Daily Mail reference at Ross, Tasmania

Hi. Please do not use the Daily Mail as you did at Ross, Tasmania. It is not a reliable source. See WP:DAILYMAIL. Feel free re-add the content if you can source it to a reliable source. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 22:05, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks I know that, but it was just for some extra detail about an uncontroversial topic (a bakery in rural Australia), as supportive information for the article which is otherwise well documented, so in this case IMHO it didn't seem to be a big deal. Certainly take it out if you wish. Deathlibrarian (talk) 02:37, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
I think we should avoid it like the plague, even for "uncontroversial" topics. WP:DAILYMAIL is pretty clear: the Daily Mail is "generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is generally prohibited", it "should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles". Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:48, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes, as I said, I'm aware of the rule on Daily Mail, as you can see I've been editing on wikipedia for a little while now, but in this case it was for a particularly minor/mundane bit of information about how much the room that the bakery rents out cost per night, so in all practical sense, there was no harm done in including the reference. IN any case, its removed now, so lets leave it at that - all good. Thanks, and happy editing to you too. Deathlibrarian (talk) 09:56, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
What I was trying to get across is that the quoted bits are so sweeping that they don't allow for this kind of exception. Using the Daily Mail to include minor details is also a WP:WEIGHT issue ("Neutrality requires that mainspace articles and pages fairly represent all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources"). Robby.is.on (talk) 10:07, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Robby.is.on I'm not sure why you are so concerned about this. I only referenced it for the inclusion of some minor uncontroversial detail, and that detail and the Daily mail reference has now been removed. I think we can both now leave it, and move on now, thanks for the discussion. Deathlibrarian (talk) 10:40, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
I'm baffled by the misconceptions about WP:DAILYMAIL that seem to exist and I'm concerned with dispelling them. That is all. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:51, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor into East Timor independence. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:19, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

List of the oldest buildings in Australia moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, List of the oldest buildings in Australia, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:00, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Motorcycle articles

Hi Deathlibrarian, I hope you have been well.

I thought you might possibly be interested in hearing about an unusual epilogue to that dispute around those e-motorcycle articles earlier in the year.

You might recall that a certain agressive Wiki editor with admin powers seem to have an obsession with a those particular articles, constantly throwing around allegations of conflict of interest and and so on. I did my darndest to engage with the editor and repeatedly attempted to challenged the various claims, but it felt a little like arguing with a brick wall, and ended up getting dragged out for months. Despite my efforts to debate the issue, it seemed that every time I logged on to Wikipedia he would pop up, sending me a messages repeating the same type of claims.

A few months ago, I noticed he had suddenly become very quiet. I did some poking around, and it turned out the editor's account had been suspended from Wikipedia. Apparently, this was due to suspicions that the editor had recieved payments for some of his edits.

Bizarrely, even though his user page stated he spoke American English, lived in South Carolina and so on, apparently, the editor was actually Indian. Inchiquin (talk) 13:54, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Lidia Thorpe

Re. your edit today, you added "…criticised the laws as racist…" - but there’s no continuity there? The other sentence in the paragraph talks about her assuming that the NT’s AG was a white man when that person was in fact an indigenous woman, and makes no mention of any laws. All the best. Boscaswell talk 09:23, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Oh thanks for picking that up, yes I've now changed the text so it reads better - Thorpe's comments were critical of the laws that were being introduced (and thus critical of the AG for introducing them) - Cheers. Deathlibrarian (talk) 11:29, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Just waiting for a mate requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Qcne (talk) 10:35, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
