; my previous Edit now under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImageShack#Hack_by_Anti-Sec_:Revisited - Should perhaps give the needed information to once and for all sort the fixaction of "Anti-Sec" being the apparent reason for the Mid-2009 ImageShack security Breach.

Checking the userpage of new users

Hello, my friend. Please consider a quick userpage check just in case a spamuser report would be better than a welcome. Many thanks, and all the best. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:45, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

I must have either been going to quickly (possible, but hey, a welcome template isn't going to prevent a competent admin from blocking if neccesary), or you must have higher standards for what goes on a userpage (also possible, but slightly less so--however, see last parenthesis). Generally, if there's a chance that the userpage might be serving as a resume, I treat that as good faith. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:23, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
Good points taken. I too try to be quite forgiving when basic information gets a bit expansive. I see a lot of speedy tagging these days where the new user was really just adding a bit too much, but not going overboard. Cheers. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:53, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

You recently changed my edit on the "sendgrid" company's wikipedia page. I believe any reasonable person can agree that an unsolicited marketing email, whether the customer has a relationship with the company or not, is spam! The page as it stands is a veiled homage to a business, written in esoteric, corporate language that covers up how it is an entity that is dedicated to spam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikkiWikkiTavi (talkcontribs) 04:12, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your welcome

Hi I dream of horses, thanks indeed for your nice welcome. In fact I mostly edit from an account and I sometimes edit as IP when I write about a topic on which I am less expert or which is not my main core of interest. Thanks for the message

Hi. I'm sorry to have put you to the trouble of sending me a welcome message. I'm already registered under a handle of four years' standing, but if I had to log in and type my masochistically strong password when I'm just browsing and see some minor problem that needs a fix, most of the time I wouldn't bother. Less pardonably, and with increasing frequency, I also edit as an IP on lowbrow pop-culture topics off my usual more scholarly and dignified beaten path, lest they make eyebrow-raising reading in my edit history. But sometimes I simply get drawn into more extensive and prolonged work on some article than I had intended, and then I persist in editing anonymously mainly out of concern that there will be an appearance of sockpuppetry if I edit it both as an IP and, after logging in, under my one and only username. Maybe it's time to start a second account devoted to the "pop" stuff. Ahhh, the complications of life in Wikipedialand... 66.81.221.63 (talk) 06:58, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Where you at horses?

Hey horses, where you at ? I left you a message and you just up and disappeared. My last message to you went something like ...
"hey horses, I want to take back what I said in my last post. "Rude," I hate being the dumbest person in the room but... Rude is completely wrong: when one editor can remove the edit of another without even saying they have: it is AN ABUSE OF POWER. This just shows us how wiki has gotten away from its roots. Wiki recognizes at heart that all knowledge is evolving, changing. Whatever we now know is different, more complete than in the past, and in the future we will know more [completely] than we know now. This is true across all fields of knowledge. Wiki is the only way to meet the constant, changing nature of knowledge. If we allow wiki to be abused by those running it, what hope does it have? All a senior editor needs do when removing someone else's edit is inform them (transparency) and at the very least give them a reason (hopefully a reasonable reason) for doing so. What do you think? all the best, aurum I hope that helps you understand a bit more where I am coming from rock. Catch ya later, aurum"
Also, I ran into trouble trying to re-find you seems like you are also Megan/Sunshine megan/sunshine. What is up with that? Anyway, let me know - aurum Aurumdog (talk) 19:10, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm not Meghan. I merely use a sunshine template on my talk page that she created.
While it would be nice for a "senior" editor to explain their edits to you, it could be that s/he expected you to read his/her edit summary, something a newer editor might not do. Is it newbie-friendly to expect that? Not really. Is it disallowed? No. And no one really "runs" Wikipedia, except for the Wikimedia Foundation, who doesn't really participate in disputes. Hello, it's AirportExpert. Please let that page be removed, as it is old and filled with unnecessary and dated information. Also, it is in embarrassment to me AirportExpert to be associated with sock puppets. I will not do that anymore, but please let that page go. Please respond to me soon, and thank you.--AirportExpert (talk) 22:56, 28 October 2014 (UTC)AirportExpert

Not sure when we've interacted, to be honest. --I dream of horses (T) @ 02:26, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome

Hi there, I dream of horses. I know it's just the right thing to do but thanks for the welcome. I look forward to being a part of this community...I bet that sounded really dumb didn't it? Karina Biashine (talk) 01:53, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

No, not dumb at all. And you're welcome. :-) --I dream of horses (T) @ 02:28, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome

Hi, I dream of horses! I thank you for wishing me the welcome! I currently have a Wikipedia account under the name : "Paul tk" but I'm very lazy to log in every time I want to modify a page or an article because I'm a really volunteer Wikipedia contributor as you must expect it. I'm really sorry but I haven't gotten to understand how to use the Talkback template and what are his purposes. 82.244.254.157 (talk) 08:16, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

{{Talkback}} is a template that tells someone that you left them a message. You just insert your username and put it on their talk page. --I dream of horses (T) @ 08:22, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for your explanation. I finally got to understand it! 82.244.254.157 (talk) 08:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
No problem! I dream of horses (T) @ 09:00, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Flyingbolt

I really find it difficult to work out the 'talk' part of Wikipedia and am hoping I am conversing with Swale7 regarding his edits to the Flyingbolt article. I contributed the majority of the information but am still trying to learn what is required as regards how to write it the way Wikipedia wants. Thank you for those edits because it has helped me understand what way it needs to be written as I probably got carried away with some of my own opinions. Now that it is properly edited I wonder would it be possible to remove the issues at the top of the page regarding 'weasel words' and 'biased or unverifiable information.' I am an avid horse racing fan with access to a lot of information and would like to write more articles on horses (I also wrote the article on 'Noblesse (horse)' but am only learning how it needs to be written. Thank you for your time and please send me a message just so as I know that you actually read this.

Regards,

shalakhani.

To get to the talk page of an article, just add Talk: to the front of the title. So the talk page of Flyingbolt is Talk:Flyingbolt. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:33, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Regarding user talk page : User talk:109.204.47.100

I checked this userpage and found out that a comment was made by you in ip talk page. See this edit. But when I checked the userpage history, I found out that the ip did it. As it could mislead anyone browsing the ip user page, I removed it with this edit. Physicsmathftw (talk) 15:42, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

re: making updates while not logged in.

Sorry I tend not to notice when I've been logged out. I'll try harder to notice it in the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ichigo341578926 (talkcontribs) 10:22, October 29, 2014

Maybe change the skin you see when you're logged in under preferences. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:37, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Take a Look at This Page

Mind taking a look at Nelson Wolff? I added an infobox and intend on adding some more information but it could use some cleaning up and I can't really tell where. Thanks. Casseb (talk) 01:40, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

You know what? I have no idea, either. But yeah, that article at least needs to be expanded. --I dream of horses (T) @ 01:45, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

ButN page deletion

It was part of a study to look at who is coming up to compete the supremacy of LinkedIn. Found out about this company and hence wrote about it on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adsyvb (talkcontribs) 06:38, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Can you please upload my profile on Sue McLennan?

Hello, I won't be at the uni tomorrow for the wikibomb so I was wondering if it was possible for me to email you my profile of Sue McLennan for uploading? Many thanks, Charmaine (charmaine.tam@sydney.edu.au)CharmaiT (talk) 07:43, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Well, I don't really focus on article creation. Any reason why it has to be done quickly? --I dream of horses (T) @ 14:49, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Why? --I dream of horses (T) @ 15:21, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Madison Bumgarner

I'm not sure why my change would be considered "not constructive". The fact was mentioned several times on ESPN SportsCenter this morning, and is meant to show what type of personality Madison has, as well as his lifestyle. It is no more or less "constructive" than the comment that he wore jeans to his wedding which is in there still. The gift of a cow, which you have to admit is quite unusual and thus perhaps interesting when put in context of sports stars, was apparently interesting to the NYT as well since it was included in their article on his lifestyle which I cited.

I swear, every time I update Wikipedia, someone removes my legitimate changes, and I have to argue with them regarding whether it is correct or constructive or whatever. Perhaps I should leave this to the "experts" here to take care of, as my Ph.D. does not qualify me to discern what is relevant and what is not.

Sorry for the rant, but this really does happen every singe time I edit anything on this site. It seems not worth the trouble to put something in, then have to justify something (that was properly cited and verified as accurate) because someone else does not think they would have put it on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassetlover (talkcontribs) 15:25, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

So the title really is "OMG, you are so much more than awesome"? --I dream of horses (T) @ 15:29, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Did you even bother to look at the link I placed on the page? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/31/sports/baseball/world-series-2014-madison-bumgarner-sf-giants-ace-is-product-of-north-carolina-and-proud-father.html?_r=0
Click on that and see what the title is for yourself. The full title is "‘OMG. You’re So Much More Than Awesome’ A Visit to a Proud Father's Home in Madison Bumgarner Country" but I deemed that a bit long and only specified the first part.
If the title of the article is really why you removed the update, it is even worse than simply judging the content as being "non constructive", since one click on the link would have answered that question. Sheesh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassetlover (talkcontribs) 15:36, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Actually, I was using assisted editing software where I couldn't click on the link. My apologies. I dream of horses (T) @ 15:53, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Edits to Adiabatic Flame Temperature

Hello, I'm the one who edited the article Adiabiatic Flame Temperature. You reverted my edit because it seemed unproductive to you. This contradicts Wikipedia guidelines:

Don't revert an edit because it is unnecessary — because it does not improve the article. For a reversion to be appropriate, the reverted edit must actually make the article worse. Wikipedia does not have a bias toward the status quo (except in cases of fully developed disputes, while they are being resolved). In fact, Wikipedia has a bias toward change, as a means of maximizing quality by maximizing participation. Even if you find an article was slightly better before an edit, in an area where opinions could differ, you should not revert that edit, especially if you are the author of the prior text.

So, I changed my edit back, and made a new one that (I hope) marginally improves the wording of the article. If this bothers you, please leave a note on my talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:c:4d40:34:9876:db58:8355:a817 (talk) 6:00, October 30, 2014

I now realize that reverting your edit may not have been a good idea. My apologies.I dream of horses (T) @ 21:07, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
