Request edit

Dear fellow Wikipedians, I have a COI as an employee of Omniscriptum. I would like to suggest the following updates to the article. Information to be removed: The company specializes in publishing and selling Wikipedia articles; the same individuals are listed as editors of hundreds of thousands of books consisting entirely of content from Wikipedia. Explanation of issue: The statement is false, but most of all it is not referenced. Up till 2013 Omniscriptum Publishing house had two imprints that were specialised to publish Wikipedia content (Alphascript Publishing and Betascript Publishing). This practice was stopped more than 5 years ago. Thus I was wondering could this statement be removed? VarisGrin (talk) 13:50, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

unreferenced statement removal

  • I was wondering would it be possible to remove the second sentence from the second paragraph of the article:

The company specializes in publishing and selling Wikipedia articles; the same individuals are listed as editors of hundreds of thousands of books consisting entirely of content from Wikipedia.

The claims made in the lead section are not normally referenced there. As the lead section summarizes information from the body of the article, the claims described in the lead section are expected to be referenced elsewhere in the article. If I'm not mistaken, the references for the claims you've mentioned are the following:

You've mentioned that this practice ended in 2013. But that claim in the article is unreferenced: As of 2013 onwards, OmniScriptum does not publish any online content, focusing solely on original academic or special interest authors. Even though it can be challenging to prove a negative (that the practice of publishing online content no longer happens) this still should be attempted in order for the claim to be altered. I say altered, because the claim itself cannot be removed, only altered to state that this practice was done at one time but is no longer so. I hope that helps to answer your question.

Thank you for your time and explanation. I see what you mean, thus I would like to propose the following alteration, I hope it is neutral:

"Up till 2013 the company had two imprints that were dedicated to publish Wikipedia articles (Alphascript Publishing and Betascript Publishing - the same individuals are listed as editors of hundreds of thousands of books consisting entirely of content from Wikipedia). The last compilation of Wikipedia articles was published in year 2013 as the company stoped this practice focusing solely on original academic or special interest authors."

The only references that proves the claim is Omniscriptum web page/section Our brands (https://www.omniscriptum.com) where we have all the imprints we operate with. I hope it is sufficient. Could we alter the text as proposed above? VarisGrin (talk) 12:22, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

IMO that is a claim that could be made, but it cannot be made in Wikipedia's voice — it would need to be stated that "According to the company, the last compilation of Wikipedia articles was published in 2013." The reference can be from the company, but it would need to be some sort of statement that they've released on their website for example. Looking there now, I don't see where they give the date of 2013. If you could specify where that was stated on their website, that would be helpful. When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the {{request edit}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=yes to |ans=no. Thanks! Dear @Spintendo:,
thank you for your reply. Yes, we do have this statement published in our web page; here is the link: https://www.omniscriptum.com/faqcriticism/ (there is this section Omniscriptum Publishes Wikipedia Content, where we have explained which imprints were used to publish Wikipedia Content; and when the practice was stopped). So here are the changes we would like to propose:
"Up till 2013 the company had two imprints that were dedicated to publish Wikipedia articles (Alphascript Publishing and Betascript Publishing - the same individuals are listed as editors of hundreds of thousands of books consisting entirely of content from Wikipedia). According to the company, the last compilation of Wikipedia articles was published in year 2013 as the company stoped this practice focusing solely on original academic or special interest authors."

   Edit request implemented

  • As we haven't heard any feedback from local editors suggesting otherwise over the course of 8 days, I've gone ahead and implemented these changes.

Dear @Spintendo:, thank you for implementing the requested change. It is appreciated.
I wanted to know would it be possible to add a list of Omniscriptum imprints. In this preview https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=OmniScriptum&diff=894884203&oldid=894882850 once you scroll down till "Omniscriptum Publishing Group has several imprints" there is a list of imprints. I was wondering could the list be added as previous?
In case you have any questions, please let me know.
VarisGrin (talk) 13:16, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
@VarisGrin: A list of notable imprints would be acceptable. The imprints would be considered notable only if they already have a Wikipedia page established for them. Regards,  Spintendo  21:46, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Dear @Spintendo: Thank you. While we might not have notable imprints yet according to Wikipedia terms, we have a list of prominent authors we would be glad if you could add to Omniscriptum page. I noticed other publishing houses listing their authors in their pages. If possible, could you please add the following list (the list consist of the name of the author, short description, a link to Wikipedia page, I also added links to their books published by us in case you would like to check, but if you need additional information, please let me know).

Here is the list:

Thank you, VarisGrin (talk) 12:45, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

As before, I strongly object to including this list which is poorly sourced and promotional. SmartSE (talk) 13:14, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Dear @SmartSE: thank you, just to clarify - of course I don't want morebooks.de links to be added, here they are only added to prove that the authors have published with Omniscriptum imprints in a first place. If this version is too promotional, maybe we can just make a list of notable people (without adding the reasons they are notable for, as in this example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_A._Knopf - please see the section "Notable authors"). Would that be acceptable?

Dear @SmartSE: and @Spintendo: while indeed over internet there are many reputation damaging blog entries that gives simply bad impression and creates a mistrust towards the company, I would like to assure that as a company we have improved a lot over the years, thus we would be grateful if we could have the same rights as the rest. In regard of notable authors list, is there anything that needs to be added there for the list to be included? Dear @SmartSE: you mentioned it is poorly sourced, could you please let me know what other details are needed, I will be glad to gather the missing information for you.
