Very strange English - correctly quoted?

In your edit of 00:07, 12 May 2019 to Casablanca Conference you have a very strange phrase.

he had stated on 7 January that Allied morale would be accepted by the uncompromising demand

I can't make heads or tails of it. Even 'acceptable' doesn't really fit. Could you go back to your sources and try to figure out what Marshall actually said? As it is, he sounds a stranger to English, even if American. Shenme (talk) 01:54, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

I presume I meant to say affected (which makes sense?) but will check in a bio of Marshall. Hugo999 (talk) 03:50, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Future elections in Mexico

A tag has been placed on Category:Future elections in Mexico requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Category:Religious buildings and structures completed in 681

I’m trying to get my head round this category, which you’ve added to Gloucester Cathedral. While the Cathedral may have been established then, the foundation stone of the building you see today wasn’t laid until 1089, four hundred years later, and much was built hundreds of years after that. As such, to put it in a category of completed in 681 seems very odd to me. Looking at the four buildings in the category, I’m doubtedful any could be described as being completed in 681, with the possible exception of Selsey Abbey. What am I misunderstanding? Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 14:42, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

The Gloucester Cathedral article previously said "rebuilt 1058" and "established 681" so I replaced the "established 681" with "Religious buildings and structures completed in 681" which is a subcategory of "established 681". I don’t think that "rebuilt 1058" makes it a 11th-century church? Many larger churches or cathedrals were rebuilt two or three times; Notre Dame de Paris was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century (after demolition and rebuilding was considered according to the article) but is still a medieval church. Hugo999 (talk) 20:09, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I have to disagree. “Completed in 681” suggests the building was complete/finished/done and dusted by that date. There is literally not a stone of Gloucester Cathedral that was complete by 681. The current building dates from hundreds of years later and it is misleading to readers to suggest that the building was complete by 681. I am going to revert and would suggest that you start a discussion on the article Talkpage if you want to pursue it. KJP1 (talk) 22:11, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
I have also removed the other two sites that were, quite plainly, not complete by 681. I shall now research Selsey Abbey, the only one remaining in the category. There is a gulf between a building being founded at date X, and being complete by that date. I seriously doubt there is one building in the entire world that could categorically be described as being completed in the year 681, a period when historical records were pretty scanty. KJP1 (talk) 22:35, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Have added re date/dates to the article talk page. We don’t know what happened in 681 and 1158 and it is possible that the cathedral was completed (i.e. functioning as a church with regular services held in it) in 681, with alterations/rebuilding done/completed in 1158 (and according to the infobox 1499). And do we know if the later alterations involved demolishing an earlier church or just adding a section onto an existing building? While Notre Dame de Paris will presumably reopen after alterations and repairs in 2021 or 2022 (?) it is categorised as a 12th century and 14th century (medieval) Roman Catholic church building. A number of churches seem to have two completion dates. Hugo999 (talk) 01:14, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Category:Grade I listed pubs in the City of London

Hello, Hugo999,

I know that you would prefer not to receive notices about CSD C1 category taggings (although I sometimes miss unchecking "Notify page creator"), but I thought I'd tell you about this empty category because other categories in Category:Listed pubs in the City of London have not been emptied so I thought this might have been emptied out-of-process. When this happens, it's very difficult for the category tagger to know what pages have been removed from the category so I'm hoping you could check it out and make sure nothing is amiss. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 17:31, 19 February 2021 (UTC) Well none of the "Pubs in the City of London" category are Grade I Listed, so you better delete it. Thanks. Hugo999 (talk) 01:51, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

RE 1962 Northern Ireland general election you reverted my edit a minute after I created the link to events in the United Kingdom by month, which is a pain as I am creating the new links in batches for a year. PS: Who is this William; can I complain to him? Hugo999 (talk) 02:14, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Years in X football categories

Hi there! I noticed that you are creating multiple categories for YYYY in X-country's football categories. You're doing a great job, but I'm pretty sure that for the Soviet Union countries before their independence (such as Moldova or Azerbaijan) the seasons should be just a single year (1990 or 1991, etc) and not a double year like 1990–91, because all Soviet clubs followed spring→fall type of season. It just makes more sense this way. What do you think? --BlameRuiner (talk) 12:52, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Yes, true for those football clubs while they were Soviet clubs but if you look forward to 1993 or 1994 for Moldova or Azerbaijan those two countries (clubs) have adopted the double year system e.g. 1993–94. See Category:Seasons in Azerbaijani football or Category:Seasons in Moldovan football. Hugo999 (talk) 13:09, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Yes, I totally agree on post-independence seasons. My only concern was for pre-1992 seasons. The later seasons categories should correspond to the domestic league schedule. There's nothing wrong with changing the pattern, see for example Ireland, Georgia, Denmark, Sweden - some of the countries that switched between summer and winter format over the years. --BlameRuiner (talk) 13:48, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
