Is Anything Herein Sourced?

Although I'm guessing the flood of contributions made today (18 Sep 2007) may be direct from the game's original author, is there anything else to support these additional details? If not, I suspect that, while intriguing, this might all fly in the face of no original research, etc. ... not to mention possible conflict of interest. D. Brodale 02:23, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I am wondering how articles will otherwise be provided with facts in cases where the facts are unpublished and only known by the original person or persons themselves? Does Wikipedia prefer no information on a subject ... because a publication cannot be cited? That seems extraordinarily self-defeating. But if that is indeed the case, then very well, delete all of my edits, for the facts I provided have not been made known in a prior publication of any sort (nor are they ever likely to be). Or, alternatively, if the information can be accepted in some fashion, then I would be grateful if someone would please assist me in making it properly conform.

Personally, I'm grateful for the information (I actually have a copy of Mission: Thunderbolt for MacOS), but this is more a matter of fit with the scope of Wikipedia and it's typical for others to point to Wikipedia Guidelines (see interaction->help in the sidebar). In this case, a good place to start might be no original research. The danger is of unchecked, unverifiable material and potential for non-NPOV statements as a secondary effect. I'm no Wikipedia guideline expert, though, so I'd suggest looking into permissibility before someone does as you intimate and excise content haphazardly. By all means, the situation that arises from your unique position isn't new. I can think of at least one other similar article (Rogue) wherein a primary source has a heavy hand in editing the associated Wikipedia article. Not that it should be taken as precedent one way or the other, as it seems to be overlooked there. Anyway, I just wanted to flag a potential stumbling block here. (And yes, depending on one's take of what Wikipedia is or should be, it isn't hard to view it as self-defeating in many regards.) D. Brodale 09:06, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

What is the proper name for this game?

Is it Mission: Thunderbolt or Mission Thunderbolt? I see both used within the article. D. Brodale 08:15, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Source? Given that the game's author went through the WP article as is and it still jumps between three different names for the title, I'd like a reliable source here before I go fishing for my purchased copy of the game in storage. D. Brodale 18:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Some of the confusion is perhaps the difference in referring to the name of the game, versus referring to a mission inside the game(s). Also, it appears that I was a bit sloppy in my contribution [Historical Background] with regard to proper punctuation and capitalization. When referring to the first *mission* of the series, I and others often used "Mission Thunderbolt", whereas the name of the *game* was "Doomsday 2000" on the DEC VAX, "Mission: THUNDERBOLT" as published by Casady & Greene, and "JauntTrooper - Mission: THUNDERBOLT" when I later self-published. Hrmmmm ... if you check that URL, which I just did a second time after I already submitted the above paragraph, there is also a screenshot of the game. The title bar of the game's window shows "Mission Thunderbolt" as the name of the game, rather than "Mission: THUNDERBOLT". Looks like there was an inconsistency between the in-game name and the published product name which we never noticed at the time. MegaCorp 17:23, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
