@Metropolitan90 I actually nominated this article for deletion twice rather than merge as I think a merge is pointless, so the “nobody is requesting anything other than a merge” you wrote is not quite right. So if I was being picky I guess I could ask for the second discussion to continue.
@Chidgk1, sorry, I thought you really did want a merge because your nomination began, "My 2022 proposal to delete was closed as “merge” but nobody did the merge". --Metropolitan90(talk)04:59, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Metropolitan90 Ah OK I should have been clearer and bolded ‘delete’. I usually request merges manually but have to admit I did use Twinkle XFD to request a merge for a completely different subject namely Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/EcoCute (which needs more participants by the way) because I could not get merge automation to work properly. If you know any good merge automation tool please let me know.
@Reywas92 As you probably know FAO will publish new data next year and presumably OWID will immediately do the percents. So it hardly seems worth Wikipedians fiddling around with old data - perhaps you now agree with me that deleting this article would be better? I can just put a note below the OWID percents map in List of countries by forest area telling the reader how to click through to the list of percents on the OWID website if they need percents as a list rather than a map. @Metropolitan90 As it seems none of the people who voted to merge in 2022 are actually going to do it please could you re-open my 2024 deletion request as I think I have waited long enough. Or I could easily create another deletion discussion if you prefer. Chidgk1 (talk) 12:42, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would recommend going ahead and starting a new deletion discussion. I still think merging would be a sensible idea; if you really want deletion, I suggest focusing the nomination on why the page should be deleted and ruling out a merge if you don't want a merge. --Metropolitan90(talk)22:44, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
