Your edits on Michael Enright and Jordan Matson

Hello Deathlibrarian, I am a little perplexed by the way in which you edit. You appear to be an experienced editor, you've actually been on this platform longer than I have, and yet you are making numerous very basic errors that someone of your level of experience simply should not be making. For example, you have consistently tried to add the name of the film Heval to the Michael Enright (actor) and Jordan Matson articles without using the proper markup, using quotation marks instead of italics. You have left spaces between the ends of sentences and their respective references, you have been sloppy in your spelling (writing Micheal instead of Michael, Matsons instead of Matson), etc. I'm sure the content of your edits is good, but it doesn't seem like you are putting the appropriate amount of care into the work you do. The reference you are continually trying to add in order to support the claim that the YPG refuted Matson's accusations against Enright isn't properly formatted—there isn't an actual reference to click on. Hi Chantern15 - yes, I'm happy to look at that article for you, let's see what we can do. There was a discussion about removing the parrallex diagram from the page, and two editors were making attacks that were against WP:CIV. I spoke to both of them on their talk pages, and they did strikethroughs and deleted the comments after I raised it to them. Pretty poor behaviour, but anyway, its done with so that's that. Question to a librarian

You are just the first on I thought and you are active at AfDs: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of non-fiction books about Shanghai 1920s–1950. Can such lists be defended with some argument that they represent library-catalogue-type collections or such? _{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 09:56, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

Hey There - that list would be useful - Library catalogues will have books listed by subject (a bit like this), which you could also use to find books on Shanghai - but they will probably only show "Shanghai - History" - or "Shanghai - history - 20th c". So for instance the library of Congress has a subject listing for Shanghai History. However, as you can see, this list is more specific, so would be more useful as a way to find books on this subject. However, I don't know if that counts as a defence in terms of AFD - I doubt it? Request in relation to Vmoto/Super Soco pages

Hi Deathlibarian, I hope you are well.

I was wondering if I could lean on you, for some assistance in a matter relating to the Vmoto page?

First up, I should notify you of something that has likely escaped your attention.

In recent days, one Wiki editor has slapped a tag on the Super Soco page, stating that A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. and This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use.

At a glance, these tags give the impression that they reflect some kind of consensus view. However, this is not at all the case. It is important to note that it is just one editor who is behind this push.

If you look at the Super Soco AFD page, you’ll see his arguments around COI are summarised in the first three lines.

Suspected WP: UPE - because creator is also connected with Revolt Motors and Vmoto - both distributors of Super Soco electric bikes in India and Australia respectively.

I have attempted to explain to the editor in question that his argument behind the UPE and COI tags are mistaken, and that Revolt Motors is not the distributor of Super Soco bikes in India, they are an independent company and are a competitor to Vmoto.

To give an example of what I am referring to, see the link below. What this illustrates is that Vmoto are in fact in compemption with Revolt in India:

Vmoto is an Australian two-wheeler manufacturing group that largely makes electric scooters. The company recently signed an MoU with the Indian company Bird Group, and will discuss collaborating for the distribution of two of its products – Super Soco CUmini and Super Soco CUx.

My attempts to explain this have fallen on deaf ears, however. I get a sense the editor has made up his mind on this.

The argument of the editor around Revolt is based on a source that referring to a supply chain link between Super Soco. However, these links are common in the automotive industry, and especially in a small, emerging industry as is the case with the e-motorcycle space.

There is no question that Revolt Motors and Vmoto Soco are independent companies (in fact, the same is true of Vmoto and Super Soco, although these do have a partnership relationship, albeit one which seems to be breaking down).

Essentially, the UPE and the COI tags on the page are based on the claim that Revolt is the Super Soco distributor in India, which is certainly not the case. In fact, Revolt is not even the same brand as Super Soco.

The reason I feel compelled to mention this to you, is because if the Super Soco article is pulled down based on the dodgy UPE claim, the editor who is pushing for the removal of Super Soco will then go on to delete the Vmoto page, using the removal of the Super Soco page as justification.

What concerns me about this is that the UPE tag on a Wikipedia page is like the kiss of death. Most visitors to the page will not realise that there is just one editor behind this, and some will surely nominate the article for delete, based on this mistaken view that there is a well-founded consensus.

At the moment, the editor is targeting the Super Soco page, because he knows it is much quieter that the Vmoto page (note that the UPE tag has not been pasted on the Vmoto page, despite the comments of the editor on the Super Soco page: I believe this is tactical, it looks to me as if the editor is aiming to quietly remove the Super Soco page, before anyone notices).

What I am requesting, is would you be able to offer some support in this?

If you could post a 'Keep' request on the Super Soco page that would be a help for sure. However, what would be even more helpful is if you could challenge the dubious UPE claim, posted at the top of the Super Soco page. Basically, if you could employ your strong research skills to track down any sources that show Revolt Motors and Vmoto are independent and distinct companies, that would be fantastic.

Essentially, if the aim is to keep the Vmoto and Super Soco page, we need to show that Revolt Motors and Vmoto are distinct companies, to invalidate the assertion by this editor that there is a conflict of interest here.

What makes this a bit challenging is that is that there is a lot of mis-information about Vmoto, Super Soco and Revolt, many writers don't understand the relationship between them, and it is possible to 'cherry pick' poor quality sources to mount an argument that there is a relationship between Revolt and Super Soco/Vmoto. So I need some assistance with this, I'm not going to be able to do it on my own.

Hi Inchiquin - yes, I'm happy to help here. He seems to be throwing around accusations that I'm not sure he can prove, or even make sense?. As far as I am concerned, I am straight looking at the company profile, and its level of notability is shown by various RS; it seems to be a notable company to me. I've popped in and added about 8 more RS to the article from some main newspaper mastheads and industry sources. The article is pretty solidly references now, not sure how it could be deleted. As far as I can see, Vmoto is doing some pretty solid work in the expanding electric scooter market, and outside Asia, seems to be one of the front running companies. I'm not sure what to do about that dodgy UPE tags on the Super Soco and Revolt pages. I've actually pointed out to the editor in question that the basis for the UPE tag is nonsensical. He responded by stating Let's hold the horses and wait for others' assessment. In other words, even this combative editor doesn't deny the UPE tag is questionable!. I note, however, he still hasn't taken them down, as he knows well that a UPE tag is the surest way to kill off a Wiki article (or three). Maybe I'll try to refer the issue to dispute resolution. Its like that wikipedia editor is going on a deletion rampage. Super soco is one of the main electric bike manufacturers, and I think it has the biggest sales of electric motorcycles in some European countries... I've seen articles comparing the super soco bike to the electric harley as the two main bike. Deleting the page is a bit ridiculous. I'll add a few more articles to it, there's plenty out there. Good on you for all the work you've put into this so far. Unfortunately, it looks as if they've pulled down the Revolt Motors page. They should have never put the UPE tag on that one, it based on rubbish arguments.

That Fiddle Faddle guy posted delete requests on all three articles- Revolt, Vmoto, and Super Soco- on the same day, which I found quite curious at the time. I also note that those UPE tags were slapped on two of the aforementioned articles by Hatchens on the 20th of December, the same day as that he was communicating with Faddle.

Ah, the revolt motors is gone? was it a speedy deletion and not contested? How long had it been on AFD for? I don't know anything about revolt motors, and really my specialty is Australian business. For me the easist to find material on is Vmoto, that was the simple, there's a bit less on Super soco, and I only had a quick look at revolt. Is it the biggest electric motor bike maker in India? Hi DeathLibrarian- Yes, there was one 'Keep' vote for Revolt early on, however, there were three delete votes after that, including one from Celestine (who nominated Vmoto for an afd) and that Fiddle Faddle person (who also mysteriously placed delete votes on Vmoto and Super Soco on the same day).

I was going to place a comment in response to the some of the delete votes on Revolt, but I didn't have enough time, in part because it coincided with the busy holiday period. I think there is a small clique engaging in dirty tactics to bin the articles, I think they know that most people are going to be distracted at this time of year and so they have timed the afd nomination to take advantage.

It is worth noting that on Super Soco, both of delete votes have originated with this clique, and it was nominated for afd by Hatchens. In particular, I'm sure that Hatchens and Faddle are working hand-in-glove, the Faddle editor clearly knows nothing about the companies in question and it is pretty obvious he has been given a 'heads up' by Hatchens, which is surely the only reason for his interest.

Well yeah, I think they should keep the conversation about changing the page transparent. The Vmoto page is the strongest, it definitely shouldn't go, and if it was deleted I would query that seriously with the deleting editor, based on the solid RS on the page. Motorcycle questions

Hi Deathlibrarian

Thanks for your tireless work on the Vmoto article, it looks like it has now made it through the Afd process. Over the past couple of weeks I have been having to try and defend those three articles on Wikipedia all the while trying to balance all the things going on in my regular life, and it was really quite exhausting, an impossible situation really. It was all the more frustrating given that I don't think there was any good reason as to why any of those articles should have been marked for deletion in the first place. So I appreciate your work.

That aside, there was something else on the same subject matter that I thought I might bring up, though this is of a somewhat less fractious nature.

You mentioned in one of your earlier messages that you were a motorcycle rider. I have actually been looking to get my motorcycle license recently, initially I was hoping to have it by the end of 2021. Things didn't go quite as planned, in part because of the Covid situation. However, I am hoping to have more luck in 2022.

I don't know where you are located in Australia (as I understand, the rules vary somewhat from state to state), but if you have a free minute sometime perhaps I could ask you some advice about the topic and some questions that have been at the back of my mind in relation to the process.

Hey, Wikipedia can be *very* stressful at times, so I completely empathise with you, and good on you for creating articles and putting the effort in, don't let it get you down...the article creation work you are doing is great and very importatn. I could see you needed some assistance there so was happy to help out - ultimately the Vmoto page was warranted so it was good to put some time into it and great it got through AFD. I guess we will see what happens with Super Soco. Yes, very happy to help out with advice on Bike licence, I'm in Oz. I've only had my current one for about 2 years, but I did have one a while ago. I's more a scooter guy, so I know them very well. Hi Deathlibrarian, sorry about my delayed response. I decided to take an extended 'Wiki break' for a couple of months as I felt compltetely burnt-out after that lengthy (and ultimately, I think rather stupid) dispute over those motorcycle pages.

I've actually been meaning to get my motorcycle license for a while, however, where I live, you are required to do a specific course called 'Stay upright' before you can do the 'Ls' test. However, I have found that the course is always booked out weeks in advance. Strangely, I noticed that even over the covid lockdowns last year the course was booked well in advance.

Beacuse of this, I've been debating whether I should just go for a high-end e-bike rather than the motorcycle option, however at current I am feeling the motorcycle might be the better option, notwithstanding the diffiuclty in getting a spot in the course.

I had a question about this, assuming you have a free second.

What I was wondering, in Australia, do know if you are legally allowed to ride a motorcycle on private property while unlicensed? Possibly, the laws might vary from place to place. Inchiquin (talk) 04:37, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, I mean, the situation was a bit confusing - its seemed like it was blown up from a riot by some media, and there were local politics involved in the country, that was affecting how it was reported. There certainly wasn't some good solid RS that reassured me about what was going on. Most of the editors voted in the end for deletion. Anyway it's done now.
