Would like to add a cause, manner, and mechanism of death to this article and other similar articles. Cause being gunshot, manner being murder, mechanism being exsanguination. Would be interesting to research and add changes to others as well

Also X wasn't necessarily a mumble rapper, but a new generation rapper, therefore affiliated genres should be "New Gen Rap"

Thank you very much Nick24568 (talk) 06:47, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

In the section about his legal issues, the taped 'confession' wasn't considered a confession by the court and the sources used in the article didn't mention anything like; the court dropped the case after X passed under unfortunate circumstances. The taped confession wouldn't even be valid as X won't be there to defend himself, which is his right and since he is dead, he can't do so, and it was taped without him knowing, so it is ineligible to be used in court. Thus it wasn't considered a confession under court just because some tabloids says so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kylicious (talkcontribs) 20:23, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

The tape has been discussed in RS and merits inclusion for its interest and its being reported in RS. The wording of this section may need to be tightened up , but constant wholesale removal of a paragraph that is of interest, and the content of said paragraph has been reported on in RS, is not right imo. RS discuss and comment on this issue - From the Guardian piece, 'Some argue that as Onfroy can no longer face punishment by the state, his guilt no longer matters and that reporting on this recording is futile. But given what his victim went through, both at his hands and at those of his most virulent fans, the vindication of her claims does in fact matter, even if solely as a moral victory.', so to find no mention in wikipedia would look like a form of deafness to the talk in RS. 78.147.55.81 (talk) 14:10, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Request to change image

Request to change the image used of the artist in his biography. Current image is a mugshot (2016). While it is valid to make the point of the artist's arrest, it may be considered widely disrespectful to use this image when there are many promotional images online which portray him less negatively, reducing bias on this article. Furthermore it may be distressing to friends, relatives and supporters of the dead to open this page and see the mugshot and not an image which the artist may have approved of more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ukuleleswift (talkcontribs) 20:39, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Infobox genres

Can a consensus be met on the unfobox genres? I think either all his listed genres should be part of the musical style section or a certain number of sources must be found for a genre to be included in the infobox. Despite this I think the best genres are Hip hop, emo, lo-fi, trap, and R&B as these are sone of the most consistent among his solo studio album releases and are broader terms. More specufic genres like emo rap or trap metal should be out in his musical style section. Dekai Averett (talk) 00:24, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

We should instead be highlighting what he did artistically with his music. So possibly a photo of him on stage. Maybe a photo of him smiling. I dont believe that we should play into the narrative of him being such a bad person and that mugshot being the first thing people see when they look him up is doing exactly that. 2604:6000:1007:10C:11F2:4DAD:B22:1798 (talk) 18:00, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

so what’s the problem with him having 13 genres if they’re all sourced? do tell! EveryonesFAVORITE*toy (talk) 03:24, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Hip hop wasn't his only genre, there was other genres included with sources cited but have been removed. 88.111.139.176 (talk) 14:49, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
The instructions at Template:Infobox musical artist#genre say that we should "aim for generality" and that there should be "two to four" of them listed. Not thirteen.
My long-term stance about genre in a biography is that the sources should be talking about the artist's genre. We should not be taking album genres or song genres and stacking them up to create the artist's genre, which would be a violation of WP:SYNTH. So the question is, what do the sources say about XXXTentacion as an artist? Mostly they say he was a rapper. They don't call him a mumble rapper, nor a Soundcloud rapper, nor an emo rapper, etc. Binksternet (talk) 15:14, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Hip hop is far from the only genre he did, he did R&B and rock too among others. His albums "17", "?" and "Skins" all have subgenres of rock in the genres. 88.111.139.176 (talk) 11:53, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Did you see what I said? An artist's genre is not taken from this or that song, not taken from albums. The artist's genre is taken from reliable sources talking about him and his genre. Nobody has ever called him an R&B artist. Nobody has ever called him a rock artist. Binksternet (talk) 12:17, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

so the artist’s genre wouldn’t derive from their music? please tell me we’re not dense. and the “aim for generality” thing you put up (idc to look and see what its called) says PREFERABLY that doesn’t mean the artist should always have two to four genres. and plus hip hop isn’t the only genre that uses rapping, so just singularly describing him as a hip hop artist based off the fact that he’s been called a rapper would be just wrong. that’s like seeing someone being called a singer and being like “oh, he’s an r&b artist” when all of his albums, eps, and singles are alternative metal. EveryonesFAVORITE*toy (talk) 06:27, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Genres are based on what is written in our reliable sources. If you try and "derive" an artist's genre from their music then you are violating WP:No original research. Binksternet (talk) 08:15, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

THE SOURCES PULL WHATEVER GENRE HE IS FROM HIS MUSIC, NOT ME, I PULL IT FROM THE SOURCE. PLEASE TELL ME WE’RE NOT DUMB.EveryonesFAVORITE*toy (talk) 01:09, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

@Binksternet:@EveryonesFAVORITE*toy: The genre box isn't representing his wide range of styles and influences well enough (seemingly only interested in his rock and trap influences). Listen to songs like "Looking for a Star", an island-pop/tropical house number, "Infinity (888)", an ode to jazz rap and old-school East Coast hip hop and the 1960s doo-wop influence heard on "Falling Down". 2A02:C7D:892B:3D00:1D04:C850:EFB2:C22D (talk) 23:03, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

If you're telling us to "listen to songs" in order to derive the genres, then you are advocating a violation of WP:No original research. Wikipedia is based on WP:SECONDARY sources, not interested editors listening to songs and comparing notes. So the thing to do is, go find some reliable sources and see what they say about the genre(s) of XXXTentacion. You'll be looking for descriptions of XXXTentacion as a musical artist, not descriptions of his songs or albums. Report back after you do that. Binksternet (talk) 23:17, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

In my opnion the infobox genres need major cleaning up. I say the genres can be simplified to these 5 and still be accurate:

Wikipedia isn't going to go off your opinion. We need to have reliable sources stating those genres. —C.Fred (talk) 00:50, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

I think a consensous shoukd be made to how many sources are necessary to include in the infobox. Certain genres in the infobox currently such as "scream rap" do not even actually have their own page and others such as punk rock and heavy metal are not directly used to describe his albums. Probably the best sourced genres are Hip hop, emo, lo-fi, R&B, and trap. I think these should be the infobox genres and others shoukd be put in the musical style section aling with their sources. Dekai Averett (talk) 04:31, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

that's stupid in so many ways if he does all of the genres he does , why not put all of them there : hip hop , horrorcore , heavy metal , lo-fi , indie rock , alternative r&b , spoken word , emo , emo rap , trap and sadcore. i don't know why y'all fighting against the truth , and he could also do pop but let´s just forget about that and his album " ? " his classified has Pop but you didn't put it there so - kyra666 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kyra jizen (talkcontribs) 21:26, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

I definitely think the genres should be cut down, per Template:Infobox Musical Artist, which states they should "aim for generality", by having a few genres to encompass all rather every single one sourced. I would say the best way to do this would be with: hip hop, rock, r&b. Issan Sumisu (talk) 16:47, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

Wording

Hello

Do you not believe the wording in this phrase is bad? Even if it is gramatically correct, it is placing emphasis on the second place: In the week following his death, Onfroy's highest-charting single, "Sad!", went from 52nd to 1st on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first artist to top the Hot 100 posthumously in a lead role since The Notorious B.I.G., with "Mo Money Mo Problems", in 1997. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.160.39 (talk) 23:19, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

Evidence against domestic abuse

It's not "evidence" at all, the main crux of their "argument" is that the medical record says she wasn't pregnant - but that doesn't mean she wasn't assaulted, or that he wasn't the assailant. Having this medical record would be a primary source, and a lot of mental gymnastics to say he was innocent. Unknown Temptation (talk) 16:23, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Example, this person has sold less than 15 million records over 4 years and there are 8000 words in his article. The page is locked and I can't edit but if I could I'd change these inaccurate genres to trap metal, a genre often associated with Onfroy which he helped pioneer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:3846:4500:61C9:6807:E151:5165 (talk) 06:11, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

These genres fit Template:Infobox musical artist the best because they are broad. Trap metal is a fusion of rap and metal, both of which are in the infobox, meaning that trap metal is encompassed through their inclusion. Issan Sumisu (talk) 06:38, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

I believe that punk rock in the info box should be replaced with alternative rock as the genres his albums have been referred to as (such as emo, grundge, and of course alternative rock) are all sub genres of alternative or alternative itself. There aren’t no direct punk rock sub genres that his music is catergorized under. Dekai Averett (talk) 02:31, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

When this page had its massive amount of genres (pre-August 23rd), the only one of those genres you mentioned, that was sourced was emo, which began as an offshoot of Washington D.C. hardcore punk and at the very least when it began it was a sub-genre of punk rock. But, if you provide a source to say he's played alt rock it would apt for inclusion, however I seem to be having a problem finding a reliable source which directly says he played it. Photo change

Hello,

I don't have the authority to do this as I am not verified, but can someone please change the photo on this article? He was an artist and an activist who had a hard life that involved growing up in the system. There is no reason for his photo to be his mugshot, this sends the wrong impression about who he was and what he stood for.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hubertsc (talkcontribs) 17:16, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

@Hubertsc Unfortunately, the reason that the photo used is his mugshot is because that's the highest-quality picture of Jahseh that fits Wikipedia/WikiCommons's Creative Commons guidelines for images. If you have a photo of him that is both high-quality and CC-compliant, I'm sure there wouldn't be an issue changing it. However, I can't find many CC-compliant images of Jahseh, so this probably is the only viable option until another image in the public domain surfaces. Infobox genres

The infobox genres should be changed to more properly describe XXXTentacion’s sound. All of his albums are labeled as either alternative rock or a direct subgenre (emo, grunge, etc). Alternative rock however is not featured in the infobox in place of punk rock and heavy metal which do not feature in his album infoboxes at all. I think punk rock should be removed entirely and replaced with alternative rock and heavy metal should be replaced with nu metal, a genre X has been described at multiple times. I formally request that you change XXXTENTACION‘s picture of a mug shot to a normal picture of him because that is unfair that you use a mug shot at his normal picture he’s not a criminal just because he’s black I find it racist that you do that I believe you should create a place where information is given without bias because this is Wikipedia where people everybody goes to look stuff up and find out who somebody is and if you use a mug shot you make that person seem like they are a bad person he’s not a bad person he was not a bad person and I believe that it’s extremely unfair that you do that he did nothing wrong and what they said he did wrong was proven untrue in a court no I request that you change his mug shot to just a normal picture of him and a sweater or anything else showing his face other than a mug shot because I know for certain that there are plenty of pictures of his face without being a mug shot thank you for your time and I urge you to do so soon Ciao

The years active is supposed to represent the time that X is himself releasing the music (whether it is with the help of the label/estate or not), not with the input of the label or estate alone. X himself was releasing music from 2013 until his passing in 2018. Look at Pop Smoke's page, his years active is 2018-2020, but his label or estate is releasing posthumously past his years active. For example, the song, "AP" for the soundtrack for the film, "Boogie", was released in 2021. NinHawk8940 (talk) 20:27, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

  • A (Summoned by bot) It looks like a studio headshot, he's practically posing for it. You'd be hard pressed to find a better free photo. The fact that it's a WP:MUGSHOT matters somewhat, but I think it would matter more if his crimes were not a notable part of his biography, which they are (the legal issues section of this article is quite long). It would also matter more if this were a particularly bad mugshot, which it is definitely not. ––FormalDude talk 04:43, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Summary does not accurately reflect the content of the longer entry: specifically, it does not refer to the numerous acts of violence inflicted by XXXTentacion

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The article contains significant entries about the artist's repeated acts of violence. These are well summarised in the Guardian obituary [ref 258]: "He will be remembered mostly for the unusually cruel violence he committed on vulnerable people, particularly his ex-girlfriend, crimes for which he never expressed remorse."

The article summary makes no mention of violence, and does refer to acts of charity. This paints a misleading impression of both the artist's life and legacy. In order to be accurate and objective - qualities Wikipedia is valued for - I believe that the article summary should refer to the artist's violence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.111.87.52 (talk) 11:11, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Genres

That list of genres Is beyond ridiculous. Just put emo rap, all those other unsourced/poorly sourced genres need to be cut. 25 genres for one artist seems beyond ridiculous 109.52.8.15 (talk) 16:34, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

You are right, it's pretty bad. The instructions at Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre say we should be using two to four genres in the infobox. If someone was a leading figure in a genre, we should definitely put it in the infobox. XXXTentacion was very, very well known for his emo rap and SoundCloud rap, certainly a leading figure, which is why I left those two in the infobox.
Also, Template:Infobox_musical_artist#associated_acts says that every entry must be notable, which is why I removed the Very Rare collective. Binksternet (talk) 01:49, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
Provided the support is clear-cut in the majority, I think sometimes four may be too limited for genres and I'd support as many as six in certain cases, but this is completely overkill. There needs to be some trimming done, and deciding which to cut will probably not be a simple issue. As for the AA, I have already removed that, as that is a simple and fairly uncontroversial move. dannymusiceditor oops 02:55, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
I think it’s fair to critcize it as overkill as DannyMusicEditor observed.

Proposal: limit it to these six genres:

I think this would illustrate the subject’s well-known versatility while also keeping the infobox concise. TheXuitts (talk) 07:13, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Note that I'm saying that in certain cases I'd take up to six, not necessarily that X is one of them. Moreover, I have never heard X referred to as political rap even once. None of his individual collections of recordings (albums, mixtapes) that I know of have ever had sources citing him as such. I think whatever we decide on should be based on a combination of what his style as a whole has been represented as, as well as the majority of his his individual works, in reliable sources. dannymusiceditor oops 14:35, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
Having taken a look at the genres based on that reasoning, I think the most appropriate genres at this time would be emo rap, alternative rock, and trap, with potential for others to be included based on more provided sources. dannymusiceditor oops 04:38, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Actually, just read a sentence in the lead that supports emo rap and SoundCloud rap specifically. I don't know why that's the only place it currently sits in the article, but it's solid support. Maybe it'd be best if we left out alternative rock, by the way; I thought it was in the style section but I confused it with indie rock and the two are not precisely the same. On the other hand, I think trap would still be appropriate. dannymusiceditor oops 04:43, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

I think lo-fi should be included as well as it was a known genre of his. Also either R&B or alternative R&B as he won awards in that genre. I think it would be pretty easy to find reliable sources for emo rap, SoundCloud rap, alternative rock, alternative R&B, trap, lo-fi. TheXuitts (talk) 11:26, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Are you guys good with this? ^ TheXuitts (talk) 19:00, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

I will not be "good" with more than four genres in the infobox. Binksternet (talk) 19:08, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Mainstream sources... What do they say?

Let's take a look at what the mainstream sources say when they describe XXXTentacion as a musician.

  • Variety magazine describes him as a rapper, and says he was a "pioneer in the SoundCloud emo-rap genre".
  • Pitchfork says he was a "SoundCloud rapper" and a rapper.
  • Vulture said the second album was SoundCloud rap.
  • The New York Times described him in terms of hip hop and SoundCloud rap.
  • The Guardian UK described him in terms of hip hop.
  • The Atlantic magazine says he was all over the place, eclectic genre-bending and genre hybrids, but that he was consistently lo-fi.

With sources such as these, I think we should emphasize SoundCloup rap, emo rap and lo-fi music. We are aiming for generality, not trying to name every genre ever published. Binksternet (talk) 20:04, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Looks like an admin protected the page, but I added genres with sources. TheXuitts (talk) 15:11, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
Binksternet, I agree with your assessment, but the way the instruction for genre is listed reads as a guideline, not non-negotiable law. That's what discussions like these are for. How, for example, would you be able to adequately describe artists like Deftones? Linkin Park is also an example of a band who uses more than four. I'm not saying we should have every one X has been described as borrowing from, but I think you should be more open-minded than your initial response expressed.
Anyway, yes, I do believe those three should have emphasis, with this being used to support the former two as well. As for R&B, I would like to call for that to be removed. Award wins for general genres like that should not be used to represent an overview of the artist's work. I could get behind that on individual works, though. dannymusiceditor oops 21:39, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
I’ve heard X be described as R&B quite a few times, but admittedly not from mainstream sources so I won’t entirely protest that. Though I believe award wins/nominations are pretty good indications although I won’t die on that hill. I do think alternative rock should be considered for the infobox. It shouldn’t be too hard to find mainstream sources that characterize him as that as shown in an example here. Hope we can get this resolved soon. TheXuitts (talk) 00:48, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Hey, if there are in fact mainstream sources calling his work(s) R&B or alternative rock, I'm open to at least consider it, I just don't want it the way it is now. Do we agree on that? Also, are there any more of those on alt rock? Because I want this consensus to reflect mainstream consensus, not ours. dannymusiceditor oops 14:33, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

It appears as though mainstream sources describe specific works of X’s as alt rock, not the entire discography. My apologies.

Hope this can be resolved so we can get the page unprotected. TheXuitts (talk) 18:07, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

We should initiate a WP:Request for comment about infobox genres so that we can show an administrator that we have arrived at a consensus. Binksternet (talk) 20:41, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

This article has been downplaying the homophobia issue and domestic violence

Let's not make the mistake of hiding the media response to Onfroy telling Adam22 in April 2016 that he violently attacked his gay cellmate. The negative reponse to this was hu-u-uge. Biographer Jonathan Reiss writes that homophobia was an overarching issue in Onfroy's life from that point forward, and when he died, multiple media outlets portrayed him as a homophobic rapper. CNN's Liz Lazzara wrote a big piece about how the media responded, calling him homophobic. Lazzara said Onfroy should be relegated to obscurity for this and for his domestic abuse crimes.

  • Gay Star News. "Homophobic Rapper XXXTentacion Shot Dead in Florida"
  • Out in Perth: "Homophobic rapper XXXTentacion shot dead in Miami"
  • Gulf News: "XXXTentacion lived a life of violence"

Onfroy was canceled by the Grammy Awards who decided that he would not be included in their "Memoriam" section after his death because of his history of domestic violence.[1] Many media stories talk about the chasm between his known violence and his artistry. This tension should be much more present in the article. Binksternet (talk) 02:35, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

You already added this information so I’m not sure why you’re making a talk page about it TheXuitts (talk) 21:42, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Also, the information on X’s alleged violence is throughout the article consistently. The majority of the “Personal life” section is about the allegations made by Ayala, and his battery case is gone into in detail in the “Legal issues” section. It’s also important to note that X was never convicted of these charges. We may have our opinions on the matter that he was most likely guilty (I believe he was as well, on the domestic battery and witness tampering charges at least; the battery of a pregnant woman and false imprisonment charges are more debatable) but Wikipedia does not report on personal conclusions, it reports on facts. Most Americans believe Michael Jackson was guilty of child abuse,[2] [3] most Americans believe OJ Simpson was guilty of murder,[4] but they were never convicted, so we treat them as what they are in factuality: allegations. Which musical genres should we list in the infobox? Binksternet (talk) 00:14, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Survey

  • SoundCloud rap, emo rap and lo-fi music. The instructions at Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre say we should be displaying two to four genres in the infobox, and I see that three genres have been strongly associated with XXXTentacion in the literature. The most widely supported one is SoundCloud rap, unless you count the great many sources that just call him a rapper, which would indicate the generic term hip hop music. But since we have more specific subgenres of hip hop strongly associated with the artist, it doesn't make so much sense to use the generic term. I think we should list SoundCloud rap first. Binksternet (talk) 00:14, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
I think it would make sense to list hip hop, but I won’t protest whether or not it’s listed. This seems fine to me since these three are the genres in which the subject is undoubtedly a leading figure in. TheXuitts (talk) 10:55, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
  • At least the three Binksternet listed. I support hip hop in the same way TheXuitts does for their position. dannymusiceditor oops 14:31, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
  • At least the three Binksternet listed. I would also add as a side note that Spotify lists X as punk rock, hip-hop, R&B, and heavy metal. TheXuitts (talk) 05:36, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
    • Spotify is not a reliable source. Their genres are machine-generated. Binksternet (talk) 04:03, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
      • No, it is not machine generated as it is a manual description under the artist information. TheXuitts (talk) 07:17, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
        • Okay, but there are two things wrong with that. Self-description is generally discouraged as an overarching infobox label, as it often deviates from the media consensus, and when it doesn't, well, we use those sources instead. Furthermore, in the context of general tags like these, it is even harder to determine the weight of how much these influences or genres actually play into the artist's sound (in other words, the genre's relevance). Sorry I'm late. dannymusiceditor oops 00:24, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
  • The three Binksternet listed - no real use mentioning hip-hop when he is so much more heavily linked with more specific subgenres. My rationale here is that you wouldn't describe a black metal band as "rock", despite that being the overarching parent genre of what they play. PraiseVivec (talk) 10:21, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Discussion

  • We should reach a consensus sooner than later. Have we settled on the three Binksternet listed? TheXuitts (talk) 08:10, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
  • Emo rap, SoundCloud rap, and lo-fi seems to be the obvious consensus at the moment. An admin should recognize this and unprotect the page. TheXuitts (talk) 07:57, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
  • In this specific order: Hip Hop, Soundcloud rap, Emo rap, and then Lo-fi music. Many people don't even know what Soundcloud rap and Emo rap is, and given that after all he is a hip hop artist, it makes sense to put hip hop first. shanghai.talk to me 19:00, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
But Shanghai, X is one of the leading figures in the emo rap and SoundCloud rap genres. While he is also prominent in the hip hop and lo-fi scenes, those are the genres which he is more recognized with. TheXuitts (talk) 08:23, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
@TheXuitts: Yes, but those genres aren't as widespread and most people don't know what differentiates emo rap from Soundcloud rap. He is a prominent figure in those places but, my point is that those places aren't inherently known. I think the order says "he's a hip hop artist that specializes in emo rap and soundcloud rap." would be the easiest. shanghai.talk to me 08:46, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
RogueShanghai, while that is more well known, the people interested in X's article would probably be able to figure out that he is inherently a hip hop artist if he is listed as emo rap or SoundCloud rap. I do not think it is necessary to put it there for readers to understand that. dannymusiceditor oops 17:40, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

XXXTentacion's Music Genres

AllMusic states that XXXTentacion often incorporated elements of punk rock, hip hop, R&B, and heavy metal, so can we please change his music genres in the article's infobox to hip hop, punk rock, R&B, and heavy metal? https://www.allmusic.com/artist/xxxtentacion-mn0003602693/biography 2601:195:C001:2630:F049:46BD:C519:4CF1 (talk) 15:24, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

When the writer says "elements of punk rock, hip-hop, R&B, and heavy metal", he is not talking about the artist's main genres. "Elements" are not main genres. Binksternet (talk) 17:50, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Main photo

I just stumbled on this page, never heard of this person before today. I was shocked that the main photo is a mug shot, I have never seen that done before on Wikipedia. Regardless of the details of the person's life, it seems disrespectful, and a biased comment on his life. There are other photos in the article, could one of those be used instead? 205.169.112.230 (talk) 19:21, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

This seems to be the only photo in the article of the subject that is not a mugshot, and the resolution it too low to make for a good main photo. Ideally we would have a better photo for the lede, but I don't see any other candidates on Commons. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:37, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
@Ohnoitsjamie it does technically violate WP:MUG, as he's not primarily known as a criminal, but as a musical artist.
