Speedy deletion nomination of Iris acutiloba

A tag has been placed on Iris acutiloba requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Just to let you know, in case your extensive work on that large page disappears without a trace, that I have taken a back-up copy. Best wishes, Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:05, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I think I was tired last night but wanted to finally upload the article. I thought that some-thing or some-one would auto-correct the user article mistake ! I do work on the article off-line in Libra Office, so would not have lost everything. ! DavidAnstiss (talk) 17:35, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Iris timofejewii

On 21 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Iris timofejewii, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Iris timofejewii is a rare and endangered iris threatened by overgrazing? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Iris timofejewii. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Iris timofejewii), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi David - having just tweaked your DYK hook and inserted a reference, and only then spotted that you've already used it elsewhere in the article. Would you mind if I left it's removal to you, as I'm running out of time at this end? I hope you think the change is acceptable by calling it 'a black iris', but not exactly suggesting that that's its formal common name. Parkywiki (talk) 23:07, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
I am very happy about the name change, if it gets a DKY nomination ! I have altered the ref into a ref name=jalad and added another ref about bees and pollinators (which would have been a better DYK! ) . This I found a couple of days ago while researching for Iris atropurpurea. Typical ! DavidAnstiss (talk) 09:46, 4 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

On 6 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Iris atrofusca, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. A prep promoter declined to promote the hook because it only told part of the story. I read through the article again and suggested a different hook. Frankly, I found inconsistencies between what you wrote in the article and what was written in the sources you cited. The DYK project is very particular about accuracy and verification of the hook fact vis a vis the source. Yoninah (talk) 19:54, 4 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for changing the hook. I think I just liked the hook with ski resorts as it was 'catchy'. I will try to make sure if I do any other DKY's that they are better sourced. Note, I have just started writing the Iris haynei (Gilboa Iris) article, since you have an interest in Israeli articles. DavidAnstiss (talk) 10:54, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Removed source

As I explained in the edit summary, this is a predatory open access journal. The publisher is on Beall's list. It's a Nigerian publisher of journals which have low to no editorial standards, hence often include junk science. Check my Talk for more details. Guy (Help!) 22:07, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

You removed more than one source not just the journal !! The Handbook source is an actual book !!! Not Nigerian also the American source is a American Society on Irises which uses wiki language ALSO not Nigerian !! That is what I am questioning the removal !!! Plant common names

Hello David,

Thanks for your edit to Darwinia. (You changed the common name for Darwinia citriodora.) Do you have a reference for that? The Darwinia citriodora page gives the common name "lemon-scented darwinia" because that's what's used in the references for that article. Whilst I don't think common names are a big deal, I do think the common name given in the list of darwinias should match the common name on the respective pages. What do you think? Please feel free to add the "lemon-scented myrtle" as an alternative common name to "lemon-scented darwinia" to the Darwinia citriodora page if you can give a reference for it. (I've not read of darwinias being referred to as "myrtles", although it is mentioned in the ANBG reference. "Lemon-scented myrtle" is usually reserved for Backhousia citriodora.) Otherwise, perhaps you might revert your edit? Gderrin (talk) 07:38, 18 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Have added the other common name to Darwinia citriodora used by the Australian Plant Society. Had originally googled "darwinia scented myrtle" and several had come up for darwinia citridora - hence the change. Agree, some common names are very confusing with different countries have their own name for plants. But some people hate the latin names so think it is best to list them all to cover all angles.DavidAnstiss (talk) 11:04, 18 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
