Currencies introduced

Hi Hugo999

I see you have been busy creating lots of "Currency introduced" categories.

At Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 February 18#Currencies_introduced, I have proposed renaming them to "Currencies introduced". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:35, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Air raids on Japan

Hi, Could you please add the bibliographic details of Ehrman 1956 to Air raids on Japan#Air raids on Japan? It's not there at present, so it's not clear what the book is. Thanks, Nick-D (talk) 09:28, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Antarctica New Zealand

Hi, just thought I would let you know some anon editor(s) have been removing some of the content you added to Antarctica New Zealand calling it libellous activities on my talk page. I haven't had a chance to check yet due to work but I assume they are just trying to redact info they don't like rather than any actual real issue. Anyway, just a heads-up. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 14:49, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks re that, now re-reverted? Hugo999 (talk) 21:46, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

  • Hey, yes Schwede66 reverted when they warned them. Hopefully enough to see them go away. I'll keep it on my watch list for a while as well. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 23:41, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

to clarify

Re my reverted message - there is nothing to indicate the 2005/2006 bushfires in australia specifically eventuated in murder charges being laid, so have cleared the bushfire/murder categories - in case you were wondering what my original deleted message was about. Until such time that someone comes up with a reference to say so - no murders were identified. cheers. You are very hard to keep up with at the best of times JarrahTree 01:05, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

OK, nobody was charged though the fires are classed as a crime (arson). Though the lighters may have pleaded guilty to manslaugter not murder if found (a plea ofter accepted rather than risking a trial for murder?). Hugo999 (talk) 02:06, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Non-existent categories

Hi Hugo

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Category:1988 crimes in Kenya, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before a change saved.Thank you.

You have added non-existent categories to dozens of similar pages in the last few days. I have reverted most of them.

There may be a case for creating such categories, but please don't just leave them as redlinks for others to clean up. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:26, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi BHG: The additions to crimes by country require adding categories to many crimes by year and country eg for Category:1948 crimes in Egypt the categories Category:1940s crimes in Egypt, Category:1948 crimes in Africa and Category:1948 crimes in Asia. Many of the country categories pre-2010s lack these categories, and it is quicker to add these categories in a batch which involves going back and adding them. PS: Crime in South America lacked even more categories!

More non-existent categories

Hi again, Hugo

I just returned to Special:WantedCategories after a week or to doing other stuff, and found another swathe of redlinked "YYYY crimes" categories. All of them were populated by your edits, mostly from 3 or 4 days ago:

It's not fair for you to expect other editors to clean up after you, so I am simply reverting all the edits which created the redlinks.

Please can you just stop doing this? Whatever the merits of these categories (and most of them seem to fail WP:SMALLCAT), it's disruptive to consistently proceed on the assumption that other editors will create the categories. If you are going to populate these categories, please create the category pages yourself. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:48, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Non-existent categories, again again

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Category:Terrorist incidents in Egypt in 2016, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before saving a change. Thank you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:44, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

The two categories you reverted from Category:Terrorist incidents in Egypt in 2016 i.e. Category:Terrorist incidents in 2016 by country and Category:Terrorist incidents in Asia in 2016 are missing categories I have already created (and populated) and they are both the missing categories for terrorism in the 2010s decade. While equivalents had already been created for 2018 and 2019 the decade series was missing some of these categories for earlier years which I was filling in at the same time as creating the subcategory for Egypt. The "Navseasoncats" template no longer allows you to create a missing subcategory directly, but only via an article using the proposed subcategory. Hugo999 (talk) 19:45, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Heights of peaks

It's best to use the 'convert' template for this, so that the conversion from metres to feet is done automatically - e.g. {{convert|688|m|ft}} gives you: 688 metres (2,257 ft) Ross Finlayson (talk) 03:54, 26 May 2019 (UTC) Yes, though many articles have meters only (should we add feet also?) Hugo999 (talk) 04:37, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

Personally, unless I'm referring to a peak in the U.S. (just about the only country left that doesn't use the metric system), I don't feel any compulsion to add a conversion to feet. But if there's already a height in feet (as well as metres), then it's best to use the "convert" template, to avoid errors. Ross Finlayson (talk) 04:40, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

Categories

Hi, I'm wondering why you are adding aircraft categories to aircraft engine categories? Engines are clearly not aircraft. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 14:25, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Because otherwise the decade category would have no connection with aviation or transport. While transport by year has a decade category, aviation does not (just year and decades). So the options to linking "2000s aero (piston) engines" to "2000s aircraft" are to link to "2000s in transport" or to create "2000s in aviation". Hugo999 (talk) 21:30, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Their origin parent categories are aircraft and aerospace engineering. The word aircraft in the category titles should be a sufficient link to aviation. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 07:34, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Now added Category:Decades in aviation and Category:1990s in aviation etc Hugo999 (talk) 07:46, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Hugo999,
By request, I have now begun notifying creators of empty categories that they are marked for deletion. However, there are about a dozen or so editors on Wikipedia that work a lot with categories so you are more likely to get notices than less active editors. If you don't want your user talk page cluttered up with these notices, let me know. If you do like to keep tabs on categories you've created, then I will proceed in this way because that is the new default setting for me on Twinkle. Happy editing! Liz Read! As I said to contest it, the above Mexican categories include the (notable) murder of Trotsky in 1940 (resulting in a conviction for murder) which you removed from the above categories.Hugo999 (talk) 00:14, 30 July 2019 (UTC) v

Pearl Harbor advance-knowledge conspiracy theory

Greetings. There is a reference note at the end of the paragraph in which you placed 2 requests for citation. Have you read Stinnett's book. Do you have it to see if one note is sufficient for the paragraph? Regards Tapered (talk) 03:30, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

No, I do not have Stinnet’s book. The two "citation needed" I added were to Stinnet (perhaps) and to Gore Vidal (where a source is needed and if a book a page reference or else a magazine issue). Quite a few of the article references do not have page references: 8,9,10,12,14,18, 19,20,21,23,25,46,47,53,59,71,80,81,82,85,123,135. Several references do refer to a range of pages or a section, which I think is reasonable (eg Refs 115,120). Sometimes complicated by more than one edition of a book e.g. hardback and paperback, possibly with different page numbering. And I wonder which authors (cited "often") cite "Roll T-175" at the National Archives (see Forgeries). Hugo999 (talk) 01:49, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
