Multan

Hi, Ok if you removed the external links, then look at this link: multan.reemakhan.info It is not valid link, but still here because people are using name Multan in it. And you know Facebook.com/MultanCity is perfect information for any user if they come to social media profile page it is whole city tour in photos on this page, then why not we think to put that page on wikipedia?

I hope you understand my point. Thank you :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Likhary (talkcontribs) 22:00, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

My Edit of Scipio Africanus

HI: Thanks for your comments. I was just saying that he footnotes of the article are not correct either and when / if found time I would correct them.

Are you saying that I wrote notes a wrong section? I am sorry and will watch this in the past. It was just that when I did my edits he page asked me to explain them in detail. I thought I did so accurately in the box provided.

Please explain exactly where I was in error on leaving my explanatory notes so I know not to do that in future. Thanks Leeorp1Joe (talk) 16:30, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I hope I am adding my follow-up remarks correctly.

I do not agree that my edits were "not that helpful" as you stated. I explained the differences between quaestors and aediles, I stated that Scipio, as a patrician, must be a Curule Aedile, thus teaching that position in Ancient Rome were class based, I correctly stated that many of the statements in the article weren't in effect at the time of Scipio Africanus' life but came later during Sulla's dictatorship, and more. Don't you think these are important? Moreover, I pointed out that the 'Notes" section is a mess so that someone can fix it. However, it is Ok if we do not agree. That is what Wikipedia is about. I appreciate your comments. Leecorp1 (talk) 00:28, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, So I think I am adding my personal comments and answers to talk page messages to me correctly now, (For example this comment/response)? I have edited 3 of 4 articles so far and the 'Scipio Africanus' article is the only one where my changes were, what is the term, "reversed". 1. Was their anything in my changes that was factually wrong or were you just telling me that I was using the Wikip. system wrongly, which I do not doubt, and you did not change or reverse any of my stated facts. If I am correct, why are some of the changes I did missing? At least I think a few were deleted. 2. Ok, I know the 'TALK' page is for comments. What is the 'USER' page primarily used for? Thanks. Leecorp1 (talk) 20:27, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi: Right. All that was a mistake that won't happen again. That was my first edit and I think I got mixed up. I thought I was adding commentary in areas set aside for commentary (editorializing) and it is now evident that I was not. Now I see that you had to take out the personal stuff and try and keep my basic changes in. You did a good job b/c you kept most of my changes in the actual article. I am communicating with you correctly now, Right? Leecorp1 (talk) 21:11, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. So, do we add a colon ':' for every subsequent entry in a thread, so that if it is my first reply to a comment I add one,(:) my second two,(::) my third three (:::) an so on? Or, do we add three to all subsequent entries in threads? Here I am adding 3. ...Leecorp1 (talk) 21:30, 5 January 2014 (UTC) And what are the ellipses (...) I think I answered my question. The 3 colons was too large an indent and one was perfect. Another question. I went in an corrected the large indent. I should have previewed first but did not, (Sorry). Should I have done another thread entry or was it OK to add to this one causing it to have 2 time-day stamps?... Leecorp1 (talk) 21:39, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice

I had already started the talk page at Noguez, but didn't sign in with the 4 tildes. Better next time. 76.79.193.98 (talk) 17:22, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for closing. Please note Sydney Derby (cricket) was also in the same AfD. LibStar (talk) 14:31, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder. I missed that one. De728631 (talk) 14:59, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Thanks for reviewing Jonas Ödman, De728631.

Unfortunately Alanl has just gone over this page again and unreviewed it. Their note is:

This is thinly disguised resume and the subject has doubtful notability.

My apologies

My apologies for tagging an user talkpage for speedy deletion. I overlooked the fact that it was a user talkpage rather than the userpage, which if I remember correctly, can/will be deleted. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 09:00, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

No problem. Next time you may just blank the content and issue them a spam warning. De728631 (talk) 09:02, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Alright, thank you for the advice. Of course, I will only do that in clear-cut cases like that one. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 09:07, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Kumarason Chinnadurai

Shouldn't the old article move to his full name? Sportfan5000 (talk) 17:40, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Not necessarily. We're supposed to use the most common name in found in reliable English language sources. That's also why we have a redirect from William Jefferson Clinton to Bill Clinton. See WP:COMMONNAME. If this guy is mostly known by his stage name Kumar then that's what the article title should be. De728631 (talk) 17:45, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Got it, thank you. Sportfan5000 (talk) 17:47, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you so much for protecting Chris Alexander's page. There's been some issue with this one IP consistently removing content for little good reason. I have to admit, when Alexander first started going on the AfD page for his entry saying someone was conspiring against him, I thought he was being a bit of a nutter. I do think his accusations towards the AfD starter was unfounded, but apparently there is someone out there that wants to downplay what he's done. Not the person he was accusing, but apparently someone is out to troll him. 0.o In any case, hopefully this will deter them. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 13:12, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Indian campaign of Alexander the Great

I recently read the subject article, and I have never seen an article entry on Wikipedia with this sort of bad grammar, meandering narrative and personal opinions riddled with rhetorical questions? On top of this it has many historical errors. It should be removed and redone. At present, with work and all, I do not have the time. Is there anything else we can do? Considering how my first edit was scrutinized, and I erred by typing words in a wrong section but still did not produce anything like this, how did this article slip by and remain in the state it is in? You are the only 'editor' I know in Wikipedia so I come to you for assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leecorp1 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

I've had a look at it and I tend to agree with you. Especially the "Punjab" section needs a lot of attention. I've now added a lot of cleanup tags to the article so hopefully that will attract some editors to work on it. With the current length of the article and its state of referencing I don't see a chance for a successful deletion discussion to start the article from scratch. So all we can do is work on the article. But I'm quite busy with other things so I won't be of any help there. De728631 (talk) 07:45, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
OK, I will try also. Question, I called you an 'editor'. Are you actually an official editor, or is everyone an "editor" who edits a wiki-page there being no "official editors? Leecorp1 (talk) 21:24, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Kira Kosarin's article that you've reviewed

Hey, what seems to be the issue? I cited all of the sources right after the opening sentence. There are many reputable sources from which I cited and added(even if just as bare URLs). I requested access to edit The Thundermans page to link to her page to resolve the other issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BirthOfJesus (talkcontribs) 21:52, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

The problem here is not so much the number of sources you added, but their quality. They're either not reliable sources like Youtube and IMDB, or they qualify as primary sources like interviews and newsfeeds. What we need to demonstrate notability is in-depth coverage by secondary sources, i.e. reliable sources that are independent of the article's subject like nation-wide newspapers and magazine or TV channels.
Additionally this is really short stub article of one line while proper biographical articles should ideally contain more information about the person's professional background like training, past roles in notable series or movies, etc. As it stands, the current article should rather be redirected to The Thundermans. De728631 (talk) 22:27, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

You had no right to delete my Wikipedia account

You know you shouldn't have deleted my account http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_D_(Kuwaiti_rapper) it is a recreation of a page that now fulfills the music notability guidelines I have valid references that allow my page to stay on Wikipedia news articles, over a million views on YouTube, shows on news channels, a collaboration with young noble a group member of the Outlawz a crew that Tupac Shakur the worlds best rapper formed, music contracts, discussions, shows for the american army troops and much much more. I'm a 100% legitimate and I was clearly told before when I can pass the music notability guidelines I can recreate the page. And it was operating fine for the past year or so till you deleted it without knowing how much work we put into making it legit. You had no right at all to delete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.209.237.41 (talk) 00:51, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Please read about how Wikipedia defines reliable sources. Youtube and the sources you provided in your latest article were far from being reliable and the article itself was almost a verbatim copy of the previous version that had been deleted in the course of a deletion discussion. That is why your latest article was deleted. And apart from that, writing your own biography on Wikipedia is generally frowned upon and should not be done without great scrutiny. Please see WP:AUTOBIO and WP:COI for this matter. If you are a truly notable musician someone else will eventually write an article about you. De728631 (talk) 18:16, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

I did not write that article about myself I knew the rules that you shouldn't write about yourself it was not a copy/pasted version of the deleted one I had people spend a lot of time putting it together all I did was give them the info they asked for and helped upload it. Before they asked me for a news article I had someone write a full article about me VIA Arab Times and referenced it. I have live shows over 5,000 american soldiers attended, I appear on TV regularly news channels like Al Watan in Kuwait, and a worldwide fanbase and the last time they asked me all I needed was to do a song with someone more recognized and known therefore I did it with Young Noble I've seen articles way less sources then mine which are still not deleted for ages and had poor unverifiable content that still operate on Wikipedia so how come mine is removed? Especially when we have been trying over 3 years getting the sources to be accepted and put hard work to have it notable. In conclusion the account was legit it had enough notable content and all of them with references it should have not been deleted. I would really appreciate if you returned it and reconsidered. I would highly be thankful if it was returned because we put so much hard work in that article for over 3 years and put the best effort countless times to be accepted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.209.237.41 (talk) 07:03, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

It doesn't matter whether you wrote the article yourself or had other people working for you. The latter is called meat puppetry and is not allowed. Wikipedia is not meant for promoting yourself by writing what might look like an acceptable article. And having someone write a press article in the Arab Times just to create a newsfeed in an otherwise reliable source does not count either. What we need is independent in-depth coverage in secondary sources that are not affiliated at all with the subjects of our articles. If you still think the latest version of your article should be restored, please list it at WP:Deletion review, but I'm not going to restore the last version.
As to your user account, we can't have two accounts with two very similar names that refer to a living person. That is why I blocked both User:Big D Kuwaiti Rapper and User:Big D Kuwait. If you operate either of these accounts, you can request to be unblocked by following the instructions left on the user talk pages of the accounts. But please note that you usually must only operate one account at a time. Having several accounts is actually possible on Wikipedia, but it's not allowed to use them for creating and editing autobiographies. De728631 (talk) 16:36, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Please note I did not use Arab Times or any source without having to work hard, I have to be very recognized in Kuwait in order for me to be on Arab Times they wrote the article because I'm the most credible hip hop artist in kuwait. I would like to inform you Kuwait has a population for barely over 1 million people we are a small country so if you go and check in my YouTube page I have a total over 1 million views that is like the whole country listening to my music. This is not a ego game or me starting a "being conceited" contest I'm just explaining that I am notable enough to have my page back. I read over the deletion page you said to visit and they wrote it is highly recommended to solve the issue with you first and I'm very respectfully trying to tell you I'm not familiar with Wikipedia I barely knew how to speak to you here people wrote my article all I did was provide them with details they needed. I'm not using Wikipedia for promotion google "Big D Kuwaiti Rapper" you'll see I already have enough promotion that is not my goal. I really speak honestly 3 years back and forth my page has been deleted and I've seen with my own eyes people with 80% less notable articles that never been deleted. I really do not understand I have newspaper articles written about me furthermore a collaboration with Young Noble a group member of Outlawz a group that 2pac himself formed. Performances on military bases like Camp Arifjan appearances on News TV Channels such as Al Watan a performance with DJ Smallz featured on Kuwait's best blogs and music portals presently I'm Kuwait's most credible Hip Hop artist to date with aspirations of bringing world wide acclaim to Hip Hop in the Middle East and I started by creating my crew KGR {Kuwait Got Rhymes}. I have been making music since 1999 and stayed relevant by producing quality music time and again. So please reconsider I'm notable enough to be on Wikipedia. It's New Years Eve I hope we can return it keep in mind it has been 3 years I been getting deleted and I would highly value if you accepted it this time. I wish you can reconsider. I would be very appreciative if you did the user pages I don't even know anything about them I don't care if they are gone but the article is what I hope to have back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.209.237.41 (talk) 08:15, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

As I said above, please list your article at WP:Deletion review so the community of editors can decide about it. De728631 (talk) 13:41, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Deleting my article from Wikpedia brought bad news to people about Wikipedia http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/deletionpedia-wikipedia-deleted-articles/ according to The Daily Dot the hometown newspaper of the World Wide Web, in the last paragraphs of the article you can see they mentioned me because I was considered not notable. Then why would the news write about me if I wasn't notable and well known? I have never even contacted them just found this on google. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.39.76.56 (talk) 11:17, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

The Daily Dot mentioned your deleted article in passing in one single editorial piece, i.e. they did NOT write in detail about your exploits as a musician. So that's still not what Wikipedia calls notability. And Wikipedia is also not meant to promote you to become notable so the news will eventually cover your exploits. It's always the other way round. Once you can provide multiple reliable and independent sources like album reviews by reliable published magazines or feature articles in the news, then someone may create an article about you. Wikipedia:Non-free content review discussions at ANRFC

Hi De728631. I noticed that you are experienced FfD closer. Would you consider helping with the backlog at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure#NFCR discussion needing closure (permanent link) regarding Wikipedia:Non-free content review discussions? You made a really good call at WP:ANI#Carlossuarez46 mass-creating articles. That was a complicated situation and you had a brilliant solution. I've done a lot of dispute resolution but I doubt I could come up with such a good compromise. -- Atama 23:12, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Battle of Mutina

I wanted to add references and source authority to this article but.... as a new wiki-pediac, I do not know how. Can you tell me in a short paragraph or so, or tell me where to go. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leecorp1 (talkcontribs) 01:25, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

I just responded to your response to this question (above) on my talk page where your response was. Again, I am a long time Wikipedia reader but a short term 'editor'. Question, do you, P-1 (the impersonal 'you') automatically get notified when someone, like me, P-2 post something on their, P-2's, Talk Page in response to some message P-1 has left there? That is, would you know to answer my questions I just left on my Talk Page even if I had not left this message here telling you about it? Leecorp1 (talk) 01:13, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Carlossuarez46 mass-creating articles

Re your closure,

"I'm closing this thread I'm also urging Carlossuarez46 to voluntarily cease his article creations until such time he has gained approval by consensus. Any continuation by Carlossuarez46 would appear like making a point"

He was asked to stop before the ANI thread, and during it he has been asked to stop many more times - and he has refused to do so. That's why it was at ANI. Are you saying if he carries on, he'll be blocked? Or are you just "asking" him? What's the point of ANI, other than to enforce rules?

Your closure is not clear. Are admins prepared to actually do anything other than offering platitudes?

If he carries on, should I start a new ANI thread?

Or are you saying there's nothing wrong, and he doesn't need to do anything? 88.104.19.233 (talk) 00:19, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm just a lurker, but just to remind you that WP:POINT references disrupting Wikipedia to make a point. That means that further creation of these articles before gaining permission through consensus would be seen as disruption, and dealt with accordingly. That can range anywhere from a strong warning (at least to start) to a block or a ban (which itself of course could lead to a block if violated). My hope is that it won't get that far of course, but no, the closing of that thread is much more than "platitudes". -- Atama 02:30, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
I think Atama has already explained it. Any further creation of such articles may be considered disruptive and can be dealt with accordingly. The ANI discussion was closed though because there was no consensus among admins and other editors to immediately restrain Carlossuarez from his mass creations. You're free to open another discussion at WP:BRFA to determine whether such creations require approval or not, but the ANI discussion has shown that it is not clear at all whether he was violating WP:MASSCREATION or not because the opionions differ on how this policy should be interpreted. User:Mzverrecas

Hi De728631, I noticed your temp block of Mzverrecas for vandalism. Not sure how you feel about this, but as a non-admin, I'd like to propose an indef, since she's obviously not here to be constructive, and she's got another account, Princess Verrecas, that also appears to be here entirely for vanity purposes and self-promotion, for example in the deleted AfC, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Princess_Verrecas and the speedily deleted Princess Verrecas. Take care! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:53, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Now that's interesting, I wasn't aware of this older account. I'm going to indef them both. And thank you for notifying me. De728631 (talk) 16:57, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome! I had my eye on them and I was sort of waiting for Princess to make a move before going to SPI. Anyhow, righteous teamwork! Thanks for the assist. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:05, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Hey De, this doesn't appear to be a big deal, but I noticed some IP activity flare up on this user's sandbox here. It's minor and they don't seem to have edited anything else, but I thought I'd mention it. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello. From your reversal of your A10 speedy deletion request at Наташа Петровиќ, I'm guessing you noticed it had already been changed, three days earlier, to redirect to the existing article. Artemis Networks Deletion

Hi De728631,

Recently you decided to delete the page Artemis Networks. I'd like to know why, and discuss restoring it. I have not had this happen before so I'm new to the process. First of all, why was it deleted, exactly? --OKNoah (talk) 05:38, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. The page was deleted because you did not credibly indicate the importance or significance of this specific company. There are thousands of network providers around the world and that means to have an entry in an encyclopedia like Wikipedia, there must be something special about Artemis Networks that distinguishes it from other companies of its kind. This is best done by providing multiple independent and reliable references that cover the subject of an article in-depth. This would also exclude references to the company's own websites or affiliated newsfeeds.
If you can provide some secondary sources that have covered Artemis Networks, like feature articles in magazines or independent articles about some special product that is unique to Artemis, then I would consider restoring the page. Such secondary sources would also help to pass the threshold of notability. De728631 (talk) 15:23, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi there. I will have no problem at all finding secondary sources. Artemis has gotten a lot of press because some people feel they have broken physical laws related to data transmission. Could you please advise me on how to retrieve the article so I can continue working on it? Thank you. --OKNoah (talk) 16:00, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Well, I see you've already recreated a new version of the article with new references. I think this looks ok now, so let's wait and see what other editors think of it. De728631 (talk) 19:04, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Deleting pictures

So you deleted the picture my colleague sent me of a canine venereal tumour. I still don't know what magical evidence you want me to provide. She sent me the file by email for the express reason of including it on Wikipedia. I stated as much in the form I filled out when I uploaded.Garble (talk) 19:33, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately we cannot accept good faith in case of copyright, i.e. we need solid proof from the author of any media that they are willing to release their work under a free license. So a statement by the uploader is just not sufficient. Please ask your colleague to send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org as outlined in this guideline. Once your colleague has sent this email, please feel free to reupload the image and add the string {{OTRS pending}} to the usual description on the file page. De728631 (talk) 21:46, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Can't be arsed. If you want me to jump through bureaucratic hoops that's your own indaba. Garble (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

In this case, please complain to the Wikimedia Foundation. De728631 (talk) 22:00, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

User:Upperhouse01 blocked, Junior Writers Awards page deleted

Hi Cyphoidbomb, De728631, I was blocked, since you think I am doing some Advertisement or Promotion. But I would like to let you know the Junior Writer Awards is hosted by Norton House Global Education Initiative - a non-governmental organization (NGO). We would like to get more people knows it is a charity event for all students in Hong Kong and Macau (may be more countries next year). They all free to join. No hidden charge. JWA is a multi countries and high level English literacy competition. Some of the advisors and judges are very famous in Hong Kong and Macau. Some of them are government officials. I hope you can understand the Events and guide us to do well in Wiki. Please unblock me and restore the related doc. Thanks

I'm sorry but I'm not going to unblock User:Upperhouse01 for the reasons Cyphoidbomb has already explained at that talkpage. Instead I will also block your new account Gordonreg because you created it to circumvent your first block of the Upperhouse01 account. Blocking of Wikipedia accounts does not refer to accounts and passwords to the user behind the name, i.e. you. Once any of your accounts have been blocked from editing you must not create alternative accounts to edit Wikipedia again. You may however follow the unstructions at User talk:Upperhouse01 where it says how to use the {{unblock}} option. This will prompt another administrator to review your unblock request there. What I would like to add in reply to the news links you posted above is that the CMP article only mentions the event "Junior Writers Award" in passing and instead focuses on portraying the winner and his story. And unfortunately I don't speak and read Chinese so I can't assess the Macao Daily. Up to now it still looks like you are only interested in promoting your cause instead of writing an encyclopedical article about a notable event. De728631 (talk) 19:34, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
User:Gordonreg have made an unblock request and restore the Junior Writers Awards Wiki Page. I just want to create a Junior Writers Awards Event information in Wiki. The event was initiated by Norton House Global Education Initiative (Non-governmental organization - NGO). It is a Charity Event between Hong Kong and Macau. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.203.212.2 (talk) 06:43, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi De728631! I would like to propose/endorse an unblock of the Gordonreg account. The original account, Upperhouse01 was blocked for a username violation for self-representing as a group, which is a totally legit reason to block. (Pretty sure I nommed the account for indef myself). But if the user comes back as an individual, even if they have a COI, I don't think that exactly qualifies as sockpuppetry, since they were essentially forced out over a technicality. Also, my motivation for having the Upperhouse account blocked was because they kept forcing promotional content into the article. The Gordonreg account recreated the article in a far less offensive style, so I would propose that they had learned their lesson and were behaving differently from the Upperhouse01 account. Dem's my thoughts! :D Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:39, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Upperhouse01 was blocked for promotional edits in the first place and although they were immediately given advice how to request an unblock they chose to create a new account instead to rewrite their article. I agree though that the second article was much better in terms of quality and neutrality, and that is why I decided not to delete it myself on first sight. Instead I flagged it for speedy deletion, and obviously another admin agreed that this article and its creator were in fact a case of sockpuppetry and/or meatpuppetry. That said, a third and uninvolved admin has already declined the unblock request.
The article, however, has now been restored and moved to the userspace of Gordonreg (User:Gordonreg/Junior Writers Awards) but its submission to the live article space has still been declined for lack of notability. As the whole event only started this year it may simply be too soon to have an encyclopedical article about it. Once the Junior Writers Awards prove to be a regular and well-covered event we can write an article about it, but currently it doesn't seem to be a valid subject. That said, there's not a lot I can do right now. De728631 (talk) 17:29, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi there - please can you restore this PROD you deleted? I would do it myself but I don't want to step on any toes. He meets WP:NFOOTBALL; I have just expanded the article about his brother so should have some more information to add. GiantSnowman 19:35, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Housekeeping after Kosovo move

Hi, I had trouble finding the RM discussion for Kosovo. Talk:Kosovo#Move_discussion_in_progress said it was at Talk:Kosovo; I added a note that this had moved to Talk:Kosovo (region).

As you moved the talk page,[1] please can you add links to Talk:Republic of Kosovo/Archive 4 and previous, at the head of Talk:Kosovo? At the moment the latter page links to the archived pages which are now at Talk:Kosovo (region).

Should you delete the redirects for each archive page Talk:Kosovo/Archive 1 to 30, and then move the archived pages from "Republic"?

I think both talk pages need {{oldmove}} or similar.

Moreover, Talk:Kosovo seems to include bot instructions to carry on archiving that page to Talk:Republic of Kosovo/Archive%. WP:RMAI includes a reminder to update this.

Hope this helps, – Fayenatic London 15:26, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Alright, I think I've now finished the required cleanup, i.e. I've moved the archive pages, deleted misleading redirects and fixed archiving instructions for the bots. Please let me know if you find anything else that needs attention. De728631 (talk) 20:16, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
Ah, thanks; looks good. – Fayenatic London 21:15, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Question

Hi. I was curious. Is there any way you can protect a page? I have never asked this before from an administrator but there is persistent vandalism on the Pacific Rim (film) page by a bunch of IP numbers from California. Basically Pacific Rim was a box office flop at the US box office grossing less than $102 million on a $190 million budget and lasting just one week in the top five. I even supplied a citation from Forbes which marveled at the fact this film did so poorly in the US but so strongly overseas. And this is a legitimate factual statement. But this particular person keeps changing it to "moderately successful" over and over again and even deleting the citation that I put up. In other words replacing legit info with misinformation and removing a citation that backs that legit info up because they seem to be a fan of the film. The IP numbers are 74.85.101.4, 166.137.210.16, 166.137.210.21 . It must be the same person (the first IP number seems to be from a place of employment). Since I can't spend multiple hours a day cleaning this crap up and the moment I warn one of them a similar IP does an edit seconds later, I was wondering if it was possible for a brief lock.Giantdevilfish (talk) 17:37, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

EDIT. I just checked and it seems that some other editors have got my back reverting these edits. I hope this is enough.Giantdevilfish (talk) 17:39, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Ok. If it gets worse, please ask at WP:RFP. De728631 (talk) 18:34, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Afternote

Hi De728631,

I noticed you deleted the article Afternote, but I would like to know why? It was written completely objective and only facts were told. I would like to get the chance to adjust the text if you can explain what I have to adjust. I would like to add that Afternote is completely free to use. I'm wondering why an article about Facebook isn't advertising and an article about Afternote is. Can you tell me the difference?

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi there. I deleted this page not so much because it was promotional but because you did not provide any reliable sources to show why this particular brand is significant enough to have an article in an encyclopedia. Significance is the first test for our articles. As to comparing it to Facebook, I won't say that size matters but you might want to provide reliable sources that are independent of Afternote to show how this service is special in comparison to others of its kind. And I'm afraid a simple link to their website is not sufficient to back up any such claims. Another threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is notability. Just because something exists it doesn't mean that we need to write about it. We need proof of repeated in-depth and independent coverage by media such as IT magazines or news. If you can provide any such sources I'm willing to restore your article at Articles for creation so you can work on it before it goes to the live article space. How about that?
By the way, when you write on a talk page like this, please sign your contributions by typing four tilde characters ~~~~. This will add your username and a timestamp for reference. De728631 (talk) 20:01, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Invitation to Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle-earth

Hi there,

thank you for your invitation of last year to work on Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle-earth. However, a cursory look at J. R. R. Tolkien's influences showed me there would be so much to do to clean up even that short page that I would rather use my time with other Tolkien-related wiki-projects. As long as authors like David Day are quoted or the so-called Tolkien-Wiki at Wikia.com are referenced there is no help for this venture, I am sorry to say. All the best, --M.Buelles (talk) 02:45, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Well, I didn't say that this project was particularly active these days. ;) And sources like Wikia shouldn't be used at all, so I think I'm going to give the "influences" a thorough checkup. But what is it with David Day? If you think he's unreliable when it comes to assessing Tolkien, please feel free to remove the relevant passages. Actually that's also why we need more input here from experts like you, namely to improve our articles step by step. De728631 (talk) 18:52, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks

for this edit. I'm afraid I've found that editor hard to satisfy, and the demand that a text's title be translated was one of the things that made me walk away for a little while. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:07, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Welcome. When I meet this kind of request I always try to not only translate the title but include some relevant quotation from the original source text too. But in case of that conference speech I couldn't find anything online. I have, however, been thinking of asking you for help with the Old Swedish part, but in the end some thorough googling left with me with what I think is a good result. De728631 (talk) 12:41, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
I had translated the actual cited passage - I'm not sure why that wasn't enough. I don't know whether you've been following this saga, but after trying to explain at Talk:Kvenland and then to satisfy the large number of tags at the other article - I decided to apologise to the editor for not reaching his standard and to go do non-Finnish stuff for a while. I hope he's kinder about your efforts. Between Finnedi and him, this hobby was causing me rather too much stress. Sorry to be such a wimp, as well as again revealing the limits of my local college library. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:02, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Oh, right. I think I'm recalling somewhat of Finnedi's Saga from ANI. As to translated passages, Charles' title as king of the Swedes, Goths and Wends was alright, but I think there was some demand for excerpts from that Austrian source. Personally I doubt that there's anything to learn from translated titles of publications but then that's the same kind of request that uses to pop up at non-English album track lists etc. De728631 (talk) 13:11, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Non-English titles in the Paenitentiale Bedae page

Thanks for your comment and corrections on the Paenitentiale Bedae page, De728631. In answer to your question, there are a number of important versions of this penitential for which there is no established English title; the standard titles ('Vorstufe'; 'Paenitentiale additivum'; etc.) remain in German and Latin principally because the subject has so far only received serious attention from German scholars, and only in articles and studies aimed at specialists (rather than a general, non-Latinate audience). But you are right: an English wiki page needs English titles. So I am going to take a stab at creating some, based on your preliminary suggestions. Thanks for getting me thinking about this! Hey - thanks for reviewing my tag of File:Govinda raj.jpg, which I tagged as having no source. I must have missed the bit sourcing the image to the book the photo resides in. However, I still believe the image is a copyright violation, and have listed it at WP:PUF at Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2014_May_30#File:Govinda_raj.jpg, if you wish to take a look. Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents

It's the most prominent noticeboard for urgent requests, and on this occasion the protection may be more harmful than the edits it is intended to prevent. Could you please remove the protection? Peter James (talk) 22:46, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

The protection was set to expire automatically after four hours which it did today at 00:51 UTC. I wouldn't have protected the ANI board for any extended period anyway. As to the harmfulness, this seems to have been a recurring event and the board is frequently protected for various reasons, so short inconveniences for IP editors and newly registered accounts are actually nothing new – if undesirable nonetheless. De728631 (talk) 19:34, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Question

You closed a request I made at the AN board. The issue seemed to be the timing of the appeal. What is the appropriate time period to wait before raising such an appeal? Useitorloseit (talk) 21:37, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

It was not a only a timing issue. Afaik there is no distinct waiting period for topic bans instated by the community to be appealed, but you raised this appeal right after you had been banned without giving any valid reasons to lift the ban (N.B.: bans enacted by the Arbitration Committee can only be appealed after a period of one year). It has also been explained to you that there wouldn't be any difference whether you voluntarily refrained from editing certain topics or were banned from editing them. So unless there were any formal shortcomings or otherwise deficient decisions in the discussion that resulted in your ban, there's nothing you could do right now. I suggest you make another appeal after some three months and try to convince the community that your edits in that area of interest won't be problematic any more. De728631 (talk) 17:52, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Nyttend, why did you remove my comment?

Just saw your edit summary; I'm sorry. I got into an edit conflict, and the diff was puzzling — it didn't show any comments by anyone else, so I figured that I'd gotten it because (like happens sometimes when editing my sandbox) I'd hit "enter" twice. I had no idea whatsoever that anyone else was editing, let alone that I was removing another comment. Nyttend (talk) 04:39, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Ah, I see. That's not a problem then and thanks for clarifying this. De728631 (talk) 04:49, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Sharapova

I'm a little confused by the goings on. You deleted the user page and talk page didn't you? Then it was recreated. I did a G3 speedy delete request, but the page still exists. Regardless we can't have a page with that title even it's empty, right? --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 18:52, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

I deleted it just to make room for a block notice. The user account of that name exists anyway and so it will be found by search engines, too. Therefore I'd say having the associated talk page doesn't matter much. It also shows that Wikipedia took care of the situation by blocking the account. De728631 (talk) 19:00, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
PS: DeltaQuad has now also revdeleted the previous versions of the page so the profane stuff is no longer publicly visible except for the title. De728631 (talk) 19:04, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I sincerely trust you know better than I do of such matters. It seems to me the title is, in and of itself, a WP:BLP violation. But if there's nothing more than can be effectively done, then I'm cool, but she probably wouldn't appreciate running across that page too much. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 19:08, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, now that the block message has been displayed for a while I think we can also zap the page. G3 is still applicable. De728631 (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

When you delete files as F8, you may only delete those revisions of the file which have been moved to Commons, see WP:CSD#F8. In this case, you deleted both the high-resolution image and the low-resolution image, but only the low-resolution image was moved to Commons, and the high-resolution image contains data not on Commons. The easiest way to move old revisions of files to Commons is to use toollabs:magog/oldver.php. --Stefan2 (talk) 15:32, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Problem editor returns

An editor you blocked for edit warring last year (his talk page User talk:190.162.52.196) has returned under a different IP, making the same edits to the same articles. He was blocked twice in total although his old blocks have expired. Is he breaking a sockpuppetry rule or do I revert his edits and risk getting into another edit war with him? He was also abusive. I'm not sure what to do. Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:16, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

This edit [2] specifically removes the fact being sourced in the reference I put in the last time he edit-warred over this exact same point. Pure troublemaking, surely? Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:31, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
You also blocked another IP he used to evade his other block (talk page User talk:200.120.211.239), and there's another personal attack on there as well. I'm concerned that if I engage with this guy, we're going to have the same results. Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:15, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry but for Jeremy Spencer you need to discuss the matter at the article's talk page before any administrative sanctions can be issued. The various blocks have long since worn off, so there is no block evasion. Also I'm not sure if they were rude here (see Meta:Don't be a dick but I'm going to warn them about edit warring at USS Vincennes (CG-49). De728631 (talk) 13:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
OK, I've reverted him at three articles and asked him to establish a consensus for his changes on the talk pages. What should I do when if he reverts me? Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:01, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
If the IP reverts you, please report them at the edit warring notice board explaining the long-term behaviour; I might not be around in time to handle this myself. I have now warned them to dicuss their edits (which have already begun at User talk:Denisarona, so let's see how this continues. De728631 (talk) 14:05, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
OK, will do. Thanks for your help. Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:22, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

I don't have time to go to AN3 right now but he's reverted sourced fact here after I asked him to discuss [3] (the one you specifically mentioned when you spoke to him) and here after I asked him to discuss [4]. He's also edit warred removing sourced info here [5], and also blatant edit warring with other editors here [6], and here [7]. He will clearly never stop edit warring. I might get a chance to report him at AN3 later but if you get the chance first, you might want to do something yourself. Bretonbanquet (talk) 11:35, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Alright, I've issued a temporary block. While some of these edits may have been justified it's the general battleground attitude and WP:IDHT that makes this user not very constructive at all. De728631 (talk) 11:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Exactly, with him there's no discussion, no compromise possible. It's his way or the highway. I agree that some of his edits are justified, but he will never meet anyone in the middle. I have formulated compromises on wording in three or four cases – but his behaviour is effectively bullying, particularly as he chooses certain articles which I edit, and which he admits he knows nothing about. He is clearly not not here to build an encyclopedia. Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:51, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

matches 2014/2015

i see you have deleted my page "matches season 2014/2015" as you stated it is a duplicate of a page already.....this is not true. NWCFL 2014/2015 covers ONLY league games and shows only the league table and a very brief result grid. My page would have had report links, scorers, a chart of the league positions, and it would have covered all games...preseaaon, league and cups. an example of a similar page can be seen on "2013–14_Leicester_City_F.C._season" which shows exactly the same info as i was going to provide for my team, Glossop, so why is mine deleted and Leicester City's page is not. Please re activate my page as i sent a long time on it and i have had many compliments from fellow Glossop fans saying how useful it would be. brgds Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by GNEbandit (talkcontribs) 23:51, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Please note that Wikipedia only covers notable events like league games and cup events — and this only if other reliable media have also reported about it. I'm sorry, but Wikipedia is not a directory, so minor events like preseason matches and other games played by non-professional clubs would hardly qualify for their own article. The page you created did not expand beyond the tabulated information at 2014–15 North West Counties Football League, so I tagged it for speedy deletion and another administrator chose to delete it. Please note also that we must not use non-free images in such articles. The club logos you used there have been uploaded here under a fair use rationale and can only be used in articles about the clubs as such.
So, I'm afraid I won't restore your article as it was but I can recreate a modified version without the logos at Articles for creation. That's a sort of laboratory where editors can work on draft articles before they go live. These submissions will require review by other, experienced editors who may eventually launch your article to the live article space. So how does that sound? De728631 (talk) 17:22, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
PS: I just noticed that you recreated another article of this sort which was deleted again, so that's another reason for me not to restore it in article space. De728631 (talk) 17:27, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

i would appriciate if you did recreate this page, and i'm happy to have it without the teams logos.....i only did that to pretty it up. to have a page with all the season's matches on (pre/regular/cup/league) with scorers, attendances and all the rest of the info pertaining to the matches would be great, because like i said, the 2014–15 North West Counties Football League page only has the very basic info, and to be able to chronicle this info on WIKI (like the league teams do) would be historical important....especially as i see Glossop advancing up the leagues over the next few years, and to show where they came from would be great. many thanks for your help. please let me know when it is up and running so i may take control of it. Chris (oh, the other page was a skeleton of a working page i started last night, but didn't have time to finish....it would have been very similar to what you have proposed) --GNEbandit (talk) 18:11, 11 July 2014 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by GNEbandit (talkcontribs) 18:05, 11 July 2014 (UTC)--GNEbandit (talk) 18:11, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

I have restored the page at Draft:2014–15 Glossop North End A.F.C. season. That's not yet a full article so you can continue editing it before you request a review and ask for the article to be created from the draft. When you think you're ready, you can submit your draft by clicking the link in the purple box on that page.

Note that I have posed a question at WT:FOOTY, asking if there is a level at which they would normally cut off individual season articles (for example, I was asked why a Premier League team would have a season article but not a Level 9 team). --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:06, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, deprodded

Die Swart Luiperd is a thing (and even apparently has a moonlighting literary author involved); this should go to AfD. I'm going to bed after I talk to the editor who created it; I'll search for better sources later. Apologies. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:55, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

No problem. I was trying to read through it (after all, Afrikaans is so close to Dutch and German that I can actually understand a fair bit) but I didn't find the article to be very convincing in terms of notability. I'd say if it doesn't get translated within the regular two weeks I'll AfD it anyway. De728631 (talk) 20:59, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. You were actually thanking me for the deprod while I was apologising here, LOL. Popular culture of previous eras tends to be problematic, and I can't really read Afrikaans, I just found a non-RS saying exactly what I thought it had said. But Venter's moonlighting as a writer of pulp fiction is fascinating. Surely there is something online by some scholar noting this, although it is in neither our article on him nor the Afrikaans article. So I'm hoping I can save this. Please restore List of songs recorded by Kesha

Please restore it, as the discography page doesn't fully cover album tracks and b-sides, etc, it just covers albums, singles and album tracks that have charted. If what you're saying is true, why is there a List of songs recorded by Katy Perry, when Katy Perry discography also exists - please reconsider and let me improve it. All images deleted

Dear De728631, I'm LubnaMR the author of the content page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ditta_Cugini_Randi

I'm little new to Wikimedia/Wikipedia so may be I made some mistakes. I am the owner of all the original, old picture. Most of them very old and in b/w. There are no negatives, only my prints. Since many people are asking about the Ditta Cugini Randi products, that after 40 years also operate very well despite the ages, I decided to publish some text and upload a scan of my prints. I sent an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org granting them the permission for some pictures. How can I grant the permission for all the pictures involved? I'd like to get the chance for other peoples who knows Ditta Cugini Randi to see some of the pictures I own

Sorry for my mistake and thanks a lot LubnaMR — Preceding unsigned comment added by LubnaMR (talkcontribs) 10:48, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

De, got a totally tangential question for you. Can you do better than me in searching for Gerald Krutzler, author of "Kult und Tabu", a book on Boniface? I got the book, but I need the man: job, academic affiliation, email address. I know he studied in Vienna with Walter Pohl, and that's about all I know... Maybe you are smarter in searching for Germans than I am. I hope so. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 20:27, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes, but that criterion is only valid together with a promotional and spammy tone. A bad style of writing itself is not a reason fo speedy deletion, but it should be fixed by editing the article. script-title

With this edit you reverted a Monkbot task 6 edit and left this edit summary: This addition is only an option in case a romanized |title= is also present in the citation. It is not required if |title= contains non-Latin.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. Yeah, |script-title= is not required in the same way that most Citation Style 1 parameters are not required. |script-title= is always an option. It is designed to hold titles that are written in non-Latin script. This is true even when |title= is missing or empty. When both are used, |script-title= holds the title in its original writing system form and |title= holds a romanized transliteration of the title.

In this case it doesn't really matter because {{cite web}} renders the content of |title= in an upright font. Other CS1 templates, however, render |title= in italicized font which is inappropriate for non-Latin writing systems (even though it is usually technically possible to do so). As an example, were we to convert Noriyuki to use {{cite book}}, this is what we get were we to use |title=鯨史稿 巻之六 in the first, and |script-title=ja:鯨史稿 巻之六 in the second:

  1. 鯨史稿 巻之六 (in Japanese). The Kyushu University Museum. Archived from the original on 2012-03-09. Retrieved 2 June 2012. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)
  2. 鯨史稿 巻之六 (in Japanese). The Kyushu University Museum. Archived from the original on 2012-03-09. Retrieved 2 June 2012. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)

The rest that you don't see, is in the underlying wikimarkup that is output by Module:Citation/CS1:

  1. [//web.archive.org/web/20120309144448/http://record.museum.kyushu-u.ac.jp/kujira/geisiko/6/geisiko6.html ''鯨史稿 巻之六'' [''Noriyuki's six-volume manuscript of whaling'']]
  2. [//web.archive.org/web/20120309144448/http://record.museum.kyushu-u.ac.jp/kujira/geisiko/6/geisiko6.html <bdi lang="ja" >鯨史稿 巻之六</bdi> [''Noriyuki's six-volume manuscript of whaling'']]

In the first, standard external link wikimarkup. In the second, again standard external link wikimarkup but without the italics and with <bdi>...</bdi> (bi-directional isolate). While this tag isn't really needed here because Japanese in Wikipedia is a left-to-right language, it does no harm and also serves as a way to communicate the title's language to our browsers.

Ok, too much information, so summary: |script-title= is optional but highly recommended for all titles that do not use Latin-based alphabets; |title= is not required when |script-title= is used, but if a romanized transliteration is available, that goes in |title=.

I suspect that the documentation for |script-title= is what led you astray. Do you have any recommendations about how I could make it more understandable?

I also suspect that History of whaling is on your watch list. You might want to look at the links to kyushu-u.ac.jp as they seem to have gone 404.

Trappist the monk (talk) 23:52, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. While I saw that the citation template did work with |script-title= I wasn't aware of the different markup output. But this type of change is in fact useful in terms of a general bot edit.
As to the documentation, I think it should include a hint that |script-title= is also the preferred choice as a single title parameter because it improves the template output.
And thank you, too, for pointing me at the broken link in History of whaling. I'm going to check if I can fix that. De728631 (talk) 17:26, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents

In response to your closing there, I made no allegations of socking but did so of meatpuppetery. I stand by that I was right to be suspicious of this being a possibility although am sure that they are not a meatpuppet after this discussion. Gabriel Turner (talk) 20:01, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Ok, technically it would've been meatpuppetry and I can see what made you think there was something fishy going on. But then these two terms are mostly synonymous when it comes to describing the result. And after checking the circumstances and the discussion I agree with you there was no such sock-/meatpuppetry going on. That's why I closed the thread instead of leaving more room for investigations. Anyhow, your ANI report did had a positive side-effect which was this IP getting blocked for their legal threats. De728631 (talk) 09:15, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

ummm

How can I talk to neatfoot?? This is very confusing to me because when I try to talk back...I get directed to this page. and yes--I do admit to disrupting wikipedia to make a point..but I honestly didn't consider it 'disruption' at the time that I put it. I do feel strongly about the statement I made, and only cared that a few people saw it..because honestly when people are eating cheese and milk..or eating veal..they don't think about the treatment. I wouldn't mind them using the milk from cows, usually if you don't milk a cow--there utters are in pain,so its good to do so,my frustration lies in the separation and the fact that people don't really think of them as animals like cats and dogs but as meat--as steaks, pork,if you had a pet pig, would you enjoy it if someone came over in the middle of the night, slaughtered your pet and said here's some bacon, you not realizing its your pet, absentmindedly eating him? I would think not,I wouldn't appreciate if someone slaughtered a cat and said here ya go! try somethin new!! and all in the while, they are being used for milk, the calves don't even get a chance to be with there mother during the very short duration of there lives, instead they are cruelly separated and sometimes made into veal.

I don't mean to post this in the wrong spot. if it becomes public..that is NOT my intention. my intention is talk to neatsfoote but I'm having difficulty doing so.....

if you can it would be nice to be notified how I can directly talk to neatsfoot as this is a reply to him.

JaydenAlexander (talk) 17:30, 16 November 2014 (UTC)JaydenAlexander

Re: Lord of the Rings Online

Hi, I noticed that you deleted my revision to this article. The official page might only say there are four races, but as a player of the game (Beornings are a seperate choice on the race selection screen) and applying some of the lore from Tolkien's writings I can assure you that they count separately. If you still think my revision is wrong, can you please explain your reasoning. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maguirenumber6 (talkcontribs) 05:01, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia can only repeat what reliable sources have published before, and unfortunately your first-hand experience as a player does not count unless you can back it up with evidence that has been published by secondary sources. If you can find any serious reports which are not from some blog or fansite stating that there are more than four choices you're welcome to re-add the Beornings. And please note also that while Beornings are canonically a branch of Men in Middle-earth counting them as a separate race would be original research. Unless these Beornings in LotrRO are all shape-shifters like Beorn, they should be just normal men who happen to be ruled by Beorn's heirs. De728631 (talk) 10:29, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

MariaJaydHicky's return as CREAAMCheese

MariaJaydHicky's return as new user. Can you sockpuppet him/her? 183.171.183.7 (talk) 11:19, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with the history of the MariaJaydHicky case so with just three edits by CREAAMCheese I can't judge from scratch if there is sockpuppetry going on or not. Also I don't see any evidence right now that would justify opening a new WP:SPI. De728631 (talk) 11:30, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

To subst or not to subst?

I notice you haven't been substituting {{archive bottom}}. Why is that? Would a bot be able to archive a closed thread whose bottom is not substituted. --George Ho (talk) 21:11, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Checking archive pages, most of all of "archive bottom" are not substituted. Hmm... bot works in mysterious ways. --George Ho (talk) 21:13, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Afaik, substitution is only needed to actually write out the text that comes with a template, and not to guide any bots. And as {{archive bottom}} doesn't have any text included I don't think it needs subst'ing. De728631 (talk) 21:17, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
If you use {{archive top}}, the bot will archive the discussion, but the wikicode is changed to {{tl|archive top}} in the archive. This makes it difficult to read the closure rationale when you look at the archived discussion. Therefore, you should always substitute the {{archive top}} template on the WP:NFCR page.
If you use a redirect to {{archive top}}, for example {{archive-top}}, and do not substitute the template, then I belive that the bot won't archive the discussion at all.
The {{archive bottom}} does not require substitution and will work both with and without substitution. --Stefan2 (talk) 01:10, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Redirect of Standard Metre and Standard Kilogram

Hi, just wondering for future reference, do the admins prefer that we just redirect these types of articles rather than nominating them for SD? War wizard90 (talk) 05:05, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes, whenever the page title would suggest a plausible redirect this is preferred over deletion. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion this is not only the admins' position but general consensus. De728631 (talk) 05:07, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

User:Armaanaziz

Can you look into User:Armaanaziz, which is copyvio of User:Armanaziz. Can you comment about this on Vanjagenije's talk? – nafSadh did say 04:14, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

On this same topic, is there a way to unscramble the history of Fani, Mali, which these clowns moved to Feni, Bangladesh? The page might have originally been called Fani, and there seems to be no reason for the page name to be longer than that. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 01:09, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
Umm, the move logs for Fani, Mali don't show any connection with Feni, Bangladesh. I agree though that we don't need the disambiguation with "Mali" so I'm going to move the Malian town back to Fani. De728631 (talk) 02:40, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Umm indeed (I'm not used to looking at move logs). They obfuscated the trail by moving "Fani" first to "Feni (town)", and then "Feni (town)" to "Feni, Bangladesh", which is still visible in the history listings:

From Feni, Bangladesh: Revision history

  • 8 December 2014‎ Wikigeo.int (+3,452)‎ added a lot of material, changing the page from being about Fani (Mali) to being about Feni (Bangladesh)
  • 9 December 2014‎ Armaanaziz moved page Fani to Feni (town)
  • 9 December 2014‎ Wikinga.int moved page Feni (town) to Feni, Bangladesh

From Fani: Revision history

  • 9 December 2014‎ Geographic.location (+3,946)‎ created the page, apparently called Fani, Mali
  • 13 December 2014‎ Wikinga.int moved page Fani, Mali to Fani
  • 13 December 2014‎ Geographic.location moved page Fani to Fani, Mali over redirect
  • and now you have moved it back to Fani (thanks ;-))

The history of Feni (town), the insignificant redirect, is therefore misleading, with only one line in it, omitting the initial move from Fani:

  • 01:15, 9 December 2014‎ Wikinga.int (talk | contribs)‎ . . (46 bytes) (+46)‎ . . (Wikinga.int moved page Feni (town) to Feni, Bangladesh: This article is about the city. For the district, see Feni District.)

Is the status quo the best that can be done to clean up after them, do you know? The history of Fani starting from its creation 17 February 2009‎ by Dr. Blofeld is pre-pended to the history of Feni, Bangladesh. Although this looks like a complete mess, I think it has a disturbing quality reminiscent of the copyvio of user pages, that it also gives the appearance that pages they worked on were not created by them, but had an established history.

Similarly, it looks as if they were responsible for creating pages of significant interest, such as Brahmanbaria. Could they be trying to fake an entry on a list such as WP:NOA? Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:32, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Oh dear, that was pretty messy but I think I have successfully split up the histories of Fani as the original article created by Blofeld and Feni, Bangladesh as created by Armaanaziz. De728631 (talk) 15:43, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
Impressive untanglement, thanks. When I get a chance and can summon the required fortitude, I'll look around to see if there are other pages amongst their debris that have the wrong history pre-pended. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 22:24, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't know about their motivation but I don't think that NOA played a role. All these accounts had so few edits that they wouldn't even appear in the recent statistics. I could imagine though that this guy eventually got confused with his multiple accounts and the similar town names (Fani vs Feni). De728631 (talk) 15:49, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
