This is a list of free (mostly open source) clones of the game

Late mention of flags edit

In the "overview" part flags are not mentioned before chording and then only indirectly. That's weird and possibly confusing. Judith Sunrise (talk) 00:03, 13 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Team-B-Vital Improvement Drive edit

Hello all!

This article has been chosen as this fortnight's effort for WP:Discord's #team-b-vital channel, a collaborative effort to bring Vital articles up to a B class if possible, similar to WP:Articles for Improvement. This effort will run for up to a fortnight, ending early if the article is felt to be at B-class or impossible to further improve. Articles are chosen by a quick vote among interested chatters, with the goal of working together on interesting Vital articles that need improving.

Thank you! Remagoxer (talk) 17:30, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Etymology edit

In the article, can you explain where the term 'Minesweeper' comes from and why it is related to the game's concept? Coin945 (talk) 00:18, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Minesweeper (video game)Minesweeper (video games) – Either (video games) or (video gaming). Per Talk:Minesweeper (video game)/GA1, this isn't an article on Microsoft Minesweeper, but rather the concept of Minesweeper and it's many versions. • Oppose - current title feels appropriate for the broad genre of game. OP's suggested changes are somewhat pedantic, for little benefit. -- Netoholic @ 15:21, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:SINGULAR. Variations can be covered without using a plural in the title. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:00, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Suggestion: Although I don't like the proposed name, the current title is ambiguous with Microsoft Minesweeper, and incomplete disambiguation (a.k.a. partial disambiguation) is only justifiable in extremely rare cases, and this doesn't look like one of those cases, so I suggest moving this to Minesweeper video game genre or Minesweeper game genre. I'm not particularly fond of Minesweeper (video game genre), since not all of them are called "Minesweeper" and natural disambiguation is preferred. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:27, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
WP:NATURAL says: Do not, however, use obscure or made-up names. I went through a decent amount of sources to write for this article, and never saw it referred to as either ways. Do you have any sources where it is? — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 16:31, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
To me the suggestions seem like straightforward descriptive titles, not really something creative and new, and I don't think it's really necessary to justify such titles with exact matches in sources. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:15, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
That is pretty good too, I would support that as well, though I think I still like "video game genre" more. We may need some sort of poll format? None of these options are clearly superior to all the others. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:17, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I actually prefer Minesweeper game, per WP:SIMPLE. No need to DAB as it's a naturaldab. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:51, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
That name is ambiguous with Microsoft Minesweeper. That may not be a big problem, since Microsoft Minesweeper fits into the genre, but I think it would be better to put "genre" in the title somewhere. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:03, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose both suggestions. Neither are improvements. Sergecross73 msg me 11:24, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Minesweeper game as WP:CONCISE and WP:NATURAL disambiguation that, in my view, clearly indicates the scope of the article. Opposed to the "(video games)" disambiguator per WP:SINGULAR, neutral on "(video game genre)". ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:30, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Merge with Microsoft Minesweeper (i.e., oppose). I don't see the case for treating these as separate topics—to cover one, we need to cover the other. czar 16:11, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
This isn't a merge discussion. You should start one if you want it merged — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 17:22, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's poor form to split an ongoing discussion. Also Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy—it's fine to give an opinion without having to start a formal discussion about it. czar 01:38, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose all suggestions including (video game genre). (video game) with a hatnote pointing to Microsoft Minesweeper is perfectly sufficient. No one is confused about what page they're at within 10 seconds of arriving. Axem Titanium (talk) 21:18, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sadie Kaye Deadname edit

The person formerly known as Richard Kaye has since transitioned and is now called Sadie Kaye, see here. Does that webpage counts as a reliable source or else what sources should I look for, since she's not published anything since the change of name? 86.26.160.231 (talk) 23:12, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Seeing as Kaye is a private individual who is not particularly known under either name, this should be fine, assuming we are certain this is the same person. Having updated the name is appropriate and I just went through it :) ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:44, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
