AfD

Thank you for closing the AfD on John Leach (writer) (who is me) and for your comments attached. At the end of the day it seems to me to be POV about what is notable and what is not: I think the special pages are a total mess of contradictions and I don't see how anyone can possibly work out what message is being sent to AfD, if any. In some ways, I'm glad this AfD decision was keep because it puts certain people in their place; in other ways, I wish you had just got rid of that article for me. I hope that the "keep" decision will be enough to keep the life on other planets at bay in future. Thanks again and best wishes for 2008. --BlackJack | talk page 19:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Rudget!

Dear Carlosguitar, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support, my request for adminship passed 60/0/0 on Monday!

I want to thank Mrs.EasterBunny and Royalbroil for nominating me, those who updated the RfA tally, and everyone for their support and many kind words. To paraphrase a president ... I will do my best to use the new tools carefully and responsibly (and you may be surprised to find that I have not deleted all of the pages by accident..... yet).

I removed the fight from his record because of an earlier consensus a bunch of us reached about upcoming/prospective stuff in record tables. I could have sworn it was on WT:MMA, but I can't seem to find it. I think the discussion was in regards to someone posting a "TBA" in the "Current Champions" section on Ultimate Fighting Championship for an interim title. As I recall, the consensus was that future stuff was okay to mention in prose, but it shouldn't go into an actual table of records or events until it's actually happened.

I could be wrong, but that was my memory of it. Gromlakh (talk) 20:10, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

But you are not using common sense. I agree to remove future fights with several days to occur, but 2 days?! Come on, what about if an IP add the same information which I provided with 8 hours to event occur, would you still revert this IP because he/she add a future information? Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 20:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Your revert

Hi, could you explain the logic behind your edit here please? I understand the precise nature of parkour is variable depended on who you ask, however WikiProject Sports claims that Parkour is part of their project. There are also plenty of sources that define parkour as a sport. [2][3][4][5][6]. There doesn’t seem to be one firm definition of Parkour at the moment and since it is often defined as a sport (or extreme sport by critics) I believe the category is entirely appropriate and will help people find the page. Best, --S.dedalus (talk) 02:15, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Please read Parkour#Overview and Parkour#Non-rivalry. I added parkour to WikiProject Sports because this article is within the scope, but does not mean the parkour is a sport. Adding parkour on this category is same to say that parkour is a sport, no it is not. Sports are competitive, with rules or they have international federation to organize parkour as a sport, but all these things does not exist on parkour. These sources you provided are unreliable and inaccurate. If you want to continue this discuss, please use the talk page of parkour. Cheers. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 03:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
If you have no objection, I have duplicated this discussion on the talk page with my reply there. I hope you will contribute to the discussion there as I think you have misunderstood my point. Thanks, --S.dedalus (talk) 06:44, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

speedy deletion of albums

  • yes, and interestingly enough you're one of only two administrators to ever question it, the others accepting the sense of the logic and deleting the albums routinely. but hey, if you want to sacrifice common sense for unimportant processual minutiae, i'll prod it, and the result will be the same, but the clutter will be around a week longer. bravo. tomasz. 16:41, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Informal mediation

I have volunteered to help out as an informal mediator for Parkour based on the request to MedCab for assistance (Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2008-02-11 Parkour). I am currently taking the time to review the article and talk page history. If you have any questions or concerns, or wish to make an additional comment, please feel free to leave a comment on the case page (Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-02-11_Parkour#Discussion) or on my talk page. Affirmation in Logic

Your redirect to Logic is not helpful as the article does not use the term "Affirmation". Please think again about what we can do about the multiple meanings of this word? The article "Proposition" does give some explanation but is tagged for a cleanup. Vernon White . . . Talk 23:46, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

As I said on talk page, this article has issues with WP:NOT#DICT. If you expand your article then it is possible to keep its own entry, but with a short context it is better to merge into another article. Cheers. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 23:51, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I understand that the article is inadequate but redirecting searchers to another article that doesn't mention the topic is not helpful! I am not qualified to expand the article but hope that some logician would do so. However, the article Proposition indicates that this is not likely. Can you help, please? Vernon White . . . Talk 09:51, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
If you took this sentence from Affirmation, obviously it should be merged back. Affirmation in Logic should not be split until there is enough information to do it, so it is better to keep with these information on main article about Affirmation due to issues with WP:NOT#DICT. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 18:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I have taken it out of the Affirmation article, leaving it to the DAB page to point somewhere potentially useful. Vernon White . . . Talk 18:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

My recent edits

Hi

As you mentioned in Talk:Mexico I am quite new on Wikipedia. However I am learning. I would expect that some users act as if they were the owner of the article. What should I do? to forward back and let the article the way it is? I tried to insert a section about crime in the Mexico article but the editors there didn't allow me to do so. Curiouslly, on the article about Brazil, there is already a section about crime and guess what? when I tried to removed it, to resemble more to other pages of Latin American countries, I was barred. I don't understand what consensus we are using here, but what I see is that users are claiming the ownership of the articles and impending everyone else to edit the pages just because they think the current version is the right one.

--Mhsb (talk) 03:30, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello Mhsb, as I said you should try to change the consensus by requesting third opinion, requesting for comment or mediation. But please comment on content no on the contributors and do not edit war or an administrator may block you due these issues. Cheers. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 06:28, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you!!

Thank you so much for not deleting T. R. Mahalingam (flautist). The editor who placed the speedy-delete tag on this page has been habitually assuming bad faith and already has a ANI pending against him. In response, he has been going around many pages I've created or made contributions to, with speedy-delete tags. Anyway, I really do appreciate it, and so does the project! Ncmvocalist (talk) 15:45, 28 February 2008 (UTC) - WikiProject India Assessment Departmnet.

No problem. But I think you should expand this article, because I almost deleted it under WP:SD#A3. So expanding and citing more sources would be very useful. Cheers. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 04:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

TaikoProject

Thanks for your message - I've restored the article to have a quick look, but there is no content in it which isn't a direct copyviolation of the website quoted in the speedy tag - my apologies if I failed to change the reason for deletion to G12 (copyvio), but I have no re-deleted the article. I suspect there's potentially sufficient notability for it to survive, but can't allow the content to remain up whilst someone fixes the copyvio issue, as it's so fundamental. Perhaps starting from scratch might be the best move for this article? Thanks! GBT/C 09:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

"Yeah!"'s alternate cover

Why have you speedily deleted "Yeah!"'s alternate cover? Tons and tons of single articles contain alternate single covers. Besides, if there was anything wrong with adding alternate covers to articles, why is there an {{Extra album cover 2}} template? This template is more than a proof that there's absolutely nothing wrong with adding extra covers, therefore I'm going to reupload the image. Funk Junkie (talk) 17:48, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:AliceBattenberg.jpg

Your reason for deletion of this image was invalid. It is not a bit-for-bit copy of Image:Prinzessin Victoria Alice Elisabeth Julie Marie von Battenberg, 1907.jpg. The latter is quite obviously copied from Majesty magazine, as can be seen from both text in the lower left corner, and the text bleeding through the image from the other side of the magazine page. My image is a much cleaner version. DrKiernan (talk) 07:45, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes I noticed that your image is not a bit-for-bit version, I just thought that it is a cropped version and could be deleted. Carlosguitar (ready and willing) 08:04, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Irresponsible editing

Boo. Your deletion of the Damon Dogg page shows poor judgment. I was reading the arguments for deletion when I doubled back and found that the page was gone. The arguments in favor of keeping the page were compelling. A quick glance at the user profile of the original flagger confirmed my suspicion: he targets gay porn actor profiles for removal. I was trying to figure out how to fix the stingray page but you did everything I didn't know how to do almost exactly when I did. Good job and good work. thank you.

Pity you did not give me time to knock the page into shape.

I had to leave work on the Aedas page as I had to go out. I have come back to find it deleted already so will have to start all over again. I am well aware it looked like blatent advertising because it was lifted from an Aedas brochure. I have several links to buildings in Wikipedia that were designed by Aedas along with innovative work in building modelling which is also referred to in Wikipedia. This is my first attempt at doing this so my apologies if it has offended you. Hopefully my next attempt will meet with your approval.

Re:Revert war

My apoligies, after I warned them the final time I reported the IP but it took a while for the block to be placed (The IP was making four edits a minute at one point). I was actually in the middle of filing for page protection for those two pages but along came multiple sockpuppets attacking my talkpage the very same time the IP was putting clearly incorrect information in the article and then I was accidentally blocked(explained two sections above your comment on my talkpage I think) then was unblocked but my IP remained autoblocked so I never got the chance to complete filing the page protection. But isn't reverting BLP violations an exception to 3RR but either way, I'll be faster filing the page protection in future. AngelOfSadness talk 12:44, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Block

I was away for about a week. I come back on the weekend to find out I've been blocked for a "personal attack". The thing is I wasn't too surprised to find out the administrator who blocked me was you. Ever since you turned into an administrator I had a feeling one day this would come back to bite me. We have a history of personal problems, and something tells me that is the main motivation behind this block. I think considering the fact you obviously don't like me, if you felt offended by a comment I made, the correct way to resolve the matter would be to pass it on to a neutral administrator (that is, and administrator that isn't your friend).

I think calling someone "Mr. I'm Always Right" may not be the most civil manner to address the person, but I think it's a really mild act that should at most have led to a warning.

I have never been warned by an administrator before. The only "warnings" I received came from you (when you were still an ordinary user and were already having problems with me) and from a a neutral user who disliked my choice of words when I was replying an unpolite message I received from Opinoso. At the time I felt I didn't personally attack Opinoso, although I did admit my comments were not civil, thus, I publicly apologized. This happened almost an year ago. Since then I've been involved in some debates, but I was never involved in a situation of personal problems with other users. I don't think it's fair of you to relive a single event that occured almost one year ago to support your case against me. Something tells me a neutral administrator would never block me for the reason you blocked me.

I also think it's interesting to note you tell me you warned me for being uncivil, but when I warned you for the same reason (you called my opinion a "theatre" or something to that effect) you simply disconsidered my "warning" as harassment. At the time we were both ordinary users - in your mind your warning was perfectly placed in my talk page while my warning to you was considered harassment, although you were clearly not very civil towards me... "theatre"... I don't remember you ever apologizing for this, although you were clearly uncivil according to your own standards.

I have to ask myself - if I had to be blocked for 31 hours due to something minor such as calling you "Mr. I'm Always Right", shouldn't you have been blocked for calling my opinion a "theatre"? It's the same type of act, with the same level of intensity. I personally think little things like this should be overlooked, but if you think users deserve a blocking, then the same rule must apply to you as well.

I've never tried to offend you. Never. On the contrary, I tried to reason with you several times. Even when we had the long debate on the "social issues" thing, I always took your suggestions into account, and I even agreed with a few of them. You, in the other hand, came into the debate with an "all or nothing" posture. You never ever agreed with anything I said - is it reasonable to believe you are always right and I'm always wrong? At the time Dali-Llama was the neutral third party and he not only agreed with the "social issues" section, but he also agreed with 80% of the things I said. Again, I have to say I feel you took things too personally. You came into the debate basically saying "I don't agree with anything Sparks has to say, even if I don't know what he has to say".

You also had the habit of tossing rules around without explaining how the situation matched the rule you were evoking. This is not very productive. When you say someone broke a rule, you need to explain how the person broke the rule. Don't forget interpretation depends on the interpretor. Your interpretation is different from mine, and they in turn will both be different from the interpretation of a third party. That means rules and situations may be looked at from multiple angles, and the angle you pick is not always the correct one. Thus, your interpretation of rules and situations is not always the best one.

Let me make it clear I'm not calling you a corrupt administrator - I just think it's almost impossible for anyone to be able to judge someone fairly if they have a history of personal problems with the person they will judge. This is why, in modern Law, the entity that presents an accusation is never the same entity that judges the lawsuit. Human beings are not capable of separating their personal emotions from their judgement in this type of situation. Therefore, I hope the next time you find yourself in a place where you are reprehending someone you don't like, you will pass it forward to another administrator, preferably one that isn't your friend.

I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes. When I make mistakes I reconsider and I apologize. Do you feel you are ready to do the same?

I tried to talk to you many times. You always read everything I said (since you are good at quoting me), but you never replied. Was "not replying" the best way to deal with the problems you had with me? You were an ordinary user at the time. Now you are an administrator, and replying is one of your jobs. I hope you use this opportunity to end all of these problems once and for all. If you have anything to say to me, now may be a good time to do it.

Cheers.

Hi, you need to ask the author of image to license under {{GFDL}}, {{PD}}, {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} or any other free license. Take a look on Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Unfortunately images with only permission to be used on Wikipedia are not acceptable, so you will need to ask again the author of this image to license under a specific license. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 02:18, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Well I don't think he cares, so how do I do it?►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:27, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
You need a permission from him. Contact the author of image to license under {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} or any other free license, if he agrees then you can upload a the image again. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 08:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
But since he's the author and I'm not, can I still upload it? That license says "I, the copyright holder of this work... etc."►Chris NelsonHolla! 08:19, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
You can use {{cc-by-sa-3.0|Name of author}} {{PD-because|Author XXX licensed under public domain}}, et cetera. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 08:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay I think I got it, thanks.►Chris NelsonHolla! 08:37, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Is Ibanez ART series notable? You probably know something about guitars. Cheers. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 01:12, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Carlos, how are you? The notable Ibanez models that I know are Ibanez#Production Signature Models (Past & Present) which have signature of very notable guitarists and some basic models. This new model was created few time ago and the article is nearly to WP:NOT#DICT, so I think you can PROD or AFD without prejudice. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 02:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

0,,10784~3372896,00.jpg Rights

I have just recently tried to put a picture on the Radio Diamonds article (0,,10784~3372896,00.jpg).... this was deleted.

I work for Radio Diamonds, and I have the rights to use the logo on this site, however I do not know what option to choose when uploading.

What one do I chose??

Thanks,

Kev. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dylans harmonica (talkcontribs) 09:01, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

You need to ask the author of image to license under a free license such as {{GFDL}}, {{PD}}, {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} or any other. If the image is copyrighted, you may use the image with {{logo}} license with a fair use rationale. Images copyrighted without fair use rationale are deleted. Cheers. Clean up Civility

Thanks for fixing that wiki link on the Civ. page and placing the info properly. I played around with it but, couldn't figure out how to do it. Now that I see what you've done I can see where I made a mistake and how to do it next time.(olive (talk) 14:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC))

Deletion of image

Hey Carlos,

Can you give me a little assistance here?

I see you deleted an image that I uploaded. The image belongs to the company I work for. I actually created it. I would like to re-upload it but I need to know what I did wrong so I don't do it again.

I am sure I documented it incorrectly, but I am not sure what the correct fair-use, ownership, etc., info is that I should input.

I have tried to read as much info as possible but I am having a real tough time slogging through all the tutes trying to learn how to post.

Any help is greatly appreciated

thanks,

Shawn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jopa123 (talkcontribs) 21:52, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Shawn, do you want to license the image under fair-use or license under a free license for commercial and derivative works? Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 05:51, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Carlos, once again excuse my ignorance, but I don't know what either of those means. If I had to gues, it would probably be a fair-use license. It is basically mine to use, but I would prefer that noone else out there use it (for commercial purposes, although I do not know how they would) without my consent. Does this make sense? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jopa123 (talkcontribs) 16:08, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Carlos, I believe I may have found my answer with the help of one of your discussions above. Thanks for you help. Shawn
Cool, you have learned fast, if you have more questions, feel free to give me. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 04:59, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Wikiquette alert notification

Hi there. I just wanted to advise you that a Wikiquette alert involving you is being discussed here. It looks to me like the discussion at the Mediation case has just gotten a bit heated, but you may wish to comment anyway. Thanks! --Jaysweet (talk) 15:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it would be good if you can make a response to the concerns there. Cheers - Ncmvocalist (talk) 16:10, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
He explained on my talk page that he is working it out at the Mediation. I think it is okay... --Jaysweet (talk) 16:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh. Sorry, didn't notice that - cheers again. Ncmvocalist (talk) 16:37, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Warning explanation

I gave a level 3 warning to Rancelan because they recreated the same article three times and it was deleted all three times. Also, each time they recreated it, they saw the notices that said it had been deleted for blatant advertising. I don't think it was a WP:BITE case.--Finalnight (talk) 04:06, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Just remind to warn the user about the speedy deletion with {{subst:spam-warn|Free Deleted File Reovery Tool|header=1}} ~~~~
You tagged 2 times the same article without warning properly the author. The user probably was recreating the article because was not understand why his/her article suddenly disappear. So giving the proper warnings is strong recommend. Cheers. Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 04:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
My apologies, the last two times they were tagged, they were deleted with little time to give notice as I am not using an automated tool. I will try to give more speedy warnings in the future.--Finalnight (talk) 04:23, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Reinstatement of "The Falconator" article.

Please reinstate "The Falconator" article so that I may change it to better reflect the principles of Wikipedia. Thank you for informing me of this error in my judgement, and rest asured, I will change it so that it will indeed be seen as nothing but fantasy. I never intended to mislead the public, and was only trying to bring understanding to the legend that I have concieved. If this is the wrong place to do so, please reinstate the article so that I may reproduce it (I have made no copies, and wish to make an exact replica of the original) and post it elswhere. Thank you for your time, and for keeping Wikipedia free of hoax's. --Demosthenes87 (talk) 22:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

At least send me a copy, Which I just read some admins can do. --Demosthenes87 (talk) 20:51, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello? --Demosthenes87 (talk) 04:19, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Do you have sources for your article? I cannot restore your article because it has heavy issues with WP:Notability and WP:Verifiability and probably would be speedily deleted again by another admin if these issues not be addressed. Cheers Carlosguitar (Yes Executor?) 08:11, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I understand, and no I don't have any sources other than hearsay. It is a legend, but not a documented one. Can you at least send me a copy of the original? I would like to not have to go through the work of writing it again for another publication site. Thank you. --Demosthenes87 (talk) 13:20, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
