OST Tracklisting Wikitable boxes NOT aligned

The question is self-explanatory since I've noticed the wikitable for the Original Soundtrack Tracklisting has its box not aligned to each other. For example, Disc One is not the same as Disc Two in alignment. It's not a big issue but I like articles to be neat and I think you do too. Anyways can someone fix this or teach me how to fix this as I still don't how to work with wikipedia. Thank you. Xangel 12:25, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello. If you are talking about the overall box sizes, they are aligned for me, so I wouldn't know. If you are talking about individual columns from 1 table to the other, then this is normal. This is because columns of wikitables in Wikipedia dynamically resize according to text size, window width etc...

It is indeed to do things, like setting column width to a fixed width (style="width:150px"), but this is not recommended, because it only looks good on a fixed browser size. You can however, fix the columns to a percentage of the table size (style="width:30%"). Although this is possible, it is kinda useless, since the dynamic resize of wikitable is optimized for the best calculations of these.

It is true that the columns are not aligned, but it is to make every table look the best possible, and keep the text in some columns from line breaking.

Finally, it is accepted on wikipedia not to put undue formating where not necessary. For example, in these tables, we could indeed align the columns, put a 5px indent on the number columns, and have them align to the right, have to song titles be centered align etc etc etc, but it does not really bring anything to the article, so we did not do it. (compare with the table in Shadow of the Colossus: Roar of the Earth, and the size of it's code)

To answer your initial question, YES, it is possible to align the columns, but this would require a tad heavy and constricting formating. NO, there is not a simple tag style="columns:aligned" that could fix it in a jiffy.happypal (Talk | contribs) 02:13, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that happypal. If you say that they look aligned to you then you must have your resolution on 1024x768 or something like that. I just bought a new 32" LCD TV screen having my resolution as 1280x768 and believe me you can really see a difference. Anyways I got nothing better to do and I'm happy to fix this. I have finally done it. It was simple really. I just copied and paste. If there are any problems to what I did then revert the edit. This is what i did at the start of each disc of the OST:

My screen res is 1280*800. I could see the un-aligned columns, I wasn't sure if you were talking about the overall table size though (which are all aligned at 70% of the screen size).

I guess the tables look better now. The "problem" is that now you'd have to do the same thing for all the "Music of" articles etc. I'll agree it's nice to have aligned tables, but it's kinda hard to maintain it as a standard across 100s of different pages. Recent Minor Edits to the Article

I'd like to mention that Happypal is doing minor edits to this article. I'm not bad mouthing him, but only to discuss whether his edits are correct. He had made the following changes: track names and tracks to title, and the Soundtracks names are taken off the track lisitngs. Compare my edit (Xangel) to his under "History" to see what he has done. In comparisson to another article, Music of Kingdom Hearts has their track lisitngs with the soundtrack title names.

P.S. I want to mention that I have organized the track lisitng for the Final Fantasy X Official Soundtrack by placing the Translated name in the "Original Track Name" column under the romanized Japanese track name, and replaced the unnecesary initials of the composers in the "By" column with their actual full names (Also I added Tidus and Yuna in "By" for the Skits at the beginning and end). I must add that I don't know about the song "Sudeki da ne" in the track listing as I made changes around it. Xangel 13:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

First off, let me start by saying thank you for your contributions, which were actually quite nice. I don't think it has anything to do with what you said previously, but since it's in a Post Scriptum, I don't think it's supposed to.

For the changes I made, it is to follow the WP:Albums guidelines (see WP:ALBUM#Track listing). Since we are already in the album subsection, writing "Album track listing", would be redundant, compared to "Track listing", so we don't put it in. Also, "title" is preferred to "track name".

Finally, I am well aware that Music of Kingdom Hearts uses the old "Album track listing" format, as it was I who pushed to bring back track listings in the body of "Music of" articles, through the use of collapsible. What you see on KH is just a copy of what I did for FF. If you want to know, I have been making updates to this on the Music of Final Fantasy VII page. Soon, I will update FFX to look like it (tonight actually). Check it out, or WP:FF, to see what these changes are all about.

You should know I was actually FOR keeping the titles "Album track listing" on the FFVII page, pointing to FFX's saying "lokk at that page, it's also like that". That's never a good argument.

Official English Tracklist

I'm just wondering were one could find the official English tracklist from the FFX albums. I only have the jap album, so I don't know, but if there is no link to an official site, we'll have changes to the track names forever. Well, I surfed both SquareEnix and iTunes stroe. S-E links to the iTunes store, but I find those names to be hardly official. For starters, 2 songs are missing!! (the monologues) What's more, there are typos (or at least, weird translations): "hum of fayth"???

I personally find that these names aren't that official, and they pretty much suck overall (As far as I know, it's always been or "To Zanarkand" but not "Zanarkand", like in the current page).That or "Hymn of fayth - Something" and not "Hymn - Something".

Anyways, for the good of having a stable page, I understand that we have to choose a "Final" version, and that the current iTunes one. I agree to this decision. However, I think that having two columns "translated" and "official" would be for the best, or putting the translation in the "Original Name". What do you think? We can't have a never ending battle for things like "brass de Chocobo" vs "Chocobo Jam". Artists

I'd like to see the creation of a column which says who wrote each song, as Nobuo Uematsu did not write them all. I'd do this myself, but I left my soundtrack with booklet elsewhere, and I don't have access to it. I also can't seem to find this on internet. This is my first Good Article review, so apologies if there are any unintentional slip ups. The article is very promising and with others in the series to compare it to it should be fairly straightforward.

Indeed. Minor improvements are happening to the article, but there's no major content changes.

• It is illustrated, where possible and appropriate, by images

All images and sound samples have been checked and have fair use rationales included

That leaves us with:

• It is well written.

The content is good, but there are a some sections that need rewording slightly here or there. It's nothing major, it's just to help improve readability or clear up confusion.

• Lead - couple of minor points

An EP entitled feel/Go dream: Yuna & Tidus containing additional singles not present in the game was released by DigiCube in 2001, and Piano Collections Final Fantasy X, a collection of piano arrangements of the original soundtracks arranged for the piano by Masashi Hamauzu and performed by Aki Kuroda, was released by DigiCube in 2002 and re-released by Square EA in 2004. - look at breaking this sentence up.

The music was overall well received... - change to The music was well received overall

• Creation and influence - Is there any information on production timescales? Were these works that were quick to produce, or was it a long and drawn out process? If the information's not available don't worry, it was just a thought.

I'm not sure I understand why Suteki da ne is not listed under Albums

"Suteki da ne" has an in-game version together with an orchestrated version used as part of the ending theme. - where/how is the in-game version used? Is it just atmospheric/background music, or is it used in cutscenes etc?

Feel/Go Dream - It was first released in Japan by DigiCube on 11 October 2001, - if there were no subsequent releases, this word is unnecessary.

• Reception and legacy - a few minor points

while some reviewers felt it to be an "absolutely amazing" soundtrack, others only found it to be a "satisfying" work that was "not quite all [they] were hoping for". - no need for [they] as it's a direct quote and breaks up the sentence too much. If the original was we, maybe swap it back to that. Otherwise it might be an idea to rephrase that last part.

Several reviewers felt that of the three composers, Uematsu's pieces were the weakest, citing them as "sub-par" and having a tendency to be "buried" under the compositions of the other composers. - consider removing the last composers and finishing as the others.

Piano Collections Final Fantasy X, however, was very well received - no need for the however as there's no contrasting happening. Additionally, it might be an idea to look at merging this with the following sentence and tweaking phrasing slightly.

Final Fantasy X Vocal Collection, however, was poorly received by critics. - this is fine as it demonstrates the contrast in reception between Piano Collections and Vocal Collection

The Black Mages have arranged three pieces from Final Fantasy X. - maybe put in a few words to illustrate who they are (Uematsu's rock group). Nothing major, just to clarify it for the reader.

That's all I can come up with. I'll mark the review as on hold and keep watching the page. This is my first GA review, so I'll make a final scan through if it's alright once we've settled the above, although I don't think there will be anything further. Tidus and Yuna Sky Theme

Quick google search is telling me that the song was released in an album that was given out at Tokyo Game Show 2001. It's not from any actual FFX album, which is why you can't find it in the article. --PresN (talk) 15:10, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

The Tidus and Yuna Sky theme is not in any of the FFX albums and mistakenly credited to Nobuo Uematsu. It is a song developed by a Korean ballad/rock band named Sky and the title of the song is Forever. English Track Names Concern

Both on iTunes and in-game, the track name is simply "Zanarkand". While this is something I could go ahead and fix, I'm also curious about how to render the spoken-dialogue tracks at the start and finish of the OSt. Since the Japanese track names have (or are at least listed here as having) those quotation-equiv. right-angle things, I propose that the English track names be given in quotation marks. I also propose that they be rendered as outright sentences, with punctuation and only the first word capitalized. As credence to this motion (?), I bring up the titles for some of FFX-2's in-game music and FMVs, such as "Let me blow you a kiss.", "Joost leave it tae us!", and "See you next time, kiddies!" (forgive me if I got the ending punctuations wrong); since Square Enix has used this format themselves, I feel it can be applied here without much incident. T.J. I don't see any problem with adding the quote marks and punctuation, but I'm unsure on the capitalization- I'd just go with however SE/iTunes has it, as those are the official English track names, which don't always line up perfectly with the Japanese ones. Uematsu's contribution

From what I gather the two reviews which are used as citations for this one paragraph state entirely different opinions from those shown in the article:

• Some reviewers felt that of the three composers, Uematsu's pieces were the weakest, citing them as "sub-par" and having a tendency to be "buried" under the compositions of the others.

However source 5 and 15 state that songs in the game were some of Uematsu's best. (Source 15 naming Otherworld and Source 5 naming To Zanakand)

They don't flatly contradict the statement, but the summary in the article is misleading. Both references talk about Uematsu's stuff being buried a bit, as it's "more of the same" Uematsu music compared to the more inventive stuff by the other two, as well as Uematsu having the largest number of "bland" or "throwaway" pieces out of the three. You're right though, in that they also note that the best of Uematsu's pieces are some of the best on the soundtrack as a whole, and neglecting to state this paints an incomplete picture of how his work was received.
