Trosley Country Park

My apologies for tagging Trosley Country Park for speedy deletion. I made a mistake. Please do not be discouraged from editing Wikipedia and consider joining the WikiProject Kent. Having checked the article, it was apparently a copyvio on creation, and thus the deletion was correct.

That said, Trosley Country Park would be notable enough to sustain an article. You could create a new article, in your own words, using that website (amongst others) as a source. As there is no rush, it may be better for now to concentrate on improving existing articles to get a feel for editing Wikipedia before creating a new article. Chatham Central railway station - location

Comparing the 1909 OS map and any present day aerial view (both from the article location link), I reckon that the actual station (tracks & platform) was located along the NE half of the car park off Doust Way. The Doust Way houses are sited slightly further to the NE, and may not even be in the former station yard. Clankypup (talk) 10:42, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

I have had a look and found that there is already a template See: Lakenheath Fen RSPB reserve where it is used. Template:Infobox park gives the low down. Hello Martin, As you see for my talk page I have done quite a few Kent Country Parks and have only just started on the Country Park History - mainly because you were re-doing the Milton Regis article :) I hope to finish it within the next week or so! Albums and images

You're using your sandbox to work on an article about Phildel, and another about her album. That's fine.

You've uploaded images of her album. That's less fine; you can't use images of album covers in your sandbox. Wikipedia's lawyers have said that we can only get away with Fair Use images in articles.

And then you uploaded the album cover to Commons as "own work".

You're not allowed to do that. The image is being deleted as a copyright violation. Even if you scanned the image in yourself, that's not what 'own work' means. Don't upload fair-use images until the article for which they're meant is in mainspace, and don't upload them to Commons as "own work". DS (talk) 14:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

How do I find an image for the album that is a 'fair-use' image. That image has been used on various blogs and websites that I have been using to create the 2 articles about Phildel and her album.

Wikipedia's lawyers have said that (using a non-free image -- for instance, an album cover -- on a Wikipedia page) is acceptable under Fair Use guidelines if it is within an article. Userspace is not acceptable, even if it is a proto-article that you're working on in your sandbox. You should only upload the nonfree image to Wikipedia's servers once (the article that it's for) is ready. And you should never upload a nonfree image to Commons; Commons is only for free images.

And remember, "free" and "nonfree" are not defined in terms of whether you had to pay for the jpg. They're defined in terms of the image copyright. If you can't find a copyright-free photo of Phildel, that's too bad; it means that the article will have no photo for now. Wikipedia's lawyers have said that as long as the person is still alive, then it is possible for someone to take a copyright-free photo of them; it's "replaceable" (with certain very rare exceptions like "is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole, ever"). Hey David. The last sentence in this article - "The gardens also include a Ha-ha. Built in C18 of red brick. PS Medway Queen

Hello namesake. From what I see, your reversion of revision 581609586 is mistaken. At present neither Wingfield Castle nor Medway Queen are mobile (except in the sense that both are afloat and can be towed). Although it is the intention that MQ be restored to self-propulsion (and I hope that she is), that may not happen for some time or at all. How do you feel about a lead:

The PS Medway Queen is a former British estuary paddle steamer built in 1924. She was one of the "little ships of Dunkirk", making a record 7 trips and rescuing 7000 men in the evacuation of Dunkirk. Under a programme of restoration, a replica hull has been built and funds are being raised to restore the rest of her to operational condition.

The detail of the Lottery funding should be in the article itself. That needs considerable work - but you will see from the Talk page that user:Storye_book intends having a look at this, so I will hold off for the moment. Davidships (talk) 20:59, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Thames barges

Hello - Thanks for your reply re MQ.

On Thames barges, I am interested but have no particular expertise or handy sources. As well as some links at Thames sailing barge, there is an article currently named Sailing barge Thalatta which gives a possible target for content, though it needs a strong copy-edit, and renaming to something like Thalatta (barge) (my preferred) or SB Thalatta.

Lists of botanists by author abbreviation

Hi, it's always good to have new names added to these lists. A couple of points:

• You always need to check by an author search in IPNI, since this is the only definitive source. E.g. you added the wrong Abramov recently – see [1].
• There are n-dashes rather than hyphens between the bolded abbreviation and the name, and between birth and death year, as per the MOS. If you're not sure how to produce n-dashes, just copy a previous line and change it.

Lists of botanists by author abbreviation

Always good to see more entries in these lists. A couple of minor points: the alphabetic order is as if there are no full stops, spaces, etc. and all the letters are capitals (necessary because of the very varied way the standard abbreviations get written, sometimes with spaces, sometimes not); the character between the birth and death years should be an endash, not a hyphen, as per the MOS. Irises

Hi David, I just wanted to remark that I had thought it should be possible to find a recent classification of the irises, because there has been a lot of work on their molecular phylogenetics, but I can't find such a thing. I think it is true that Section Reticulatae is not validly published, as seemed likely from its non-presence in the International Plant Names Index, but it would be necessary to put a classification together from pieces in recent journal articles (and that would probably be assailed as WP:OR). The indexes, http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/qsearch.do and http://tropicos.org don't say which species are in which subgenus, section, or series. Thank you for that, I am finding that the classification system seems to be in a state of flux at the moment. With some Iris societys having one system (Pacific wetland and dryland) and others having a different system. Also found a recent article by Tony Hall (2000) on the genetics lumping Scorpirises and reticulas together ! Although, I think I got carried away with the Cassidy book system - before checking others ! Did not know about Plant list and IPNI until talking to Peter coxhead (about botanists) ! Style for botanical authorities

I'll add my support to the praise above for the work you've been doing on irises! Just a small styling point. In taxoboxes and lists of species, it's become the norm to put botanical authorities in a smaller font. Thus in a list of synonyms in a taxobox, rather than:

use

• Iris cepifolia Stokes

There are several ways to get the correct format.

• ''Iris cepifolia'' <small>Stokes</small>
• ''Iris cepifolia'' {{small|Stokes}}
• Use {{Species list}} which is the easiest for a list of names and authorities.

Program to format synonym lists

Hi David, I wonder if you might find useful a little Javascript program that you can find a link to at the top of my user page (click the green box), for rather rapidly formatting synonym lists from theplantlist.org. It needs to be downloaded, and then it runs in a browser (I do that by dragging the .html file to an open tab in Firefox). It is written in Javascript so that all the source code can easily be inspected so no sneaky things can be in there. The link from my user page takes you to a sub-page that is the documentation for the program. One particular reason for mentioning this to you is that there is potential for making variants of it to work with other databases (I have one that I haven't uploaded that takes synonym lists from The World Checklist of Selected Plant Families, with an option to work a little differently if it is working on synonyms for a genus or for a species). Well, all the data manipulation uses copy-and-paste (control-C and control-P in Windows). The program opens in the window with two areas for you to paste in the copied text from the plantlist page and the copied URL, then when you click "convert" it produces in another text box the reformatted text which you can then copy and past into a wikipedia page. You could try it out without ever touching wikipedia. It produces "|synonyms = ... |synonyms_ref = ..." with the citation, the accessdate, and it sorts the species names alphabetically in case they weren't already sorted. It's a bit clever in that it drops lines that don't have the right format, so you don't have to be careful to copy only the appropriate lines from the TPL page. Well, it's not a hard and fast rule that you have to use the template, but I think it's a good idea unless there are particular reasons to do otherwise. The only strong point I'd make is that since there are editors around who quote WP:NOTMANUAL to discourage too much being written about cultivation, it's never a good idea to put the Cultivation section first.

I've already dared to fix on Tyrol-->South Tyrol link - which you seemed to approve of, but good old Disambiguation tool identified a second use of Tyrol. I'm not quite sure which is the best of the Wikipedia meanings of Tyrol to use, and don't want to adversely alter the meaning by using the wrong one (possibly for a second time!). Cheers. Naomi Feinbrun-Dothan - Kishinev pogrom

On https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naomi_Feinbrun-Dothan "Kishinev pogrom boundary" sounds as if it had been decided that only certain streets would be affected by the pogrom. Nurit Kirsh (http://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/feinbrun-dotan-naomi) says "the 1905 Kishinev pogrom did not reach the street where the family had lived" which leaves the issue open.
