Get Involved
Anybody can join the project. Although you can edit the articles without registering, we insist that you register for a Wikipedia account (in case you do not have one already). We prefer the username to be reflective of your real life identity. This is important if you want to receive credits for your work.
Now, visit the project page dashboard and enrol for the program. This will make your contributions trackable. It includes the basic Wikipedia orientation course and more.
Based on your level of expertise there would be a number of levels. Check the details below and feel free to apply. You can still continue to edit the articles without registering but then we would not be able to track your contributions or provide credits. We strongly insist that you apply to join.
Regular Editor on Wikipedia
As regular Wikipedians you can continue to edit the pages tagged under WP:Epilepsy without registering to be a part of the ILAE Wikipedia project. But then we would not be able to offer the additional benefits of joining the project. As a registered member of the project you would be eligible to:
- Ability to display a badge or userbox denoting the level of involvement in the project.
- Recognition as top contributors in various drives that the project will periodically announce.
- A scope to get author credits with the Wikipedia article being co-published in academic journals
- A recognition certificate from ILAE acknowledging the good work you have done.
- ILAE will offer specific perks to top contributors from time to time. It could be registration discounts, specific privileges, or something else.

If you choose to join the project, you will have to follow the rules of the project (as specified on the project pages) and work in harmony with other participants. You can raise issues on the discussion page of the project or on the mailing list.
You can choose to edit anonymously using a pseudonymous account or can choose to reveal your real identity. We prefer the latter. Unless you choose to openly reveal your real-life identity through your username and/or on your userpage, we cannot provide the benefits to your real-life identity (we would still acknowledge the contributions by your pseudonymous username). Level 1 Editor
- Any Wikipedian who is interested in contributing within the scope of the project. As Wikipedians you may or may not reveal your real identity or credentials and can continue to contribute from your registered username.
- You need not necessarily be from a medical background. You can be doctor, paramedic or nurse but we will not be able to know it unless you are ready to publicly reveal your identity (which automatically restricts you to this category). You can also be caregiver to a patient with epilepsy. You could be from some patient support group.
- You could be also be technical experts dealing with various technical requirements of the project.
- Scope of work will extend to:
- Creation of new articles, preferably using the draft-space.
- Systematically improving epilepsy-related articles in collaboration with other participants.
- Working on the technical aspects of the project like improving categories, templates, working on newsletter and so on.
Level 2 Editor
- Medical practitioners, general physicians, researchers, or students training in medical subjects or from some associate field.
- Scope of work will include that of Level 1 Editors and will additionally include:
- Ensure structure and contents of the articles in accordance to the rules of medical editing on Wikipedia.
- Ensure that the information contained in the articles is scientifically accurate.
Level 3 Editor
- People having specialist training, experience or expertise in the field of neurology, neurosciences, epilepsy, or allied subjects.
- Scope of work will include that of Level 2 Editors but would focus on ensuring scientific accuracy of the articles.
Reviewers
- Need to be academically proficient, having some experience of reviewing articles.
- New but interested members can take the Publons reviewers course and enroll thereafter.
- Can additionally be editors of the project or invited academicians but would need to register separately as reviewers.
- They analyse the existing articles and provide their inputs on how to develop the given article with respect to academic standards.
ILAE Endorsed Experts
- Credible ILAE chapter or taskforce members, or identified or invited by ILAE for the purpose.
- They analyse the existing articles and provide their inputs on how to develop the given article with respect to academic standards.
ILAE Wikipedia Crusaders
- This category is for individuals who are willing to act as local champions and expand it to their network of contributors.
- Senior academicians can set up academic courses centred around Wikipedia editing. The courses can allow the students to select the Wikipedia page(s) to improve within a certain timeframe in lieu of academic credits.
- Student Crusaders can organise intra- or inter- university editathons on epilepsy related subjects.
- Personnel associated with various universities can help by setting up independent Wikipedia editing courses that offer academic courses that offer some sort of academic credits to students for improving Wikipedia pages on epilepsy related subjects.
- This is actually an open list. The purpose is to involve young contributors to contribute quality contents on epilepsy related subjects. In case they lack the knowledge or expertise of Wikipedia editing, we have volunteer mentors who would gladly help you through.
Wikipedia Mentors
- Experienced Wikipedians who can shepherd academicians who are keen on contributing to the project but are unaware of the norms of Wikipedia and the basics of medical editing on Wikipedia. As Wikipedians you may or may not reveal your real identity or credentials and can continue to contribute from your registered username, however, we would be happy if you have your real-life identity revealed.
- Knowledge of use of WikiEdu and WFMLabs courses and projects is an additional benefit.
Translators
- This will include the members of the translation taskforce of WikiProject Medicine, or otherwise, who are interested in translating epilepsy related articles to various languages.
- The tasks of this group will include:
- Working in collaboration with other members to create template articles for translation into various languages.
- Translate epilepsy related articles into various languages.
