Globalization needed

edit

This article seems to deal only with Europe, when storm tides do occur elsewhere in the world. --Coredesat 01:28, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I dont understand what the problem is, the article is dealing with storm tides in the North Sea, which is on the European continental shelf. How can it deal with global storm tides? --AJFurnell (talk) 12:29, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think the global article exists already at Storm surge with a further article at Extratropical storm surge. The North Sea is especially prone to storm surges due to its semi-enclosed nature and bathymetry (shallowing to the south) with certain coastal areas along the south and west margins of the sea having seen some significant disasters. The point of the article is to provide an area to document these storms, and the conditions which cause them. Of course these same conditions also affect nearby areas in Western Europe, notably the Atlantic coasts of France and Spain, Irish Sea, English Channel, Bristol Channel, Baltic Sea and Norwegian Sea, but usually to a lesser degree. The question I think is whether to add notable surges from these areas on this page (Towyn flood Irish Sea 1990, lothar/Martin surge France 1999), or expand it to cover all NW Europe?Lacunae (talk) 17:24, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Article rename

edit

I propose changing the article name to something along the lines of Storm surges of the North Sea as being a perhaps more modern wording, also to reflect that these events are the result of extratropical cyclones and basin topography rather than tides.Lacunae (talk) 17:24, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lede section

edit

Your tag says the lede section needs to be re-written. But I don't think that a lede is necessary for this article. There is nothing to sum-up. Just listings. Valetude (talk) 17:24, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
