AfD nomination of Brian sterner

I have nominated Brian sterner, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brian sterner. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Carom (talk) 20:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

You do not Feel that this article satisfies the criteria for inclusion? Who the hell cares what you feel? The entry existed for less then 2 minutes before you jumped all over it with your delete nomination. There wasn't any time to expand or refine the article.

This entry is an example of police brutality, intended to compliment the primary police brutality entry. However obscure this incident is, it will be useful as a research tool for those interested in police brutality.

I don't need to defend or justify my entry to you, nor do I need your invitation to do so. What I need is for self-important jerks to stop challenging and threatening to destroy my my entries so I can actually spend some time working on them, instead or arguing for their existence. I can't work on an entry if I have to spend all my time on the discussion boards

Who the hell made you king of Wikipedia? You are out of line. Who's you boss, somebody needs to put you in line.--Douglasfgrego (talk) 21:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Wehrmacht anyone?

Hi, I'm a relatively new editor who has undertaken to revamp, expand and increase in number the articles concerned with the Eastern Front (World War II). I see you have done some work on the Germany forces, and was wondering if you could, when you have the time, to scan the Wehrmacht articles and perform rudimentary German terminology quality control. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to contribute.--mrg3105 (comms) If you're not taking any flak, you're not over the target. 06:40, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Patrolling pages

Thanks for your work on patrolling new pages. I noticed that you only mark pages as 'patrolled' if they are worthy of inclusion. However, after you tag an article for speedy deletion, you should also mark it as patrolled so other editors don't waste their time re-reviewing it. (See patrolled pages. for more info). A7 Speedy deletion nomination of Blake Whitney (S&S character)

Yo, I removed your speedy nomination of Blake Whitney (S&S character), because WP:CSD criterion A7 only applies to real people, not fictional characters. Best, скоморохъ 03:43, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Nope, I think speedy is mostly for types of articles that the encyclopedia is regularly spammed with i.e. bands, internet memes, biographies. Fictional non-vandalism has to be taken to WP:PROD or WP:AFD. скоморохъ 03:48, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello Carom,

Think you could help me procure the article "Forgotten Allies: The Military Contribution of the Colonies, Exiled Governments, and Lesser Powers to the Allied Victory in World War II." from JSTOR? Oberiko (talk) 18:22, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Carom, Seems this business is moving faster than I thought - I thought I'd be the first one to ask! Would you be able to access this article - http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0047-1607(1993)21%3A1%2F2%3C84%3AEAWARS%3E2.0.CO%3B2-1 - (ECOMOG and West African Regional Security: A Nigerian Perspective, Gani J. translation of German terms

I don't know whether these two terms really translate or should be used in German.

  1. schweizer Stoss:holding the pike with both hands next to its center of gravity and fencing with it, used by Swiss mercenaries until they faced Landsknechts who had a different way to hold their pikes and used their pikes in aggresive maneuver and not for defence of the battle column(Hartz) and the skirmishers on the flanks.
  2. deutscher Stoss the pike has its center of gravity in the lower third and is held with both hands at the end(not the sharp and point one), one arm is stretched in front and the other can move the pike up and down. It is very tiresome and for this reason as few ranks as possible lowered their pikes from the vertical transporting position. It was first used by the Landsknecht formations. It is considered very difficult to master and for this reason not enough trained units didn't adopt it, so both stances coexisted, although the deutscher Stoss had the "longer pike", giving it a cutting edge in any push of pikes.

It would be great if you could find out how these terms translate. Any English book about pike warfare should have a section on this(and my library hasn't any). Wandalstouring (talk) 16:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

formatting question

Carom, I'm wondering if you'd be able to answer a question for me:

I've been working extensively on the Battle of Verrieres Ridge, and it's improved significantly since it failed its GA in July. However, one thing is still causing me a bit of aggravation: The footnotes and Citations are interspersed. I've received several comments suggesting that I change this. However, I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to do so (granted, my wikimarkup skills are quite rudimentary, so that might have something to do with it). I'm stumped. Would you happen to know how to separate footnotes from citations in a ref-list? Thanks, Cam (complaints) 05:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. I just took the footnotes and put the information back into the actual article.

Cam (complaints/Discussion) 18:34, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm planning to do a little more tweaking on the article, and then renominate it for GA.

Sydney Smith

A question about the WWII portal

Hi Carom. I just noticed the WWII portal is being skewed by the subpage you created earlier this month for links to Wikiquote, Commons, etc:Portal:World War II/World War II Wikimedia. For some reason, the images on the subpage aren't reading the width and height parameters in the templates you used, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to fix it myself. Can you take a look at the subpage and see if you can fix the images? If you want to reply, you can here, I'll see it. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 18:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, disregard that note. In playing around with the template, I figured out that the size parameters should just be plain numbers, without a "px" attached. Cool. I'll see ya around. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 18:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Eyre

But were they? one of the reasons i support the further reading tag is you cannot be had for things not fitting properly with the text - do we know they were used for refs? sigh, its all a bit of the bother as I am about to add some more further reading items... cheers and greetings from down here SatuSuro 12:59, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

14th (Light) Division

Rather than engage in an edit war with User:Leithp I would respectfully disagree with his interpretation of WP:MILHIST Division title naming convention, especially in this case. There are no less than 11 articles in Wikipedia on military units named some variation of "14th Division". In the present case "14th (Light)Division" on its own does not tell us which nation it refers to. All militaries capable of maneuver warfare use light infantry so Leithp's assertion that it is unique and does not need to be disambiguated is inaccurate. Proposed deletion of Portal:Genocide

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Portal:Genocide, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on [[Talk:Portal:Genocide|its talk page]].

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:02, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Proposed new WikiProject University of Connecticut

You are cordially invited to join the newly-proposed WikiProject University of Connecticut, designed to promote collaboration and improvement on UConn-related articles on Wikipedia. Specifically, the following articles are proposed to be within the new WikiProject's scope:

  • The University itself, including the campuses, notable buildings, notable academic programs, and notable professors;
  • The Connecticut Huskies athletic teams, including the men's basketball, women's basketball, and football teams, their coaches, players, facilities, and history;
  • Notable alumni, including both athletes and non-athletes.

Currently no one WikiProject covers all UConn-related content:

WikiProject University of Connecticut, when created, will be a centralized location to coordinate monitoring and improvement of UConn-related articles.

To comment on the proposed creation of the new WikiProject University of Connecticut, click here. To join the proposed WikiProject, click here, as the membership list is transcluded directly on the proposal page. Thank you for your attention, and GO HUSKIES! Grondemar

Wiki Loves Pride 2014

Hi Carom. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 15:59, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Global account

Hi Carom! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:25, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
