Thanks for the links but I have read all of them before :).

For now, I haven't located a high-reputed historian who dare to confirm this "accident Vietnamese characters set" set by publishing a book in Vietnam (both pre-1975 and post-1975). Thanks for adding a fair use rationale to the article. However, it looks like you just copied and pasted the existing rationale and changed the article title. The reason you gave for including the image in Fall of Saigon is:

It is used to identify the image in the section As it happens of the article Fall of Saigon, which deals with this photograph itself as its primary topic of encyclopedic discussion. The article discusses the creation of this photograph and its historical public impact.

There are a few issues here:

1. There is no "As it happens" section in the article
2. The photo itself is never the subject of any discussion, let alone the primary topic.

No problem. To make a fair use rationale, you really just need to answer the following questions on the image description page:

1. Which article do you want to use the image in?
2. Why does the reader need to see that specific picture in that specific article? What educational point is it putting across?
3. Why couldn't you use a freely licensed alternative?
4. Have you used the smallest possible portion of the image, and the lowest possible resolution? If not, why not?

You are mistaken because it says belligerent in the infobox. By definition to internationl laws of war, a belligerent country is different from a neutral country, but can include combatant, non combatant, or special combatant etc. A non belligerent country that aides a belligerent is also considered a belligerent but not a combatant since there isn't direct fighting involved. Yet the non belligerent becomes a belligerent by use of military aid which was what happened. Again the infobox list is for belligerents not just combatants exclusively. I DO NOT have to provide a source. By DEFINITION according to Hague of 1907. Please do not change it again. Cheers.Sea888 (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

In war a country that was a belligerent in the beginning(meaning heavily involved in the war) that becomes a non combatant(removal of combative troops, or having support troops) the country is to abide by international laws of war, Hague 1907. When the U.S. aided the evacuation with troops(non combatant) and logistics(equipment, helicopters, radio, phone, material, time, energy, money) the non combatant(United States) is STILL involved in the war. Thus Belligerent is different from combatant in that way. With this there is also ONE more important thing, A belligerent country if having military aid or personel in the hostile country(territory fighting over) the belligerent must have a COMMANDER in charge. Otherwise it could be defined as a group of spies or terrorists etc. During the Fall of Saigon the military aid and personel were under direct orders from Gerald Ford, commander in chief of the United States Military. Maybe you should add the U.S. and Soviet. A belligerent can have combatants or non combantants basically that's what it is. Art. 3. The armed forces of the belligerent parties may consist of combatants and non-combatants. In the case of capture by the enemy, both have a right to be treated as prisoners of war.

Le Van Duyet

Can you check the thing going to Phu Quoc in 1777? Thanks for starting the article, he must have been one of the most famous Vietnamese people to not have a biography yet, Dao Duy Tu and Truong Vinh Ky are the other two that come to mind, although there are probably many other famous ones that I can't remember. Unfortunately, English language books are only follow VN from Gia Long onwards, and even then not much until the 1850s. Do high school students in VN still have to learn about Dao Duy Tu's poems and such. In my parents' day it was, and they can still memorise the famous poem about trầu where the Trinh used a covert metaphorical song? to try and woo DDT back after he went south and he replied with that poem about betel and marriage so that the Nguyen wouldn't know that he was talking with the enemy. Hi, do you still live in Vietnam? If yes, please help me to check the origin of Trần Thừa from another source, in Đại Việt sử kí toàn thư Ngô Sĩ Liên wrote in Cao Tông Hoàng Đế: "Crown Prince went to Lưu Gia village..." (p. 153, e-book version) which means Trần Thừa came from Lưu Gia village (now Lưu Xá, Hưng Hà, Thái Bình) while in Thái Tông Hoàng Đế it was read: "Trần Kinh went to Tức Mặc, Thiên Trường,..." (p. 159, e-book version) which means Trần Thừa came from hương (district?) Tức Mặc (now Tức Mặc, Mỹ Lộc, Nam Định). Trần Trọng Kim's work is complicated too (p. 47, e-book version). I think (but not sure) that Trần Lý (Trần Thừa's father) was really from Tức Mặc but he moved the family to Lưu Gia? If you have time, please help me to check it out.

Naming convention

Hi, Vietnamese in the old time, especially nobles and scholars, should be refered by their full name (Trần Bình Trọng), family name (Trần) or courtesy name, not by his given name (Trọng), in historical books, someone was called by his given name only for a derogatory meaning, so please be careful (naming convention for modern Vietnamese is different, of course). For that reason, template {{Vietnamese name}} is also suitable only for article about modern Vietnamese. And calling Vietnamese noble by their title (not at all honorific, but their real title) like Bảo Nghĩa hầu is totally normal (like Hưng Đạo vương, Chiêu Văn vương,...) so your edit about naming in article Trần Bình Trọng is not really appropriate and so I changed it back. Oscar Chapuis uses both words "official" and "mandarin" to denote the concept "quan lại", "mandarin" seems more "classical" but can you find a detailed document in English about administrative system in medieval Vietnam so that I can be sure about the translation? Well, a small update. I recently purchased (for zero USD) the document "TCVN 2242:1977 Quốc kỳ Cộng hòa xã hội chủ nghĩa Việt Nam. Cờ may bằng vải (National flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. YellowMonkey and friends evidently have a hard time dealing with the real story of Vietnam. Classical Chinese traditions and, yes, the actual language has been and remains a significant factor among the Vietnamese elite. For example, the article on Sun_Tzu specifically notes the following (emphasis added):

Ho Chi Minh translated the work for his Vietnamese officers to study.

Let's have the courage to look at Vietnam in context, instead of airbrushing out the facts that do not fit into the mass-propaganda picture created by Vietnam's intellectuals since the late 1800s. WikiFlier (talk) 03:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Evidently, you did not take the trouble to read the Chinese source I provided in the cite. I took the trouble to summarize the gist of the cited document on the discussion page.

Unless you simply did not trouble to read the cited source, I must assume you are unable to read Chinese. This puts you in the position of a color-blind man asked to judge prize the hue of rose petals. If you cannot make a useful contribution yourself, please refrain from vandalizing the contributions of others. Appropriate action will be taken in the event of repetition of such action. The reason I'm asking this is that I commented/questioned on the second move request. If I had been able to see your original oppose on the first RM I might also have opposed. But immediately before the 2nd RM an IP set up an archive to send the previous RM and your oppose to an archive. I basically now consider this a move tainted by IP puppetry. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days.
