Burnley Football Club's first venture into international football was against Scottish club Cowlairs in 1885, and in their first overseas tour in 1914 they played sides from the German Empire and Austria-Hungary. They qualified for the 1960–61 European Cupin 1959–60, eliminating Stade de Reims in the first round but lost to Hamburger SV in the quarter-final. Burnley's next European campaign was in the 1966–67 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, where they were beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-final. In 2018, Burnley qualified for the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League, reaching the play-off round. They also competed in minor international football tournaments in the 1970s and early 1980s. Burnley participated in two editions of the domestic Texaco Cup. They reached the 1974 final but lost against Newcastle United after extra time. Burnley later competed in the Anglo-Scottish Cup winning final in 1978–79, after they defeated Oldham Athletic 4–2 on aggregate. (This article is part of a featured topic: Burnley F.C. .)
