Talk?
Thanks for your help with west australian lighthouses - the Cape Leeuwin info box was down the page so I put it back up the top SatuSuro 01:45, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I placed it down there intentionally, inside the lighthouse section, since the article has so much more paragraphes on other topics of the area. De728631 (talk) 01:51, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ok with that explanation I understand - some of the items there will probably go in another article later on anyway so the lighthouse might end up having its own article eventually SatuSuro 02:00, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Now that would be great. Btw, there is a problem with the Leeuwin's little neighbour. I cleaned up at Cape Naturaliste and it turned out that a) the picture was wrongly attributed and b) there could be some historical data included from "Lighthouses of AUS Inc." Maybe you'd like to have a look. De728631 (talk) 02:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK even before looking - at some stage there were some funny things happening at the Australia lighthouse website - I noticed that as I was trying to keep tabs of Cape Sorell on the west coast of Tasmania - and some things even came and went from the website - and yes some eds do simply lift from websites - the WP Indonesian project has that all the time and its a nightmare :( SatuSuro 02:12, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, I didn't mean there was a copyvio problem. Just that the Lighthouses Inc. page has plenty of information that should appropriately be included here. De728631 (talk) 02:17, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry my misinterp - too many threads at one go - yes I agree Natuarliste could well do with a cleanup - I will put it at the West Australian project noticeboard - SatuSuro 02:18, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

WH40k Wiki Project Removal
I removed baseless claims that were created to incite and troll, if my actions were ill-advised I will reverse my changes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.117.185.155 (talk) 18:22, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I actually made an error in the description. The NBM describes the image as "about 1895" -- in the image description, I ought to have put "circa 1895" rather than "1895". However, based on what you're telling me, it appears that even the museum is off by a few years (which is not unusual). I will correct the image description. The NBM hosts its images on the McCord Museum website (the image in question is here). When searching the McCord website, you simply have to indicate that you wish to search the collections of the McCord's "partners" like NBM. I hope that helps. Why did you add a bunch of listings today, but insert them in past dates on the list? It's confusing. --Cbdorsett (talk) 15:29, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Over the past 18 months or so that I have been actively watching the PNT page, the "2-week rule" has never been strictly enforced. I think there is an unwritten policy to give meritorious and notable articles as much leeway as possible so that content will be preserved and not lost. If you want, when you list an article for evaluation, you can mention the date it was tagged. I think it's more important, though, to do the copyvio check and the foreign-language Wikipedia check. They are easy and do not require any knowledge of the foreign language at all. Cbdorsett (talk) 18:32, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism Warnings
Please be careful when leaving vandalism warnings. This warning was not valid as none of that user's edits to the referenced article (Category management) have been vandalism. Perhaps you selected the wrong person from the article history? Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- And about this one: Catalin Ionel Tutunaru. You might very well be right, that it is vandalism, but please be careful about using that word. A lot of people are very touchy about it, and if you can achieve a particular result without it, that's the way to go. In this case, I don't know why the article was ultimately deleted, but if non-notability does the job, there's no need to risk a battle of words with "vandalism". If you look into some of my own early emails, you'll see that some people were even offended when I used the "undo" feature, claiming that it "implied" a charge of vandalism. I think your edits have been good, those few that I have seen, and I don't want you to get tangled up in these stupid, energy-sapping controversies. --Cbdorsett (talk) 18:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
...wow
i can't believe I made that mistake, thanks for the heads-up.
also, it's not really incoherent if you have prior knowledge of the subject matter :( StardustDragon 04:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello De728631. I am not new to wikipedia, but I deleted that page because I know for a fact that it is not true. The source on that page is for a different show, and Disney has never confirmed that show. However, I do not know how to request the page to be deleted. Is that even possible? Thank you! :) --Yankeesrj12 (talk) 03:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Your vandalism of John D. Rockefeller
Your edits of John D. Rockefeller have been reverted. Rockefeller's quotes are presented in a better way here http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_D._Rockefeller. And some of your edits are Uncited and poorly written, (Everything has a price. on his anti-trust and other allegations) (on why didn't he fear govt. action when he was committing anti-trust crimes). And STOP posting messages to users about articles you are not familiar with. NothingWorthy (talk) 17:01, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- You added the entire "Quotes" section to the article, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586622&oldid=234586525. You should have first researched if there are "quotes" by John D. Rockefeller in any other Wikimedia project, here Wikiquote comes to mind. Then feel free to add a link to it on John D. Rockefeller.
- Your next edit, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586775&oldid=234586622, Unencyclopedic, Uncited and Poorly Written, is clearly an act of vandalism.
- And, STOP posting messages to users about articles you are not familiar with. NothingWorthy (talk) 17:57, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- I did not add it, I just restored what you had previously removed. You seem to think that this article is your personal domain, but I'm sorry it is not. Wikipedia is open for anyone. De728631 (talk) 18:00, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Fortunately, WP is not short-minded, you added it http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586622&oldid=234586525. John D. Rockefeller is vandalised regularly on a daily basis, keeping a watchful eye on it is not like thinking of the article as my "personal domain". See the edits just after yours were reverted. NothingWorthy (talk) 18:16, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately you seem to be unaware of your own doings or you've just not yet learned the real meaning of edit histories. Here it is you who removes the entire section of quotes, which I later restored because you didn't state a reason for your deleting the text. So what my revert added was not my own text but older text which you had deleted. De728631 (talk) 18:21, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- "So what my revert added was not my own text but older text which you had deleted", Does it reallay make a difference?. You were the last one to ADD the "Quotes" section, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586622&oldid=234586525. You also ADDED this, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586775&oldid=234586622, which is Unencyclopedic, Uncited and Poorly Written.
- You ADDED thoses edits, and you deny that, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586622&oldid=234586525, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586775&oldid=234586622. I removed thoses edits, twice, and I never denied that. NothingWorthy (talk) 18:37, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- You don't get my point. I only deny that the text I added was originally written by myself. Had you, while removing that big chunk of text, stated in the edit summary that it was poorly written and unencyclopedic and whatnot, I hadn't even touched the article. I just reverted what looked like a deliberate deletion of text to me, not more. So, please let's quit this unproductive discussion and let's go back to editing. De728631 (talk) 18:42, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Again, whether you produced them or just brought them back, it makes NO difference. If you are unaware of this http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_D._Rockefeller, and if you do not know what you are SUBMITTING to WP, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586622&oldid=234586525, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_D._Rockefeller&diff=234586775&oldid=234586622,
- why in first place messing up with the article. NothingWorthy (talk) 18:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

tons and tonnes
I know this problem should not exist but some countries can't get round to the simple task of eradicating imperial measures!
In your article "Amrum Lighthouse" I have changed your ton to tonnes. I appreciate you linked to metric ton, so at least I knew it was in fact a metric ton! However I tend to simply write all "metric tons" as "tonnes" so that there is never any confusion when reading. I wonder if you agree this is the best way to do it?
I notice also your user page states you prefer Metric. Do you know if there are any WikiProjects in relation to adding/fixing metric measurements on articles?

Cat:Freemasonry
The WikiProject has stated such for usability. Most Masons don't do anything notable for the Fraternity itself (or participate at all, sometimes), so putting them in the cat is overcategorization at worst, and not helpful at least. The names in the cat now are notable directly in connection with Freemasonry, as noted in their articles. MSJapan (talk) 22:46, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Wouldn't do much good; you don't have to go to the cat page to add a cat to a page. What would work is a generic notability policy regarding fraternal groups, because I'm sure Rotary, for one, has the same problem. MSJapan (talk) 22:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Vandal reporting
Hi! Thanks for reporting User:75.37.6.108. However, I haven't blocked this person, as they did not receive sufficient warnings. The idea is to increase the level of warnings each time they vandalise. This is a fundemental of WP:AGF - we assume that they are just being playful initially, and give gentle level 1 or 2 warnings (see WP:MLT for a full list of templated warnings). When they reach level 3, this is the first assumption of bad faith, after which they will get blocked. See WP:VANDAL for the full warning process. Please don't be discouraged though - your vandal fighting help is appreciated! This post is not meant to chastise you, just to make you fully aware of the blocking process. Thanks for your efforts - they are appreciated! StephenBuxton (talk) 11:06, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Monitoring as a service
I'm unsurprised that this article was tagged - I just saved it while having lunch and will extend it shortly. Anyway this is a growing area (half a dozen providers have popped up over the last month or two) and it's fairly critical for cloud computing... given the term is both descriptive and generic it is thus surprising that someone has tried to trademark it - a Wikipedia article ought to slow them down a bit. samj (talk) 13:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

The information has been taken from multiple sources, and it is good encyclopedic style (as well as polite) to cite them. I am by no means an expert, so it is my way of showing the reader that they are not relying on what I say, but on the observations of an expert. Perhaps they could be cut down a little- I will take a look at that now. J Milburn (talk) 17:56, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've cut it down a little- I do see what you mean, I just want to get the balance right between attributing the right statement to the right source (especially as two of them are offline sources) and keeping the paragraph uncluttered. J Milburn (talk) 18:01, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

What unconstructive edit did I make? Do not accuse me of vandalism, considering I have continually added quality work to Wikipedia. - I know see what you were referring to. Here's the problem...that wasn't my edit! Someone else blanked that section, not me. Why don't you look at what my actual edit was? It addedto the discussion. Therefore, STOP adding accusatory statements on my talk page that are not true. Do some research first, for godsake.--ECWAGuru (talk) 13:20, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I've looked again, and I now see the edit in question. I'm quite sure you will not believe me, but I don't know how that happened. I did not...I repeat...did not intentionally delete the comments on the talk page. My guess is that I intended to highlight something else of my own, and ended up deleting the wrong thing. Therefore, I apologize for the confusion.--ECWAGuru (talk) 13:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

The talk page has to remain, since that's where spamming notices and the block notice go; and theoretically, if he wanted to appeal the block, that's where he'd do so. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:37, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

redirects
You are partially correct. If you type in the search box, you're 100% correct. If you create a link in an article using the dotted i where only the link with an undotted i exists, you'll get a redlink. Try it. For some reason, more "smarts" are built in the search function than in the linking function. So I try to put make links. I have finished making the redirects for all the Azerbaijan articles I created beginning with a schwa, and those beginning with "E". Thanks again for helping out! Anonymous user deleting warnings
Hey there. As you have noticed, 74.7.3.202 keeps continuously deleting warnings from his talk page, and replacing them with insulting texts (nigg*r etc...). I have reported him twice to WP:AIV. Some bot called HBC AIV helperbot5 tells 1 IP left. rm 74.7.3.202 (blocked 31 hours by Gimmetrow (ACB))..
Still, I can't see him/her blocked. Any idea what's going on with the bot? Ilyushka88 (talk) 14:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for making a report about BortonKarl (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If they continue to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you! Edits are not vandalism. Please ensure recent edits constitute vandalism before re-reporting. the motives might be questionable but they are not vandalism by themselves. Try to contact the user maybe? -- lucasbfr talk 17:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- You are indeed right. I have left the user a warning about this behaviour. If that continues, he might be blocked as a sock because this smells bad indeed. -- lucasbfr talk 17:59, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Reply: Major (Swedish Armed Forces)
I really appreciate your point as it does indeed look weird! The Swedish military rankings system is absurd and leads to a great deal of confusion internationally. The absurdity is even recognized by the Swedish military and serious attempts to fix this are underway. My articles explain about the situation. I will do more efforts in explaining it further and add more information as the new system is being implemented.
Sergeant Major at Battalion, Brigade and Division level are responsible for the moral/administration/family matters/training of enlisted personnel and is the most senior officer in enlisted matters reporting to the respective commander. Holder of the rank of Kapten and Major have been seen as taking care of conscript personnel matters such as training/morale/administration at Swedish training centers and Head Quarters. The reason for this is the total abolishment of the NCO corps making all senior Non-Commissioned officers Kapten, Major and Overstelojtnant respectively. Fanrik and Lojtnant are basically junior NCOs. Thanks again :) --Malin Randstrom (talk) 03:27, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi.
Regarding the Arjun article. If you go the discussion page, you will find out that Chanakya engaged in a previous edit war for which he was almost blocked. He kept insisting on outdated information, whereas I quoted most up-to-date sources. I thought this was settled, but he apparently rested a while and came back again. He resumed citing old sources and data, which are no longer true. I am merely trying to revert to a version that was previously agreed upon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by By78 (talk • contribs) 23:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
There is a big difference b/w previous and present. I had not removed the report by the army to the parliamentary committee. Also all edit has been provided with sources. If By78 has any problem he can edit with sources, not with any vengeance (like many of his edits come with Another nail in the coffin, Deflating an Indian hot air bubble etc) as he is doing but in the real sense of contribution. I welcome that.Chanakyathegreat (talk) 02:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Arjun Tank...
Hi, maybe you can do something about the Arjun Tank article. Maybe you could lock it or block Chanakyathegreat from touching it for a while. Can you please compile the diffs that you're talking about? I'll review it and consider a short range block.--Tznkai (talk) 17:04, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- from what I can see of the user contributions:
- These are almost definitely the same user.
- This user probably doesn't understand the appropriate place for the contributions.
- This user is not evading a block via sockpuppeting, because I can't find any recent blocks to evade.
- This is not vandalism as such, but it is problematic.
- This user does not stick with any one IP for any significant duration.
- I suggest creating a topic at WP:ANI. The IP varies too much for me to feel comfortable doing a range block, but another administrator may have a good idea. If you elect to do so, I will report my findings there.

Hi, to link a category without adding the category to the talk page on which you link it, simply add a colon after the first set of double square brackets, like this: [[:Category:Foo]] which gives you Category:Foo. Hope this helps! KillerChihuahua?!? 22:46, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Sigh
When you put forth merge requests at pages like John Milton's early life, you are supposed to first discuss it on the talk page, second, find out what the page is about, third, see if there is a reason, and fourth, actually contact people. You did none of that, especially when the page was just started. Furthermore, seeing as how Milton is one of the most widely studied English poets, do your really think that his early life is not notable, especially when most other important scholars and poets have pages dedicated to their early lives? There is plenty of areas of the encyclopedia that need to be worked on, so why not do that instead of destroying pages without asking first? Ottava Rima (talk) 17:31, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- See Samuel Johnson's early life or Charles Darwin's education. WP:WEIGHT requires that a page describe items and aspects based on weight, and weight would leave less than 7k available for biographical data available on the John Milton page for his first 30 years because of the need to discuss his religious works, his political works, his political career, and his poetry. Seeing as how there are 1,000s of works discussing Milton's life, such a page is more than notable. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:59, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
New Page Patrolling
Hi there! I've been going through the New Pages log, particularly the back end of it. I've come across an article (DR Congo UN PROJECT 9th) that you've added a tag to that hasn't been patrolled. I was wondering if you could make sure that you mark an article as patrolled before you tag it as then it won't show up on the list, which will save people patrolling an article that has already been looked at by an experienced editor like yourself.
Please accept my apologies if you are doing this and the software is lagging behind, or if you're just tagging articles that you're coming across from a different source that doesn't allow you to patrol them. Thanks in advance! --Ged UK (talk) 08:07, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
