Lord Baden-Powell

Robert Baden-Powell, 3rd Baron Baden-Powell has died so Michael Baden-Powell is presumably the 4th Baron Baden-Powell. I lot of work has to be done to update a large number of pages. I have started this, but it needs more hands. --Bduke (talk) 21:01, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

It also needs a source that he is actually the 4th Baron Baden-Powell and I can not find one. He lives in Australia in Victoria where I am but I can not find any news about him become a Lord, --Bduke (talk) 21:06, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Michael's "ascension" to the title will be announced in the Gazette once Letters Patent have been issued - but it takes effect immediately upon the death. Like the Queen was also in limbo between her father's death and her Coronation.RobinClay (talk) 22:15, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
We first need a source for the death of Robert Baden-Powell, 3rd Baron Baden-Powell and I can not find one. --Egel Reaction? 22:23, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Hmmm... The only source Google can find is Wikipedia. I would have expected something from the UK Scout Association on Facebook, but this is the first I've heard of it. Alansplodge (talk) 22:11, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
I think perhaps we should delete until a source is found. Agreed? Alansplodge (talk) 14:01, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I thought about a "Citation needed" template, but I found Template:Citation needed#When not to use this template which says: "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced should be removed immediately. Do not tag it; immediately remove it. See also Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Remove contentious material that is unsourced or poorly sourced. As far as I can tell, the reference provided by User:RobinClay (which is here does not actually mention the death of Robert Crause Baden-Powell. I have therefore removed references to his death from the article until such time as we can find a reliable source. I trust we all concur. Alansplodge (talk) 17:25, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I've just checked - it's there now.RobinClay (talk) 22:15, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Scouting portal

Portal:Scouting had not been updated for a long time, so I have updated and expanded it. A detailed summary of updates that were performed exists at Portal talk:Scouting § Portal updates. Feel free to post comments about the portal there, if desired. North America1000 05:02, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

What are some of the Scouting pilgrimage sites around the world?

Re-assessment of some updated articles

Hi all, I've been away from Wiki for a while but a current lack of anything to do has brought me back to these parts and I have updated some rather out of date articles and significantly expanded some, mostly surrounding Scouts in the UK. If others are able to take a look and edit ratings as required, I would appreciate.

  • Scout Network (Was Start class, reckon it's around a B) Had not been updated in a long time so this was a deep dive to add new sections re-write to a more encyclopedic style and add where I could.
  • Explorer Scouts (The Scout Association) (Was Start class, reckon it's around a B) As above, a lot of the sections and bits covered also applied to the next section down so worked on them.
  • Young Leaders (The Scout Association) (Start class) Added sections where possible including an infobox.
  • Scouting in South East England (Start class) The details and coverage of the different counties was very patchy so added and expanded to cover more detail and raise it from the start class it was.
  • Scout Adventures (The Scout Association) (Stub class, now a C but might be higher) Again a significant update as the centres included was about 5 years old and missing. Has been expanded to create a more significant history section to follow the development of the section rather than just being an advert.
  • Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre (Start class) Expanded while trying to keep a simple descriptive encyclopedic tone without it becoming an advert but must be more than the previously rated start class.

Thanks in advance! --Rafmarham (talk) 12:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

@Rafmarham: make the changes if you see something that needs updatimg. --evrik (talk) 17:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
@Evrik: Oh changes made, don't worry about that! It was the classes I was thinking about as some I couldn't place where they could go. For some of the articles, especially with the section articles (Scout Network, Explorers, Young Leader) I really wasn't sure what more could be added which put it up in the higher ranks - B, maybe even GA? Hence I wanted to get some outside opinion from someone who hasn't spent loads of time re-doing it! :) Rafmarham (talk) 22:41, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
I think that Evrik mean to feel free to re-rate them. But you can't just assign GA; that takes a specific wikipedia process. North8000 (talk) 00:46, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Lead coordinator

By unanimous consensus, Evrik was appointed the Lead Coordinator for WikiProject Scouting. His term of appointment is through October 2020. Without objection, unanimous consent is requested to continue his appointment on an open-ended basis.  JGHowes  talk 00:22, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I will accept. --evrik (talk) 01:05, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
  • I strongly support that Evrik continues in this role. --Bduke (talk) 01:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Baden-Powell grave

There is a battle going on with the Baden-Powell grave article, where one editor is persisting with his view when several other editors are disagreeing with him. Could we please have more eyes looking at this article. Thanks. --Bduke (talk) 02:51, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I had a look at the Edit history and the Talk page, and am none the wiser as to what the dispute is about. Editors there seem to have no idea how to use Edit summaries, and the Talk page is a confusing mess. Can you clarify at all please? HiLo48 (talk) 02:59, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
It is about a letter by B-P which one editor wants removing. Look at the long tedious "External link reinstatement" section in Talk:Baden-Powell grave. That one editor is persisting in getting his own way although Evrik and I are disagreeing. We think the letter should be mentioned. It seems a small minor matter but one editor is making a big deal of it and removing the mention. --Bduke (talk) 03:18, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
  • It's started about one line in the see also section, but has now expanded into the organization of the page. If you get involved, I suggest maintaining the status quo. --evrik (talk) 03:30, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but even with that post you completely failed to provide an Edit summary, just as with several earlier edits to the article by you.. They really do help other editors understand what's going on. HiLo48 (talk) 03:48, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Scoutlink (The Scout Association)

The article Scoutlink (The Scout Association) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Is not notable, does not cite any references and being a defunct organisation lacks information on the internet to support the topic.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rafmarham (talk) 10:55, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

I unprodded it and then reversed myself. I think that there are 2 Scoutlinks. The one that is the subject of the article probably needs to get deleted. North8000 (talk) 20:47, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

Scouts with Special Needs and Disabilities

Scouts with Special Needs and Disabilities would be a good BSA related article. --evrik (talk) 18:05, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
