Hi. I'm a bit baffled as to how to leave a message at the bottom of your talk page - my attempts keep telling me there is "no such section". Not to be deterred, I don't think you can have looked at the discussion between me and this user in its totality. If you're still interested, I've left a brief summary on my own talk page. That's perfectly okay! I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall, though, so I'm not going to bother continuing. What really annoys me is that rafablu88 is obviously a good article contributor and a smart person, but still an ass. It's hard to condemn someone's attitude without just sounding preachy. Alas! I have mistaked a made!

Thanks for the message- I do have a bad habit of being too quick and harsh with warnings, and if you check my contribs I'm sure you'll find more only warnings than anyone should be comfortable with. I'll try to work on this, and I'm sorry for wasting admin's times. Thanks again for the message! A little insignificant (talk) 19:40, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Whaty is your method

So, what's your method? How the hell do you get people to actually review an article at FA or FLC? I don't have the mistiest. I really don't, and if my FA/FL noms go down into the deep AGAIN because of lack of community envolvement I'm gonna quit the crappy deal and do fail-safe GAs instead. And I'm truly angry with the workgroup because every time I open up a nom, its closed due to epic community failure. ResMar 00:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

I lol'd when I saw this comment. I have to love you, Res. Often, I'll have people comment on the article before I send it to FAC or even GAN. When they see it's at FAC, sometimes they'll comment. I'll ask people who have little knowledge of earth sciences, so they can evaluate the reading to a non-expert. Hope that helped, I have to finish an essay question. ceranthor 00:06, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes but that's not the point. How am I supposed to save a Featured candicacy that is down the ditch? You always seem to gather plenty of comments. My FACs are flops. Hawaii hotspot, Rumford Prize, Loihi Seamount 1 & 2; they all failed because NO ONE GAVE A CRAP. I've asked people to review but it had as much effect as trying to drain the ocean with a thimble. RFA - Who me? :)

Hi Ceranthor, thanks for the nudge on my talk page. That ringing endorsement of "for the time being" really fired me up! :) Just kidding - I've been thinking about it for at least a year. No time like the present, and I will proceed with some of the other editors who commented there. Thanks for your confidence in my ability, I'll give it a shot. Franamax (talk) 12:53, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

You have obviously instilled competence before, so I guess I have a good shot at picking RfA candidates. :[ just kidding about the second part. You are more than already over-qualified. ceranthor 13:07, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

I would like to help with GAN reviews

Hi Ceranthor,

I came across your profile via Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Mentors. My reason for contact is that I've noticed a huge backlog in GAN's, and was wondering if anyone was permitted to help out in the reviewing process. I'm willing to offer my services, and see if I can get the backlog down a little bit more. Would I be doing the wrong thing if I were to help out with GAN's? I look forward to your reply. (Gareth aka Pr3st0n (talk) 18:49, 21 September 2009 (UTC)).

Coming from someone who is a pretty active GA reviewer, anyone can. Make sure you read the good article criteria and follow the directions at GAN. I tried to conduct good reviews when I first started and it resulted in trouble, so I'm glad you asked for help. Try to avoid contentious or lengthy articles for your first review, as they tend to be long and hard reviews. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me. Tell me what article you review too so I can critique your review! Hope I helped, ceranthor 20:10, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice Ceranthor, I will take on-board all the helpful hints & tips. I will look for the easiest one to review for my first attempt. I recently re-written an article myself, which on first sight was very basic, but I spent many man-hours to bring up to standard, and as a result put it up for GA nomination. I feel that helping out review other articles for GAN, will enable me to see if the work I've done on Lostock Hall article is up to similar standards. I realise I cannot review any articles I've contributed to - and thus won't be reviewing the Lostock Hall one. Although, hopefully a reviewer will get round to reviewing that article in due course. Once again, thanks for the help. The first article I will review the GAN for is on Alesha Dixon, and can be found on the GAN here. Pr3st0n (talk) 21:33, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Ceranthor, before I publish my review notes to talk:Alesha Dixon, I would firstly like to put them forward to you for your critique review.
Article: Alesha Dixon...
Is the article well written?... Failed. Section in article refers to instruments, however the first letter of each instrument is capitalised, which is not necessary, small case would be sufficient.. "Door harp, the Clutch guitar and the Hatchback kick drum"
Is the article factually accurate and verifiable?... Passed
Is the article broad in its coverage?... Failed... # Infobox shows all record labels for Alesha Dixon, however the dates she was contracted to each are missing, this makes it look like the singer is contracted to all 3, when she is only contracted to 1.
The lead paragraph has no mention to her contract with the new record label.
Also in the lead paragraph, there is a reference to Polydor Records in which it state Alesha parted from them, yet further down in the article is a copy of a quote from Alesha, in which she talks about Polydor axing her from the label. This is causing conflicting information.
Is the article neutral?... Passed.
Is the article stable?... Passed.
Images... are images in the article have passed the criteria set out.
Are my conclusions suitable? I appreciate your opinion. Pr3st0n (talk) 22:22, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Looks pretty good. ceranthor 11:08, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Re: Redirect

I was being bold and trying to quash a redundant process before people started to think IT had consensus. I left an explanation on WT:RFA. If someone wants to recreate it, they can, but it shouldn't be a subpage of RfA and it needs to be clearly delineated as a proposal, not an official policy or process. Andre (talk) 23:58, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Well, consider it a taste of old-school boldness from someone who has seen more than a few redundant process ideas. Andre (talk) 00:06, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi — I don't know if you remember me from this thread on SandyGeorgia's talk page. There, I was complaining that a FAC I had nominated had been closed simply for a lack of input, even though it had one support and no opposes. You and others advised me to "try and recruit collaborators". I have since nominated the article again. Your advice sounded reasonable, so I figured I'd ask you: If you have time, would you be kind enough to review the nomination? Bsimmons666 (talk) 22:20, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

GA review of 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake

Is this review ready to be wrapped up? You started reviewing on August 30, with your last comment on September 10. It's now October 14, so it's been a month and a half. If you could wrap this up by either passing or failing it, that would be appreciated. GA reviews should really not take longer than about 2-3 weeks. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:23, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

There are outstanding concerns that need to be resolved. The nominator notified me that he/she was quite busy, so I gave them more time. If the article's improvements are not made by Friday, I will fail the article. Thanks for letting me know. ceranthor 19:13, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

1997 Qayen earthquake

Overall decent article with only a few phrasing quibbles. Nothing major. I'll just mention a few:

  • "In a report on countries with poor earthquake engineering, Iran was listed first" - feels "essayish". You could rephrase as "Iran was listed first in a report on countries with poor earthquake engineering."
  • "An alarming statistic indicates" - The use of "an alarming" seems like someone may say that it is not neutral or encyclopedic. I don't mind it.
  • "Aftershocks occurred along the rupture" - Seems a little odd after the preceding sentence (lack of connectivity). You could say "These aftershocks occurred" or "Many of these aftershocks occurred".
  • "A rescue team with with". Doubled words.

- Ottava Rima (talk) 22:05, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Dear Ceranthor

I have several things to say to you right now:

  1. My lack of activity: well I recently became obsessed with a game called Armagetron Advanced. Still am, actually. To make a long story short, I left Wikipedia except for a few small things for the past few weeks to play Armagetron obsessively. Now that I've more or less gotten over that, I'll be returning to Wikipedia...shortly. After my new laptop charger cable comes. My laptop charger cable fried. Oh well at least the laptop didn't die*joke*. However, because I'm in high school now and high school is an epic pain-in-the-ass, I won't be editing quite as often as I (obsessively) once did. Not a wikiholic anymore :/
  2. Something interesting: I dropped out of wikipedia just about the time that I was finishing the Rumford Prize FLC. I avoided the FLC when came back for a few sparse edits, knowing it was in all likelyhood dead...only to discover earlier today that, in fact, the community, the same one that had failed me so many times before, pulled it through for me :O Wow what a turnaround :O
  3. A favor: Can you look over Kohala (mountain) and leave a few comments on the talk page for me? It's approaching GA, somewhat, but I need to weed out the problems first. Can you leave suggestions on the talk page Thanks.
