Applying to the ILAE Wikipedia Project

Hi!

I am a Mexican, 56-year-old psychologist, translator and Wikipedian, interested in epilepsy due to the following reasons:

a) I was a patient with epilepsy: first, I had several episodes during childhood (from 4 to 12 years old); later, I had another, isolated episode, in 2015, when I was 51 years old; the episodes during childhood were apparently provoked by the use of obstetrical forceps, and the isolated episode in 2015 was apparently generated by a loss (the unexpected death of a friend).

b) I was a student during two years at the School of Medicine (UNAM, a public school in Mexico City), and my interest in those years was mainly genetics.

c) I changed to the School of Psychology (also UNAM) because my father died. I finished my studies, which included several courses about neurosciences: then, my interest was mainly sleep medicine, and attended EEG labs to study epilepsy, sleep (insomnia) and some other academic issues.

d) I studied literary English-Spanish translation immediately after the end of my regular courses in psychology.

e) Several years later, I couldn't finish my PhD studies in neurosciences (which were about sleep neurosciences). I am still interested in doing them as soon as possible.

f) Meanwhile, since 2007, I have been working as a technical and scientific English-Spanish-English translator both within Wikipedia and for different legal offices and researchers.

Therefore, I may contribute as a Level 3 Editor, as a Wikipedian and as a translator.

Diptanshu Das invited me on my talk page to join this project. I'm not so active on Wikipedia as I used to be some years ago. I wrote the featured article Ketogenic diet and the featured list List of people with epilepsy (the latter is a wee bit neglected). I also wrote a fair bit at Tuberous sclerosis. My fist edits to Wikipedia were epilepsy-related and I retain that interest. I have peer-reviewed articles that were heading towards nomination at Feature Article Candidates, helping other subject-expert editors to write prose that a lay reader can understand. Hello everyone! I am early-career neurologist, researcher from Moscow with special interest in epileptology, currently providing PhD study on autonomic dysfunction in patients with epilepsy. My colleagues and I have recently started ILAE YES Russian Chapter, and we would be happy to contribute to the ILAE Wikipedia Project. I am not an experienced Wikipedian yet, but interested in editing/translation epilepsy-related Wikipedia entries and I passed the Wikipedia orientation course. Hi, I a clinical epilepsy specialist at Univ of California Davis, in US. I connected with Dr Nandan Yardi regarding this project after it was announced on American Epilepsy Society forum.
