Wikipedia talk:Notice board for India-related topics/Newsalert

Aims edit

The basic aims of this venture are:

  1. Provide a weekly alert and information guide, bringing the WP:INWNB to individual users direct.
  2. Enlist the large number of India-content editors into participating in the WP:INCOTW and India-related WikiProjects.
  3. Network with Indian language Wikipedias.
  4. Re-energize and expand the base of editors (of all nationalities) interested in editing India-related content.

Ideas edit

Perhaps we could have

  • a collapsible to-do list for India-related topics.
  • a small notice at the top as to what the Collaboration of the Week is
  • a small list down the bottom referring to any FACs, FPCs, FLCs, RFAs etc etc

Just a few ideas. Nobleeagle (Talk) 23:27, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually I want to include all INCOTW candidates, so people can select their choice project. Rama's arrow 23:31, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions edit

Great idea!

  • Make the flag smaller, 100px
  • "Join Team India!" and "Indian on Wikipedia" must link to WP:IND. We need to gather members there. That is the root project.
  • Provide a link to Indian collaboration of the week.
  • News and Notes can mention,
    • Featured content - new featured content. Items on FAC, FAR and Peer review.
    • Items on deletion

- Ganeshk (talk) 13:57, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rather than linking FAC, Deletion sorting pages, I was thinking we could have a sub-page to the news alert, that will list the items with some additional explanation. This is how Signpost does. That would be nice. - Ganeshk (talk) 06:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Circulation edit

What do we need to develop an automatic circulation method like Wikipedia Signpost? Rama's arrow 01:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

If there is no easier mechanism, then we could use AWB. First we need to make a list of editors who are interested in receiving the newsletter. Then using the "What links here" feature on AWB, we can easily submit it to all the users.-- thunderboltz(Deepu) 06:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
We should start a spam list signup page similar to this. - Ganeshk (talk) 06:22, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
We already have a spamlist in the form of the members listed at INWNB. Its useful to go ahead and use that list. How do we commission the bot to spam according to that list? Rama's arrow 14:43, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
With any talk page spam, there needs be a mechanism to unsubscribe from it (if one wishes so). Like you say, we could automatically sign up all active members to the alert. This sub-page will let them remove themselves if they want. The footer of the alert should read in small script, You are receiving this alert since you are listed as interested in India-related topics. If you wish to unsubscribe from this alert, you can do so at this page. They would still remain member of the noticeboard, but will not get alerts on their talk page. They could use the alernative. - Ganeshk (talk) 16:45, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Government of India edit

Portal:Government of India has been created. Please suggest your views to make it improve. Please take participation in article and list selection. Actually it will work from October 1 in full phase, so anniversary also has dated October 1. Shyam (T/C) 20:43, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Updates and circulation edit

Wikipedia:Notice board for India-related topics/Newsalert I need help in starting the circulation of this newsletter. Updates is easier but the project needs more regular contributors, ideas and suggestions. Basic formatting and layout have been done, but some issues need sorting. Rama's arrow 19:13, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

(cross post from WT:INB) I have started a Outreach department, kind of a Editor's desk for doing this activity. I have merged your newslert under the department so it is organized better. Could you please check out September 2006 Newsletter and add to that. I feel the news alert must give new information everytime, not link to existing project pages that everyone is aware of. The new template has sections to add news and new proposals. Everyone please join in and comment. - Ganeshk (talk) 20:01, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
What Volume and Issue no. stand for in the newsletter? Do they have different significance? Making it (i.e. The India WikiProject Newsletter with flag) at the centre might be more attractive. Shyam (T/C) 16:06, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Volume and Issue numbers are like Major and minor revision numbers. Volume will help us reset the Issue number back to 1 at some point in the future. Let us after 100 issues, we can increment Volume by 1. :) The left alignment looks better to me. ;) - Ganeshk (talk) 16:19, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Now, it is more clear to me. But rather than 100 issues it would be better if we change the volume number by year. Let's say, from January 2007, we start volume no. 2. Thanks for the reply. Shyam (T/C) 19:40, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
