Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Holocaust denial, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Your RfA

Sorry to inform you, but it has become apparent that the chance of your RfA succeeding is infinitesimal. As a result, it has been closed early. please see WP:NOTNOW for more info. Triplestop x3 00:01, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Triplestop has re-opened the RFA per your request. (And an admin subsequently closed it but re-opened upon seeing your request). But, while I admire your determination and your desire to seek feedback from other editors and admins, I am afraid that requesting this not be closed is not going to get you the feedback you are looking for. Rather, this may turn into a process where people feel that prolonging the process is not an efficient use of their time.
Can I suggest instead that you consider allowing this RFA to close, and possibly add try the Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests for Coaching process, or go through an editor review. Those may be more constructive than the (sometimes brutal) comments that you may get in your RFA. Just my 2cents.  7  03:30, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay i see your point. I shall withdraw my RfA and look for coaching. Thanks. CrossHouses (talk) 03:33, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, and good luck.  7  03:50, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the two articles, I have moved them back to their official titles of X²: The Threat and X³: Reunion, and explained why on their talk pages. If you disagree with my reasoning, please discuss it there. Cheers, AJCham 04:14, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Class 70 question

Hello. Please see question about the references Talk:British_Rail_Class_70_(PowerHaul)#Minor_referencing_issue - do the references need to be moved back a paragraph or not? I don't have these books/magazines. Thanks.Shortfatlad (talk) 22:07, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Class 377/5 operation by Southeastern

I have undone this edit since you seem to be unaware that the Bedford to Gillingham & Ashford services are joint Southeastern services. Southeastern operates the service, and Southeastern drivers sign 377 traction. This is an arrangement under the Thameslink programme. As stated in a previous edit. Ivor the driver (talk) 21:24, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

But Southeastern do not own or lease any 377's whereas FCC & SR do. I don't think this would qualify as an operator if they merely borrow trains, That would be like the 168 article listing Wrexham & Shropshire as an operator because they occasionally borrow a Chiltern unit... By the way, Merry Christmas! CrossHouses (talk) 03:34, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Well I think you're being incredibly petty and pedantic. The Railway Industry considers Southeastern to be an operator of 377s for the reasons I have given - but I'm going to leave it there. I just couldn't be bothered to get into an argument. Ivor the driver (talk) 11:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
If 'The Railway Industry' considers Southeastern to be an operator, could you provide a source that backs up your claims? If not, other editors are within their right to revert any edits that cannot be verified. NRTurner (talk) 19:16, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Shrewsbury Traction Maintenance Depot

Not that I care that much, except that an encyclopaedia is meant to be easy to find things in, but your move of Shrewsbury Traction Maintenance Depot to Shrewsbury TMD seems somewhat bolder than might be useful. Google doesn't have many hits for either term, but it has 40 or so for the longer term and 18 for the abbreviation. It looks to me as if the longer term is thus more logical. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 23:39, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

The joys of Google eh? I merely moved it to keep it inline with the other TMD pages on WP. see:[1] CrossHouses (talk) 00:47, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Amusing to think that all those other pages may also be incorrect. In general we strive to keep jargon and abbreviations out of article titles, choosing to use a redirect from the jargon name to the full name. Perhaps you might like to look at the entire list with that in mind? I don't much care. I'm never going to look for one of them anyway! Fiddle Faddle (talk) 10:51, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Metro

Another issue to be addressed is, please could people indicate in the next month at the feedback page or on my talk page whether they still want to recieve issues of the metro. A lot of newsletters seem to be going to redundant pages. Simply south (talk) 20:11, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Shrewsbury station

I've posted a couple of messages on Talk:Shrewsbury railway station. I'm sure we can discuss this amicably before we get into a horrible revert war! DrFrench (talk) 20:47, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Re, the historical railways navbox. Thanks for your message. I've integrated the historical routes into the main navbox. Hope this is what you were after. DrFrench (talk) 23:17, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

You're right; I shouldn't have used the epithet. But neither you nor any other editor have any right whatsoever to accuse me of vandalism or to revert me without bothering to provide a reason, since I explained every edit I made. It's extremely disrespectful of you not to provide me the same courtesy. 24.126.115.61 (talk) 05:07, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Surely to reduce confusion it would be easier to create an account, this way you will be viewed with less suspicion when you post often pointless edits? Also, my apologies for not signing the warning, blame a lack of Caffeine. CrossHouses (talk) 11:10, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
So you're openly admitting that you're prejudiced against IPs and will revert them for no reason, without considering the validity of their edits. That's just lovely. 24.126.115.61 (talk) 02:11, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
No. However when i saw in the edit summary an insult to another editor I assume bad intentions. Maybe if you are kinder to fellow editors you will not be viewed so poorly. CrossHouses (talk) 22:10, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
You know, I honestly did regret using the name, but my remorse has been very much diluted since you and other users (perhaps indicative of some common characteristic among railway-interested editors) have been so blatant and unapologetic in continuing to demonstrate the reprehensible behavior that led me to use the name. There are many reasons I should not call someone a jackass on Wikipedia, but undoing legitimate edits for no relevant reason is nevertheless a silly and shameful thing to do. Propaniac (talk) 13:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Well that's good, but you did remove some standard links at the page header. Next time, add your link alongside the pre-existing links, unless yours should overwrite them. CrossHouses (talk) 02:00, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Deansgate

Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Deansgate, as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". The symbols used in the infobox are a common way of indicating increase/decrease, cf Moorgate, King's Cross St. Pancras etc. DrFrench (talk) 22:38, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Manchester Metrolink

Hi. I don't understand why you reverted two edits in a row here. In the first, the IP user - which was me, by the way - corrected a missing bracket. In the second a time-hostage was removed which said "in the autumn" which was useless and should have been spotted some time between 2008 and now. I appreciate that you later corrected the time reference and that some more careful editor came along and put the bracket right - again - but I am baffled as to why you would have reverted, without comment, two useful edits as if they were vandalism, especially when the editor had used edit summaries to explain exactly what they had done. It doesn't seem courteous or careful. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 15:12, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Bolton

The "it" that I referred to is Bolton railway station/Interchange. I still think the article is about Bolton, the settlement. It is not necessary to provide excessive detail about bus stands here especially as there are links to an article about the said Interchange. As I said the link to Bolton Interchange is an improvement, the detail is excessive. A full stop is not required in the brackets either.--J3Mrs (talk) 18:39, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Bolton was edited according to the following guidelines [2]:

Any heavy rail or light rail stations and lines. Any airports/ferryports that are associated with the settlement can be mentioned, but a detailed description of any of them should be placed in their own article, or else in the article dealing with the local government article that contains them. Bolton is a Good Article and I don't understand why you would want to edit against these guidelines. I am going to remove the detailed description. --J3Mrs (talk) 19:15, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Nick Pigott

When you PRODded the article, you gave as a reason, "Orphaned, ill-formed, unsourced article on an un-noteworthy subject". Taking these in turn:

  • Orphaned - No. See WP:O. There are six incoming links from pages in article space, definitely not "fewer than three".
  • ill-formed - subjective, but what part of MOS:LAYOUT does it fall down on?
  • unsourced article - in what way? Partially sourced, yes; but definitely not "unsourced".
  • on an un-noteworthy subject - again, subjective, but as the incumbent editor of a 113-year-old magazine with a current circulation over 30,000, he's surely got some claim to notability?

Regards. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:12, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Re this edit - you could try clicking the wikilink earlier in that sentence, to see "As of 2010 it has been, for three years running, the railway magazine with the largest circulation in the U.K., having a monthly average sale during 2009 of 34,715[1]".

Should I copy that ref over to Nick Pigott (I have the magazine concerned to hand, and can verify that is what it says) or simply remove the {{cn}}? --Redrose64 (talk) 12:13, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

About your Admin Coaching request

User talk

Your submission at Admin Coaching has been removed from the request list, as requests where the submitter has not visited the page for at least 6 months (or been inactive for at least 4 months) are removed.

You are welcome to re-submit a request should you wish to, but please note that you are expected to regularly check the page (and to update the "last visited" field of your request) to show your continued interest in the project. If you do re-submit, please carefully re-read the instructions for submission as they may have changed since you last visited!

As noted on the project page, there is an on-going backlog with the project, as so few admins are currently coaching. This means that you may have a long wait for a response (if you receive one at all).

If you no longer require admin coaching, I hope that you continue to enjoy editing Wikipedia!

Hey. I have to say, I'm not fussed either way on the 158 picture, mainly because I took both of them (:p), but I agree that overall the 175 is a better one, especially as it shows the revised Arriva livery rather than the old one. -mattbuck (Talk) 02:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Singlive-logo.gif

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Singlive-logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Speedy deletion nomination of Singlive

A tag has been placed on Singlive requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Nuttah (talk) 14:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:England Bus Pass Example.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:England Bus Pass Example.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hello there! As part of an experiment to determine how many active editors are present in the spaceflight-related WikiProjects, some changes have been made to the list of members of WikiProject Space Colonization. If you still consider yourself to be an active editor in this project, we would be grateful if you would please edit the list so that your name is not struck out - thus a clearer idea of the critical mass of editors can be determined. Thanks for the image. Any idea what it was that broke? It didn't make it past Hereford. I'm hoping we might see it past (I live at Severn Tunnel) in the next couple of days. Andy Dingley (talk) 17:18, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Unnecessary hatnotes

Hi. Just a short note to explain that the hatnotes you are adding to articles on the River Don and the like are unnecessary and outside editing guidelines. See Wikipedia:Hatnote#Disambiguating article names that are not ambiguous for more information. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 01:22, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update

Hey CrossHouses. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:35, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Manchester Victoria station

Why did you do Template:Diff? As I noted in my edit, the article has two infoboxes, one for each of the two main parts of the station: National Rail is covered at Manchester Victoria station#top, Metrolink is covered at Manchester Victoria station#Victoria Metrolink station. That second infobox has Template:Para so there is no need for this to be repeated in the first infobox. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:55, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

I've reverted you a final time. You could have just corrected the link in question instead of reverting wholesale, and reintroducing a wrong link in the proces each time. -- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}} 20:15, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 31

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited National Express Midland Metro, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CAF. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQTemplate:* Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

New deal for page patrollers

Hi BASEPAGENAME,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Survey Invite

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they affect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=3dz0m2ubQw1KSnb_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_0jqMnvaVZDninPv&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 15:37, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Midlands Air Ambulance, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cosford (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQTemplate:* Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Who?

User:CrossHouses added two who?-tags in a recent mod to the CLRV article. According to the related style guidelines, the who?-tag is for citing unnamed people. However, the sources are very clearly identified and named. So, why the who?-tag? TheTrolleyPole (talk) 13:13, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

Template:Reply to Who?-tag in CLRV article.

Template:U, I assume CrossHouses meant more "why is this person worthy of mention/who are they in relation to the article's topic?"; a misuse of the tag, yes, but probably a good question to ask. I've adjusted the Munro reference to address this (assuming I'm right in interpreting the addition of the tag). Also, this discussion would probably be more suitable on the talk page of the article, since it's edits to the article that you're asking questions about and editors interested in the article are more likely to find the discussion there than on an editor's talk page. —Joeyconnick (talk) 16:49, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
