Jack Neave

Is deserving in his own right I think. I have a little more to add. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:05, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Added to the list. I was expecting Betty May to make an appearance. Edwardx (talk) 23:14, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
There is a link via Dolores who may well be my next target and I would be surprised if she didn't know him but he was not really the sort of man she was interested in. Too gay(?) and not cultured/intense or rich enough. I have no direct link yet. He had a long biography but it is impossible to find, even at the British Library. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:19, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
London's demi-monde is providing you with rich pickings. Stumbled across a Rowland Hill blue plaque today in Orme Square W2 - will upload photos to his page and perhaps start articles for the house and/or square in due course. Edwardx (talk) 23:24, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Fertile ground indeed. I look forward to the Hill material. I was mistaken about the book, BL do have it, but I generally prefer to buy so that I can peruse at my leisure. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:29, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Amazing link to Ian Dury who seems to have been inspired by Neave. There is more to come. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:54, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
Amazing what one can learn writing these articles. Will do the Caravan Club DYK later today. Edwardx (talk) 13:16, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
I would not have linked them. I can't do much more without getting the Benney book or visiting the BL. He managed to write over 300 pages so there must be a lot more to add. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:42, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

I have broken something somewhere in the DYK templates in moving the page to the more catchy common name. Any ideas what? Philafrenzy (talk) 11:00, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Edwardx, your nomination was pulled back from a queue for copy/paste and close paraphrasing concerns. Please stop by the template as soon as possible to address them. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:07, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Edwardx, the article was tagged for close paraphrasing back on August 30, and the issues have still not been addressed although you have been quite active editing on Wikipedia. If we don't hear from you on the nomination template very soon, I'll be closing the nomination as unsuccessful. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:56, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I've just given it an extensive copyedit. Edwardx (talk) 23:23, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
Decided to drop this one. Copyvios were just too extensive - the dangers of nominating the editathon contributions of new editors! Edwardx (talk) 12:34, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

DYKs

Victoria Cleland and Dolores (Ziegfeld girl) are both possible if you are so inclined. The later needs expansion but a source is linked. The deadline for both is today. No problem if you can't. I realise you must be busy after your trip. Sorry, I have just realised that I forgot about Dorset Square. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:29, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Will definitely do a nom for Cleland today. Dolores was started on 17 Sep, so too late. However, at 297 chars, it is perfect for a 5x expansion to 1500! And no rush. I also forgot about Dorset Square, but have just started Wilton Place (in order to upload some WLM photos) and that led to the more hook-worthy Esmeralda's Barn. Edwardx (talk) 19:13, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Excellent thinking on the expansion. Over what time frame does it have to be done? I will look into the barn (so to speak). I feel like I already know a lot about it! Philafrenzy (talk) 19:36, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I thought you would have heard of "the barn". 5x expansion follows the same rules as for a normal DYK, seven days from start to finish. So, if you started to expand it on say 8 October, you would have until 15 October to nominate it. Edwardx (talk) 19:40, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Great. I have to finish the other Dolores too on which you are mentioned and whose life has uncanny similarities to Betty May. There is also Crab Tree Club for your list if you like. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:47, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Crab Tree Club - interesting stuff and added to the list. Edwardx (talk) 21:40, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. A good example of making your own entertainment like we are told people used to do! I hope you listened to My Little Popsy-Wopsy. I think Kylie should do a cover version. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:06, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Esmeralda's Barn

Third on Google despite very little content so far. I will have a proper look later. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:57, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I've added some content. It's already shaping up nicely, DYK-wise Edwardx (talk) 18:41, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

No date of birth or death but what the hell. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:16, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

I have taken a first pass through the article. Although I am not knowledgeable enough to review all aspects of the article, I did spot some possible problems. As experienced with DYK as you are, I am sure you have solutions if needed.

I sure would like to see this article run as a DYK, especially with such a colorful title. Ought to spark some interest, yep.

Thank you Edward for saving the union on your recent emergency trip to Scotland. Hello. I created Aqueduc de Roquefavour earlier today, and I was wondering if you might want to nominate it for DYK? Is a person a RS about themselves? I am sure we have a rule about that but it's non-controversial anyway and she has an interesting backstory. Saw her and another African woman on the Africa Channel, Sky TV. Makes a nice change. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:17, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Good list of Covent Garden listed buildings too here: http://www.coventgardentrust.org.uk/resources/environmentalstudy/management/listedbuildings/ Philafrenzy (talk) 23:11, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Added to the list. Edwardx (talk) 23:19, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Feel free to expand and/or do the building articles. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:21, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
How did you know that I was running short of new articles to start (joke). Will look anyway. There are definitely Grade II listed pubs in London that I'm missing - have heard that there are 99 listed pubs in Westminster alone. Edwardx (talk) 12:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
What about pubs that have closed but have a significant history? There were several in Henrietta Street, including one where Sheridan(?) fought a duel. To be added to that article. What about Bedford House, now demolished to create Southampton Street? Philafrenzy (talk) 12:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I'll have a look later. Edwardx (talk) 12:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Nag's Head, Covent Garden done. Edwardx (talk) 22:10, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Great. I worked in Long Acre for several years. There could be an interesting line in buildings that were important but have been demolished, but I guess you will be doing the existing ones first. Good work on the Crab Tree hooks by the way. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:20, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Esmeralda's Barn

I fear is not even close to complete yet. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. I've been too distracted by WLM and pubs. I've done a nom anyway. Edwardx (talk) 23:07, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

DYKs

You have two for today, one of which you have missed? Philafrenzy (talk) 22:03, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Oops. None our "ours", just the work of others I was planning to nominate. Will attend to shortly. Edwardx (talk) 22:05, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
It's become a bit tedious right now. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:10, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Yes, some people's expectations are perhaps unreasonably strict. Perhaps we should try to get a former DYK to GA instead? Edwardx (talk) 23:18, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Which one? Philafrenzy (talk) 23:20, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
London street? Buildings, history, inhabitants etc. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:29, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Maybe it would be easiest to start with one that probably already meets the GA criteria. How about, off the top of my head, Jan van Beers (artist)? Edwardx (talk) 12:30, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I will need to read the criteria. I like the pictures but the article is substantially incomplete due to poor sources. It might be possible to fix that with research. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:36, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
GA criteria are arguably less demanding than DYK these days. Plenty of others to choose from. Edwardx (talk) 23:09, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

DYK thanks and possible nom

Hi Edwardx, thanks so much as I'm really enjoying seeing all these fashion names in lights! Not sure if this one is worthy, but Jill Stuart was a page in trouble and I've just substantially enlarged today – I think it's a 5x – to save it from the fiery pit. An interesting brand but the DYK hook I thought might work is that she's part of a 3G fashion dynasty. Her parents founded 'Mister Pants' in NYC in the 1960s and dressed Lucille Ball et al and now her daughter has launched her own label. No worries if not suitable. Libby norman (talk) 15:58, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Libby. Fashion people often have very interesting lives. Jill Stuart is definitely worthy of a DYK, so I've added her to my list. The 3G angle is good, and I like the "sold her first collection to Bloomingdales by the age of 15" bit. I can always offer ALTs and let someone else decide. Whatever is likely to get the most hits... Kensal Green Cemetery

Dolores is buried there (No. 90 c. G). Is it somewhere you frequent? Philafrenzy (talk) 20:12, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

I took photos there some years ago at an open day, and would love to revisit some time. But when? No idea. The 2014 open day sounds great - lots of Goths when I went. 27 July 2014 Open Day Edwardx (talk) 20:45, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Turns out it is the adjacent St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery (same plot). Astonishing how much info I have on Dolores now. Almost nothing at first. And there is a murder too to be included as all good stories ought to have. Philafrenzy (talk) 20:49, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Great work. As a former murder suspect myself, they do make good stories - remind me next Sunday. Edwardx (talk) 20:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

I hope so, but whether or not you're going to be there, I'd like to pick your brains in advance, if I may: of the articles we all worked on at the Ashton editathon which, in your view, would be a good template to follow (layout, section headings etc) for the forthcoming event? With WikiViewStats still out of action, I've not been following the numbers as I normally would, but you're right, Wikipedia article traffic statistics for the last two DYKs are disappointing. However, Gabriel Wells was good. Thanks for the reminder, I will explore further. I've used that site as a ref a few times. There are just not enough hours in the day! Naylor gives an interesting insight into the development of what has become a pervasive phenomenon in popular culture. Of course, star signs are ridiculous, but I would say that - I'm a Cancer. Edwardx (talk) 08:27, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Donald MacLeary

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Donald MacLeary, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://oxfordindex.oup.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100123597.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. New articles

Your industry is magnificent, sir. Yolanda Sonnabend now, I see! If I may say so, your short, sharp articles are a model of their kind. Though you must leave us something to do tomorrow week at the ROH bash! Tim riley talk 22:14, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

You are too kind. And quite right Tim - if I start anything else, I will do merely enough to establish notability and avoid deletion. Edwardx (talk) 09:11, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

The fact was ... that two men who plotted to assassinate King George I were arrested in the Green Man public house in 1722? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Green Man, Leytonstone. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Green Man, Leytonstone), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000.
