List of Degrassi: The Next Generation episodes

This LOE is seriously messed up. It needs major reformatting. Also, the discussion at WP:EPISODE seem to be unknown to the people who have been working on the page lately.

Episode List format

Following a discussion with Jay32183 about List of My Family episodes, I am deeply unhappy with the episode list template that this Wikiproject is trying to impose on all episode list articles. I feel that with episode list template is most unnecessary for many programmes, especially for the episode lists I have created (namely My Family, The Good Life, To the Manor Born, Are You Being Served?, One Foot in the Grave and Midsomer Murders). I see no need for a screenshot for every episode (unless they have individual episode articles of course); the screenshot is so small usually that its hard to see it. Also, with many of my sitcoms, a screenshot would be hard to get hold of. Secondly, I see no need to have the writer and director of each episode. In most sitcoms it is the same writer/s for every episode, so such a box isn't needed. And if it is, it can be added to the template I use (like I did for Midsomer Murders). I also feel that the director of each episode isn't really necessary either, and the production code certainly isn't. I very doubt that when people look on an episode list they really care what the production code is.

I feel that the template I use should be allowed in addition to the existing episode list template. I feel that they are both good for differant programmes. While I understand the need for conformity, I don't think we need to take that to far. The key thing is that the episode lists are tidy, well presented and have all the important information. The ones I have made all have this, and its a bit galling to see my hard work changed dramatically like Jay32183 did. --Berks105 11:08, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

The image parameter is optional. Using the template does not require using screenshots. The point of the template is to set a standard across Wikipedia. Many of the parameters in the template are optional. Saying you won't use the template because an optional item that you don't want is there is really strange. The way the above listed pages are currently formatted causes the bulk of the text, the episode summaries, to have smaller text that appears on a colored background. Although some users may find that more visually appealing, it does cause readability issues and de-emphasizes the flowing prose relative to the list information. I think Ned did a lot of the work in designing the template, maybe he can explain how a lot of the desicions came about. And I believe what Matthew said was: The page is ugly, episode lists should use the standard template, and most of your comment was in the first-person. Jay32183 18:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

People don't have to use the template itself, but the idea is to promote that or a similar style of list. The template is just a tool. However, there are many options you might not be aware of. Almost every parameter if the template is optional, so if you don't want a screen shot or a column for director, don't list it and it won't show up. You can make it as simple or as complex as you want (for most situations, at least). -- Ned Scott 04:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

That and the template also makes it easier to change the appearance without having to retype a lot of stuff. By using the same parameters, you can make a clone template and a simple find/replace command and thus easily migrate the same data to a new look. -- Ned Scott 04:17, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

New template of interest

I created {{Information TV series screenshot}} recently that I thought may be of interest to this project. It is based on {{Information}} but is tailored specifically to screenshots from a TV series. An example of usage could be Image:STLastOutpost.jpg. Cburnett 02:41, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Move

It's not being disbanded at all.. It's becoming a task force. The idea is to drive activity for both WP:LOE and WP:TV, which have both have been rather inactive lately. Everything is pretty much the same as it was, but the appearance is more unified with WP:TV, and makes it less confusing. -- Ned Scott 20:33, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

This was an idea from quite some while ago. The idea is that because many of the same people work on the 3 main WP:TV projects and because it's easier to have a central location for all "TV related editing" it might be a good idea to merge the: lists of eps and the individual ep projects back into the main WP:TV project. List of Kim Possible episodes

Would one of you please format this table correctly? I suck at tables and the people on that page haven't responded to my request. The table is currently filled with unneeded spacing and colors. List of episodes of The Simpsons, which is an FL, was recently put up for FA review by an editor, but the nomination wasn't completed and was removed. However, I do not think this is the last we will hear of the matter, so I have opened a discussion to see how the page can be improved here. Since this is an episode lists task force, I figured I might as well mention this here and see if anyone had any ideas on how to save the page from losing its FL status. -- Scorpion 01:31, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Starhunter Episode list

I re-structured the episode guide/list on the Starhunter page to something similar of the featured episode lists. I haven't added the episode descriptions, because I don't really know much about the series itself and only just started watching it. Electricbolt 20:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Merge with Episode taskforce?

There has been much discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television/Episodes about the assessment of episode articles and the need for those articles which fail notability guidelines to be merged on to an episode or season list, which is also consistent with WP:EPISODE. Individual episode articles should be broken out from season/list pages episode only when they have enough supporting resources to assert notability. Because this means the taskforces will overlap, and be working towards similar goals, it has been suggested that WikiProject Television/Episodes and WikiProject Television/Episode lists be merged.
