About Prothom Aloo
Saw a report and saw your picture. Are you in Bangladesh now? We can meet in Ekushey Book Fair. --Maksud3 17:50, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Ragib Bhai, thanks. Can I take data from Banglapedia? I would change the form. By the way, actually, I had a hope to meet you. Have sometime in my hand for next couple of months as there is no writing pressure and hope to work a lot fr5om march. Please, inform about Banglapedia.

Ragib bhai, you have told me at the meeting to take case about the reference of language movement. Now like every other year, prothom alo is publishing history of the language movement day by day from february 1. Though the evidence are not direct, like a newspaper in 1952 or a book related about it. But the source is definitely reliable. May be the history is same, but i think we could still use this source for references. In that prothom alo would increase the reliability of those informations that i already posted. What do you think?Tarif from Bangladesh 18:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, I'd love to help in any way - I've been itching to return to FA writing. Google Scholar gave me a majority of info when I was working on Zia and Mujib. You and Tarif will get more info there from those JSTOR papers as well as US Country Studies. Also, do you happen to have a pic of Zia that can be "free use" or public domain in any way? All the pics there are FU, which will be a problem if we're to get it on the mainpage. Rama's arrow 22:45, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hey - taking a brief look at the article, I see that the prose is very poor (also not NPOV) and will require substantial rewriting. Please ask Tarif to look into this - I can start the cleanup work but not unless you and Tarif give me the green light. Rama's arrow 22:59, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Ragib - there is one issue regarding Language Movement and other Bengali-topic articles. What is the official, conventional term for the Bengali language - Bengali or Bangla? While the dual terms will be explained, we obviously can't use both interchangeably. Either it is Bengali or Bangla all the way, and I suspect "Bangla" to be the Bengali term, not English term for the language. What is your opinion? Rama's arrow 01:13, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Incorrect move of BIRDEM
Dear Ragib, you are absolutely right. I didn't know about the possibility of moving pages. Is there anything I should fix? I could revert my changes and then do the moving of the page if you did not do it already. Thanks. Miguel Andrade 15:54, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Ragib
Thanks Ragib; thanks for the guideline & advice. I'll read it and work accordingly. You are doing excellent work, (I am aware of your activities re Wikipedia) and I am proud to know you. --Pinaki ghosh 10:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your guidence, but I don't remember which topic I copied from Banglapedia, if you kindly put the names on my talk page then I'll be able make the changes.

Notability
Hi Ragib vai, I created a page named Lou Schuler. Though I read Wikipedia:Notability (people), but a bit disordered about its (Lou Schuler) notability. Lou Schuler is an award-winning (National Magazine Award in 2004) fitness journalist. Please take a look on it. In future, is it likely to be deleted? Your valuable suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you NAHID 13:51, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ragib bhai, I've noticed some of the images/logos are uploaded wtihout any license tag. And I was thinking to add proper license with fair use rational on those images (e.g. Image:UODA.jpg). Am I doing right or just leave them for deletion and wait for its uploader. NAHID 11:32, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Language movement and other important topics
Ragib, there's a lot of history that should be covered in greater detail at History of Bangladesh. My suggestion is to move the common Bengal history to History of Bengal, and make History of Bangladesh a comprehensive account of the 20th century history of the region -- somewhat like History of the Republic of India. I am sure a good article focussed on the history of the country will itself be 50 kb, but its current large size (mostly due to ancient and medieval history) acts as a psychological deterrent for anyone wanting to expand on the modern history. Let me know what you think about it. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 21:29, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Shivaji's general Tanaji Malusare used Shivaji’s famous pet monitor lizard or ghorpad named "Yeshwanti" with a rope tied around its waist for climbing the walls of the Sinhagad fort from it’s steepest and the least guarded side in the dead of a moonless night during the Battle of Sinhagad.
This is a historical fact, it is taught in all history books in India.
I have spent al lot of houures for you to try and find link, I dont know to type you do the rest.
Search Google for - Ghorpad Tanaji

- Let's look at why these references are NOT all useful. The first one is from a Music site!! The second one is from indbazaar.com. None of these sources are valid or even scholarly historical sources. Please look into reliable sources policy for citations. Any one can open a website and claim amazing things, and that doesn't automatically become true. This is an encyclopedia, and hence needs to have information verifiable from reliable sources. Unfortunately, none of the above count as such. Thank you. --Ragib 23:01, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
I noticed User:Ragib started editing the the bengal monitor page by distorting the historical anecdote of Maratha over Mugal victory first. Strange. Made it into a "persistant myth" from fact, now he wants a reference for each sentence otherwise he threatened to take the pagragraph out.
Atulsnischal 00:38, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Replied in Talk:Bengal monitor, and your talk page. But frankly, you need to look at some of Wikipedia's basic policies like [[WP:V|verifiability] and no original research. --Ragib 00:55, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have responded in Talk:Bengal monitor too. Thanks. Shyamal 02:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Picture Added
Ragib bhai, I have added two pictures about language movement. One of them is Image:Jinnah in Dhaka.JPG, is the photo of Muhammad Ali Jinnah at the Race Cource Maidan when he said, Urdu shall be the only state language... and the other one Image:Meeting at Amtala on Ekushey.JPG is the historic gathering at Amtala of Dhaka University on February 21, 1952. Both of the picture is taken under Pakistan Copyright Act, but I couldn't include the fact on it. Please add the fact to them and add them to language movement if you want.Tarif from Bangladesh 11:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
NCIS episodes
- I have discovered that List of NCIS episodes links to articles about every single episode (there are many). None establish notability, none have references, all contain (at most) plot summary and quotes (plus a sprinkling of original research-type observations). I tagged a few of them before I thought there must be a better way to go about getting these AfD posted and merged or whatever. I'm not really sure. As you have been a pundit in similar areas of concern in the past I am hoping you might want to take a look at the assemblage and handle it somehow.
- Also, User talk:MatthewFenton has been removing notability and reference tags and has ordered me to "cease". I'm not sure how to handle this either.
Can you help here? -Shaundakulbara 20:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
update
(To Tarif and Ragib) I've reorganized and somewhat expanded the Language movement article. I would request you to please make sure that the data is comprehensive (that no significant detail is missing) - I think it is useful to cover the reactions and attitudes in West Pakistan - I'm also curious if the movement had any influence in West Bengal. What primarily remains to be done is copyediting and adding references/citations. Rama's arrow 00:01, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Re:Bangla WP
Hi Ragib! How are you doing? I'm a little busy with my research and courses. I'll start work once I'm a bit free. I really would like to contribute to Biotechnology and West Bengal related topics there.--Victor 01:34, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Ragib, I read your comment about Bangla Wikipedia, too. I'm very interested about Bangla Wikipedia - but for two reasons I'm not geting deeply involved - i) I don't have Bengali typing skills. ii) I somehow feel more obliged to contribute to Bangladesh related topics on English Wikipedia than translating English articles in Bangla. I agree to the cultural value of having the Bangla wikipedia - but not to undermine your work in any way, is it adding much academic/ educational value? Whoever can log into wikipedia to read bangla articles should also be able to read the english ones and understand their meaning. The opposite is not true for non-Bengalis. Do you agree? -Arman Aziz 05:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Sort of back
Hi Ragib, yes I'm kind of back (as a result of having to research a paper on WP and getting re-hooked to editing. Am currently wasting department time on it :) Yes, I've had a look at BNWP but since i use work machines to access it i haven't yet installed the thingie that lets you read the Bangla font. Also my BN typing is very slow. Promise I will try and contribute once classes end. Do you think Banglapedia is eating up some of our constituency? some of the articles are very good. nut of course it isn't a wiki.

Hi Ragib. Could you tell me where does [1] link say that the Bangladeshi militias were receiving training in India, as asserted in this section - Sheikh Mujibur Rahman#1970 elections and independence. Thanks. Zamkudi 11:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have made a lot of changes to the article. I hope you like it, because I improved it gramatically and changed a lot of sentences from active to passive voice. Also, the article read like a story, which an encyclopedia is not. Cheerio! Zamkudi 12:54, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Bengali fight
It might list 247 million total - but the ranking is by native speakers. That's what the entire link is about. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jerse (talk • contribs) 06:02, 14 February 2007 (UTC).
The point is that the ranking system is ordered by native speakers. The 2004 CIA estimate puts it as 7th. No one knows mow many people speak Bengali in the entire world. That's why it's the native speakers that count, not everyone who knows a couple of words in Bengali. Besides, the ranking should correspond to the link to it's left, no? Okay, you win. Revert it back to the wrong data - and you know it's wrong too. I am just at a loss right now because I can't make footnotes or provide sources for anything because I don't know how. Plus I'm very tired. But I'll be back to settle this later. Jerse 06:27, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Badal_gupta.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Badal_gupta.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:44, 21 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nilfanion (talk) 13:44, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I haven't got around to get my machine to show Unicode Bangla properly yet, and my technological handicap isn't helping. But, I don't know why, he's not there yet, missing out by an inch. And, please, help me, with the History of Bangladesh project, at least with advices. What do I do now? Dhakaiya- Pics. & Infos
Ragib Bhai, you can find a lot of information posted by forumer Tanzirian of skyscrapercity.com in the Dhaka history thread. Most probably the pictures are copyright but the information is public domain. Also 1 Comilla pic for you, assuring you there is no copyright, would have uploaded it myself but busy right now!

India
Because of India's rich diversity, no one image can represent all of India's one billion people. That is why I propose selecting a new demographics image every three months. This would allow for a regional balance and would show India as a whole. Many people have agreed that this is the only way to represent India's rich and varied diversity. Since you have voted for a change in the demographics section, I wanted to update you on this proposal. I would love to hear your comments on talk:India. Thanks so much. Have a great day!
Re:PINQ
Well, the question seems to be tough, otherwise some more guesses were expected by this time. Anyway, do not tell the answer. Please try to give more clues intermittently, until someone cracks it. I don't remember a single instance where the answer was plainly divulged! IMO, it's not impossible to crack :) Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:47, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
This is a WARNING, you will be reported Rajib for Systematically Vandalising the articles I woked on
+++YOUR COMMENTS ON MY Page+++++
Adding spam and irrelevant external links
Please do not add a very large number of unrelated external links to articles. See WP:NOT for what Wikipedia is NOT. If you continue adding such links, you will be reported to the administrator's noticeboard. Thank you. --Ragib 10:44, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. --Ragib 10:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
+++++MY COMMENTS++++
Dear user Rajib, please don't vandalize the articles I have worked on, instead of improving the articles you are just deleting the "reference list" for the article, this has gone on for couple of articles, you are systematically following the articles I worked on and vadalizing them, I will shortly be reporting you to wikipedia Administartors. Consider this a Warning!!!!. If you want to improve an article you dont take out its reference list. You could have contributed to Wildlife of Bangladesh, I even asked for help on your page, but the article remains at square one after so long while you have had lot of time arguing with me and vandalizing my other articles. Please do not remove this comment from your page, let other be warned too of your great credibility and coopretaion.
Atulsnischal 20:50, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
CAn somebody please talk to Ragib, one argument that started with him on Bengal monitor page has led to an ongoing onslaught on the articles I have worked on, instead of improving them, he is been removing Reference list from my articles, following the idea from another user David D., can you please talk to both.
Thankyou

- Oh by the way, I have already reported your activities at WP:ANB/I#Atulsnischal_.28talk_.E2.80.A2_contribs.29_reported_by_Ragib. Other admins have agreed with me that your spamming of the articles was quite bad. Thank you. --Ragib 21:03, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

- At the expense of sounding silly, I must admit I haven't not been able to find a solution to my problems with Bangla script. Your PA warning.
Hi Ragib. Please make a note of the edit summary here too. I was on the verge of leaving him a {npa} but I decided against it because, having seen the way he behaves on talk pages, I was certain that, a) he'd point out to me tongue firmly in cheek that he was only commenting on the content and had not called me a troll...
So I just decided to pre-empt that. And the last time I reported a personal attack on me to an admin(it was you incidentally), I didnt even get a reply. So I should say that I'm surprised that you still keep a watch on these things. Anyway, your warning accepted. Hope you plaster one on Fowler's page too. Thanks. I apologise in advance for this badly written blunt note. Sarvagnya 08:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- And is there any reason why you wouldnt warn/take action against Fowler in your capacity as admin inspite of me complaining to you? btw, my previous message was a complaint, so to speak. Sarvagnya 08:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

wikipedia Weekly Podcast - interview?
Hey there Ragib, I'm a panelist on Wikipedia Weekly the weekly wikipedia podcast[3]. You may have heard of us. Anyway, we're starting a new segment where we will try and interview interesting users/projects to feature some of the different aspects of WP. I was hoping we would be able to talk to you - Rama's Arrow recomended you. Maybe a 5 minute piece on who you are, the situation of WMF in Bangladesh and the specific differences between the Bangladeshi and English wikipedias. In fact maybe we could have a three-way interview with you and Rama's Arrow? That would be great! We record using Skype (so you would need that programme, a microphone and a a broadband connection to participate) and can prerecord the interview at pretty much any time that is convenient for you (and Rama's arrow). Tell me what you think, Witty lama 07:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Concern
Hi Ragib, I know that you had earlier brought up the issue of potential socks on the India page, but I am getting concerned about a number of new users who are all making very similar edits and using their numbers to influence decision-making on the India page. Something doesn't seem to add up, and I thought you (as an admin) might be able to pursue it further. (I want to state at the outset that I am not accusing anyone of anything.) The users in question, of course, are Nikkul (talk · contribs), Coollemonade (talk · contribs), huniebunie (talk · contribs), XavierIcI (talk · contribs), and (now) Indianhilbilly (talk · contribs). They all appeared on WP in mid-February, they all make edits involving pictures on India-related pages. For example, note that the contributions of Nikkul and Indianhilbilly seem strikingly similar. The first four claim they are college students—all good friends—who are planning to use their WP editing experience to land "computer internships" this summer; however, the nature of their edits (IMO) are hardly the kind that would land any internship, let alone a computer one. Users Coolemonade and hunniebunnie are supposedly college women in the US (according to their user pages), however, when I showed their writing to some college women in the US, their verdict was that the writing, was not the work of women, at least not ones that had grown up in the US. Of course, there's alway the primary possibility that these users are all making good faith edits and just happened to appear on WP at the same time. However, for me, enough red flags have been raised that I feel someone like you, with more WP experience, should look into it. Thanks. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:50, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello Ragib dear. After you protected the page, a few editors, including me attempted to establish a discussion on the debated issue. However, the opposing individual did not contribute to the discussion despite the request, only replying with a "see talk". I do not like reverting, however, it seems like many users have established the relevancy of the Devanagari script with various sources and expositions. Your advice and/or comments on this matter would be highly appreciated. With regards, AnupamTalk 19:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ragib
Hi Ragib, how you doin? Hope you remember me. I have been a long admirer of your good activities related to Wikipedia. I wanted to bring something to your notice; however you appear to be busy. I came across this article while surfing: Almeda University. I was rather surprised at the way the article is different from most Wikipedia articles. This article, which reads like pure criticism, is about an American institution, which is probably a fake. My question is; if it is fake; does it deserve to get Wikipedia attention? Shouldn't this article be deleted from Wikipedia? (if the organization is genuine; which I doubt; the article needs to be balanced) What is your opinion? Doesn't it look like one of the thousands of organizations that exist with no honest intentions and hence should not be allowed a Wikipedia article? --Pinaki ghosh 10:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you have made some reverts in the article on Buddhadev Bhattacharya. Since you are looking after the article, will you update the latest controversy regarding the mass killing of 14 people at Nandigram on March 14, for which he was blamed, and the state of West Bengal protested in uniform, with intellectuals of his party coming out of the party condemning his act? You can check sources like Anandabazar Patrika and Bartaman from March 14, 2007 till today for the exact news]. If you are busy for this, you can ask me. Education in Bangladesh, please, help
I have started working on the article Education in Bangladesh. It was in an extremely bad shape. The last few edits were turning it into a motley hotchpotch of text, link and image for private university/English medium agenda-pushers. Even without that the article had little content. I have began by putting in an enormous amount of fresh text, and even more massive amount of resource links (Banglapedia, government sites and downloadable pdf links). Now the real work should begin. Would you lend a hand in this? I can't do it alone. Do you have anyone else in mind who might help? That person doesn't need to be Bangladeshi. Bangla wikipedia
Hi Ragib (I have a question - are you রাগীব or রাজীব?). Thanks for inviting me to join the Bangla wiki. I already have an account over there. Also, I do not like the phonetic typing - I prefer to use the bengali keyboard layout directly. I even consider contributing there. But, as you can see, my expertise is mainly computing - and I am not to comfortable in Bengali in this field. :) This is the only thing that is preventing me from contributing over there. But, I will try to work on articles about my hometown and nearby areas. If you need any specific information or assistance, you can antime contact me here. I will be more than happy to help. Please, check this out
User:NAHID, for some obscure reason, is trying to stalk me, whatever little edit he does on Wikpedia is mostly spent on the Welcoming stuff (which is highly recommendable, I am sure, but can also be interpreted as an attempt at generating endorsement support for his behavior) and stalking my edits (sometimes coupled with disruptive editing. His initial jest in contributing to Private Universities of Bangladesh (especially Independent University, Bangladesh), for which I myself has presented him a barnstar has degenerated into private-university/English-medium agenda-pushing. He has already tried to recruit User:Niaz bd to that end.
He also has shown exemplary profusion as a troll (see his repeating blitz of irrelevant questions for which answers could easily be found on the policy and guideline pages on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, Wikipedia talk:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Help desk). His lack of civility is also of concern (especially his blood boiling moronic edit summaries targeted at me). (See also: User talk:Aditya Kabir/Archive 5 and User talk:NAHID). I know only one Bangladeshi administrator here - that's you - and I can only turn to use for advise. What is to be done with this high amount of thickness? Aditya Kabir 16:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC) - please, pardon my French, I'm frustrated a bit, and answer to my talk page
- Post Script: Well, I am taking back my complaint. Thanks for not responding. I guess, frustration led me to say bad things about the user. It's all part of the game as I understand. No use getting upset at so little. Though the facts are right, my reaction was not (how I miss Zora, my godess of wikilove, she would have seen right through all that). Sorry.
- And, What was this - "Ragib and Aditya Kabir seem to be pals, I have already mentioned in first deletion review that I have a problem with Ragib he has been systematically following the articles I have worked on and undoing changes... User:Ragib is friends with Aditya both have given shallow strong deletion votes, both have been collaborating before" - from User:Atulsnischal's comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Natural History of South Asia mailing list (2nd nomination)? It seems we are collaborators now. WOW!!! There's a definitely some wikilove missing here. What to do? Aditya Kabir 16:06, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Regarding on Aditya Kabir's comments
- It's easy to accuse somebody by mentioning these points. What obscure reason?? Ragib Bhayia, After tagging an image, he (User:Aditya Kabir started to scoring my cotribution, mocking at me and attempted to engage in WP:Edit war. Same thing he did it with me before.
- He made quarreling environment in Template talk:Private Universities of Bangladesh by repeating the same univ link again and again. And Mocked at welcome commette members in his user page(Paragraph starts with: If you are new here). Also he's mocked at me 'coz I'm a member!!
- Always insulted me in his talk page archive by calling me newbie and has placed a derisive template box.
- Called me Wiki demon at User:Bsnowball's talk page by refering the statement: You see, I am making this roaster of Wikidemon, and this would come handy.
- He also put wrong-assesment in notable university article. The university article had an assesment by Arman Bro. For example: no need to mention. Ragib bhayia, You've already judged it as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Bangladesh/Assessment.Thanks (though it's notable and had pre-assesment)
- He tried to target another user in this talk page. User talk:Misza13/Archives/2007/02#Two images unfortunately deleted by you, can you help?. There, Aditya Kabir's statement I am checking this user as much as I can, though without the tools available to admins it's quite an arduous task---as he has / had wide interest to do that and take control over other user / admin.
- Now he's trying to target me and harassing me.Because of what? I don't know, how many users he is going to target and Stalk in future? His disruptive behavior always remind us the blocked User:Oden (User talk:Oden/Archive 3) (Who was blocked for targetting and Stalking user).
- Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, Wikipedia talk:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Help desk) these three desks provide solution for the user / admin. Even experience editor / admin asked question there. So, should we judge someone as a troll if he asks some questions there?? If so, then why do we need those help desks?
But he took it otherwise, as his intention is to blame me.
- Contributing in a particular (or other areas) are always considered to be valid contribution. I've tried to lend my hand to Niaz bro as he is very productive. May be User:Aditya Kabir envies me for that (His comment:He has already tried to recruit User:Niaz bd to that end)
Ragib Bahiya, both of you may have good relationship. But I'm not here to involving quarrell with any fellow editors ('coz it always waste efforts). I shall be grateful for your comments/replies. If I'm wrong let me know. I'll be happy for that. Thank you --NAHID 22:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Please See User talk:Bsnowball#Hi and User talk:Bsnowball#The borges quote on your user page. He left that message just after my message.--NAHID 23:08, 25 March 2007 (UTC) P.S.But he shouldn't have illustrates lie things here.Removed
I have left a huge post on Nahid's talkpage. I hope it clears up some of the bad blood, if not all. Take a look at it if you want, and tell me if the approach was right. Aditya Kabir 14:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hahahahaha...Now That's become your proof!! Hmm you'r trying to be a good man by providing that Epic (in the name of a billion times that I have hurt your feelings). What about your hidden bad blood? However that was good approach. And might make you happy.Keep up the good works :) Thanks--NAHID 20:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Jaya Bachchan image
Hi there, I'd like to ask why you think this edit of yours determines that the image does not fulfil FU criteria? I have presented a detailed FU rationale at Image:Jaya_Bachchan.jpg as well as employed the appropriate FU template. Category:Official_photographs_of_Indian_politicians is a list of Indian-politician articles that employ images using this template, so I am at a loss to understand why you think the image does not fulfill FU criteria. Bear in mind that the image itself is from the official Indian Govt. website. Please reply on my talk-page. Regards, Ekantik talk 02:56, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, actually never mind. I just saw Ganeshk's reply. I should have known that images of living people may not qualify as I have previous experience with uploading images of living people, but I would have thought that an Indian politician photo template would have covered images found at Indian governmental websites. It just seems a sad waste of effort the way I ran around finding an "official" image and then hunting down a template because Wikipedia policy hates living people. Rather disappointed but hey, what can you do? Ekantik talk 03:04, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, actually I was the one who ran around trying to get that image of Amitabh freely-licensed and it worked, so I thought I'd do the same for Jaya as well, lol. Oh I suppose I can still put in the effort if I want to but I'm "officially" on wikibreak now, lol. From your story of old buildings, Bangladesh war etc. it does seem rather harsh that many people resort to taking their own images of whatever they're illustrating. At least it gives some of us a reason to use our cameras more. :-) Ekantik talk 03:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Jana Gana Mana in Devanagiri Script
First of all I would like you the read the comment I have put in three discussion pages: Jana Gana Mana, Vande Mataram, Sare Jahan se accha.
I think everyone should know this: Go through Sarvagnya's contributions and talk pages and you will find that he has a Anti-Hindi and Anti-Devanagiri bias. One of his major contributions to Wikipedia has been the deletion of Hindi names and Devanagiri script from every India related article.
He has done exactly the same thing for three songs which are very important in India(Jana Gana Mana, Saare Jahan se Accha, Vande Mataram). The fact that Devanagiri is a major script in India and Hindi is the official language of India means that every Indian will want to read this article and hence it is necessary to keep the Devanagiri version. Just because of ONE POV-pushing Wikipedian we are indulging in an endless debate!
And why should ONE biased Wikipedian be allowed to hold Wikipedia to ransom? How can one persons opinion be greater than the Constitution of India. The Constituent Assembly which had representatvies from all parts and communities of India had collectively taken the decision. If Sarvagnya is unhappy with it , let him keep it to himself, why should Wikipedia suffer?
The reason I have reverted other's edits(which is only Sarvagnya's deletion of Devanagiri version is this): Most Indians learn these songs in the Devanagiri Script. It isn't just relevant,it is necessary. --Deepak D'Souza 07:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- I welcome the 3RR, I will use it to point to the Sarvagna/KNM/Gnanapiti triad who are holding all India related articles hostage to their Anti-Hindi and Anti- Devanagiri bias. Last of all, i dont know you well but it seems to me that you have a personal interest in keeping the Devangiri version of Jana Gana Mana out. --Deepak D'Souza 07:35, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, can you help by adding the Bangla/Hindi scripts for Chaunk? Do you know which language this term comes from (and the etymology of the word)? And which language pronounces it "chaunk" and which pronounces it "chaunce"? And can it also be called tarka or baghar? Badagnani 04:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, thank you--I had assumed that East and West Bengali language and culinary culture were essentially the same. I suppose the alternate terms aren't Bengali either? And none of them is in the Bengali dictionary? New sources I've found translate "chaunk" as "tempering," referring to the frying of spices, ginger, chilies, onions, etc. to enhance their flavor at the end (or the beginning) of cooking a dal or similar dish. I'm sure that technique is used in Bangladesh, as isn't dal (like mung dal or toor dal soup) eaten there? Thanks for your response, and I'll email the user you recommend. Badagnani 04:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, I've got "baghar" in the article now. What would be the proper romanization of that, "baghar" or "baghar"? Or "baghaar" or "vaghaar," or "vaghar"? There are so many languages... Any idea what the etymological/linguistic root is? And is it a noun or a verb? Badagnani 04:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
And the Bangla script you gave me seems longer than just "baghar"--there seem to be more letters in there. Is there more to the word? Badagnani 04:48, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for all. Can you check Chaunk to make sure all is accurate, as far as we know? Little by little we'll make contact with Wikipedians in various parts of India and get the names in each regional language. Badagnani 07:42, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm aware of the situation. As of now, I'm going to leave the current block in place as the sockpuppetry was in good faith (he was confirming an e-mail he sent). I'm trying to explain to him that he can't do that. Any further point disruption after the block will be met with another block. John Reaves (talk) 05:29, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Help - mass change of links
Hi Ragib,
I corrected the spelling mistake on the Bangladeshn Standard Time article and moved it to Bangladesh Standard Time.
However, looking at what links to the old page shows hundreds of items Special:Whatlinkshere/Bangladesh_Standard_Time.
Is there anyway to do a mass rename to correct these (or is it right to leave the old page - with the redirect - in place permanently)?
Thanks,

- No problem - figured out the links were in a template which I've corrected. AktarAhmed 06:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
FU thumbnails
Hi Ragib! Thanks for pointing out that. I'd an impression that uploaders can thumbnail images in their user subpages. --Victor 17:59, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
I have removed User:Atulsnischal's rant from the talk page, and copied your response to their user talk. Hope you don't mind. If you object, feel free to revert me. Chris cheese whine 00:20, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
BUET
Naturally, citations will be the bottleneck. The "profile" I managed to get for RU saved the day. Something like that for BUET needs to be managed if we are to get a FA--ppm 01:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

WE HAVE WON
Hi, Ragib bhai. Great news! We are through to the 2nd round of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. It's a long long dream coming true on earth. I remember in the last world cup when bd lost to canada, i could barely stand on my feet. Later they also lost to kenya. Anyway I never gave up hope on them. And now I'm feeling sorry for those who do not support bd because they are 'weak'. It's not that you can't support other teams rather than your homeland, but how that mentality exceeds supporting your own country. Anyway most of them are not like that. One of my friends who is a die hard fan of India, supported Sri Lanka on their match against Indians so that bangladesh can move to super 8. However if you look at the recent past you will feel a lot of encouraging things happening to bangladesh and this is one of them. Cheers and Congrates again. Lets say WE HAVE DONE IT! ---Tarif from Bangladesh 22:43, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
