Veronesi

Francesco Veronesi is a very good photographer. He is particularly focused on bird photography. His Flickr profile counts well over 13,000 photos, and he is active as ever. Commons holds 4829 of his photos (March 2021), of which 2558 photos are used on-Wiki, not less than 18,383 times. Nice photos, a real success story. I have a question, though. Many of his photographs carry a very faint watermark in the middle of the image, and some a more clear watermark down left. Any thoughts? Vysotsky (talk) 23:35, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Program for finding needed photos

A few hours ago, walking in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, I was using the WikiShootMe to find targets and Commons App to shoot and upload the pictures. It would be pleasant if one of those could include the features and capabilities of the other. Another nice feature would add coords from the "Image requested" categories. Gary Snyder — pic of the young Snyder would make sense in the article

Gary Snyder was born in 1930. His recognition began when it became public knowledge that, in the novel The Dharma Bums (1958), Jack Kerouac had based the protagonist (Japhy Ryder) on his new friend Gary. By the early 1960s, through the publication of his poetry, Snyder was gaining some visibility.

From the early '60s to the mid '70s, Snyder's poetry & essays had been collected in several books, his poetry & articles had been published in numerous popular & specialized magazines, and interviews with him were showing up frequently here & there. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1974 for one of his poetry books.

I'd think his greatest prominence probably occurred between about 1965 and 1985. Though Snyder felt he'd been misguidedly identified with the "Beat Generation" writers; still, some commentators have seemed to see him mainly as a figure in movements of the '50s & '60s. I think that's a limiting view, but Snyder had certainly made his mark by the time he was 40.Joel Russ (talk) 02:33, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
